Iraqi migration reshaping country

Iraqis are facing a surge of internal migration and homelessness that is reshaping the country, with thousands of families uprooted in recent months, living in shantytowns and makeshift shelters, according to data compiled by the Iraqi Red Crescent Organization.
"In Baghdad alone there are now nearly 170,000 families, accounting for almost a million people, that have fled their homes in search of security, shelter, water, electricity, functioning schools or jobs to support their families," the New York Times reported.
Red Crescent officials say they have a "mammoth task" in trying to aid the burgeoning population of refugees — estimated at 2 million inside Iraq; another 2.2 million have fled to neighboring Syria and Jordan.
Meanwhile, Iraq Ambassador Ryan Crocker recently expressed frustration with the slow pace of efforts to resettle 10,000 Iraqis in the United States, complaining of "major bottlenecks" and insufficient staffing that mean it could take up to two years to complete interviews with the applicants.
The Bush administration has repeatedly raised the specter of a humanitarian crisis in Iraq if U.S. forces pull out, but it seems unwilling or unable to deal effectively with the refugee crisis that exists right now.

Indeed. Fun to watch the Administration’s feeble attempts at Iraqi refugee resettlement come up against the firewall of Wingnut anti-Islamic racism.

That’s what Bush gets for using the “Islamic menace” to drive the Fundos to the polls.

Let the Iraqis stay and make their country better or dies trying. We need to stop accepting refugees and asylum seekers from these third world crapholes, period. Refugees and legal immigration is just as problematic as illegal immigration.

We are responsible for their displacement. Why should the responsible fall to all the other countries in the world. We should take in our share until they are able to return home.

Muslims and the treasonous, leftist multiculturalists will be very unwelcome after the next terorist attack, so they should stay in the mideast. Let their raghead bretheren look after them.

Once these “people” come to the West it seems that they never leave!

—————————–Are you saying that American muslims like Muhammad Ali will be unwelcome?

“raghead bretheren”– I’m glad you are the minority in this country.

The Zioists bring mericy whereever they travel.

The Zionist and the Bush Cabal are the enemy.

There is no such thing as “terrorism” as describes by that Cabal.

89% of Americans now know that they’re being “Had.”

All this is the product of deliberate “Unreported bombings” from US Carriers.

Which does not include over 1 million dead Iraqis that the Bushco Cabal should all be made to stand trial, for all their war-crimes.

We could send them over 5 million illegal south of the border aliens.

    I like tejano music.

Meanwhile, since bush has given the gift of freedon to the iraq victims, I mean citizens, millions of them have exercised the freedom to flee before they are murdered in the night by AQ, US, Iran, Syria, British, or any of the other 35 countries bush claims are in Iraq working with us.

How shortsighted of those Iraq people who choose staying alive over being free and room temparture.

So, U.S. snipers “bait” civilians in Iraq by leaving items out where they will be “found” by all ages. When the child or adult finds it and picks it up the sniper kills them.

Of course just the enlisted people got busted, as the officers deny any knowledge of this action.

I’m sure the refugee camps are just full of love for the United States for ‘liberating them.’

    /Sarcasm off

Who cares if millions of Iraqis are homeless? There’s hundreds of billions of barrels of oil under there feet. Worth tens of trillions of dollars. Money means more than human life.

If there really is less violence in Iraq, it may be because ethic redistribution is complete.

Ethnic, though ethic may be true too. A pretty good unintentional pun, really.

I think John Murtha calls it “ethnic redeployment” heh.

But no matter, we will eventually have to kill all the Muslims in the US anyway. But most people would rather they do it over there as much as possible. So keep that concealed carry up to date. I try to keep about 5000 rounds handy at any one time.

The United States is NOT an Islamic nation. If the Muslims can accept that and not wear their religion on their sleeves, they are welcome. Otherwise go elsewhere. We have enough problems with our own Christian Fundies trying to use the government to force their view of God on everybody. We don’t need Muslims here doing the same thing.

“”"We are responsible for their displacement. Why should the responsible fall to all the other countries in the world. We should take in our share until they are able to return home.”"”

The problem with that is that almost none of them ever go home. They stay here for life, get citizenship and then invite all their extended family over too. Europe is overrun with Muslims and we need not be.

Furthermore I am not anti Muslim. The problem with Muslims is that many- if not most of them- are anti anybody who is not a Muslim. Like I said, if they want to come here and leave their religion in their Mosque and homes and get along with other Americans including women, Christians and homosexuals, they are welcome to come.

Kev – the many Muslims I know and work with are not at all like you describe. No issues with the fact that I eat pork or that many of us drink alcohol. They just don’t partake of those.

In fact, I have had much more experience with a different sect of Abrahamism trying to convert me to their faith – fundamentalist Christians.

I think Iraqis who come here will find the experience surreal enough as it is. And After fleeing religious persecution (among other things), they will still find themselves in the minority, and facing numerous yahoos who will regard them with instant suspicion.

Somehow, I don’t think we’ll see much in the way of fundamentalist activism.

The real question is whether the US will even let them in. Immigration issues aside, they’re not likely have a favorable opinion of the war that made them homeless!
