Democrats rightly complained about how long Republicans, led by Sen. Pat Roberts, R-Kan., were taking to investigate what went wrong with the prewar intelligence on Iraq. Now, Republicans including Roberts are rightly complaining about how long Democrats are taking on the same Senate Intelligence Committee "Phase II" investigation. Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va., who succeeded Roberts as chairman, said early this year that he wanted the report out by summer. Last week, he said it’s "chugging along very nicely," according to Congressional Quarterly’s CQ Today.
A statement from Roberts’ office cried foul at the apparent double standard: "The Democrats now control both houses of Congress. They are free to conduct whatever investigations they care to conduct. They are free to issue whatever reports they wish to issue. What a difference an election makes. Gone is the outrage. Gone are the smoking guns. And Phase II is nowhere to be found. The only thing different this time around is that nobody seems to care. Why is that?"
Whatever the reason, Americans should demand the vital report sooner rather than any later. Yes, the issue is complex, but three years is long enough.

WTF? What are they ALL hiding?
The Rude Pundit calls it again. Rude language and images, so not for the faint of heart.
Cowards of the County. heheheh.

Democrats. Republicans. Politicians are politicians.
It is time to move past our current two-sides of the same coin system so we can enjoy some real progress in the American government.
1. Term limits for Congress.2. Elimination of political party affiliation from federal election ballots.3. Congressional pay equals the median household income in the district represented, with increases matched solely to increases in Social Security.
Democrats actually DO something other then complain?
Not going to happen.
“3. Congressional pay equals the median household income in the district represented, with increases matched solely to increases in Social Security.
I’d like that except…
You could put the salary at zero, and then even MORE rich, out of touch people would run.
. Elimination of political party affiliation from federal election ballots.
Uh Unh uh. I don’t want some reptilian conservative sliding by me. I’ve not the time to investigate every single candidate. “R” behind the name tell me all I need to know.
I would bet there is a Repbulican stall compeonent to the delay in this investigation.
“I would bet there is a Repbulican stall compeonent to the delay in this investigation.”
Ya know JR, I actually wondered if the work was so shoddy under the R chair that they had to start completely over to produce something of value.

That is unfortunate JR. There are a lot of R’s in Kansas that do the same thing, but their pencil gravitates toward the R rather than away.
Having no party affiliation on the ballot would reduce uninformed party tickets.
Now perhaps the incumbent ‘i’ should remain on the ballot…
Did someone already mention:
WE STILL HAVE NO 2008 FISCAL YEAR APPROPRIATION BILLS FROM CONGRESS.
They ALL suck!!!!!

Same ol’, same ol’.
Funny. Selective outrage.
Gosh, maybe Roberts was doing as well as could be done under the circumstances. Ha.
actually i’m pretty sure the democrats are stalling because they were all briefed on allot of the programs and when the report comes out they can’t hide from the truth.. and Burger isn’t there to steal the facts from the aarchives this time.. or at least not until Hillary brings him back..
BG to an extent I believe you are correct, there were so many who failed in this that both parties are at fault.CYA is as much a concern as the truth, so much so I believe we maybe in as much danger as back in 2003.

Good point kfg.
Democrites must be expert marksmen as they are pro at shooting each other in the foot.
Perhaps they should send Murtha out as their designated spokesman again.
That way they could get Phase 1.1 going and be well on their way to Phase II.
or not…
Those soldiers file a lawsuit against Murtha yet?
Since Roberts wouldn’t allow the committee to look into so many things, it’s small wonder they had to go back to square one (Roberts had rounded all of the squares.)The report will no doubt throw Roberts into more ill repute than he already has, and thus his cries to get it out, and (hopefully for him) behind him before the next election.I bet it’s going to be a doozy!
No doubt Phase 1 should be revisited!
How about telling Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy to get off his rear end and move the nomination along of Michael Mukasey to be the next Attorney General? After a long delay, the Judiciary Committee finally held hearings last week. But they haven’t held a vote to move his nomination to the floor. They haven’t even put the nomination on the docket for future consideration in the Judiciary Committee. Wouldn’t you think that the Senate Democrats, the same ones who couldn’t wait for Alberto Gonzales to leave, would want someone in there that even ultra-lefty Chuck Schumer esteems?
Which Senator do you think has the most to gain by stalling on the nomination of Mukasey? Which Senator benefits from having a Justice Department in a continued state of transition for the rest of the Bush administration? I’ll give you a hint. She’s running for president.

The Answer: Hillary Clinton has the most to lose if a new Attorney General is appointed quickly.

If there are any illegalities in the Clinton campaign fundraising, it’s going to be up to the next Attorney General to decide whether or not to investigate, prosecute, or hire an outside counsel to look into it. The longer the Bush Justice Department is in disarray, the more the Clinton machine can try and run out the clock.
Do Buss-boys in China Town have a union?
That is where a big chunk of Hillary’s money is comming from!
The AG office runs quite nicely without an AG. They have deputies and assistants mostly running the workings of the AG office anyway. It’s a huge number of people there.
I see it’s still all TROLL, all the time!
Don’t you have an engineering class to go to troll-boy?
Ya know JR, I actually wondered if the work was so shoddy under the R chair that they had to start completely over to produce something of value.

This is why thinking democrats rate Reid and Pelosi at 11% approval ratings they know the idiots are out their looking up to them. Our heros. What can we stall today?
The real democrats are catching on.
This article doesn’t sound like it’s about a guy that crave bi-partianship. Sounds like Roberts’ true partianship is yet again surfacing. He must miss the old days (not that long ago), when he could be justa as partisan as he liked!
Roberts, you made a deal with the devil (bush), do the honorable thing and retire thy self. It is not too late to seek redemption for your Administration pandering ways!
Senator Roberts is his own man. I don’t care what side of the aisle you sit- it’s pretty clear. He voted for SCHIP which was not an administrative choice. You nay-sayers would argue he did this as a clear move to set himself apart, but that isn’t true. Check his voting record- he continues to support children’s health insurance and has since elected. Yesterday, he added an amendment to the farm bill that would truly assist Kansas farmers in regards to crop insurance. The theme is clear- his priorities are Kansas priorities.
The Democrats are now faced with the truly challenging task of developing Phase II. Most of the members are the same on the committee, meaning they’ve been reviewing the same information for 3 years now, yet no report. The media and political pundits have created an idea that this should be an easy task to complete. It isn’t easy though, and Democrats and Republicans both now know the complexities that plague a report of this nature.
ryan,
Get much money from Senator Roberts, do you?
The fact that Senator Rockefeller is also a tool doesn’t mean that Senator Roberts wasn’t also.
‘Senator Roberts is his own man.’ Yeah-ha–except when Dick Cheney comes a’ callin,’ at which point Pat does what he’s told, when he’s told.
Well, like I said. WTF do they ALL want to hide?
Someone should remind them ALL that the cover-up is always worse than the crime.
Appears the Whine-a-Crats are out in force today.
