A Hutchinson News interview with former Halstead resident Brandon Mayfield is a sobering depiction of what it was like to be wrongly suspected and detained by the FBI after the Madrid train bombings in 2004.
“To feel certain someone is following and listening to you, and breaking into your home but not announcing they’re there is pretty unsettling. It hurt me to know this is the kind of country I’m living in,” Mayfield said.
Of his recent victory in federal court in his challenge of the constitutionality of parts of the USA Patriot Act, Mayfield said, “I was euphoric. It was even sweeter than our settlement with the government on the underlying portion of the suit. I was happy to be a part of the whole process, to try to assert our constitutional rights. This was not just for me. This was for everyone.”

Notice how the neo-cons would like this story to run and hide away? It makes their bible, the patriot act, look bad, as it should. Junking the United States Constitution is not the best way to either prove ones patriotism, nor fight terrorism. But don’t ask the 28%ers to believe that; it’s beyond their abilities.
This is a classic example of the differences between Democracy and what the Neocons have in mind. In our Democracy it is the sin committed against the individual and not the State that is the big story. Hopefully this is really a isolated case and not to become the norm. But that is the danger when you base your believes in a Socialist ideology. Trotsky would defend and understand the reasoning in the Mayfield case and excuse it. Washington, Jefferson, Adams right up to Clinton would not.

In fact, in a recent SRS case, I was on the “child safety plan” as only one of 6 adults allowed to have physical custody of a “child in need of care.” Juvenile court records are private, but I will produce that record for anyone who feels that they want to see it. No copies, however.
Pretty solid evidence that I am ok, in that regard.
Several years ago, I was hauled into Federal Court during the “Summer of Mercy” — without any jurisdiction, Judge Patrick Kelly claimed that I had ordered kids into the street to block cars.
The kids involved stated, clearly, that I had told them to get OUT of the street.
The 10 Circuit US Court of Appeals threw OUT the “Civil contempt of court” citation against me.
Prior to that victory in the 10th Circuit, Dr. George Tiller had his attorney file a motion in the court saying that there were NO State or Federal charges pending against me, at that time.
Again folks, practice what you preach.
