After its strange and short-lived booking of former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, the Wichita Metro Chamber of Commerce has settling on former White House press secretary Tony Snow to be the keynote speaker at its Dec. 4 annual meeting. Those hoping for more bipartisanship among the chamber’s guests will be disappointed. But Snow, a former Fox News anchor, is a skilled communicator who has excelled in his profession, including his year and a half speaking for the president. And it was hard to be unmoved by Snow’s White House departure last week to spend more time with his family and improve his income as he continues to fight cancer. His “cheerful, people-loving spirit,” as columnist Clarence Page put it, has won admirers on the left and right.

people loving spirit?
I don’t think so. Wonder how much money he’s going to make now? I’m glad he can afford his cancer treatments. Is that people loving spirit only for those who can afford to pay for cancer treatment?
Come on P_mom,
That was more petty than I expect of you.
Let these folks (you know who they are) be the petty folks that they are. A new day is coming. That is partly why there has been this conservative steroid love-fest the last few days.
You know I really liked Snow as the President’s press secretary, even though I could not believe a word he said. His manner was warm and likeable, LOL kind of like a cop who seems a pleasure to talk to while he is writing out the ticket.
As Dog says, there’s something likable about Snow, and he’s a much better choice than Rumfilled.
Is it just me, or is our local Chamber of Commerce totally infatuated with the Bush Administration’s mystical handling of Commerce??? You know, the mystical handling of finances?? Is it something to do with how our community has mystically handled the funding on the Arena, and the Bowling Tournament, and the gambling issue, and, and, etc., etc….
ooops scratch the mystical… insert mis-handling… LOL
They are desperate for a Republican shill to speak, any will do. Bet Rove was on their dream list.
Steven I don’t find it petty at all when other people are unable to get medical care to get diagnosed with cancer or other illness because they don’t have the insurance and wno’t pay out of pocket to have the tests run. They sit there and hope that the symptoms they’re having will go away and be nothing major.
Health coverage, not health insurance. Insurance is spreading risk. Coverage is asking for, well…coverage!
Well GOd, hate the man because hes health insurance. Nice.
Pmom is not hating Snow simply because he has health insurance - really now and others are calling her posting petty?
Snow’s colon cancer came back and I feel for him for that reason, and that reason only.
I also was diagnosed with colon cancer in April 2007 and went through 32 days in the hospital and currently in chemo treatments.
Anyone facing a catastrophic disease will tell you exactly how our current healthcare system is - it sucks bit time! And I have excellent health insurance.
One day of recent testing for me cost $6,000 - for 3 tests!
Now who do you know that can pay $6,000 out of pocket for 3 tests? I don’t know of any average American that can do that.
My medical bills to date (that the insurance has paid) comes to $198,549.22. And there were alot of bills that my excellent health care isurance does not cover - we had to pay for that out of pocket. And my treatment is nowhere near finished.
Tony Snow could the country a favor and help the spotlight on the healthcare crisis we have in this country; but I am afraid that the only thing he will do is to line his pockets even more. Typical Republican.
I thought Tony resigned “to spend more time with [his] family.”
I assume he’s bringing his family to the Chamber dinner and his multi-thousand dollar speaking engagement.
“Tony Snow a better pick”
Well, another DUH!
Just about ANYONE would be a better pick than rumsfeld, no?
Well, maybe not AG AG, but anyone else….
MaidMarion–Okay. Hate was too strong a word. I apologize Pmom. The correct was was Attack. And that she did.FOr your condition, I am sorry that you have to face both the illness, and the high bills that go along with that. Been there, done that. Not with cancer, but with a lifethreatening disease with one of my children. The total for my child’s hospital stay, diagnostic tests, and multiple doctor bills, was over $500,000. ANd that was 20 years ago. I had insurance. Good insurance. Paid most of it. My portion was so large that I ended up in bankruptcy. Not by my choice, but some of the collectors called night and day. At home, at work, and at my wifes work. Went to a financial counselor. Two in fact. My portion was so much more than my income, they stated ony recourse was bankruptcy. So I did. I’ve been there. But I will not state that our healthcare system “sucks big time.” It worked as it should, and my child is now oper twenty.
Is there a healthcare crisis? Yeah for some. SOme have no choice in their current condition. Others need to change their condition.ANd I don;t know of anybody who has been refused life saving treatment because they didn;t have insurance. Of course, I only know of who I know, there are over 300 million that I do not
Littlejohn- sorry to hear about your kid but my kid also was diagnosed insulin dependent diabetic when he was 5yrs old, so I know how long-term diseases can take its toll on people.
When I stated that healthcare system sucks - I was referring to the way it is being run by profit-driven corporations and it’s ridiculous high billing charges.
My surgeon and primary care physician are great. My first cancer doctor was only in it for the high billings and I quickly surmised that fact and found me another doctor that was interested in helping me to battle my cancer. My first doctor was on the phone with other patients during my exam times - and he never apologized once for it and it happened each and every time during the first 3 months.
But in the case of my cancer, I was advised by the hospital finanical office to divorce my husband, quit my job and then I would qualify for free medical care from Medicaid.
Funny thing, littlejohn, I was advised the very same thing when my child was 5 years old and diagnosed diabetic. Only, at that time, I had two children. I was also advised at that time to divorce my husband, quit my job and then me and both my children would be eligible for free healthcare through Medicaid.
Now, I ask you, is this the moral thing to do? Is this something that our country needs for people to do?
I’ve stated before, if all the people go get free healthcare from somewhere - then at some point there will be no free healthcare left to get. Too many people at the free trough - and the entire healthcare system will collapse.
Do you not agree?

That is outrageous, and should never have happened.

I don;t know. Not enough coffee. I cannot figure out what you are trying to say. Sorry
The headline reads–
“Tony Snow a better pick”
They left out the R . . .
“Those hoping for more bipartisanship among the chamber’s guests will be disappointed.”
Who would be the pick for a “more bipartisan” guest? Can anyone name one?
ANybody with a “Democrat” behind his name.
“Fox News anchor”
that says it all.
how about someone who isn’t a liar and spokesman for the killers of 3800 american kids.

I didn’t realize the chamber is a political club.
All this time I thought the chamber is a business org.
tony snow. hahaha. That’s lame.Karma in the form of cancer caught up with the liar.
Oh, I’m sorry. I forgot only republicans are allowed to defame, hurt good peoples reps, solicit sex from other men in public rest rooms, and waste taxpayer money on drugs, booze, hookers, and invading the wrong country.
Your stupid attitude has hurt our country more than many of our enemies.

Isn’t it odd that you repukes always know what to say, or how to twist the truth around to allow you to take the high road.
Until someone mentions the truth to you . Then you instead of seeing the truth, you fall back on… oh, gosh i don’t understand the question.
Did rush not cover what to think about that one yesterday??
oh boy.tony snow is comming to wichita.what do you expect to learn from tony?how to tell the truth?ummm no.how to stand up for the best interests of your country?not that either.how to spin killing 3765 american kids?closer.how to ignore wasting $12,000,000.00 an hour in iraq?oh yeah.how to say “oh my gosh did you see, read, hear what those dems did, with a straight look on your mug?yes.
how does this guy relate to business in wichita??
“how does this guy relate to business in wichita??”
Are you kidding me?
Tony Snow EPITOMIZES business in Wichita. GOBN anyone?
Wouldn’t it make more sense for the chamber to find business people to speak rather than politicos?

Gee whiz, since the Chamber of Commerce is supposed to ba a non-partisan business booster, how about someone who ran a successful business — Steve Jobs or Jack Welsh or Warren Buffett, say?
It’s the Chamber who insists on politicizing these fundraisers.
ur sad-
You got the adults to pay attention to you, now back and play in the litter box.

And apparently, Holman. I think a successful business, such as either of those mentioned, would be highly prefereable to a political name, of either party.
“Wouldn’t it make more sense for the chamber to find business people to speak rather than politicos?”
Well yeah, but then, they’d have to ACT like a business org instead of an arm of the republican party.
I wonder when they will start their pac reporting?
Chambers are usually 501(c)4’s not (c)3’s. There are restrictions on the political activities of (c)4’s.
Is anyone watching the hen house?
LJ, sometimes just getting to a doctor IS lifesaving treatment. Or do you advocate being diagnosed with terminal cancer in the ER when your bowel finally ruptures from the cancer ‘lifesaving”. Lifesaving for all of 3 months?

Yeah. I advocate that all the time. Sure. THrow rocks. Make stupid statements like the one above. Helps persuade me. Riiiight
A shill is still a shill, irregardless of their political affilation. What type of entertainment/learning experience does that serve??

ok, is it a waste of time to ask a repuke if they are interested in saving anyone’s life?
on blackwater…it’s ok to kill unarmed adults and kids too if they look at them wrong out on the street.on healthcare…oh, you know if someone really wants healthcare they could get it.on kids and education…with 100% of professors being liberal wackos a kid don’t need no education nowadays anyway.on iraq…saddam had wmds, we found them over there. sadaam caused 9/11.on the military…only we support the troops.
on one extended tour after another…no one forced them to join the military, they knew going in they fight in wars.on the homeless…it’s not true some homeless are vets, they just don’t want to work.on larry craig…shhhhh.orwell, i have reached under the stall divider to pick up a square of toilet paper off the floor behind his shoe, so what (we need votes).diplomacy in the middle east…do what we say or we will bomb you and kill your family, we rock.
so, no they don’t care about other people.
they don’t even care about themselves.
Here are some other suggestions that would also make great speakers: Mark Foley (he could speak at the Boys and Girls Club), Larry Craig (he could speak from the Century II men’s room), G. Gordon Liddy, E. Howard Hunt, Charles Colson (they could all give talks on the value of democracy and fair elections). How about Oliver North (on honoring one’s oath to protect the Constitution!) or, Jack Ryan, Bob Allen, Randall Tobias, David Vitter or Jim McGreevy (family values!). Alberto Gonzalez (civil liberties, due process) - oops, probably wouldn’t recall his speech. How about going straight to the top? Dick Cheney, George W. Bush (small government, fiscal responsibility). There are so many to choose from!
I think you got my point- now didn’t you LJ.
Political Mom-
yeah, and it was bogus. While there are always people who fall through the cracks, there always will be. ANd I personally know of nobody that has been refused medical care, including doctors visits, because of their inability to pay. If you know of Doctors that do so, let’s start a list. I will put it on a website, for everyone to check, before choosing a doctor. Now, I suppose there are some specialty items, like transplants or something that require up front payments, primarily to the Hospitals> ANd I suppose you can always find a few assholes who will not treat because they have no means to pay, but let’s publicize them. Let’s get the word out! If you can prove it (for liability reasons) We’ll put it on a website!
I’ve got clinic for your list. My own.
Call your own doctor’s office, tell them you’re a new patient and want to know if you can be seen without insurance. See what they say.

I know what they say
“we will worry about payment later, how can we help you?”
Same as the clinic my sister is the business manager for
Call anyway, just to make sure. I’ll really be surprised.
Guess Wichita isn’t the only place Mr. Rumsfeld isn’t popular! Poor baby.
“The appointment of Donald H. Rumsfeld, the former defense secretary, as a distinguished visiting fellow at the Hoover Institution is drawing fierce protests from faculty members and students at Stanford University and is threatening to rekindle tensions between the institution, a conservative research body, and the more liberal campus.
Some 2,100 professors, staff members, students and alumni have signed an online petition protesting Mr. Rumsfeld’s appointment…”

YOU are totally full of crap.
there is no doctor’s office in the united states who will tell you to “come on in and we will worry about your payment some other day.”
i get so gd tired of you right wingers whose answer to every problem is to lie about it.
“ANd I personally know of nobody that has been refused medical care, including doctors visits, because of their inability to pay.”
HAHAHALOLthis is a jokeright?
“While there are always people who fall through the cracks, there always will be.”
yeah, what’s a few million dead people who “fell through the cracks.”
everybody gets free u.s. paid for health care in IRAQ.

ok, maybe i was a little harsh before.
they may say, “we will worry about payment later, how can we help you?”
BUT, they damn sure will NOT schedule an appointment and let the doctor see you.
Little John, you seem to have some problems…Tony Snow is a great guy. If you don’t like him, don’t go see him!
I think LJ knows this, and is why he didn’t take the doctor challenge.
And that’s just to be seen. Imagine if you need a test or something.
“littlejohnson” lies to compensate for his, uhm, shortcomings.
LTP has an obsession with littlejohn’s body parts.
