The Wichita City Council showed good sense Tuesday in opting not to spend $225,000 to buy a $60,000 piece of property, at least not yet. South Wichita needs a new fire station — no question. And maybe the site at Denker and Hydraulic, owned by the Indian Southern Baptist Church, will best serve public safety. But leaders are right to take their time and make sure this deal is as good as it gets. Still, the last thing City Hall needs is a big legal fight over Indian-owned land.

Why don’t they just use Eminent Domain and take the land at fair market value? After all it is for a public use. They are not taking it to build a Wal*Mart or something.
Indian land? Hey, build a casino there and let the firemen run it.
I agree with the thought that 7 blocks would not make that much difference in response time. Surely a few well placed emergency traffic signals would solve those issues quickly
Isnt their some free land available for the City to use? sounds pretty obvious

7 blocks can be the differnce between life and death. If your house is on fire or your loved one is hurt badly or having a heart attack, you do not want those 7 blocks between you and help.

Kev -Unless ‘your’ house is 7 blocks the other way!
