To those who doubt Oprah Winfrey’s potential impact as a campaigner for Barack Obama, Washington Post columnist Eugene Robinson points out what the television guru did for Leo Tolstoy’s century-old “Anna Karenina.†Its addition to Oprah’s Book Club instantly bumped the book, and others like it, to best-seller status.
Early polls by the Pew Research Center predict that Winfrey’s support of Obama won’t make that much of a splash. Still, she has millions of faithful viewers, mostly women, who have spent millions of dollars to read what she recommends.

Don’t forget though that Hillary was just endorsed by Barbara Streisand. She might not be in the limelight often, but when Streisand speaks, people listen. America listens.
There is no doubt that Oprah has lots of pull. Especially with women who watch her show faithfully. And in many markets where early primary elections are held, her show actually enjoys higher ratings than the top prime time shows! Whether or not she is able to pry women away from Hillary is not yet known but I would not bet against her.
Who listens to Barbara Streisand?
I have said many times that if Oprah hung a fancy bag of dog poop in her front room and called it by some fancy name, the women who watch her show would all be out buying their fancy bag of dog poop for their house.
Like it or not, Oprah has alot of power and it is with the women in this country, black and white. So I would not count Oprah out at this point in the game. And I certainly would not dismiss her as if she was nothing to worry about.
It is sad when the electorate can be influenced by a couple of Hollywood sluts. No wonder that that Rush refers to all of the liberal garbage as Barbara Streisand. When Barbara speaks the intelligent citizens just laugh.
Oprah isn’t a slut, what a nasty thing to say. She’s awesome. Both Obama and Hillary would make fabulous presidents.
What exactly do Oprah and Babs have in common with the average American.
They are paid millions of dollars to do little or nothing.
They’ve never met a conservative they didn’t hate.
They make fun of and dismiss those of us in “fly-over country.”
They’ve never met a cause (that requires spending our money not theirs- their money is safely invested in off shore accounts, no doubt) they didn’t like.
They have NO experience in government or in the private sector at all.
It’s been so long since they had to work for a living they have long forgotten what it was really like and depend on their assistants to explain “real” life to them.
Women around the world fought hard to win suffrage and what do we do with it. Hand over our decisions to individuals who care less about us then they do the latest purse collection from Prada. Makes you wonder.
Oprah should stick to what she does best, TV.
She’s appears to be a good person and it’s her right to support the candidate of her choice.
I would bet though, that her audience is of mixed political ideology and for her to use her stardom to persuade the vote for a certain person is ethically unsound.
It is unsound because of her stardom, she is on five days a week and people will tie her show into the Obama campaign as one and the same.
It’s just as bad if Fox News supports a certain candidate and doesn’t support any others. It tarnishes the nature of the news and gives the viewer a biased view of what situations really are.
Celebrity status in no way indicates special wisdom.
sean, you’re so full of it, both women have been actively involved in charity for many years. Do you have proof that they have money in off shore accounts? Nope, just talking out your arse.
BOTH are great examples of what women can do. And they are in the private sector…they’re the epitome of capitalism.

and Chuck Norris makes ads for Mike Huckabee so what. If Oprah whats to help Obama I really dont care. I would Imagine most of the candidates have celeb endorsements, it doesn’t really effect I how will vote
“”"It’s just as bad if Fox News supports a certain candidate and doesn’t support any others. It tarnishes the nature of the news and gives the viewer a biased view of what situations really are.”"”
Fox News channel obviously supports the Republicans and their candidates. Anybody that watches it for more than 5 minutes knows that.
“”"Celebrity status in no way indicates special wisdom.”"”
It is because Oprah has a close personal relationship with both Obama and his wife Michelle. She has known both since his days as a local Illinois state Senator.
