Raise your right hand, God, and repeat after me. . .

It’s been a busy week for God-related lawsuits. A Fort Riley soldier is suing the Defense Department claiming that a military officer threatened to file military charges against him and block his re-enlistment if the soldier held a meeting for atheists and non-Christians.
Meanwhile, a Nebraska state senator is suing God for causing "widespread death, destruction and terrorization of millions upon millions of the Earth’s inhabitants." In this case, the lawsuit isn’t serious but is in protest of what he considers to be frivolous lawsuits.

I’ve heard from quite a few soldiers who are often discriminated against because they are Atheists in the military. If you don’t go to the Sunday services you are treated poorly. If you are having some mental issues it’s acceptable to go to the chaplain but if you go to a therapist then it looks negatively on your record. The Pentagon just got in a lot of trouble because it was exposed that the Christian Taliban is well integrated into the Pentagon and generals admitted their religion comes before their job.

I wonder what the settlement would be if you won after suing God? :)

How does one serve a notice to appear? And how does one enforce same?

The real issue here is that those with power will always try to control those without. The U.S. was born out of a desire to be free from the powerful, who would prefer to dictate to us our (religious) freedoms. This is a necessary shake-up to be sure, but I fear the soldiers who are Christians will have this turned on them, which would be an equally unfortunate outcome. Hold those in power responsible while enabling the individual’s right to (religious)freedom.

Unless regs have changed, Dr/patient privilege does not apply in military. In fact it can be used in court against you.

That’s downright wrong Knut. Thanks for sharing that, I wasn’t aware.

It’s no wonder the people who really need the help won’t seek it. That needs to be changed RIGHT NOW.

As far as the Fort Riley soldier, I hope whoever stopped the meeting gets demoted….and quickly.

GMC, VT - years ago I came up with an ultimate class-action suit about asbestos. You see, asbestos is a natural mineral and so I figured sue the manufacturer.

I wouldnt get too worried about ol’ Ernie Chambers in Nebraska… He’s just looking for a few headlines… and he is fighting against frivolous lawsuits… He’s harmless…

However, Chambers MIGHT just have a good point about the frivolous lawsuits thing…. Seems like there are an awful lot of them in recent years…

    Yea Chas -

My favorite is a New Jersey college student who sued when he fell out of the top bunk. He sued the bunk bed maker because there was not a warning that he could fall and be hurt.

It got the NJ appellate court before a judge FINALLY came to the conclusion that one should not have to be warned of the dangers of gravity and threw it out.

Perhaps he sued the wrong party; it appears he should have sued God for creating gravity in the first place . . . . .

“As for Medicare, Medicaid and SS they are also Republic failures.”

I’m not sure what’s “failing” about these programs, Ben..they’re still running pretty smooth as far as I can see. Is there something I don’t know? I can’t imagine if my elderly and poor patients didn’t have access to these programs..I’d guess they’d just have to die. Would people like you care? When you turn 65, do you plan not to use Medicare? If not, how will YOU pay for your health care? Good luck trying to get private insurance at that age! Maybe you’ll luck out and retire a millionaire…then you can say “screw them all”!You know, we’d have the funds for these programs and more if we weren’t throwing it all away on war and propping up other governments.

when we stand before god, and we all will, we have to give an explanation of what we did with out lives, that jesus died for. what will this idiot say to god about this stupidity and does he think god will find it funny.

For one thing, no one “knows” that we will all stand before God, that’s is purely a Christian belief. If by some chance we do get judged at the end of our lives(which I doubt), I’m sure God would laugh..He must have a great sense of humor, afterall he created us, the closest relative to the chimpanzee, right?
