Snow is also going

Tony Snow had said he would leave his job as White House press secretary before the end of President’s Bush term. He announced a date today: Sept. 14. Snow, who has been undergoing chemotherapy for a recurrence of colon cancer, has said he was leaving because he needed to make more money (he is paid $168,000 a year as press secretary).

Financial Planning for political appointies would be tough.COBRA for 18 months, after that??So he will be looking for EMPLOYMENT and not self-employment as a syndicated columnist, is my guess.Unless his wife’s insurance covers him?Anyway, he will be missed.

Now do I get the job of White House press secretary?

Given the circumstances I wish him well. Although he has been a partisan that is consistent with his job description.

I fear the relapse of colon cancer is a death sentence.

I have an 85 year old client that just went into remission from his second bought of colon cancer.

Yes, it is rare, but it happens.

Having just lost a good friend this week who was only 3 weeks ago diagnosed with cancer I see in Tony a very sick man. I wish him and his family well. I think he has been one of our better press sec. He difused anger with a little humor in most cases and was able to give good answers to some tough questions.

    God speed, Tony.

It is unfortunate that the colon cancer recurred, causing Mr. Snow’s decision to resign. While we all may be hopeful that it will go into remission, it is unlikely. That is also likely to prevent Mr. Snow resuming his prior career on Fox.

Please do not get me wrong, I made lite of the position of White House press secretary not of Tony Snow. I have always liked him even before the job change, he has really talent. He could tell some of the biggest whopper from behind that pudendum with a straight face. And damn near make it believable too! I could understand their selecting him for Press secretary. He shows grace in his job and battling his disease, I really wish him the best and for a total recovery. Then get an honest job!!!!

Just heard that VA Senator Warner is retiring. Bad news for the GOP; he was one of the few independant-minded Republicans there.

Yeah, Ben, saw that too about Senator Warner. Independent is a good description. I think he has served the country well, both in the Senate and as Secretary of the Navy.

P_Mom, given the cost of living in DC, and the fact Mr. Snow very likely took a pay cut in coming into the administration, $168,000 just isn’t all that great a salary. You or I would like to receive it, true, but we’re thinking in terms of Kansas and our present status.

Will $200k meet Mr. Snow’s speaking fee? I ask this in seriousness, as it has been reported he may take to the “rubber chicken circuit” after leaving his present job.

    Hey Ben,

Moving to Manhattan? The WSJ had an article a few years ago on living in NYC.

Assuming yo live in a 3000 square foot house now, and don’t mind reducing that by 75%, plan on giving up your car and don’t eat out too much you should be able to get by with only increasing your salary by a factor of three.

I have a 25 year old nephew who lived in a 2 room apartment in New York City. He could show me hazy pictures of the empire state building that he was able to take from his apartment window. His monthly rent? $3,000.

He was a graduate from the Wharton School of Business and worked as a wall street analyst.

Trust a republican to bring Clinton into it. Nathan, what does Clinton have to do with this subject?

Tony Snow has been one of the more interesting members of this administration. Too bad about his medical condition.

    I wish him well.

Or perhaps he should have moved where he could afford it.

I’m just trying to think of all the republican comebacks when they complain about a 5.50 per hour wage…that’s all.

  29. Posted August 31, 2007 at 5:39 pm | Permalink

I wish Tony well. I would hope he spends his likely remaining time living life rather than working for a living. That may be what he is planning on doing. Making the dough without pinned down to location or schedule.

Either that or he is upset that the evil Bush administration won’t pay him a living wage. Could be a closet lefty. . . .

Once upon a time, Tony Snow was a fledgling editorial writer in North Carolina. I can remember when he would sub for Rush on the radio – probably 10 years ago. I loved his commentary and common sense. Tony is a true conservative.

I’m sure he didn’t make much more than minimum wage when he began. But like most all successful people, Tony EARNED his way to the top.

PMom – EARN. Say it with me. EARN.

    thx.

$168,000 in Washington DC- where homes start at about $700,000 and go up- is not all that much money. It is kind of like $80,000 in Wichita. Not small but not great either.

I can sit on here on my rear and talk about my views too, I’m not EARNING anything. Getting out there and doing actual work SHOULD earn more than what he does. He didn’t EARN shit.

Please. He subbed for Rush? Anyone associated with Rush should be ran off the top of a cliff.

According to Kansas, Tony Snow will not have to do without health insurance because if he does not have it, simple get on some federal or state healthcare program and problem solved. At least that was the argument he was giving a few weeks ago.

Now that we have a Republican fighting cancer, will all the Republicans now stop harassing John Edwards about using his wife’s cancer to get sympathy votes?

Cancer is a terrible disease. My brother just died from it this past week and I was diagnosed in April. So why not knock off the remarks about cancer – okay?
