Sen. Larry Craig, R-Idaho, has few Republicans in his corner, but at least, like it or not, he has the American Civil Liberties Union. The group has filed a brief in support of Craig’s efforts to withdraw his guilty plea related to a gay-sex sting in a Minneapolis airport men’s room, viewing the charge of disorderly conduct as violating Craig’s free speech rights. The ACLU argues, in part: "Since the law the state has applied to this defendant makes it a crime to use offensive language, and since the use of offensive language alone cannot be made a crime, the law is unconstitutionally overbroad on its face."
Meanwhile, the airport restroom in question has become a hot tourist attraction. And wouldn’t you know: Minneapolis-St. Paul happens to be the site of the 2008 Republican National Convention.

I had read that yesterday. As much as the right hates to admit it the ACLU defends EVERYONE’s freedoms; including Craig abd Limbaugh.
I think if Craig started using the Women’s bathroom, he wouldn’t have near the problems he does now!
LOL, Ben, my guess is that when the right sees the ACLU defending Craig, then the right sees the ACLU defending a fag RINO. Which would mean of course that they can go on demonizing the ACLU. And fags.
In fact, for some on the right just the fact that Craig is associated with the Leftist! ACLU in any way should cost him his party membership.
I think it takes far more than a display of principle to dislodge “the right” from their opinion that the ACLU is partisan left.
Either that or some in the ACLU are preserving the right to use foot “tap” code for their own kind.
Was probably talk of “That could have been me!” around the offices of the ACLU.
Looks like to me from reading the linked piece, the ACLU is going after the ordinance in question on traditional grounds of overbreadth.
With all the Republican congressmen that’s going to be there, they better build a bigger mens room, and put in a revolving door!
Poor Craig, got caught trying to practice sex in the oval office; must had had higher aspirations.

Perhaps they could hold all the candidate debates there. Toilet paper is already provided.
The real surprise is that the Republicans are having their convention in St. Paul.
I thought they would build a shrine to 9-11 and have their convention on top of the dead bodies every four years.
That could have been me!
Have two sets of rules…one for other people (society), and one for themselves. If someone else does a bad thing, they should be hung out to dry….but if THEY do a bad thing…when those fingers they’ve been pointing end up pointing in their own direction, they want understanding.
Liberals understand human nature a little better, and write policies according.
I have determined this from working with a bunch of conservatives….it’s fun to listen to how they talk about what others do…and to know them personally is a bonus, because you see just how screwed up they really are.

Wow, that is the funniest thing I have read in a long time!!!!!!
JOIN THE GOSTIC LIBERATION FRONT TODAY!!
Heb, insightful comment, pmom, particularly when you see Kansas’ post just above it!
Translation: If it coudln’t been me, then why would I care? If you’re not having sex in public restrooms, you wouldn’t defend the man!
Which makes Craig a REAL problem for them!
The Gnostics committed heresy by believing that could become gods.
Pretty well sums up Kansas Gnostic and his love affair with all things CONservative . . .
That generic “Kansas” comment wasn’t me, it was not a TypePad entry.
Oh, okay. I withdraw the comment.
Wait. . No I don’t:
“Was probably talk of That could have been me!’ around the offices of the ACLU.”
couresy of typekad ‘Kansas’
What he dod does not bother me. I personally don’t give a shot about 2 queers hooking up in the men’s room. And I don’t care that he is queer or a bi. I ain’t got no problems with them and to each his own. Live and let live. So his “crime” does not bother me. What bothers me is the fact that he’s a CLOSET queer who has build quite a nice career for himself by bashing other queers. And this seems to be a pattern in the Republican party. He is just the latest to be caught. Pretty soon the Log Cabin people are going to have a big membership drive I hear!
Reich-wing Republican bigots will trash the ACLU, until they need them to defend their freedoms. Even someone as conservative as Bob Barr turned to the ACLU for support when the fascists overran our government.
Craig got caught with his pants down (literally) and now he is trying to squirm out of it.
I agree with Kev that I do not care if Craig is homosexual, bisexual and even asexual. Craig’s personal life is none of my or anyone else’s business.
But Craig is a public servant and should be held to a higher standard.
What really bothered me was when he was caught, Craig reportedly showed the police his Senate card and asked them what they thought about that. That was pure arrogance talking and nobody is above the law (or should be).
I am not sure why what Sen. Craig did is a crime, or why police are arresting people on such slim evidence. His big mistake was to plead guilty in hopes nobody would ever find out. He must have received some terrible legal advice on that one.
