    Great post PM.

    I feel a wee bit responsible for Open Thread, because it was originally once a week, and as JR will affirm, as he encouraged me, and as Phil will affirm I asked Phil to change it into at least a semi-weekly if not daily thread, and Phil thought that sounded good, so the editors changed it to a daily thread.

    Back then the discourse was intelligent, and my proposal was based on the reasonable fact that Open Thread was by far more popular than the threads whose topics were dreamed up by the editors.

    The ensuing degeneration has been very unpleasant, except to those who are instigating it.

    Bear in mind that the editors could find that Open Thread serves no useful public-enlightenment function, and so they could terminate the thread. Which would be a loss to greater community.

    What is the profit margin on the Open Thread? How much money is bringing to the organization? It really doesn’t serve as a “community service” in the normal sense. You are not passing any public information, events, hours, POC’s, telephone numbers, for any particular “community” are you?

    What is “community” when the blog is open to anyone worldwide with access to a computer?

    Fee for service is the only way to go. Cut’s the rift-raft, allows monitoring/filters, and provides a forum for those truly interested in communicating ideas.

    Anytime ANYone so much as looks cross-eyed at another poster – they are history.

    Ends the problem.

    Good giddling gosh, the open thread has already been turned into the “JM-RepubliKansas 24-7″ thread.

    I have a few points and then I’m out for a while.

    1. I did a bone-dig because I thought that RepubliKhansas said he WASN’T injured in combat and later said that he was.

    Turns out I could find no evidence that he ever said that he WASN’T injured in combat, so I was wrong.

    Yes, you read that correctly: I was wrong.

    2. In the process however I remembered that it was JM who said he wasn’t injured in combat. Remember, Kansas has repeatedly written that he never posted under any other nic, especially JM.

    When I compared some of JM information with RepubliKansas, I found a good deal of evidence to link the two posters as one.

    In Gregg Mierow’s family, there were six boys, brothers who grew into two groups as they reached maturity: Three are gay, and three are straight.

    “It seems innate to me,” Mierow, who works in advertising and as a yoga teacher in Chicago, said of his homosexuality. “It doesn’t seem like there’s any choice involved, and it seemed very clear even when we were very young.”

    Mierow stumbled upon a chance to help prove that hunch at the Northalsted Market Days festival four years ago. Spotting a banner reading, “Wanted! Gay Men with a Gay Brother,” he stopped by the booth and volunteered for what he thought would be little more than a survey. Instead, Mierow found himself part of the Molecular Genetic Study of Sexual Orientation — the most extensive study yet to search for a genetic basis for homosexuality — embarked upon by a team of Chicago researchers from local universities.

    The scientists hope that by gathering DNA samples from 1,000 sets of gay brothers like the Mierows they will be able to find genetic linkages smaller studies failed to detect. They’ll be recruiting brothers again at the Halsted Street festival this weekend.

    The results may ignite controversy, the researchers acknowledge, both by providing ammunition in the raging cultural war over homosexuality and by raising fears about ethically questionable applications like genetic profiling and prenatal testing.

    But, they argue, the research is essential to our biological understanding of sexual behavior.

    “If there are genetic contributions to sexual orientation, they will not remain hidden forever — the march of genetic science can’t be stopped,” said Timothy F. Murphy, bioethicist adviser to the study. “It’s not a question of whether we should or should not do this research, it’s that we make sure we’re prepared to protect people from insidious uses of this science.”

    Although the question of whether homosexuality is a choice remains a hot topic for pundits, scientists are largely in agreement that sexual orientation is at least partially determined by biology.

    Studies that compare identical and fraternal twins for the frequency of a particular behavioral trait have consistently suggested there are both genetic and environmental causes of homosexuality. Identical twins, who share 100 percent of their genes, show a higher chance of both being gay compared with fraternal twins, who typically share the same family environment but only half their genetic code.

    Researchers also have found physical traits that correlate with homosexuality, from the relative size of certain brain areas associated with sexual behavior to seemingly irrelevant characteristics like hair whorl direction and finger-length ratios.

    Inspired by the accumulating circumstantial evidence of genetic factors, researchers in the early ’90s began trying to narrow down the wide expanse of DNA to a few promising regions. By comparing the genetic codes of gay brothers, who also share 50 percent of their genes, a “linkage study” tries to detect areas that show up in both men at a frequency higher than chance, suggesting one or more genes in that region might be linked to sexual orientation.

    In 1993, geneticist Dean Hamer announced his group had found such a region on the X chromosome, which males inherit from their mothers. But the number of brother pairs used in the study was small and subsequent studies failed to replicate Hamer’s findings, throwing the result into question.

    “In complex gene scenarios, people figured out that you need a larger sample size in order to get reasonable statistical power,” said Dr. Alan Sanders, a psychiatrist at Evanston Northwestern Healthcare and the leader of the current study.

    To increase the chances of finding genetic areas associated with homosexuality, Sanders proposed assembling almost 10 times the sibling pairs of previous studies. The project received funding in 2001 and began recruiting subjects at gay pride festivals, through gay-oriented publications and on the Internet.

    So far the Chicago researchers have obtained blood or saliva DNA samples and survey data from more than 600 brother sets, with several hundred other volunteers in the process of submitting one or the other. Sanders hopes to publish his findings from the first wave of DNA samples in a scientific journal sometime next year.

    Sanders cautioned a linkage study can single out only regions of the genetic code, not individual genes.

    “One of the advantages of linkage studies is that we don’t have to know those things ahead of time,” Sanders said. “It’s a big advantage here because we don’t know about the biology of sexual orientation yet, so we can find the genes first and then study the biology.”

    At this point, the researchers do not know what types of genes they may find; they could be related to hormones, sexual development or a completely unexpected system.

    “The genes would probably be doing their work by affecting sexual differentiation of the brain during prenatal life,” said J. Michael Bailey, a Northwestern University psychology professor involved with the project. “But what scientists are increasingly appreciating is that genes can affect a trait in ways you could never have guessed.”The hunt for specific genes that affect sexual orientation may take several years, but the implications of this eventual finding are being fiercely debated already.

    “I think this kind of research receives a lot more criticism and attention because people often think it has profound implications for social and moral decisions,” Bailey said. “This is a controversial area. Even though it fascinates people, it scares people from the research end.”

    Researchers involved with the project believe finding a genetic linkage will help settle arguments over whether homosexuality is a choice or an innate trait. “A lot of times people we talk to see this research as providing evidence for something they may [have] already had a notion for, that sexual orientation is influenced by pretty early events out of their control,” said Sanders.

    Sanders also suggested that as proof of biological predisposition grows, so too does acceptance and tolerance of homosexuals. A Gallup poll conducted in May indicated 42 percent of the surveyed population believe homosexuality is biologically determined — the highest percentage witnessed in 30 years of polling.

    Study volunteer Jason Palmer of Chicago said he hopes evidence of a biological source for homosexuality would change people’s opinions on sexual orientation.

    “Our strongest opponents are the religious right, many of whom feel that God does not make mistakes,” Palmer said. “So if it’s a genetic factor and proven, perhaps many of them will find an acceptance for homosexuals.”

    But some outside observers worry about how proof of a genetic component to homosexuality might be used politically and even medically.

    “If you do research on any human behaviors that would allow us either to treat the behavior or to prevent it altogether by prenatal testing, you have got to ask yourself serious questions about societal context in which this type of research takes place,” said Udo Schuklenk, a professor of philosophy at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario.

    Critics fear identifying a biological component will lead to prenatal testing and perhaps even treatments for homosexuality. While both Sanders and Bailey expressed doubt about the scientific feasibility or public demand for such applications, Schuklenk suggested they were not considering the worldwide implications.

    “I understand why U.S. gays want to know why gay people are gay and understand where they are coming from — there are legal reasons, and the agenda is progressive within the context of the U.S.,” said Schuklenk. “What worries me is that they show a complete disregard of repercussions of research on the international scale, for gay people in societies where civil rights are not as well-protected.”

    Mierow said he considered the potential negative ramifications when he volunteered for the study but trusted that changing social views on homosexuality will intervene.

    “I hope that by the time science gets to the point [of prenatal testing], society would have progressed enough to not have those feelings,” Mierow said. “I feel like I have more trust in science. It seems like a lot of the bigotry is coming out of religion.”

    “People who say that, ‘We shouldn’t know X because knowing X is dangerous,’ to me those are the dangerous people,” Bailey added. “They have provided no good evidence that knowing things is risky; ignorance is what messes us up.”

    For now, these discussions will remain largely theoretical until the results of Sanders’ study, as well as others in progress around the country, begin to be released.

    As Bailey noted, the results won’t just add to knowledge about the roots of homosexuality, they may also answer more general questions about gender and sexuality.

    “I would argue that the most serious threat to the United States is not someone hiding in a cave in Afghanistan or Pakistan but our own fiscal irresponsibility,” Walker tells Kroft.

    David Walker is a prudent man and a highly respected public official. As comptroller general of the United States he runs he Government Accountability Office, the GAO, which audits the government’s books and serves as the investigative arm of the U.S. Congress. He has more than 3,000 employees, a budget of a half a billion dollars, and a message he considers urgent.

    “I’m going to show you some numbers…they’re all big and they’re all bad,” he says.

    So bad, that Walker has given up on elected officials and taken his message directly to taxpayers and opinion makers, hoping to shape the debate in the next presidential election.

    “You know the American people, I tell you, they are absolutely starved for two things: the truth, and leadership,” Walker says.

    He calls it a fiscal wake up tour, and he is telling civic groups, university forums and newspaper editorial boards that the U.S. has spent, promised, and borrowed itself into such a deep hole it will be unable to climb out if it doesn’t act now. As Walker sees it, the survival of the republic is at stake.

    “What’s going on right now is we’re spending more money than we make…we’re charging it to credit card…and expecting our grandchildren to pay for it. And that’s absolutely outrageous,” he told the editorial board of the Seattle Post Intelligencer.

    Beginning next year, and for 20 years thereafter, 78 million Americans will become pensioners and medical dependents of the U.S. taxpayer.

    “The first baby boomer will reach 62 and be eligible for early retirement of Social Security January 1, 2008. They’ll be eligible for Medicare just three years later. And when those boomers start retiring in mass, then that will be a tsunami of spending that could swamp our ship of state if we don’t get serious,” Walker explains.

    Walker says you could eliminate all waste and fraud and the entire Pentagon budget and the long-range financial problem still wouldn’t go away, in what’s shaping up as an actuarial nightmare.

    Part of the problem, Walker acknowledges, is that there won’t be enough wage earners to support the benefits of the baby boomers. “But the real problem, Steve, is health care costs. Our health care problem is much more significant than Social Security,” he says.

    The problem with Medicare, Walker says, is people keep living longer, and medical costs keep rising at twice the rate of inflation. But instead of dealing with the problem, he says, the president and the Congress made things much worse in Dec. 2003, when they expanded the Medicare program to include prescription drug coverage.

    “The prescription drug bill was probably the most fiscally irresponsible piece of legislation since the 1960s,” Walker argues.

    Asked why, Walker says, “Well, because we promise way more than we can afford to keep. Eight trillion dollars added to what was already a 15 to $20 trillion under-funding. We’re not being realistic. We can’t afford the promises we’ve already made, much less to be able, piling on top of ‘em.”

    So where’s that money going to come from?

    “Well it’s gonna come from additional taxes, or it’s gonna come from restructuring these promises, or it’s gonna come from cutting other spending,” Walker says.

    “On cost we’re number one in the world. We spend 50 percent more of our economy on health care than any nation on earth,” he says.

    Walker says we have promised almost unlimited healthcare to senior citizens who never see the bills, and the government already is borrowing money to pay them. He says the system is unsustainable.

    “It’s the number one fiscal challenge for the federal government, it’s the number one fiscal challenge for state governments and it’s the number one competitive challenge for American business. We’re gonna have to dramatically and fundamentally reform our health care system in installments over the next 20 years,” Walker tells Kroft.

    And if we don’t?

    “And if we don’t, it could bankrupt America,” Walker argues.

    You’re probably expecting to hear from someone who disagrees with the comptroller general’s numbers, projections, and analysis. But hardly anyone does. He is accompanied on the wake-up tour by economists from the conservative Heritage Foundation, the left-leaning Brookings Institution, and the non-partisan Concord Coalition. The only dissenters seem to be a small minority of economists who believe either that the U.S. can grow its way out of the problem, or that Walker is over-stating it.

    Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke validated much of Walker’s take on the situation at congressional hearings this year, and so did ranking Republicans and Democrats on the Senate Budget Committee. Senator Kent Conrad of North Dakota is the chairman.

    Sen. Conrad thinks David Walker is “providing an enormous public service.”

    Conrad acknowledges that most people in Washington are aware how bad the situation is. “They know in large measure here, Republicans and Democrats, that we are on a course that doesn’t add up,” the senator tells Kroft.

    “Why doesn’t somebody do something about it?” Kroft asks.

    “Because it’s always easier not to. ‘Cause it’s always easier to defer, to kick the can down the road to avoid making choices. You know, you get in trouble in politics when you make choices,” Sen. Conrad says.

    “Any politician who tells you that we can solve our problem without reforming Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid is not telling you the truth,” Walker told an audience at the University of Denver.

    We are trillions in debt. Not just by current administration. It goes back to LBJ in the sixties when he started funding the new social programs and they took the Social Security Trust Fund and directed all FICA payments into the general fund.

    Bush may have let republicans down and ruined their belief in the conservatives being financially astute, but he did not cause the problem.

    Solution will involve ALL parties, and will not happen if we start new entitlement programs.

    The Trustees Report

    The projection comes from the 2004 Social Security Trustees report which estimates that the system’s unfunded obligations are $10.4 trillion over the course of what they call the “infinite horizon.” Historically, the infinite-horizon projection has not been included in the annual report, and was only added in 2003.

    Previously the Trustees had used only a 75-year projection to estimate the system’s long-term deficits, roughly the length of a human lifetime. (Average life expectancy at birth has now increased to just over 77 years, up from just under 75 years as recently as the 1980’s, according to the National Center for Health Statistics.) The Social Security Trustees’ 2004 projection shows a $3.7 trillion shortfall over this 75-year period.

    The Trustees reasoned that the 75-year window should be extended to the infinite future to give policymakers a better idea of the changes necessary to keep the system sustainable indefinitely — especially beyond 2078 when they said Social Security’s deficit will be increasing even faster than during the next 75 years.

    The DDT Fiasco

    Ever since the World Health Organization reversed the environmentalist-promoted ban on DDT in 2006, eco-activists have scrambled to devise new ways to malign the life-saving insecticide in order to salvage their badly marred reputation.

    The study was small (including only 133 women with breast cancer), completely omitted data on key risk factors for breast cancer (such as genetics and family history) and only partially considered other potential risk factors (such as pregnancy and breast-feeding history). All of which amply explains the study’s internal contradictions and statistical flakiness.

    The vast majority of the statistical correlations reported in the study were either zero or negative — meaning no relationship between DDT and breast cancer. Accepting the negative ones at face value, as Myers did the positive, would support the equally unlikely implication that DDT might actually prevent breast cancer. Moreover, the positive correlations were highly suspect.

    Assuming purely for the sake of argument that DDT does increase the risk of breast cancer, do Snedeker’s concerns even make any sense?

    Zimbabwe, for example, has about 2,000 cases of breast cancer per year, affecting about 0.016 percent of the population. In contrast, about 1.5 million cases of malaria occur there annually, affecting more than 12 percent of the population.

    Avoiding the use of DDT to control malaria in Zimbabwe and other similarly afflicted areas because of concerns of breast cancer is clearly absurd — only made more so by the speciousness of the claim that DDT increases breast cancer risk.

    As Randall Dodd concluded in his Wall Street Journal letter, “… in the context of the millions of people, principally children, who die from malaria every year, even if one suspends disbelief and grants the [Mount Sinai researchers] their findings, an elevated potential risk of the maladies they mention is outweighed exponentially by the certainty of millions of deaths, most of them avoidable, from malaria.” FOX NEWS

    Bush’s plan was rejected, thanks to a lot of bad press, the AARP group, and it’s own dying weight.

    The plan would have hosed me. I would not have time to recover under reduced benefits – nor time to grow my personal account. It also increased the minimum retirement age to 70, which screws everyone who didn’t inherit longevity.

    In short: It needed some work.

    However, I still believe that is the way to go for young people. Start them looking at their own personal statements, investing wisely, and seeing the power of compound interest.

    The alternative is to wait thirty years, and have them ask the very same question you are asking now ROX:

    “Where’s the money?”

    Consider yourself lucky to be in Kansas during the national election. Very little is spent here by national candidates compared to the big electoral vote states or those with early polls, primaries. Iowa for example, offers little to get presidential votes – but they are first.

    Kansas is a fly over state. No reason to even stop. Oh we will get commercials, those paid for on national broadcasts, but we are really fortunate not to be inundated with what the other states are experiencing.

    I think all parties are tired of hearing them by election day.

    (of course we are UNlucky in that we have little pull because we are so small. In particular, the few blue people amongst us. They are even a smaller minority.)

    Perhaps, but from the lessons learned of the last two elections concerning Electoral College votes, I think both sides will be paying very close attention.

    It’s kind of like saving pennies. Slow at the beginning, but after awhile one realize the substantial accumulation one has when the “penny jar” is bursting at the seams.

    The analogy can be applied to the electoral votes accumulation.

    Police today issued a warning to all men who frequent clubs and parties. Females are using a drug called “beer” to target unsuspecting men. This drug comes in liquid form and is available nearly everywhere.

    “Beer” is used by females to persuade hapless male victims to go home with them. Women need only persuade a man to consume a few of these “beers” and then ask him home for no-strings- attached sex, a simple approach that renders most men helpless. After several “beers,” men will have sex with even unattractive women. Often men awaken with only hazy memories of the night before, a horrible headache, and a vague feeling that something bad happened.

    Some really unfortunate men are even separated from their life’s savings in a scam called “a relationship.” In extreme cases, females have entrapped unsuspecting males into long-term servitude through a punishment called “marriage.” Apparently, men are much more susceptible to this scam once “beer” is administered.

    If you, or some man you know, have fallen victim to this insidious “beer” and the women who administer it, rest assured: Male support groups exist in every major city where you can discuss the ugly details of your encounter in an open and frank manner with similarly affected, like-minded guys.     Granted, the arctic ice cap acts like a big heat sink and moderates the arctic region but the current melting is just part of a normal cycle. We couldn’t stop it if we tried.

    However, evolution is a naturally slow process. What the Climate Alarmists are suggesting is rapid mutation not evolution. (pardon the biology example)

    Technology that is viable enough to replace fossil fuels will take time no matter how much money we dump into it.

    Fossil fuel combustion engines are very inefficient. Therefore, the problem too is with coming up with an engine design that will burn alternative fuels efficiently. This kind of technology will take many years.

    I didn’t make my point clear. I’m not going to live the rest of my life “hiding under a school desk”, waiting for the bomb. Too many years of living in fear has cured me of that.

    The other point is that I think it’s the height of hypocracy to be among the top countries with nuclear weapon capabilities and think we can tell everyone else if they can or can’t. Yes, I understand the Nuclear Proliferation Treaty and all that, but I doubt we’re coming clean on our numbers, anymore than anyone else is.

    The problem too Max in regards to Nuclear Weapons is that the amount held by the former Soviet Union is spread out into separate autonomous governments.

    There is no longer a super power like the Soviet Union anymore that uses nuclear blackmail as a tool to get its way in the world.

    Do you need to be reminded of US efforts in WWI and WWII in helping our allies? Do you need to be reminded of what kept Western Europe free at a time when the Soviets could easily have blitzkreiged the whole continent in a matter of weeks?

    And blaming the US for disguising it’s inventory of weapons? Why should we put all of our cards face up on the table, when we know others if given the chance, would take us out in a heartbeat?

    nathan, for a person who doesn’t know me you sure make assumptions that are not correct. I did not say anything about assuming the worst I said it very plain “what are we going to do about it” I think that bantering on about it is or isn’t warming is not productive. I think we should discuss the situation & brain storm ways that humans could help minimize effects, we may not be able to do very much at all, but it should be discussed. This isn’t the first time the earth warmed but I haven’t seen very much scientific data on the effects of past warming.

    No, I’m not for nuclear proliferation, and I sure don’t know where I said that. I’m also not insane, and I’m as American as you are. I do not think the U.S. is some evil empire, out to destroy the world. Rule the world, at times, maybe. :)

    BUT…everybody wants to arms themselves against the evil nuclear weapon owning countries…with (wait for it) nuclear weapons. A monster has been created. I think that’s a lesson were learned really well after Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

    Let’s just say I’m anti-nuclear weaopns. Period. For anybody. Because what we have created is insanity. If I lived in a country that didn’t have nuclear weapons, I’d probably want a few too, just so I could say, “Hey, lookee here! I’ve got what you’ve got! You wanna do something about it?”

    It’s too tempting. But I know there’s nothing that can be done about it. As long as some countries have nuclear weapons, all countries will want to have them eventually. For defense, of course.

    STUART, Fla. – This South Florida community some 90 miles north of Miami is outraged after a suspected illegal alien allegedly raped a puppy.

    The man, who initially told police his name was Junio Trenta but is believed to be Enrique Garcia, was taken into custody after Martin County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a possible animal in distress.

    When they arrived, officers “saw Garcia sexually assaulting a 28-pound, 14- to 16-week-old dog of mixed breed,” according to the sheriffs office.

    Upon being seen, the Mexican transient said, “It’s my dog,” and, “What’s the problem?”

    The arrest affidavit indicates the male dog ran and hid behind the deputies.

    Garcia then talked with detectives and admitted only to having the dog in his lap.

    He’s now charged with sexual bestiality, animal cruelty, possession of drug paraphernalia, giving a false name and exposure of sexual organs. His bond is $13,000.

    The dog, a 4-month-old Argentine Dogo, is reportedly being cared for by the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast.

    “He’s already been evaluated by the vet, and the vet says he’s OK and will recover from whatever happened,” Humane Society spokeswoman Roberta Synal told the Stuart News. “If he’s put in a good foster home, he’s going to get lots of love and training.”

    U.S. agents say they’ve broken up a multi-state prostitution ring operated by and for illegal aliens.

    According to court documents, brothels located in Travis County, Texas, and Oklahoma City, used women from Mexico as well as Central and South American countries to sell sexual acts for fellow unlawful immigrants.

    The alleged ringleader, 34-year-old Juan Balderas-Orosco, was ordered held without bail pending a hearing.

    “The organization recruits females … and arranges for them to be smuggled into the United States. The aliens are held in indentured servitude and forced into prostitution,” an arrest affidavit said, according to the Austin American-Statesman.

    The paper says two of the women were from Honduras, and “when one arrived in town in June, a man at the house showed her a .38-caliber revolver and told her that she couldn’t leave, she told federal agents. A week later, the man in charge took the money the two had earned and said they could not have any of it until they worked a week at a brothel in Oklahoma City.”

    A federal affidavit indicates once there, another man flashed a gun and told the women he “did not want any trouble from them or ‘they could disappear very easily.’”

    In 2002, authorities raided a house, which they later alleged was a brothel run by Balderas. Two Mexican men and two women, one from Colombia and the other from the Dominican Republic were arrested. The women said they had been transported among locations in several states and forced to perform sex acts for money.

    Documents state that in June 2005, agents “placed a covert pole camera to allow continued surveillance on the brothel.”

    A brothel in Dallas was raided the same day, and Balderas was arrested after leaving an Oklahoma City brothel.

    As WND reported in May, a researcher estimates there are about 240,000 illegal immigrant sex offenders in the United States who have had an average of four victims each.

    This article describes what cosmos does when discussing Global Warming. It was written by someone else, but it’s like they have witnessed first hand what cosmos writes here. Check it out, it fits him perfectly in every way.

    Definition: Glowarmer – those with an almost religious belief that humans are the cause of global warming. They also believe that we are headed for certain disaster unless we institute draconian measures to combat global warming.

    One of the first things you need to realize is they will always call you a liar. It does not matter how many studies you present or what evidence you present, to them you are always lying. The way in which to counter this is to challenge them to prove that you are lying.

    You also must realize that they will expect you to answer any and all questions asked of you, but they will not answer any questions you have for them. This has been proven time and time again that they have a double standard when it comes to answering serious questions.

    No matter how many times you answer a question, glowarmers will always claim that you didn’t answer. They do this in an attempt to get under your skin. Don’t make the mistake of responding to this sort of nonsense more then once. Another possibility why they do this is because you didn’t give them the answer they wanted.

    Glowarmers will always want you to qualify your statements and then of course call you a liar (see item 1) Remember they are not interested in hearing facts that contradict their viewpoint.

    Glowarmers will always try to make the conversation about your credibility. They don’t want anyone hearing anything that contradicts their fanatical beliefs. Furthermore, they cannot back their beliefs with any solid scientific studies. Instead they will always take the easy way out. It is always easier to challenge the messenger then it is to disprove the message. Don’t ever fall into this trap.

    When challenged on a statement they make, glowarmers will always claim they didn’t make the statement or that they were quoting from what some one else has said. Make sure you always have a record of exactly what they said and when they said it (this applies to online chat forums) Keep challenging them. First make your point and then at the end ask them if they are ever going to prove that what they said is true. Don’t respond to anything else they have said until they qualify their statement.

    Glowarmers are bullies. They will always try to get you to respond with anger, thus making you look foolish. Don’t fall into that trap. If you don’t respond in anger, it make glowarmers crazy and they usually will respond to your lack of response with anger and come out looking foolish themselves.

    Always let glowarmers keep talking. The more they talk the more ridiculous they seem.

    Always know exactly what scientist said what and the date and publication or speech it first was said in. Glowarmers will try to challenge your credibility because of a possible faulty memory as to where the information comes from.

    No matter how many awards a scientist has received, glowarmers think they are the final judge as to who is a “legitimate” and “credible” scientist. According to glowarmers, any scientist who dares challenge the notion that humans are the cause of climate change are not credible.Always remember, the information you are presenting is not geared toward a glowarmer. It is geared toward those people who haven’t decided or have all ready decided that climate change is natural but haven’t heard much of the information you have.”
