Sen. Sam Brownback, R-Kan., acted on behalf of all frustrated Americans Wednesday in pressing Mattel chairman and CEO Robert Eckert (in photo) and Consumer Product Safety Commission interim chairwoman Nancy Nord for answers about unsafe Chinese-made toys and other products. “’Made in China’ has become a warning label,” Brownback said at the Senate hearing, observing that since December, 177 Chinese-made consumer products have been recalled in the United States.
“The country is fed up with it,” he told the chairman of Mattel, which makes 65 percent of its kids’ products in China.
Brownback suggested banning some Chinese-made products, noting that it invites problems to manufacture goods in a nation as closed and authoritarian as China.

The Republicans have been in bed with the Communist Chinese for a decade. And only now does he gripe? I am sure Bush has already called Brownback and told him to “pipe the anti China stuff down”.
How about Brownback coming back home and representing our State.
How about brownieback coming home and NOT representing our state?
Mattel should start making toys in the US again…perhaps they should lose their entire US market since they don’t want to hire Americans.
Kev obviously you have not kept up with current news or past history. Do the names, Chung, Trie, Hsu, – need I go on, mean anything to you?
It’s about damn time. This needs to be BLASTED across the MSN to get the idiot sheeple to understand Made In China is a very bad thing. About the only words the idiot sheeple understand.
It also might have helped if Mattel hadn’t down-sized the department that tests the products that are made. Cut by about 2/3, if not more.
One day, corps will understand that by outsourcing and offering inferior products, even at a lower price, the shrunken middle class will not have the means to buy their products and services. I can’t wait to see them check their bottom line then.

Miss Teen South Carolina tries to explain herself. Almost as good as her competition answer.
Whoops, wrong thread. My bad.

The Democrats have been in bed with China as the Republicans.

I support this; the only problem is the significantly increased costs to produce them here. I try to buy American when possible, but I see the cheap quality is about the same as China. Years ago, made in America meant two things, higher quality and higher price. Made in Japan meant two things, cheaper prices and poorer quality.
This Christmas dont buy any mattel products or anything made in China. which is most stuff but maybe we can claim Christmas away from the commerical culture that controls it now

Whatever happened to creativity of children and making their own toys? I remember making a fort out of old cardboard boxes, a tent from a blanket over a rope tied between two trees, or creating a game of running, jumping, skipping, etc.
Nowadays children have to be entertained by something either singing, talking or dancing with them. And then we wonder why the average American has been ‘dumbed down’??
So, Sam…toys it is? Well, that will shock the voters into knowing who you are…NOT.
That dang hillary has been quiet on the subject, I tell ya. I gather that she don’t want to miss out on all that chinaman money she has been pullin’ in.
