Iraqi citizens want U.S. troops to leave Iraq, but they are afraid of what may happen if we go — so they’ve reluctantly decided that we need to stay, the New York Times reported after interviewing more than 20 Iraqis of different sects and ethnicities from across the country. Even Sunnis who blame America for Iraq’s problems concede that they depend on U.S. troops. “We are a minority and we do not have a force to face the militias,” one Sunni from Diyala province told the Times. “If the Americans leave, it will mean a total elimination of the Sunnis in Iraq.” How long do these Iraqis think we’ll need to stay? A minimum of three more years and possibly at least five more.

Wow, a poll of 20 Iraqis…
If only we had a poll of a larger cross section…oh wait…I think we do.
By the way, I really do wish they’d do a larger poll, because if the Iraqis have changed their minds and want us to stay, then we should stay. That’d be a GOOD sign that they’re finally willing to start doing some work on their own.
The Saudis will take over as the protectorate of the Sunnis in Iraq if we leave while forcing an equitable settlement for the Palestinians.
That bargaining chip alone will cement a peaceful settlement throughout the Middle East.
We Americans have no sense about the injustice and misery the ruling-class of Israel has brought to that part of the world, as under reporting and no reporting has distorted the facts right down to the euphemism of nonexistent “terrorism.”
The ruling-class of Israel is as dishonest as it is possible to be, just read the statements of AIPAC and watch the twisting of the truth.
The debacle in Iraq is always presented as have no solution, never in attempting to find one.
The thorn in the side of the Middle East needs only to be removed.
Implement the resolutions of the UN, follow International Law, and abide by the rules of the Geneva Conventions, enforced with the full power of the United States.
And note what happens.
Ok…that’s it! Let’s go home and stop the killing of young Americans for no reason.
PM
We shouldn’t let Iraqi’s dictate our presence —- In 3 years they haven’t stepped up to the plate —- and seem reluctant to do so ….. unfortunately it looks like Howdy Doody and Buffalo Bob at the White House are going to leave the mess to the next president. Can’t wait to read the GWB book when he’s gone “How to Succeed in Government, without having a clue”.

Too little, too late. They should have stepped up to the plate long ago. They have had their chance and they threw it away. Time to quit spending our money and lives to support people who will not step up and protect themselves.
How ’bout, “How to Fail in Government and the 28percenters still don’t have a clue”?
Or, “Just do it! What’s Accountability”?
“How to Distract with Bright and Shiny Objects While Raping a Country”
Having lost all credibility himself, the Parasite President now leeches on to Generals.
Kneepads for the president!
At least Clinton was on the receiving end of the BJ.
Shall we now call Bush “The Giver”?
According to Patreus there are now 445,000 Iraqi security forces. Why can’t they take care of the dead-enders?
Of course, what Patreus DIDN’T say is that these guys are a big part of the problem and our military is now needed to protect Iraqis from their own military.
GWB is using the military and some predict their stay there at 15 – 20 years — because Howdy Doody and his gang of minstrals have nothing that resembles a foreign policy — other than give China anything it wants …
We are the Iraqi government and that crap about them { the actual Iraqis } wanting us to stay is a lie.
Funny how “staying” matches what Bushco wants us to do.
I’m not buying any of that garbage, because it isn’t true.
Let Bush veto a spending Bill and watch those Rebublicans cave-in.
Override the Veto or do without.
We elected the Demcrats to NOT backdown.
I agree, that they have to start working on their own. What happened with the problem about Maliki having basically no support? Seems the government took their vacation, and left us to clean up. I’m still saying lets get out, but at the same time, if things are truly changing and they DO want us there, we should give it a chance.
Do I believe a poll of 20? Nope.
If that phony poll had shown that they wanted us to leave, do you think for one minute that lying boso Bushco would allow that result to be aired in the United States?
Can Bushco be trusted?
Iraqi lawmakers were not impressed, saying Washington should take responsibility for the turmoil in Iraq.
“The Americans always try to pretend the responsibility for cleaning up this mess isn’t theirs and tend to shift blame onto Iraq, Iran and Syria for everything that goes wrong,” said veteran Kurdish lawmaker Mahmoud Othman.
“But they should stop this nonsense and admit that most of the accountability rests on their shoulders,” he told Reuters.

In a survey conducted Aug. 17-24 for ABC News, the BBC and NHK, the Japanese broadcaster, among a random national sample of 2,212 Iraqis, 72 percent in Anbar expressed no confidence whatsoever in United States forces. Seventy-six percent said the United States should withdraw now — up from 49 percent when we polled there in March, and far above the national average.
Withdrawal timetable aside, every Anbar respondent in our survey opposed the presence of American forces in Iraq — 69 percent “strongly” so. Every Anbar respondent called attacks on coalition forces “acceptable,” far more than anywhere else in the country. All called the United States-led invasion wrong, including 68 percent who called it “absolutely wrong.”
