Here is the Nancy Pelosi piece I meant to post, earlier:

http://opinionjournal.com/diary/?id=110010881

Again, the Democrats do not want employers, in the United States, to require their employees to speak English!

My point is clear Doug:

Nancy Pelosi, the Democrat Leader in the U.S. House of Representatives, wants to block a law that would protect the Salvation Army from lawsuits brought by illegal alliens that can't speak English.

In other words, you liberals want it BOTH ways: You want the public mad at Republicans for not "fixing" the problem, but you want all the Democrat votes you can get, so you let the illegals who are here take the rest of us to court!

The leadership of the Democrat Party is for open borders and no enforcement of our existing laws.

This is a fact.

I did not ramble.

I made a very firm, valid point:

Mexico won't let Americans buy land in Mexico.

American liberals won't allow American employers to require their employees to learn the English language.

DougProject much?

You arent making any sense.

You want us to stop trading with Mexico, and somehow, that will make the Mexicans in Mexico "rich" and they won't need to move North, anymore?

Who is insane here?

I like the idea of simply enforcing the laws we have, and taking away an illegals reason for being here. No welfare, no medical care, no ability to work. It still won't stop the criminals who are coming here for better illegal opportunities, but if ICE were properly funded, we could weed them out as well.

Let them deport themselves.

Their is still the issue of drug smuggling. They will continue to come over the border with drugs, even if just to go back and get another load. You keep drug prices high, you find kids have less access.

Of course, their is always meth. That stuff is mostly smuggled now also, because the ingrediants needed to make it are tougher to get. I think a world wide ban on all production of effedrine (or whatever the key ingrediant is) would work. But then again, what will they come up with next? Really, the whole meth epidemic was a result of high drug prices.

Enforce what we already have, that makes alot of sence.

Paul, some days your insane ramblings make absolutely no sense, I guess that's why they are insane ramblings. As usual you couldn't address the issue but that's merely because you don't have a grasp on the issue so you must ramble about the Salvation Army or some pointless crap.

BTW, the Salvation Army is in Mexico and they speak Spanish. I guess that really gets your goat.

Here, I'll provide a link that may help you since the concept of using a search engine is foreign to you:http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2006/07/31/MNGIVK8BHP1.DTL

WE all need to encourage our represenative and senators to support the SAVE act, originally introduced by REP.Shuler of NC. In addtion to the house bill there have been two identical bills introduce in the US Senate this past week.

This is a common sense approace to the MAGNETS which draw ILLEGAL Aliens and force LEGAL IMIGRANTS throught the proper existing legal channels.

We must stop the flow of ILLEGALS before we can address the current probems here inside our borders.

WE cant' affford to repeat the same mistakes after the 1986 Amesty.

And, make no mistake:

"Open Borders" is the policy of the Democrat Party.

I fully realize the President Bush was slow to act on this one, but: Bush isn't running this time!

DougYour name calling simply encourages people to scroll past your posts, rather than read your falsehoods.

So, by all means, keep being childish.

For your most recent post to hold any water, you would have to believe that Mexico produces NO agricultural products at all. You would have to believe that all the workers left, so that now Mexico can not produce due to lack of labor.

This is clearly not true. There is no "vacant" or fallow ground in Mexico, that used to be farmland.

The problems in Mexico are due to Mexican law and Mexican policy. Most notable are the restrictions on land ownership.

Mexico will not allow "corporate farms".

Mexico will not allow "foreign ownership" of real-estate.

http://www.mexicolaw.com/Agriculture.htm#Processing%20&%20Distribution

We need a President who will scold Mexico for the racist policies of the Mexican government.

We simply want the employees at Salvation Army to speak English. We want to protect charities like the Salvation Army from lawsuits if they require their employees to learn English.

We will still allow anyone to own property, however.

What would you liberals think if we did not allow foreigners to purchase real estate, in the United States?

The problems in Mexico are due to the backwards, protectionist, racist policies of the Mexican government.

It is time for America's political leaders to start scolding Mexico for their harmful policies.

Doug

Nancy Pelosi thinks employers should get dragged into court if they require their employees to speak English on the job:

Paul, I know you are ignorant on economic matters so maybe I can explain it to you in simple terms. NAFTA eliminated tariffs which countries put in place to protect jobs in their own country by keeping out cheap imports. Without the tariffs America sent in heavily subsidized agricultural products. The Mexican farmers couldn't compete with America's dumping practices so they lost their jobs and their homes.

Now to complicate matters America's increase consumption of corn for ethanol has increased corn prices. The problem is that the farmers have already lost their jobs and came to America so there aren't many people to produce the crops in Mexico so they must rely on imports. Since you only pay attention to Rush and the Fox Noise Channel you probably missed the protests in Mexico concerning the high corn prices.

Again, I recommend you actually study a subject before commenting on it like you know something.

Kev: When the US clamped down on those who overstayed their Visas, guess where they (mostly Muslims, Hindus and Sikhs) lined up to claim refugee status? Canada, where they've added countless months of administration nightmares to process their claims and try to keep track of them before we can deport. Even then they still clog up the system with appeals. Immigration "Consultants" know that if you can get onto this continent, you can play one system to it's fullest extent and if it looks like you're on the way back to your country of origin, simply cross the line, and start all over again in the new host country. After years of wrangling, Canada and the US will not now accept any refugee claim originating in either country, a point underscored when our Supreme Court denied refugee status to American servicemen who deserted from serving in Iraq. More claims for refugee status in Canada originated from US territory than anywhere else. (non-US citizens of course). People do sneak into the US from Canada but it happens the other way too. We have a problem with Mexicans showing up across the river from Detroit in Windsor, Ontario, aided by Immigration "Consultants" in Florida who decalare Canada as the promised land! We have no idea how many crossed illegally. We both have a problem it's just that yours is a helluva lot bigger......I think.

Not that I support all of the Mexican programs, but to pretend that the Catholic Church controls Mexico is absurd:

KevThe Catholic Church has often been persecuted by the Mexican government. You don't know what you are talking about.

Also, we are talking about MEXICO!

Is it your position that Mexico, a country overun by Marijuana, Cocaine and other drugs, is able to control the supply of BIRTH CONTROL pills?

That is crap.

In fact, prior to Roe V. Wade, Mexico was a common destination for abortions.

Your anti-Catholic bias is showing Kev.

You really don't know what you are talking about.

why don't we bring all the troops home from Iraq to patrol the borders? We need them over here more than we need them in Iraq. Have National guard units spent their mandatory yearly 2 weeks training patrolling the borders also. No need to hire extra border patrol and our troops would be kept trained.

Mexico is a beautiful and well endowed country that has been ruined by the corrupt government and the Catholic Church. The government there is corrupt and fails to have a climate conductive to business. I have heard American business people say that they would rather do business with about anybody but Mexico. At the same time, the Catholic Church has discouraged birth control and made it hard to even get in Mexico which has resulted in overpopulation. But these are problems the Mexican people need to solve beginning with their government. We cannot and should not serve as a safety valve to take the unemployment problem from Mexico.

DougHuh?

NAFTA does not cause the illegals to come here.

Stupid, corrupt, Mexican policy causes Mexico to be poor.

Mexico does a poor job protecting contracts. Mexico does a poor job providing infrastructure to ship products.

Going to Mexico you can see the old border fence which is about 8 feet high. Talking to the locals you'll find that nobody really made much effort to actually get over them before NAFTA because there wasn't much incentive. Now, post-NAFTA there is a huge fence. People driven into poverty because of American corn subsidies and the inability to protect Mexican jobs with tariffs have caused a flood of people to come to America after losing their jobs and homes. About a million and a half Americans have gone to Mexico to live where it's cheaper but a lot are wealthy Americans. A lot of construction is new condos for the rich foreigners to live.

There's two simple things to do. Restructure NAFTA so jobs can be protected in Mexico and America. The other is to punish the illegal employers who hire the illegal immigrants for cheap labor. One will cut the need for Mexicans to leave, the other will cut the incentive for Americans to want them to come here.

Those who have entered this country illegally should NEVER be granted citizenship. Period. If we want to give them some sort of permanent guest worker status, I guess that is okay. But I think they should be able to:
1) SHow proof of residence for at least 5 years.

2)Show proof of employment, or at the least, proof that they have a job available when they are granted the special status.

3)They should show proof of insurance or proof that an employer will give them insurance.

4)They can never get any sort of cash assistance, they must provide some sort of gurantee of major health insurance, at the least.

5) Be exempt from Social security taxes, as they would never be able to collect

6) Be instantanteously deported if found guilty of a felony, or more than 3 misdeamanors, not including traffic.Employers should

1) Be required to hire special status grantees only after a database check for positive identification

2) Be required to provide health insurance

3) be required to fund a pension program for these people, that is transportable...like a roth or 401k

4) be liable for 2 years profit per illegal alien found to be working for them, excluding those checked through the database.

5) Be liable for prison sentences of the ceo/hrdirector etc. if the practice is widespread

Just a start. Other ideas, but gotta go

Kev...

Memo to self: Illegal aliens are outlaws. The 15 to 20 million in American that you think should be licensed drivers, do not have passports, birth certificates or driver's licenses from their country of origin.

Many, if not all, obtain fraudulent identities when they illegally enter the U.S.

That is why they are referred to as "undocumented."

Your logic is flawed, sorry.
