Even in retirement, Rumsfeld still spinning

In the October issue of GQ magazine, former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld declares Afghanistan a "big success" because "28 million people are free. They have their own president, they have their own parliament. Improved a lot on the streets" — never mind the record number of Taliban suicide bombings this year, more than 100 as of August. Meanwhile, Rumsfeld said a democratic and free Iraq will take "some time and some effort." But he doesn’t seem to recognize any failing in his leadership. "It requires diplomacy, it requires economic assistance, it requires a range of things that are well beyond the purview of the Department of Defense," he said. He also finds fault with the public perception of President Bush. He "is a lot more intelligent and curious than people give him credit for."

Funny, Bush never shows us that he is intelligent.

A far more plausible reason is that he isn’t intelligent.

Given the continued violence and warfare it’s about time Rummy appears before a big “mission accomplished” banner to signify the neo-cons denial of reality. Perhaps if they weren’t so eager to divert resources into Iraq and actually finish the job in Afghanistan there wouldn’t be these problems remaining.

Let the Jews fight their own battles. If we’d stop fighting their battles for them, they’d have to make the necessary concessions for peace.

Gasoline would go back to a “buck a gallon” { which would save middle class jobs } and we could start spending our money on things which America needs.

Rumsfeld: [Bush] “is a lot more intelligent and curious than people give him credit for.”

In Australia,’Bush: OPEC or APEC’http://www.elpasotimes.com/nationworld/ci_6826287“The president’s next goof went uncorrected — by him anyway. Talking about Howard’s visit to Iraq last year to thank his country’s soldiers serving there, Bush called them “Austrian troops.”

That one was fixed for him. Though tapes of the speech clearly show Bush saying “Austrian,” the official text released by the White House switched it to “Australian.”

Then, speech done, Bush confidently headed out — the wrong way.

He strode away from the lectern on a path that would have sent him over a steep drop. Howard and others redirected the president to center stage, where there were steps leading down to the floor of the theater.

The event had inauspicious beginnings. Bush started 10 minutes late, so that APEC workers could hustle people out of the theater’s balcony seating to fill the many empty portions of the main orchestra section below — which is most visible on camera.
Even resettled, the audience remained quiet throughout the president’s remarks, applauding only when he was finished.”

Don’t be too hard on Rummy-he’s trying to pull a nixon! If everything is just peachy in Iraq, there’s no reason to stay, we declare victory and come home. That’s pretty much how we got out of Vietnam, and it may be the only way we ever get out of Iraq!

If there is an Al-Quida Iraq, does that mean there is an Al-Quida Afghanistan, Al-Quida Pakistan, Taliban Afghanistan, Taliban Pakistan, Al-Quida Saudi Arabia, where as the good general said “most of the foreigners come from Saudi Arabia”, the good news being that the last suicide bomber from Saudi A. had to take a circumventious route and ride the bus!

Bush will be lucky if he gets to leave Washington with a drop of dignity left.

And what did George W. Bush promised when elected??? He promised to restore honesty and integrity to the White House. Ha, what a laugh!
