Brewer on the front lines

BrewercarlCongratulations to Mayor Carl Brewer for being among 23 leaders newly elected to the board of directors of the National League of Cities during the group’s recent New Orleans convention. That position, which follows former Mayor Bob Knight’s presidency of the group in 1999, puts Brewer on the forefront of the issues facing the league’s 19,000 member communities. And many of those issues are tough: In a recent survey by the group, nearly half of Midwestern cities reported being less able to meet their budgetary needs this year than last.

Thank goodness Carl is a bridge builder. Wichita has a lot of tough issues still to address. A mayor with a good sense of inclusivity has resulted in bringing a lot of people to the table and by creating stakeholders it seems like greater progress is being made. Kudos. I appreciate the mayor’s dedication.

Congrads to Brewer. Overall a good man doing a good job but I still think he was chicken on the casino vote. He should have came out forcefully in FAVOUR of it. The loss will be costly for the city of Wichita in the future.

Congratulations on wasting local taxpayer money on a four day drunk at our expense.

Under the Open Meetings Act, ask your city council how much was spent to send the Mayor and councilmen to the annual event?

Airfare, lodging, food per diem expense (drinks/booze), and all transportation costs.

For what? Nothing. Zilch. Nada. Not one penny return on OUR investment. End this free pleasure trip to give out beads to women who expose their breasts and booze on the streets.

    Any photo ops?

And we didn’t even get a kiss with the screw.
