Someone suggests in today’s Opinion Line that President Bush’s SCHIP veto was an early Christmas present for Democrats. If so, another is Sen. Larry Craig, R-Idaho, who is continuing his legal fight over his guilty plea in a sex-sting arrest and who says in an hour-long NBC interview to air tonight that Mitt Romney, who had chosen Craig as his congressional fundraising co-chairman, “not only threw me under his campaign bus, he backed up and ran over me again.”
Clearly, though, Al Gore’s Nobel Peace Prize was an early Christmas present for Republicans (the Weekly Standard’s Bill Kristol said on “Fox News Sunday” that “it’s a prize given by bloviators to a bloviator for nothing”).
Any other early gift giving to add to the list, bloggers?

If Gore’s prize is a Christmas gift for Republicans then they should get a nice stocking stuffer!IN the grand scheme of things it means nothing compared to the “gifts” given the Democrats. The Nobel Prize is only a bright shiny object for the Extreme to point to because they do not have anything to counter Schips and Craig. Now the whole Craig affair is in reality not more important then the Prize.
SCHIPS is of some importance and it also shows that some Republicans can put principles above Partisanship. At-a-boy for you Sen. Roberts! Just remember Senator that ole saying, “It take a thousand at-a-boys to wipe out one Ah shoot!”.
Welcome back, john doe #2!
Long time no see.
The republican party has provided a stream of “Gifts” to Democrats for the past 3 years. Now if we could just keep Democrats from snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
I don’t have much use for Gore, but let’s face it; a Nobel is a very prestigious award. Wouldn’t you know republicans would try to denigrate it. Now if Bush had gotten a Peace Prize….
Ha ha ha ha, ho ho ho ho, hee hee hee hee, snort, cackle!
Sorry, got carried away there. “Peace” and “Bush” just don’t go in the same sentence. Bush is more a “war crimes” type….
Awww but we have a gift for the Republicans too. It is the Diebold electronic voting machine! The gift that keeps on giving!
Democrats should do all we can to make sure Larry Craig stays in the news as much as possible. Glad to se he is doing lots of TV and radio interviews.
Calvin Trillin publishes a political poem each week in “The Nation.” Here’s what he came up with for the October 29 issue:
On Larry Craig’s Decision To Serve Out His Term In The Senate
The presence of L. Craig dismaysRepublicans, since it displaysAn issue they don’t want to raise:That people who are gay these daysMay not be two male fiancesWho go in drag to cabaretsAnd cuddle lengthways on a chaiseAnd talk of opera and ballets. The people who are gay these daysMay be Republicans who praiseThe right wing’s antigay cliches.Hypocrisy, which this conveys,Could make it awkward bashing gays. But count on them to find some ways.
–Calvin Trillin
Good old Larry Craig bashing gays. Now he’s even hitting himself over the head.
Sigh, see what I mean, who give a rats ass if Craig is gay or not people! Who give a rats ass if Rush is bashing the troops or not? What differences does any of it make? For goodness sake, we have troops dying in a country that they had no reason to be in. We are setting at a cross roads and facing a damn cliff if we attack Iran. Those that led us by the nose into invading a country that it turns out did not do anything to us to warrant our actions. ARE still calling the shots and we are arguing about things that are nothing!
What difference will it make if one party or another is winning the one unmans ship if the Neoconservatives arrange for us to loss our personal freedoms as they want us to? The back biting and partisanship give them the shiny object they need to distract us while they work to end America as we know it. Perpetual war, usingour military to spread their version of “Democracy” based on the ideology of Marx and Lenin. We are being sandwiched by two delusional groups. The Neoconservatives and the Islamic fundamentalists, of the two who is in a better place to end our country? For now which is more able to deny us our rights and bring us into a world war? Al-Qaeda is a bunch of kooks that only through our actions can they gain in power.
The Neoconservatives have power now and only through the actions of the American people can they lose it.
They did not cause 9-11, but have used it to farther their cause, it is up to us now. Shall we continue to set here fighting over some silly who said what and whom is screwing whom. Or shall we fight to save our nation? Which is more important to you?
It matters because everytime we show how corrupt and inept they are, is one step closer to getting them OUT of office.
Prices on oil rise to $88 per barrel. Conflict between Turkey and Kurds, as well as a badly devalued dollar are seen as reasons behind this disturbing trend:

Larry Craig just does not know when to keep his mouth shut, does he?
In Response To The Contention That Discourse Shall Always Be Solemn
These daysUnless you converse in sweet FrancaisOr load your Texas Toast with mayonaise(Perhaps you favor hollandaise
Or painting still lifes of your favorite vase),It’s hard not to notice Craig’s public toilet phaseIn light of Republican foraysIn taking cheap shotsAt our nation’s gays.
Is the problem that Larry Craig is gay, or that he says one thing and does another?
Because if the problem is the latter, I have the same issue with the other 99 senators.
Larry Craig will provide the ’stocking stuffer’ for the Republican party
Clearly, though, Al Gore’s Nobel Peace Prize was an early Christmas present for Republicans (the Weekly Standard’s Bill Kristol said on “Fox News Sunday” that “it’s a prize given by bloviators to a bloviator for nothing”).
He should know.
I watched Craig’s interview for as long as I could stomach. Claims he’s a victim of “gay profiling.” If that truely were the case, the irony would be stunning; Craig, the victim of the same prejudice he worked so hard to promote. That would prove there really is a God!
Quantas CEO says the bad news for airlines is that oil cost more dollars, the good news is that the declining value of the dollar is offsetting the increase; at least for foreign airlines.
