Oprah should help 2008 turnout

Obviously, Barack Obama would have been a fool to turn down Oprah Winfrey’s endorsement of his presidential campaign, for which she raised $3 million or so at a weekend event. But will her ability to attract 7 million mostly women viewers to her talk show, and her power to turn books and products into best-sellers, translate into votes? It can’t be good news for Hillary Clinton, whose historic candidacy should be a magnet for women voters. “What an endorsement like this does is to get people who might not have paid attention to him to take notice. Oprah is seen as a credible source by a lot of people,” said political science professor Arthur Sanders of Drake University in Des Moines. At the very least, it should get more women to vote next year.

I’m just wondering when the fairness doctrine crowd will step up and demand that republican candidates get equal time?

That is probably the saddest idea I’ve ever heard. This is a woman who thinks that the novel “Beloved” is high literature (I guess having sex with cows must be in these days).

Just what makes Oprah an expert in politics, her degree in Political Science, career in government, or her membership in Mensa? While she may be a lovely woman, she is no more important than anyone else. Her opinion is no more valid than anyone else’s. Her views are no more salient than Tom Sellack or any other actor. Once she runs for office and becomes president, I’ll pay attention to what she says, until then, frankly I’m less than not interested.

Just keep whistling past the graveyard sean. Seems like lots of people disagree with you, and whining about Oprah doesnt change the fact that millions take her every word as gospel.

    Kinda like rush….

I’m so giddy! We have finally turned our political system over to popular culture. We can now elect our president based on meaningless crap. Maybe we should just let Oprah pick our president for us.

Or perhaps we should let Bill O’Reilly pick our president for us?

He has about as many credentials as Oprah…

Hey, didnt I hear the Mel Gibson supports this preznit?

Now THERE is some real credibility!

Obama has sold-out to AIPAC which is the problem we’re have with congress now, as AIPAC has hijacked our foreign policy.

We need somebody who can think independently of AIPAC and not take orders.

Hillary has also sold-out to AIPAC.

While I respect her work as a professional, and admire what she has done in South Africa, my idea of torture would be to be tied to chair and forced to watch Oprah and anything on Lifetime.

If she has him on her show after he is selected to the be Dem candidate, I would expect her to also have the Repub candidate on her show

Good point ksgrm. However, I think they will draw a distinction from ’supporters’ having the airwaves (e.g. Oprah, O’Reilly, Rush etc) and the candidates themselves (e.g. Thompson)

Baby-hating Obama is a farther left extremist than Hog Futures Hillary. He voted in favor of live birth abortions, and against the Illinois born-alive infants protection act, when he was in the Illinois Senate.Oprah will endorse anyone whose skin is dark enough, however.
