Just when we thought America had safely put O.J. Simpson behind us, here comes the Juice again, under arrest for an allegedly armed confrontation in Las Vegas with men he accuses of trying to sell his sports memorabilia. This latest made-for-cable 24/7 feeding frenzy comes complete with an audiotape of O.J. that we’re doomed to hear repeated ad nauseam for the next month.
Forget other important news about the war, health care, etc.
This is your media on crack.

“Forget other important news about the war, health care, etc. This is your media on crack.”
Thanks, Randy. I think the story was surreal enough to be reported initially. But we ALL known what comes next!
Let the circus begin!
OJ is back, the media takes a break from almost doing their jobs so they can cover tabloid celebrity news. Moving on….
Hey may they can arrarge a two fur one special! Paris and O.J. sharing acell together… they could call it the “Gee I wish I had a damn life so I would not watch this crap show!”.
The Onion nailed the essential CHEESE of our 24-hour infotainment:

Let’s play lawyer (even those who actually are!)—–Las Vegas prosecutors put a big squeeze on O.J. Simpson last night, hitting him and three pals with 10 felony counts in a hotel room stickup – including surprise charges of assault and kidnapping.
Simpson will be arraigned this morning for the strong-arm heist in which he and his cronies are accused of terrorizing sports memorabilia dealers Alfred Beardsley and Bruce Fromong.
Adding to the Juice’s troubles, Fromong suffered a heart attack late Monday. He was in critical condition last night at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles and his wife, Lynnette, blames Simpson.
“You don’t point a gun at my husband’s head and have me fearful all night and then have me go, ‘Oh, well, it was just something that went wrong,’” she told CBS News.
>Proving a gun pointed at her husband during the trial. Who pointed it. No one said it was O.J. Is it weird guys charged with threatening and pointing the gun(s)get bail?
The court papers charging Simpson describe him preventing Fromong from dialing 911 on his cell phone “by ripping it out of [his] hand” while one or more accomplices pointed or displayed a handgun.
>OJ on recorded tape is yelling don’t let them leave the room. That is kidnapping? How about charging intimidation? Were hands placed on the victims holding them for leaving?
>Assault is yelling profanities I guess in someone’s face? Battery is lesser charge?
The door burst open and they came in almost commando-style, O.J. Simpson and some of his people, I guess you would call it, with guns drawn,” Fromong told ABC News just before his heart attack.
>Does hallway video show the group barging into the room? Bum rush style. Did someone from inside open the door and get pushed violently back?
>Somebody in OJ’s group is yelling “Police”
>Did conversation among OJ and his friends in the hallway plan this event before they entered? OJ is barking orders but did he know others had guns and would pretend to be Police? What’s the tape show in the hallway.
“It was a big, scary posse,” said Tom Riccio, the ex-con wheeler-dealer who went with Simpson and secretly recorded the confrontation. “If I’d have seen these guys on ‘The Sopranos,’ they’d fit right in.”
>What a prosecution witness he will be. Is taping without someone’s knowledge legal?
>He sold the recording already to media and police were on that tape as well. Taping the police is legal without their knowledge?
>The tape can’t be edited in parts, its acceptable all by the prosecution or gets thrown out.
The recording made by Riccio and was sold to TMZ.com
The court papers allege Simpson, 60, along with Walter Alexander, 46; Clarence Stewart, 53, and Michael McClinton, 49, were involved.
Police released a surveillance footage of two suspects captured carting boxes of what Simpson claimed was his memorabilia through the lobby of the Palace Station Hotel and Casino last Thursday.
>Who are they still not captured?
Each was charged with 10 felonies: kidnapping conspiracy,
>Charge can be reduced. Won’t jury have to be told someone was held by hands and threats without leaving physically. OJ screaming don’t let them leave isn’t kidnapping.
robbery conspiracy,
>How did the Collectors get his property if it wasn’t robbed from his home in Brentwood years ago.
burglary with a deadly weapon,
>Can seperate trials be held since OJ didn’t know others had guns or knew their intentions to pull them out.
two counts of kidnapping with a deadly weapon,
>Both victims have to claim someone stopped them from leaving the room. A lot of bodies in the room and no one grabbing them, doesn’t allow them to leave quickly since there is only one exit.
two counts of robbery with a deadly weapon,
>Again, did OJ know others intended to use guns.
two counts of assault with a deadly weapon and coercion with a deadly weapon.
Aren’t some of these charges repetitive? Coercion charge is valid. Assault or intimidation?
Is yelling profanties assaulting someone? Felony crime?
Wasn’t KU coach Mark Mangino yelling profanities at one his players on the sideline caught on tape. Prosecutors could charge him with assault?
There was also an 11th count: misdemeanor conspiracy to commit a crime.
>Where did the pre-planning occur? OJ told them he’s going to retrieve his stolen stuff. Repetitive charge.
The fallen football legend will ask to be freed on his own recognizance this morning, said Simpson’s lawyer Yale Galanter.
“If it was anyone other than O.J. Simpson, he would have been released by now,” Galanter said.
Galanter will partner with local Vegas lawyer Scott Holper, who will argue Simpson is not a flight risk, as a judge has ruled.
“Anywhere he goes, people know him,” Holper said.
>He is recognizable. Probably won’t be allowed to leave Vegas for awhile.
>OJ is clearly guilty of some things but charges can be reduced.
>If the heart attack victim sues OJ for personal suffering, he has to get behind Goldman family’s lawyer and following those attempts to get money from OJ.
>Are the victims fraud collectors. They can rob someone’s property and claim to be victimized someone robbing them of the stolen stuff.
>OJ could do 5 years in jail but not life for what happened. No one bled or was physically attacked. Not physically forced to stay in the room. Too many bodies in the room for collectors to walk out is not kidnapping.
Actually that tape should help OJ. The audio makes it pretty clear that this is more of a misunderstanding than an outright robbery and that they are probably overcharging the case. My guess is that it will be reduced to misdomeanors and OJ will pay a hefty fine and walk.
Flash: Since OJ and Britney are sharing the news today, it is necessary to change the schedule for today’s events.
Therefore, due to the importance of OJ and Britney, the following former news topics will be placed on hold:
The war in IraqUS EconomyDiscriminationHealth CareEverything else
With luck these items will return to the news front in a week or two or never.
Thanks Hud but you did forget to prioritize the tasered kid in Florida. He is ranking right up there with Brit and OJ.
Maybe O.J’s wife’s killer will finally go to prison.
we can only hope.
We’re still intrigued by the likes of OJ, Brittany, Lindsy, Tyson and the like. How rediculous. They’re losers; get over it.
1) Generally, yes, Mrage, taping without the permission or even knowledge of the other party is legal, as long as the taper is a party to the conversation. Certainly it is in Kansas, you’ll have to check Nevada law for Nevada, of course.
2) While we all bash the news channels, and yes, there has to be something to fill 24 hours a day and generate advertising revenue (remember, THAT is why CNN, CNBC, BOX, NYTimes, etc. etc. exist; to generate a profit), WE are ultimately in control of what is aired.
Don’t like all OJ/Brittany/Paris? TURN IT OFF. If enough quit watching this crap, they will quit airing it.

The people intrigued by the names you listed are bigger losers than the people you listed, which would include most Americans by a wide majority.
>OJ could do 5 years in jail but not life for what happened. No one bled or was physically attacked. Not physically forced to stay in the room. Too many bodies in the room for collectors to walk out is not kidnapping.

Heart attack is equal to bleeding in my book. Not physically forced to stay in the room? What about the gun or guns? The person recording it wasnt doing it for the police, they were doing to sell to the highest bidder. The Enquirer would have been a better payer.
Galanter will partner with local Vegas lawyer Scott Holper, who will argue Simpson is not a flight risk, as a judge has ruled.
“Anywhere he goes, people know him,” Holper said.

There are plenty of stars and other recognizable people that fled. We know where they are, but the countries wont extradite them back here.
>Again, did OJ know others intended to use guns.

The law used to cover this issue. I am not familiar with current Vegas/Nevada law. Under the old legal system, if one person did something in a criminal act, all were guilty even if they did not know the persno was going to do it.
I dont care about these losers, other than hoping they get the jail time they deserve. I dont watch the news or papers about any of these stars. Their pathetic lives dont impact my life unless one of them gets drunk and kills or injures me or my family. People are caught up in their lives for two reasons. Envy or satisfaction. Envy because the stars have money, fame, power, etc. Satisfaction because the stars have so many flaws and disasters so the others are glad to see them fail or fall. Taoism said it best, Treat your neighbor’s gain as your gain and your neighbor’s loss as your loss. I dont relish OJ going to jail because he is a star. I think he deserves jail because he is guilty. I dont enjoy when any of the rich or famous suffer tragedy unlike most Americans.
AMERICA get a life and stop envying and getting pleasure of these celebs!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Let’s not get too overeager here. O.J. needs to be tried for this incident, whatever it may turn out to be. Don’t go looking for revenge for his getting acquitted earlier.
Karma must be working in Simpson’s case.
It will be interesting to see how Simpson and his lawyers try to manipulate the Nevada courtroom.
I’m sure Simpson is cussing to think Johnie Cochran died and is no longer here to preside over his next circus.
yaaawwn. Who cares. My grass needs watching.
Randy says this is the media on crack, we are outraged that the media reports this crap when more important events are happening worldwide, and yet there is a blog for it, and WE ARE POSTING.
OJ was in Vegas looking for the real killers and maybe he found them in that hotel room.
Did anyone else find it ironic that Marcia Clark was covering the bond hearing as a reporter for “Entertainment Tonight”?
