“From an email earlier today:
“Thanks. We’ve deleted all the posts by “troll.” They appear to have been
made by one of our regular liberal posters. pb” ”
http://blogs.kansas.com/weblog/2007/08/obama-recast-as.html#comment-78613512
Kansas, was that an email from WE Blog opinion editor Mr. Phillip Brownlee?
Today, Tuesday, is fish or cut bait, one way or the other, on the gambling issue in Wichita.
What’s the decision going to be? Presumably we will know by 9 PM tonight unless it is particularly close.
Unfortunately, Wichita has no real political leadership. Real leadership would have stepped up and helped citizens find a solution that a strong majority could live with. Then legislators and local politicians could support the concensus by sponsoring a vote.
These momentous, very expensive and culturally changing projects such as gambling and the white elephant downtown arena must have a solution that would meet expectations of a strong majority of 80% or more of our citizens before voting.
But in the absence of a real out front Wichita leader who doesn’t immediately take sides on an issue but tries to develop a concensus … Wichita will continue to be a small city with image problems, an angry citizenry so to speak.
It doesn’t currently look good for the future of Wichita.
A relatively minor issue (comparatively speaking), but Internet radio is STILL in danger:
http://blog.wired.com/music/2007/08/the-internet-ra.html
Very interesting open thread yesterday. Curiously devoid of trollism. Wouldn’t it be great if that would continue.
Would be nice, XXX, but alas, I dont think we shall be so fortunate… check upthread under what cosmos posted… read the alleged quote from Brownlee…He doesnt sign off with his initials… and he wouldnt use the term “liberal posters” when it was the many named troll doing the nic stealing and sock puppeteering… Geesh…
Well JWink, if in your opinion, the future of Wichita doesn’t look good, you can always pack your bags.
You’re a Johnson County transplant right? You’re used to all white, rich and Republican community. You thought you could come into an urban city and project your views on what this community needs or wants, as a transplant. You constantly have nothing but negative to say about Wichita. You bag on Wichita’s history, you bag on the people who live here, you bag on the local leaders, and the worst part is that you lie constantly and speak so negative about Wichita. Yet you think you are a man of influence and importance in our community, when you are not.
It might have worked for you in all white Johnson County, where your thousands of dollars in donations to local Republican politicians might have bought you an ear and a seat on the GOBN, but I know your frustrated that it doesn’t work here for you.
Good luck! Sorry your cereal is always yellow.
Joe: I buy into the idea that when your opponent is talking and making a fool of himself, don’t stop him!
Psychologists say that when a person criticizes others, most of his comments actually apply to himself.
So you might look in a mirror.
MSM and the GOP telling you that Ron Paul has no chance? Well, should you believe them or your own lying eyes…

Chas,
Yes, that’s an actual email from Phillip Brownlee. If you doubt the authenticity, then email PB and ask him him about the deleted posts by the user named “troll.”
Better yet, I’ll post it on my Blog site as a screen shot so you can see for yourself.
http://republikan.typepad.com/republikansan/2007/08/email-from-phil.html
Of course, I know some of you Libs will probably claim I made it up, but you can always email Phillip Brownlee to confirm.
Anyway, the posts don’t exist anymore and that was my objective and Mr. Brownlee was nice enough to accommodate me on this what should be unnecessary task.
One of these days, there will appear the Agenda for the Republican National Convention… that should make things interesting…
It is a sign of devoid logical thinking when someone goes to all the trouble of making up a chronological order of pure fiction about the ‘other guys’.
Rather than holding his own guys’ feet to the fire, Hank chooses to enlighten us with his sense of humor.
I suppose your fake PB email is your way of trying to convince everybody that you arent responsible for those dreadful postings late saturday/early sunday morning… Wont work for me, Kansas… Too easy to write up phony emails… I’ve seen it done too many times… NOT real funny…. tsk tsk tsk
The aforementioned suspicious posts are still posted on the August 4 open thread… NOTHING has been changed…. Kansas YOU are a joke!!
Okay, who wants to e-mail “pb” and see if he really sent that message to RepubliKhansas?
Okay Chas, I’m a joke.Your statement indicates that you are having some vision issues this morning, I would suggest more coffee.
“The aforementioned suspicious posts are still posted on the August 4 open thread… NOTHING has been changed…. Kansas YOU are a joke!!” Posted by: Chas. | August 07, 2007 at 09:00 AM
The thread where the posts were deleted were in the thread topic -
“Kicking it up over health careAugust 06, 2007 in Health and safety | Permalink”
Note the date Chas, August 06, 2007 and not August 4 open thread.
But thank you Chas for you “unbiased” viewing of the situation (coughs.)
In your earlier post, Kansas, there is no date specified… How could we know it was from that particular thread??

Because Chas, if you will look at the screenshot and in particular the hyperlinks at the bottom of the email, it gives the name of the topic plus the date.
Sorry, I thought this was obvious.
Please examine the hyperlink below, it is the description of what you just posted at 9:17 AM

Another day of all republican all the time?
I think I’ll just walk on by…
Chas, why are you feeding this troll?
Did you left leaning bloggers see this one? You guys could all have jobs with healthcare!
Left-leaning bloggers debate forming labor union
CHICAGO, Illinois (AP) — Do bloggers need their own Norma Rae?
In a move that might make some people scratch their heads, a loosely formed coalition of left-leaning bloggers are trying to band together to form a labor union they hope will help them receive health insurance, conduct collective bargaining or even set professional standards.
The effort is an extension of the blogosphere’s growing power and presence, especially within the political realm, and for many, evokes memories of the early labor organization of freelance writers in the early 1980s.

…and ya know, I dont get the bot filter anymore, do you guys?
It was annoying but so is the constant porno and viagra spam being posted on old threads.
If the WE cant stop that kind of spam, I think we are going to be saddled with trolls for a very long time.
Looks like a novel idea Hotdog1.
They could call it “Leftist Blogger Association” and go for a non-profit status along with a block representation in order to get cheaper health insurance.
Since Tom has experience in starting up non-profits, perhaps he could get one such association started in Kansas. Who knows, it might actually work.
My Troll feed bag has run dry for today — It ran out of Troll food stamps… all of the new Troll feed bags were imported from China, so we wouldnt want to be accussed of feeding them tainted Troll snacks… So, I will just walk on by now…
BTW, Good Morning KFG!!!
KFG,
I would volunteer to do troll patrol for WE Blog as I have experience in TypePad Blogs.
I would have to quit posting though as it would be a conflict of interest in my opinion.
You might get the best of both worlds. :)
Does anybody see a fox in the hen house somewhere close???
I am outta here for now at 9:38 a.m.
Anyone wonder why ABC held the republican debate at 10am? Wouldn’t the republican BASE be in church at that time????
We can either have an “open thread” or we can have a “RepubliKhansas thread.”
I opt for the latter . . .
Oops, make that the FORMER . . .
Anyone wonder why ABC held the republican debate at 10am?
Posted by: SolDevVB | August 07, 2007 at 09:39 AM
Because nobody cares. Way too early in the election cycle, and they are mostly clowns. WHo cares.
Hey Farm Girl,
The bot filter has me buffaloed. At work I can’t use my real email address, it’s invalid. I have three different emails and none of them get past the bot filter at work.
I’m using bobsyouruncle@bs.com and that seems to suffice.
At home it won’t let me post unless I make up an URL. That’s why some people think I belong to the B’hai faith, I use theirs.
Hank
I’m sorry, I though this was an “open” blog. I didn’t realize I needed to be a card carrying democrat to post here.
Is there an ownership provision out there somewhere I didn’t see?
I don’t see any conservatives being upset and crying about liberals posting here.
Wonder why that is?
Hank, I’m sorry you had so much trouble with the bot filter. I know Rage and others did too. I havent had any problem other than it just being annoying and I have middle aged eyes.
I can recognize the spam when it appears under “recent comments” so I dont click there, but I just wonder what is up. They closed old threads for a while, the bot filter worked for a while, and they have made some feeble attempts to pull posts after they have been made.
It just makes me wonder if they are experimenting with the blog or if they have just given up on running a good blog and are giving it over to the trolls and spammers.
Here’s an idea that might work better than the national ID.
The federal gov’t sets up a thumb print database. They track your thumbprint and a unique ID or a GUID. That is ALL the information that they store.
Other entities can subscribe to the data. The Gov’t charges a per-transaction fee for use to cover the cost of maint.
After a background check an entity is able to subscribe to the service. The entity scans your fingerprint, receives your GUID. The entity relates that GUID to pertinent information about you. i.e. your credit card provider holds your billing address, account etc.
States, counties, cities could also subscribe. Instead of carrying a forgeable driver’s license, the cop can carry a tablet PC. From your thumb scan, your information is displayed.
You can forge a driver’s license and even a passport. Let’s see someone forge a thumbprint.
This way, the fed gov’ t stores exactly zero personal data on you.
…and hot dog goes into the “so you are trying to shut up the conservatives and deny their right to speak” meme.
::big eye roll::
Maybe the bot thing is trying to figure out how to trace multiple nics to one IP address… That might take a while…
Multiple nics to one IP is easy. Multiple IPS to multiple nics would be difficult, if they are even tracking anything.
I dont have any idea how one poster would use multiple IPS with multiple nics… I dont know that much IT stuff… :-)
I’m fairly certain the WEBlog editors know exactly who the troll is. If they really wanted to, they could put an immediate stop to the stalking, the harassment, and the threats of violence.
Yeah, I’m feeling a little cynical today.
I picked this up from an ag blog when I was checking wheat prices today. The irony of this is just TOO rich since David Pope has been over appropriating water rights in Kansas for the last 20 years.
And I thought he retired, not that he was taking another job. Perhaps he was encouraged to “spend more time with his family”?
Anyway, here it is:
” Bill Spiegel
August 6, 2007
The annual Kansas Water Congress met last week in Wichita, with keynote speaker David Pope, former chief engineer of the Division of Water Resources, bluntly describing the state of western Kansas water supplies.
“Some hard choices need to be made,” Pope said of restricting the amount of water available for irrigation in western Kansas, which uses as much as 95% of the available groundwater, much of it coming from the Ogallala Aquifer. The story was reported last week by the Associated Press…
Pope left his post earlier this year to become executive director of the Missouri River Association of States and Tribes… “
i agree Tom… it realy is getting old!!
Ironic given todays vote:
18 ticketed in Wichita gambling raidWonder which way these people might vote on the casino issue Tuesday?
Eighteen men and women ages 20 to 74 were accused of gambling at a southeast Wichita home. They were issued notices to appear in court and then were released.
Wichita police went to the home in the 3500 block of East Dunham after receiving a complaint about gambling there.
At the home, two plainclothes officers saw people gambling during a card game, police said, and seized several thousand dollars in cash.
http://www.kansas.com/news/updates/story/141312.html
I wondered about that arrest timing Ben. I wonder if that will hurt the nays or the yays. Or if it will even matter.
Western Kansas should find a crop more compatible with their natural environment, and requires less irrigation.
a crop more compatible with their natural environment, and requires less irrigation.
Posted by: The Phantom | August 07, 2007 at 10:42 AM
You mean like a certain type of weed?
The irony is that gambling, formerly considered a vice by the state, is now welcomed as a source of revenue.
It’s OK as long as the governor gets her cut, I suppose. Is that anywhere close to the definition of “venal?”
Those who wish to express and enjoy their other natural rights — say to marry who they want — might consider giving the governor and the legislature their due. It might work.
I would think there are other crops than weeds that can be grown in a dry land setting… How would Cotton do out that direction???
Joe criticizes JWink for being an “outsider” from JoCo. Joe doesn’t realize it, but he’s promoting a failure ethos for Wichita.
Joe’s progenitors came from somewhere else. Whether it was his father, grandfather or great-grandfather who was the first Williams clan-member to relocate to Wichita, the truth is, not only was he an outsider, other outsiders created the opportunity for the Williams clan to come here.
The federal government, acting at the behest of eastern capitalists who wanted to make money from Kansas’s development, without actually living here themselves, moved the only true native Kansans, members of the Wichita Indian group, out, to make way for foreigners after the Civil War.
Wichita’s founding fathers, such as Murdock, Douglas, and Mead, were born and raised elsewhere.
Wichita’s second-generation settlers brought Wichita cosmopolitan goods and services. They wanted their little city to be compared to SAN FRANCISCO in the minds of PEOPLE WHO DIDN’T LIVE HERE, in order to ATTRACT OUTSIDERS. (Read Craig Miner’s “Magic City”.)
Wichita’s first industrialists, Coleman, Koch, Beech and Cessna came from outside Kansas. They brought outside-world knowledge and transformed Wichita.
After the Great Depression devastated Wichita’s aircraft sales, the federal government and outsider engineers, working with the Tennessee-native Walter Beech, and Seattle-based Boeing, created Wichita’s modern aviation industry. The original plan was to provide WWII jobs, but afterwards, it was recognized that A. the wartime industrial infrastructure could be converted to civilian use, and B. there were few opportunities for tens thousands of farm refugees, who constituted the manufacturing force, to return home.
Joe may not understand this, but Wichita isn’t going anywhere with “native” ideas.
Take the casino. A controversial, but arguably economy-boosting idea in the 80’s and 90’s, when the concept drew dollars from outside the local area. But this is 2007. Being a very late adopter is a losing game. It’s not going to bring positive net dollars from the outside world. At best it’s going to lessen the outflow of dollars taken by today’s Wichita gamblers to Oklahoma, Topeka and Kansas City. But this slow-the-hemorrhage tactic is not going to reinvigorate Wichita. There’s a difference between a tourniquet and a transfusion. If you only apply a tourniquet to stop blood loss, you lose a limb.
This is why I suggested that we spend $200 M to build a 21st century nanotech, infotech, biotech research center at WSU. Ben, in follow-up to my original suggestion, proposed an alternative composite research center. Others have pointed out the need to coordinate this with vocational-technical training. Composites may be the best idea. There is already some expertise here, and building on it is a sound idea. For example, suppose suppose this idea was taken up, and Wichita designed new-and-better wind-turbine generators. Last year in the USA, new wind generators produced the electricity of two nuclear generators. Kansas has enough wind power to provide electrical generation exceeding 100 nuclear power plants. Take the knowledge involved in composites, which is really material science, and branch out to solar-power products. There is enough non-depleting energy here in Kansas, to supply Kansas’s needs, and export, for Kansans’ profit, a vast excess to the rest of America.
Consider fluid mechanics, which underpin aircraft design. Apply our fluid mechanics aviation expertise and Kansas’s deep-bore-drilling expertise for oil and natural gas extraction, and use Kansas’s geothermal energy to develop greenhouse crops production. A year-round-production 40 acre multi-species greenhouse can produce more crops sales value than a 600 acre commodity-grain farm. Start small and expand, and guess what? We can keep a lot more people on family farms, profit-making members of an “ownership” society.
Chas – I think cotton needs more water.
I still think range coupled with game wildlife should be an option; at least for some land. Allow land-owners to purchase game permits wholesale and to re-sell them at a profit.
Thanks MPS. I, too, am a transplant. And I agree that we bring in ideas very different from the home-grown.
I would add that we can do an infinitely better job of selling Wichita than the natives can for a very simple reason: I can say “I have lived THERE and now I live HERE. I like it HERE.”
A comment on your greenhouse: might it also be ‘fed’ power-plant effluent? High CO2 does encourage plant growth if other conditions can be controlled properly. Also can feed off the exces heat in the winter – which is when I would REALLY love to be able to get tomatoes.
My 401k gained more money yesterday, in just one day, then will ever be gained in Social Security for me.
Well should know tonight on the final vote. Sedgwick County will get 1% if I followed the majority.
Really Max? Stock Market is a sure thing right? Never goes down right? How much did you lose on Friday when the market was down 281 pts.?
littlejohn,Better to be a Republican candidate and be called a clown by leftists, than to be an elected Democrat and be the puppet of abortonist quacks, like most elected Kansas Democrats really are.
i am outta here till later, at 1:18 p.m.
Annie,
Not doing to bad in the market overall. When the market has a little correction like it did recently you don’t lose anything if you don’t sell.
You buy stocks that are undervalued when the market is down. You never sell!
The value of your overall portfolio may vary in value, but who cares? The market is a proven winner over the long term if you have a diversified portfolio.
By the way, I filled my motorhome three days ago when I could get gas for $2.639. Going t a trial in Rulo, NE. in two weeks. We’ll see if it was a good buy then!

Nice. How about ‘I know you are but what am I’?
So Ben, you’re saying that the CO2 produced by carbon-fueled power plants could be used to promote the growth of greenhouse crops. During the day crops photosynthesize, which neatly corresponds to the diurnal period of peak electricity demand and generation. A 21st century “co-generation” concept. Recycle a “waste” gas to turn it into an agricultural-production-boosting resource.
Chas, funny you mention cotton. There is some grown in far southwest Kansas. But the funny thing? The cotton farmers in central Texas were planting WHEAT because there was no money in cotton and they thought WHEAT would save them.
More shifting of crops and climate change? heheheheeh.
Big ag will grow whatever the government subsidizes. And right now the government is subsidizing ethanol and the associated water use and irrigated grain growing.
And THAT holds true in Texas AND Kansas.
I complained about the same posts that RepubliKhansas, I think. This is an email I got from Phillip Brownlee:
“Steven: Thanks for the e-mail. We’ve deleted all the “troll” posts. They appear to have been made by one of the regular liberal posters, not the person who used those other nics. pb”
Hate to defend you know who, but when he’s telling the truth, it is a noteworthy thing and we all should encourage him develop that habit – is my defense, anyway.
MPS – yes. I have kicked this idea around for years. Even if we were dealing with possibly contaminated effluent use it for fiber or fuel production.
An aside for peak electricity demand: when it is hot it tends to be both sunny and windy. Great for wind and solar power.
Chas., there is also some cotton being grown in Cowley County. So, it’s not just Southwestern Kansas farmers giving it a whirl.
There were a few farmers that tried cotton here in Sedgwick, CO a couple of years ago. I think they’ve put a gin in Arkansas City.
OutFREAKINstanding. So now the Carlyle group makes money from the Saudi’s, weapons deals, and now military equipment deals…
DETROIT – General Motors Corp. said today it has completed the sale of its Allison Transmission commercial and military business to Carlyle Group and Onex Corp. for $5.6 billion.

Hank – did you say you are bringing the gin?
Why yes it is Tom. Isn’t that JUST peachey?
Ben, Ben, Ben
I’m a conservative, Christian. The body is the temple of my soul.
Gin?
Wild Turkey in moderation. A very nice Port that I got from Sandeman last time in Portugal. Anejo from Puerto Rico.
All thing in moderation, but by the very best! Gin? No thankyou.

An extraordinary credit boom that created many first-time homeowners and financed a wave of corporate takeovers seems to be waning. Home buyers with poor credit are having trouble borrowing. Institutional investors from Milwaukee to Düsseldorf to Sydney are reporting losses. Banks are stuck with corporate debt that investors won’t buy. Stocks are on a roller coaster, with financial powerhouses like Bear Stearns Cos. and Blackstone Group coming under intense pressure.
The origins of the boom and this unfolding reversal predate last year’s mistakes. They trace to changes in the banking system provoked by the collapse of the savings-and-loan industry in the 1980s, the reaction of governments to the Asian financial crisis of the late 1990s, and the Federal Reserve’s response to the 2000-01 bursting of the tech-stock bubble. The Journal’s Jon Hilsenrath discusses the origins of the credit boom and some of the lessons to be learned from its demise.
There’s a 4,000 hectare greenhouse in Rotterdam that’s heated by a Combined Heat & Power plant — plus they feed the CO2 in the exhaust to the greenhouse plants.

What saddens me the most about Bush and his cronies is not that they are in office, but that they were not only elected, but elected twice!
I think that says more about the American people than it does about anything else. Are the majority of us really that shortsighted? (rhetorical question, in case you voted for Bush)
Can marketing (and that IS why Bush won, and why most other candidates regardless of party affiliation win) really sway us so much that we decide that George W. Bush is the person out of the millions in our country that we choose to be our leader?

Darling,
This Port I bought was around $37 a bottle at the Sandeman factory. Can’t touch it in Doo Dah.
Maybe, just maybe, after our sushi date I’ll dust off a bottle for you and yours and me and mine.
Anyone that appreciates a good Port can’t be all bad!
Hank
HEHEH! They used to sell it in the liquor stores in NY/NJ just like regular stuff. I’m pretty sure you cant get it here, which is why I said I havent looked!
I also used to get fresh duck in the markets there, just like we get fresh chicken. I roasted it and then basted it with a CHEAPER port and deglazed the pan with it.
Then I drank the Sandeman’s while I ate the duck. Mmmmmmmmm!
You can get Sandeman around here, but not the vintage I have in my pantry. If I remember I’ll look at the vintage tonight.
Tonight’s my poker night, I may forget.
Hank
Oh, and for the record, I like both ruby and tawny port. :)
Momma doesn’t know it yet but I’m taking her to the Peppercorn Duck Club in KC next Saturday night. Staying at the Crown Center Hyatt Regency.
All our trips anymore are dog related, getting away by ourselves.
They are the only ones that fix duck better than me!

‘Gore: Polluters Manipulate Climate Info’
http://www.forbes.com/feeds/ap/2007/08/07/ap3995613.html
“”There has been an organized campaign, financed to the tune of about $10 million a year from some of the largest carbon polluters, to create the impression that there is disagreement in the scientific community” about global warming, [Al] Gore said at a forum in Singapore. “In actuality, there is very little disagreement.”
“This is one of the strongest of scientific consensus views in the history of science,” Gore said. “We live in a world where what used to be called propaganda now has a major role to play in shaping public opinion.” “
Steven D. writes that Brownlee sent him this e-mail: “We’ve deleted all the ‘troll’ posts. They appear to have been made by one of the regular liberal posters.”
Okay, what was the nature of the deleted posts?
Because the posting over my nic and Chas and FGrrl’s on 4 Aug are still there . . .
Also, I wonder if RepukeTroll can get people’s IP address when they click on his blog. That’s one reason why I have never clicked on his blog.
If he can set his IP address like he says he can, then he could take TROLLing to the next level.
Lastly, if anybody from our side is TROLLing, stop it now. It is not only bad no matter who does it, it muddies up the waters trying to stop the problem troll.
Poker Night Hank? just remember if the cops come knocking on the door make them get a warrant http://www.kansas.com/213/story/141858.html
Hey Tom,
We live in the County. No cops. Sheriff’s been bought off for years.

“our side”?
Who you speaking for Capn?
Liberals, leftists, progressives, non-ditto heads.
Next question?
Oh . . . and all of us SOCIALISTS too. Don’t want to leave them out.
Early 2007 saw record-breaking extreme weather: U.N. By Laura MacInnis
Tue Aug 7, 9:57 AM ET
GENEVA (Reuters) – The world experienced a series of record-breaking weather events in early 2007, from flooding in Asia to heatwaves in Europe and snowfall in South Africa, the United Nations weather agency said on Tuesday.
ADVERTISEMENTThe World Meteorological Organization (WMO) said global land surface temperatures in January and April were likely the warmest since records began in 1880, at more than 1 degree Celsius higher than average for those months.
There have also been severe monsoon floods across South Asia, abnormally heavy rains in northern Europe, China, Sudan, Mozambique and Uruguay, extreme heatwaves in southeastern Europe and Russia, and unusual snowfall in South Africa and South America this year, the WMO said.
“The start of the year 2007 was a very active period in terms of extreme weather events,” Omar Baddour of the agency’s World Climate Program told journalists in Geneva.
While most scientists believe extreme weather events will be more frequent as heat-trapping carbon dioxide emissions cause global temperatures to rise, Baddour said it was impossible to say with certainty what the second half of 2007 will bring.
“It is very difficult to make projections for the rest of the year,” he said.
HEALTH CRISIS
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), a U.N. umbrella group of hundreds of experts, has noted an increasing trend in extreme weather events over the past 50 years and said irregular patterns are likely to intensify.
South Asia’s worst monsoon flooding in recent memory has affected 30 million people in India, Bangladesh and Nepal, destroying croplands, livestock and property and raising fears of a health crisis in the densely-populated region.
Heavy rains also doused southern China in June, with nearly 14 million people affected by floods and landslides that killed 120 people, the WMO said.
England and Wales this year had their wettest May and June since records began in 1766, resulting in extensive flooding and more than $6 billion in damage, as well as at least nine deaths. Germany swung from its driest April since country-wide observations started in 1901 to its wettest May on record.
Mozambique suffered its worst floods in six years in February, followed by a tropical cyclone the same month, and flooding of the Nile River in June caused damage in Sudan.
Uruguay had its worst flooding since 1959 in May.
Huge swell waves swamped some 68 islands in the Maldives in May, resulting in severe damage, and the Arabian Sea had its first documented cyclone in June, touching Oman and Iran.
Temperature records were broken in southeastern Europe in June and July, and in western and central Russia in May. In many European countries, April was the warmest ever recorded.
Argentina and Chile saw unusually cold winter temperatures in July while South Africa had its first significant snowfall since 1981 in June.
The WMO and its 188 member states are working to set up an early warning system for extreme weather events. The agency is also seeking to improve monitoring of the impacts of climate change, particularly in poorer countries which are expected to bear the brunt of floods, droughts and storms.
Heh. :)
Paranoia runs deep around here.
the phathom — Western Kansas should find a crop more compatible with their natural environment, and requires less irrigation.
That would be dirt, phathom.
I made a video for the curious on how posts are managed in TypePad.
With specific regard on how Trolls and Spam can be controlled.
I didn’t use Zoom when I made the video, so I settled for the full screen option.
You may have to left click on the black video screen to get it to work and the right click to choose play.
After it is playing, you can right click again and choose Zoom – Full Screen View to see a full screen version.
Was trying to keep the file size down by not using a lot of zoom in the video. :)
Anyway, if you want to look at it, it’s at my Blog and may remove some of the mystery how posts are deleted, comments edited and etc. About a 5 minute video with some free advertising on the end for TypePad. :D

No, I can’t check your IP number if you just visit the Blog, only if you make a comment there. :)
But, there is software I can add to do that, but I don’t do that because it discourages visitors. :)
Questions:
Why are liberals such damnable traitors?
Why do liberal act like petty, vile stalinists, paying lip service to “democarcy” only when it suits them?
case in point:
House Explodes Over Illegal Alien Benefits
Aug 03, 07
Over 100 Republicans walked out of the House of Representatives last evening after accusing the Democrats of changing the outcome on an important vote that would give welfare benefits to illegal aliens. C-Span described this morning that the vote was prematurely gaveled at 214-214, which would have resulted in failure, but Republicans say that when the gavel fell, the scoreboard clearly showed that Republicans had won 215-213. Democrats are now saying the final vote was 216-212 in favor of the Democrats who are pushing to give welfare benefits to illegal aliens.

Based on early retuns it’s clear that the “No-No”’s have it. It is always good to see the little people do what their betters tell them. Nanny Town.
I don’t know what you mean by little people, but after I voted I asked my grown boys and they also indicated they voted no-no.They are far from little.
Anyone have a more current link to election returns:
http://www.sedgwickcounty.org/elections/election_results/spcl07/index.html
1% of the vote is not a result.
The first early reporting had the Casino and slots ahead.
You have to remember, that the arena NO votes were ahead for quite awhile until the end of the night.
It’s still a wait and see.
Don’t forget that provisional votes have be counted.
(overseas military, those going on vacation, out of town folks, etc.)
ANKeny,
The first votes to be counted are the early votes – the advance mail-in ballots, and the early voting from the satellite polling places.
The regular polling places are probably just now finishing getting their machines totaled out. The next 30 to 45 minutes will be where the big numbers come in.
Troll: You don’t know the difference between a provisional ballot and an advance ballot. Those people you listed are not “provisional” votes.
Casino votes are gaining. But still slightly behind.
I’m tired of being told what’s good or not good for me. I voted “yes”, just didn’t have the stomach to be on the same side as the religious right.
Joe,
As of 8:15, it looks like about 20 or so polling places have reported in. From the precincts, it’s the ones closest to the Election Office.
Right now it’s 60 polling places.
I didn’t link the two deliberately Tom. I just know that some Provisional Ballots were cast when some voting machines went down on early voting and perhaps tonite (rumored.)
My name isn’t Troll Tom.
If you want to continue to behave that way Tom, that’s fine. It says more about your attitude than it does mine.
I have two friends of mine that voted provisional, because they moved to a different place, but they are still registered voters. They voted, Yes Yes!
Joe,
It’s 60 precincts. 3 or 4 precincts to a voting place.
Looks like Ben’s free breakfast is looking good. hahaha!
It’s more like 24% in.
Troll,
Your lies are beyond ridiculous. You used your parenthetical list as your example of “provisional” ballots. Those are _advance_ voters, and they’re the _first_ ones counted. Not the last.
Oh, and Troll, if you don’t wish to be addressed as Troll, don’t behave like one.
I’m not holding my breath.
118 in. Slots are winning. Casino drop a %.
It looks like most of the unreported precincts are rural. I don’t think there’s a hope for the casino. The dog track slots are still too close to call.
It looks like most of the unreported precincts are rural. I don’t think there’s a hope for the casino. The dog track slots are still too close to call.
Okay Tom,
$5000.00 wager on the list of Trolls that posted Saturday. If any of them are not Republican or Kansas and another name that posted matches the IP of Republican or Kansas I will pay you $5000.00.
If not, I will split the wager win with Phillip Brownlee for doing the research.
Feeling like gambling Tom?
or? :)
I think it’s the opposite Tom. It’s the inner city core coming in early. The rural areas have yet to report.
Troll behavior is not dependent on nic-switching, Troll.
Troll behavior is the constant, unrelenting disruptions you create on almost every thread you post on.
Troll behavior is the threats of stalking, burglary, and assault.
Troll behavior is spinning lie after lie after lie, and even when you’re caught, you try to cover with yet another lie.
It has little to do with the name(s) you choose for yourself. So take your “$5000″ and piss off.
Thanks.
Whatever. Brownlee never took you up on the last time you offered, what makes you think he’ll do it this time?
To clarify – any troll(not Republican or Kansas nic) posting that matches my IP , Tom gets $5000.00
If not and Tom accepts wager, he pays Phillip Brownlee and I $2500.00 each.
Joe, that’s what I said. “unreported precincts are rural.”
No PMom, Capn never took me up on my wager. :)
My bad Tom! You’re right!
No problem, Joe. I think I worded that awkwardly.
Did you vote yes or no Tom?
Joe,
I voted. :)
Cool! I can understand that. ;)
196 precincts in. Looks like utter failure for the casino. We could be headed for a recount on track-slots, though.
I can’t believe how so many people fall for the old “the sky is falling” routine.
Has Wichita ever passed up an opportunity to pass up an oppportunity?
Sumner County must be cheering.
Well, who said that the influence of the religious right was on the wane in Kansas? It looks as if I will have to continue to trek to Vegas to play poker and baccarat, oh well.
A Casino is still coming. 8 miles from Wichita, 4 miles from Derby.
Jonas,
The last “social issue” vote in Sedgwick County went 69% to 31%. This one is 56% to 44%.
Looks like a waning to me.
Totals up! Both loss.
Say bye bye to the Greyhound Park. Say bye bye to 300+ jobs and yet another empty building in Park City.
Where are you seeing that on the slots at the track?Doesn’t look like it from this website.
We will be the laughing stock of Kansas, yet once again.
We will be a laughing stock of Kansas now.
Joe,
There’s a 350 vote difference on track slots. I believe that’s an automatic recount. Plus, the provisionals haven’t been counted.
It’ll be interesting to see how stiff the fight over provisionals will be. The lawyers for both sides are gonna love this…
I was a No Yes.
The Yea!Yea!Rah!Rah! crowd should be doing some soul-searching. How did they manage to turn a 70-30 lead into a 55-45 loss?
While some of this can be ascribed to the fundies and the catholics a lot of the blame should also lie with the arrogance of so many on the YES side.
Tomorrow I will post once more the various disparate reasons I gave for why it would fail.
I did, however, expect a split. I think Ruffin began too late in his efforts to separate from the unknown site.
Sedgwick County will begin the bleed. Sumner will benefit.
Casino will be 8 miles from Wichita.
Well Ben,
You and I were waaaaay off on our turnout predictions. But the end result was the same.
Where is the site supposedly on this joe?Do they have a group yet to bring in (Bally’s, Harrah’s type?)
I helped a little. :)

Let the rock throwing and name calling begin.
Troll behavior is the constant, unrelenting disruptions you create on almost every thread you post on.
**When anyone disagrees with Tom, then it’s called an “unrelenting disruption”.
Troll behavior is the threats of stalking, burglary, and assault.
**No, that would be Battery. Not aware of any laws against “trolls”. Doubt if even American lawyers have dreamt up laws for trolls yet.
Troll behavior is spinning lie after lie after lie, and even when you’re caught, you try to cover with yet another lie.
**Lie spinning is when you disagree with Tom.
It has little to do with the name(s) you choose for yourself. So take your “$5000″ and piss off.
**Not aware of any trademark protection of Nic Names on blogs. Maybe Vaughn or GMC can research that for us at $185 an hour.
Thanks.

Why y’all so sensitive to “trolls” who disagree with you?
My, never seen such fear since Kindergarten when kids used to call each other “names”.
Y’all afraid of your shadow too?
Just ignore whoever you think the Nic’s are, and move on. You spend more blog space with your Nic Bitching then writing anything that might be worth reading!
The people have spoken. It’s time to accept the vote.
Ruffin says he will close the Dog Track. Goodbye!
Add another empty building to Park City. When are people going to get a clue that AIN’T the place.
People didn’t want the Casino, acceptable. I saw this as a opportunity for the City to sell some property downtown.
People want the City to continue to use tax money. Fixing up Century II. Building a new library and owning the Hyatt. Building on the corner of Douglas and Main will stand tall and continue to rot.
I’ll go to Vegas before going to Sumner County for gambling.
I’ve never been to Oklahoma nor Missouri, not to any tribal Casino in this state just to gamble!
I was looking forward to gambling in Wichita.
I’m glad they said NO the dog track slots as well.
Sedgwick County nor Wichita would have benefited with a dogs and slots only!
I’ve enjoyed the dog track. Food was always decent or better. Dog races are entertaining to watch even if you don’t bet on them.300 more people out of work now to bitch about this that or the other thing.I’d have liked to see the slots pass.
Well! It’s time for me to promote and get the Peerless Tower going. Since the Casino will be in Sumner, I have to make a point that it cannot be promoted through the Peerless Tower.
The people have spoken!
Joe! Has that vote been declared? Seems pretty much tied right now.
Joe! I feel your pain! 2000! One thing I did that was different from many on ‘my side’ is instead of focusing only on ‘hanging chads’ I also looked at the abysmal campaign gore had run. Especially not holding his ‘flank’ from Nader which made the difference in FL and NH.
My point here is that your side should do the same. Kahrs did not defeat the casino. If you had held your ‘flank’ you win 60-40. And, if Ruffin had succeeded in separating the track from the casino I think he would have prevailed.
With 70-30 two months ago this was one for yeayearahrah to lose. And they did.
“Sedgwick County nor Wichita would have benefited with a dogs and slots only!”
I assume you meant “neither” with the “nor” and that is why you are glad it lost.
That statement, Mrage, is simply another LIE! Sedgwick would have received revenues much as they would have from a casino.
Well, who said that the influence of the religious right was on the wane in Kansas?
Posted by: Jonas Outram | August 07, 2007 at 09:15 PM
How dare you! I voted my heart. My family voted our beliefs. How DARE you belittle and label me.
Sedgwick County will still get 1% though.
I’m fine with the vote. Again! The people have spoken.
I will move the Tower back to the Hyatt Park now. Let’s see if Wichita would support it.
Max,
How did you read “nic switching” into my post? I told the troll the names it uses don’t matter. Are you having trouble reading?
Oh, and my bad for saying “assault” instead of “battery.” Threatening battery makes the troll’s behavior sooooo much more acceptable.
::eyeroll::
Ben,
I prefer Wichita to benefit equal to Sedgwick County. I careless if Sedgwick County benefits alone.
Maybe they will use that 1% for the Arena. Happy?
It looks like about 6% or more voted NO-YES. I wonder how many voted YES-NO hoping to give the casino a monopoly?
“I’m glad they said NO the dog track slots as well.”
I wonder if that number would have been enough to swing it for the track. It looks like only about 0.3% or so.
Oh Tommy, you are soooo sensitive. Get over your troll phobia already!
There is still provisionals. A 343 vote difference.
Max,
I read Tom’s comments. He has “expanded” the definition of “troll”.
Apparently, it matters not about NIC stealing.
It’s all a matter of perception of the individual blogger.
Of note, it is only liberals who give a rats ass. Also of significant NOTE: According to the WEBLOG: IT IS LIBERALS DOING THE TROLLING.
Have a nice day!
Mrage – since I am a resident of Sedgwick County I would have preferred to see my County get the revenues the track you hate so much would have generated. But, as Joe notes, my county will still get the 1% from Sumner – as I have stated all along.
And Nic Phobia too!
Well,it is too bad about the casino and the slots losing. I don;t personally care for slots, but they would have brought in some revenue. The casino likewise. But, I saw far more commercials against than for. Maybe that made a difference. I don;t know. ANyway, too bad. I would have made a few trips to the casino.
Ch 12 is saying too close to call.
So “Troll” or “Nic” is just Name Calling.
I get it.
Who the F cares?
Much ado about nothing.
Oh, and my bad for saying “assault” instead of “battery.” Threatening battery makes the troll’s behavior sooooo much more acceptable.
::eyeroll::
Posted by: Tom |
Tom please provide a link to where someone threatened you with battery or assault. I’ll frag the SOB.
:::middle finger:::
Actually, “American” Way, the accepted internet definition of “troll” has been, since the days when it was primarily usenet, any poster whose aim is to disrupt and harass. The only reason the troll (and its new little friends) are trying to narrow the definition is so they all can say “see, he’s not a troll.”
Nice try, though.
troll–noun 1. (in Scandinavian folklore) any of a race of supernatural beings, sometimes conceived as giants and sometimes as dwarfs, inhabiting caves or subterranean dwellings.
2. Slang. a person who lives or sleeps in a park or under a viaduct or bridge, as a bag lady or derelict.
So a troll is a supernatural being. Ok, that’s not such a bad thing. Wouldn’t mind being a troll, I guess, if I have to.
Disrupt or Harass.
You mean what Liberals do to Conservatives?
English, it’s so complicated.
A problem of definition.
Must research for hours to figure this one out.
It will be productive time though, I’m sure.
“American” Way,
On July 10, the troll threatened to show up uninvited at Ksfarmgrrl’s home, using “satellite imagery,” “gps” and “public court records.” The WEBlog editors deleted his original post, but most of the rest of it is still there.
On July 11, the troll threatened to burglarize my place of business while I was out of town. He posted my full name, and the general location of my office. The WEBlog editors deleted that post.
Just the other day, the troll threatened to punch Cosmos in the face. The WEBlog editors deleted that post.
Well for someone to label me and my family based upon the outcome of the election is wrong. I loose respect for any party that participates in such conduct.
There are people who live in my neighborhood, who came from more rural parts of Kansas. We love our state and our way of life. Some of us didn’t happen to think we needed Casino’s to improve upon that.
That does not make me a religious zealot. It would do your party good to realize that labeling those who happen to disagree does yourselves more harm in the long run than good.
You treat me like this and my family will look elsewhere for open minded non-bigoted people to represent us.
Obviously, I am in the majority here.
AW, you haven’t been here long…(or maybe you have). I seriously doubt anything he says. He’s made up so many different stories about everything. If it IS a liberal who is doing the trolling, we’d shun that one so fast it’d make your head spin.
Well A.N.Keny, just because you are in the majority, doesn’t mean you are right.
And there is much voter fraud nowadays, you know.
Not sure if they can bring the vote up again or not. Hope they can try again though.
Who the heck is WE Mommy?
Good grief, ANKeny get over it… The whole world doesnt have to agree with your family virtues/vices/values…. to make the world right, or you wrong…
I think you are pushing this WAY too far for your own good!!
“Actually, “American” Way, the accepted internet definition of “troll” has been”Tom
“–noun 1. (in Scandinavian folklore) any of a race of supernatural beings,”Max
Sorry people, but I read the JRR Tolkien books in the 70’s. That’s my understanding of a troll.
But if you want, I’ll die defending your RIGHT to say it!I’ll frag em for either of you.
I posted the above.Does that make me a troll?
A N – that labeling is what Joe! has been doing all alone.
Mike – I will join you in calling for a re-vote if you will reciprocate and join with me in doing the same thing.
I’m wondering how many provisional votes are out there.
With 101,168 voting. I’m assuming there is probably a 1% provisional ballot number.
I bet its makes the no voters all warm and fuzzy inside that 300 people will lose their jobs>
Ben,
I’ve been to dog track Ben, probably 20 times since it opened. You never went there.
I don’t prefer to watch dog racing anymore. I’m sorry people will lose their jobs out there.
I’ve met Phil Ruffin and his family before a few times. He spent large cash on this vote but recently made a Billion selling property in Vegas.
His home town didn’t want expanded gambling. The years he promoted this vote to happen. Thanks to Phil. We had to vote!
I’m pro Wichita. Sedgwick County gets the 1%, downtown still has the Arena. I rejected that Park City location a long time ago.
People rejected the area again.
I’m trying to improve the Yes vote for the Arena so its a better plan. Something we can promote in this County.
It will be pretty sad to settle with No Casino or Racino, plus have a smaller Arena.
Learned from Dad how to deal with threats Tom.
He used to get threatening phone calls all the time from disgruntled union factory workers.
His solution: Invite them over to the house for a chat.
Not one of them showed up, and they quit calling.
Dad always had a shotgun handy though, just in case.
Blogs, being anonymous, unless you are stupid enough to give your personal info away, should be quite safe, dontcha think?
I think it’s Funny that Sedgewick Co gave up something good like a casino. But hey, better for the rest of Kansas. I still think Sumner co is ridiculous though…if i would drive ALL the way to Sumner Co…I might as well go one more county where more variety will be. I don’t go to the casinos except twice in my adult life…but I will go to buy cheap smokes.
For those of you who haven’t been on the internet since the late 80s/early 90s, check out en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_troll
Okay Tom,
I’ll give you a chance to give the accurate wording of the threads instead of boosting your victimhood status.
What you are writing is both slanderous and libelous.
Wasn’t this the nanny state issues that the neocons were against? Let people choose their own way. But no, now we have to PROTECT people from themselves!
I’m sure voter fraud was involved.
Need to have a recount for sure.
Troll,
Is that a threat?
You know, to sue me, you have to reveal who you really are.
Oh, and FYI, even though WEBlog editors have deleted some of your more threatening posts, I kept copies.
Too bad Mrage. You could have had at least the racino but you wanted it all – even though you knew you would lose. Perhaps if you had not rejected any site other than your downtown site the casino might have won.
By the way – how are your “efforts” (sic) for your bigger Arena coming along?
Mike – I think there will be an automatic recount on the track. Bill Gale runs a pretty tight ship.
I think you are pushing this WAY too far for your own good!!
Posted by: Chas.
Do I know you Chas? I am responding to the poster calling this a religious right victory.
My family and I are not religious right members. We are fifth, sixth, and seventh generation Kansas residents.
We do not have to be religious or right – to not want gambling in our home town. Some of my family do vote other than straigth republican, so you cannot call us all “right”. And some of my boys and their wives do not attend church regularly, and do not participate in the activities so you certainly cannot call them religious by any means.
Did you call this a victory for the religious right Chas?
As I said before Ben, there are Provisional Ballots yet to be counted. :)
Will probably get an accurate piece count by the end of the week and the complete tally by Monday…maybe.
I say we know by tomorrow on the provisionals.
How would Chas know this was a victory for the religious right?
Really smart unemployed man that he is.
There must be some torn “Chads”.We MUST take this to the US Supreme Court.
We canNOT take loosing fair and square.
Tom, just because you are paranoid, doesn’t mean they aren’t out to get you.
We are probably looking at a 2000 provisional ballot, maybe more.
Isn’t there a rule on that Joe?
I thought it was like “X” amount of days for provisionals, absentee ballots after election before a tally can be released?
Anyone know the election law on that?
AN, chas – that is why I seconded her comments. I am HARDLY religious right. A number of factors contributed to the yeayearahrah loss. I went through many of them some time ago when I predicyed they would lose. And that is the reason for some of my comments above.
It is particularly ironic that PRO-CASINO voters might have provided the margin of defeat for the track (if it loses)
No, ANKeny I call it a LOSS for the betterment of Kansas… a victory who want to keep Kansas living(Hah!) with our collective heads in the sand, wondering why the world has passed us by!!
If thats what you and your generations want, then perhaps you might have gotten it….
I bet we could have gotten a huge vote turn out to build the Kansas Flat Earth Museum
Ben,
I have one corp more viable than another.
This NO vote winning, denial of a anti-family gambling has made a few CEO’s extremely proud.I’m going to promote pro-family is what the Arena is all about.
Families should see themselves in the Arena on regional cable or national TV at college basketball games. College whatever events like Gymnastics.
Larger Arena has a better chance to bid for and win those events on national TV. Use our in state colleges to play downtown much as they can. Create 4 or 6 team tournaments in the downtown Arena.
A corp partner to help SMG.
Anyone see the picture of Phil Ruffin on the WE website? Kind of looks like a clown without makeup. Until you look at the bigger size picture you can’t tell he is wearing glasses.
At first glance I thought he had eye sockets about two inches in diameter.
How about a flat head museum for you and your lefties Chas?
I don’t think provos will make a difference I don’t believe their will be that many to change the outcome
Many-named Kansas troll,
WHY was your Aug. 3, 11:51 PM post DELETED??
WHY did Econ101 post,
“Cosmos?
dont need to punch him, …”
after Tom’s post at,http://blogs.kansas.com/weblog/2007/08/americas-infras.html#comment-78370276
Mrage – I’ll believe it when I see it.
Chas,
I just read your last two posts. Do you speak to your family members, or your mother this way?
Does the majority rule hold no respect to you? You cannot claim to be a member of a democracy if you are not prepared to accept and respect the opinions, and votes of another.
You become something else, maybe something less if you hold no respect for the rights of others.
I am sorry for you, but I am not sorry my city will not have a casino.
Hey Tom! WHy don’t you go back to editing your small town newspaper and leave us alone.
Can’t your newspaper afford it’s own blog?
Native Americans.1Wichita……….0
At least that’s what I gathered from the three commercials I’ve seen on TV tonight by N.A. casinos. :)
They planned for the commercials to air right after the vote.
Other casinos, Riverwind and Argosy have had commercials.
Chas – I have to disagree with you. Many ‘not-righties” voted against the ‘blue cloud’. Our reasons were not those of the fundies but had to do with things like location etc.
I had expected a larger swing vote (10%) than happened. But, with comments like Mrage’s “I’m glad slots lost” I wonder if perhaps a ‘reverse split’ sank the track.
AN, Chas – I would guess that AN and I disagree more than agree on many issues. However it appears that we were on the same side on casino. This issue definitely did NOT split along ‘normal’ lines.
I do wish that the casinos prop-1 would have passed, and I do wish that there weren’t so many people who based their vote solely on personal faith or party affiliation.
I truly hope that all “facts” were considered in every individuals vote, but I fear they were not.
It seems to me that too many people are not thinking for their selves anymore. Instead their are party voters, faith voters, or voters who are against the majority just out of spite.
Don’t get me wrong, it is ok to vote what your party/faith thinks as long as you know why they think that way and truly believe it as an individual. (Although I cannot think of a justification for those who vote out of spite.)
When the next issue arrives I encourage everyone to hear what every “side” has to say about the issue, research it (non-bias), and make your own conclusions.
Vote educated, vote informed, vote the facts, vote your opinions/faith/party, but don’t just vote ignorantly to say “I Voted”.
I accept the vote, just like the no arena people should.
But I’ll wait for provisionals. The Casino is Sumner is a done deal. Not enough to swing that.
There must be something we can do.I cannot believe this progressive vote lost. We must be able to appeal, recount, or even REVOTE this.
It is totally WRONG, that both issues lost.
Can’t the majority see that they are clearly wrong? There must be something WRONG with them.
This is a great victory for the people. Please join us in celebrating the voice of the people on defeating the spread of evil across the metro of Kansas.
Your vote will ensure competition and private enterprise will still exist with the already established casino’s in Kansas.

Yeah people shouldn’t vote on their convictions. That’s just plain wrong!
With the casino issue settled — what is next on the agenda for economic development? What is being done to make Wichita a player in the lightweight / composites industry? Shouldn’t they (county / city) be looking for a business / industrial park to develop?
Sanchovia – ‘my party’ came out in favor of the casino. My basic inclination would have been with the 70% two months ago. BUT – upon examination of everything I decided the uncertainties were simply too great. I did, however, support the location that I knew.
This thing should have passed. It did not fail due to Kahrs and the rest of the “NO” group. It lost due to a poor campaign and the failure to have any specific proposal.
I think that sourness around the other ‘blue cloud’ caught up the casino in guilt by association. Too many of the YeaYeaRahRah crowd were the same people as YeaRah.
But I will join Joe in waiting for provisionals. Who knows, the racino might still squeek by.
Joe! Bring the twins when we do breakfast. How old are they now?
I truly hope that all “facts” were considered in every individuals vote, but I fear they were not.
Oh so now Sanchovia says we are STUPID?
Because we did not vote the way YOU wanted us to vote, we were UNINFORMED?
I’m telling you people, you are not making any friends with fence setters or ANY party members tonight.
Your comments are an insult to those who voted. And I mean all of us no matter what your position.
ken – AGREED!
Joe! – maybe THIS would be the perfect development for the derby refinery site. A mile from WSU.
I’d love to see a Shockerville somehow develop along 21st St.
Our people are finally winning the war against the white man.
Economic development for them will have to be found elsewhere, on something more productive, maybe.
Or if white men leave, we can bring buffalo back.
AN – I hope you do not believe that Sanchovia in any way represents “liberals” or Democrats. As a person who is somewhat “liberal” and who leans democrat I agree with you about his BS arguements.
In fact, he represents the arrogance that I think contributed to their loss.
Quite a night. I didn’t expect the casino to fail, and I didn’t expect it to fail by such a large margin. Good for Wichita. The last thing this town needed was an economic strip mine plunked right downtown.
I do think it’s unfortunate that the slots failed up at Park City. Que sera sera.
Oh, and ‘Closet Lib’? Shove it up your ass. Would that the Democratic Party had shut down the country after the last two stolen Presidential elections.
Wahawk,
You really should stay away from the firewater, it isn’t good for you.
Actually A. N. Keny. I never once said “all voters”, nor did I use the term stupid.
I merely implied ignorance to a majority of voters, from both sides of the issue.
I am not sour about the results of the vote, for the same “entertainment” is only a couple of hours away.
I was “pro-casino” simply because I thought the ex-employees of Wild West World, Optima Bus, and various other former Sedgwick county business might like a new place to work. I was not and am not pro-casino solely on the basis of personal entertainment.
Remember Native Americans,
After the good hunt, prepare for the Winter.
Congratulations!
namah (did I print that right?)
Would make more sense to have the composites business park out near either of the airports — Mid – Continent would be best?
“…wondering why the world has passed us by!!”
That damage was done when you let Phelps out of his cage, became the focus of the abortion issue and those ugly red uniforms at Mid Continent on the visitor assistants. A casino would not have changed that — being the first and best at something would go a long way —– like being the silicon valley of the composites industry … being a mid west leader on alternative energy / eco friendly development — but that takes vision and leadership, who in the city and county can / will lead the charge on those issues — more than likely it will be some one who is not from here …..
CF2K,
Did you post something that made sense? I can read your swear words and I know the WEBLOG and liberal posters could care less about language (its all about trolls).
But you really need to get a job and work for a living. Then you would converse with human beings during the workday, and know about interpersonal relationships.
As it is, with you logging on after a half dozen beers, booze, and smoke, you are not relating to people normally.
Not only do you need to clean your room, but your mother should get you out of the house once in awhile. You need to meet someone special for you.
Have a nice night!
I just watched Barry Bonds hit his 756 home run. :)
Something new to discuss for those interested… It’s Michael Vick

“liberal posters could care less about language”
Crawl back in your closet. I usually at least attempt to use the language properpy.
By the way closet – I think the phrase you are ATTEMPTING to use is “couldN’T care less”.
I read what you originally post Sanchovia and am cognizant of the English language.
I see bloggers are now resorting to profanity in their posting so it is time for me to go. It is past my bedtime by far, but the excitement of the vote today and late night coffee kept me going this long.
Good night AN. I look forward to seeing more of your comments.
Ben,
I read what you posted. I then read what I had posted. I guess I wrote what I intended to write. If it’s incorrect, I’ll take the licking. But it still looks correct to me.
I’ll keep on ticking properpply too.
See you at the casino!
ANKeny… I hvent spoken to my mother for over 11 years… and dont intend to…
And yes, if my family members want to stick their heads in the sand, and choose to be regressive instead of progressive in life, I will say the same to them… and indeed, I have many times…
And then to see the so-called “chief blackhawk’s” post of stopping the spread of “evil” across Kansas…. only re-inforces what I have already said…
That said, I dont have much else to say… except I feel very sorry for my HOME State… Yes, ANKeny, this is MY home state too… with many generations here… born and raised here in Wichita… My family has DEEP ROOTS in this city… when being progressive on changes were important to our future… But, alas, I guess that time has perhaps come to an end… I will wait for the final vote tally…
And then, its time to pick up where this ends, and lead onward for a more progressive Kansas… a Kansas for tomorrow!! The same Kansas that has produced Boeing, and Beech, and Cessna, and Swallow, and Piper, and Lear Jet… and Coleman, and Koch, and the same Kansas that produced the once well known Jimmy Jabara…
Maybe those kinds of dreams are still possible…. I hope they are…
that has produced Boeing, and Beech, and Cessna, and Swallow, and Piper, and Lear Jet… and Coleman, and Koch,
And how many of the aforementioned enterprises began on the vote of the public with public handouts? How many were STATE RUN OPERATIONS?
Capitalists one and all.
Heck, they didn’t even use the word “progressive” to get things done.
Chad (not Chas) this is for you–
From wikipedia:
“A troll’s main goal is usually to arouse anger and frustration among the message board’s other participants, and will write whatever it takes to achieve this end. One popular trolling strategy is the practice of Winning by Losing. While the victim is trying to put forward solid and convincing facts to prove his position, the troll’s only goal is to infuriate its prey. The troll takes (what it knows to be) a badly flawed, wholly illogical argument, and then vigorously defends it while mocking and insulting its prey. The troll looks like a complete fool, but this is all part of the plan. The victim becomes noticeably angry by trying to repeatedly explain the flaws of the troll’s argument. Provoking this anger was the troll’s one and only goal from the very beginning.”
Holy mackeral! Who does that sound like?
That’s ok Chas. Life will go on after this vote.
The casino would have added much productive output, just like Cessna, Swallow, Beech, and Boeing.
You really should call Mom though. She won’t be around forever. It would be the Christian thing to do.
Sounds like CapnAmerica.
Closet – if the intent is to mean “I don’t care” then the proper useage is “I couldN’T care less” – that is “I care so little that I could NOT care less”.
Saying “I COULD care less would mean that I do, in fact, care about the issue.
http://wsu.edu/~brians/errors/care.html
“Clichés are especially prone to scrambling because they become meaningless through overuse. In this case an expression which originally meant “it would be impossible for me to care less than I do because I do not care at all” is rendered senseless by being transformed into the now-common “I could care less.” Think about it: if you could care less, that means you care some. The original already drips sarcasm, so it’s pointless to argue that the newer version is “ironic.” People who misuse this phrase are just being careless.”
Grafitti Troll–
A lot of products that you use are the result of pure university research that is subsidized by the government.
Pharmaceuticals for instance are heavily subsidized by university research. See PURDUE Pharma for instance.
The internet that you are using now is a direct result of research institutions and their IT-computer developments.
Capitalism is fine, but give credit where credit is due.
Thanks Ben. One learns so much reading this blog.
Yes, all credit should go to the government.
The government takes care of us all.
Now you want to tell me what to do with my Mother??? Tell me, idiot, what do you KNOW about my mother??? or why I wont speak to her ever again??? If you dont KNOW anything, then just shut up about what you dont know!!
We couldn’t live without the government.
Chas,
No matter what the reason for the break, call your mother.
All joking aside (aka: I am a troll), I have lost both my parents.
One I got to spend time with and speak to before….
The other one was WRONG in our disagreement.
But to this day I wish I had gone to see the WRONG parent before they were gone. Even if nothing was resolved in our differences, I would have been able to say and believe I did the RIGHT thing trying to reconcile. It is one of my few regrets.
I cannot bring them back.
I am not going to carry on a meaningless conversation with a self posted Troll!!! Go crawl back under your bridge….
Closet Troll–
When you make mistakes, you don’t kid around.
You make WHOPPERS.
CF2K is a friend of mine in real life. Everything you said about him is entirely false.
But keep throwing feces. Maybe you can get something to stick sometime.
Not as much as what is stuck to yourself though . . .
Chad, for your information, I did not bring it up… ANKeny, or whoever the heck IT is, brought it up…. I merely answered…. See, you already dont know what you are talking about….
And furthermore, I REFUSE to make a phone call to that woman…
Well I see the blog monitor and liberal leader of the WEBLOG has arrived with his typical insulting comments and fixation with trolls.
Time to give it up.
Hey Capn: You are going to be up half the night, have some consideration and close your bedroom door so you don’t disturb your mother sleeping in the other room.
She probably has to get up early to go to work.
Chad, for your information, I did not bring it up… ANKeny, or whoever the heck IT is, brought it up…. I merely answered…. See, you already dont know what you are talking about….
And furthermore, I REFUSE to make a phone call to that woman…
When you see it walking down the street
And you chance to meet
WALK ON BY dah da du DAH DAHWALK ON BY dah da du DAH DAH
CF2K is a friend of mine in real life.
So that’s what’s the matter with him. I guess you are his Captain and speak for him like you do so many others?
That’s what’s wrong with this blog.
It’s turnip greens.
Nice, the fussin’ and fightin’ continue, unabated. This is the second nuttiest forum on the web!
No, that’s YOUR mom that’s sleeping in the other room, Grafitti Troll.
Somebody has to clean the bathroom and take out the garbage.
It’s minimum wage and all she can eat.
Why don’t you call her sometime, you ungrateful little plick.
You see, Chad… My mother died on June 2, 1996, after a very long, protracted, extremely painful disease, that I would not wish on the world’s worst mass murderer… it was that terrible… but we were by her side… to the end…
SO THERE, IDIOT!!! GOTCHA!!!!
I dont need a psychologist for that… but maybe you do for presuming to know about things you know nothing about…. I think there is a term for that particular mental disorder… I think it is delusions of grandeur??? See Psychologists in the Yellow Pages!!!
GOTCHA!!!!
THings were carrying on just fine until that blog hog Capt America came on board insulting posters, calling them names, and filling the thread with worthless and meaningless fluff.
Yet he has the audacity to insult others.
He practises what he preaches.
CapN, the thread has been over run with a myriad of troll-like posters… I believe it’s time to check my email, and head off to bed… long day tomorrow!!
What a weird sense of humor.
“Gotcha” on your mothers grave?
Hope it was worth it to you.
Chad, the only one in need of help is YOU… whoever the hell you are!!! YOU knew nothing, but assumed you knew it all!!
You got caught, and now you try to shift it back to ME???
Now, THAT is about as bi-polar as it gets!!! Thats just about darn near text book definition!!!
Well I see most everyone departed.
Is anyone else like me left to talk to.
:::sigh:::
A.M.F dude!!!
I dont think its a bit funny…. TROLL…. I think it’s SAD that somebody on a Blog will go so far as to make assumptions about another person’s personal statement, and even go so far as to presume to know how to “cure” it??? RIGHT!!!! Sorry, dude, or dudette, that is NOT funny!!!
THAT is SICK!!! And SICK is what this thread is becoming!!
I am outta here at 11:48 p.m.
Agreed, Chas.
A good insult is something to be cherished and savored forever.
For instance, Winston Churchill got on a bus stumbling drunk.
“You sir, are inebriated,” said a meddlesome woman.
“Correct, madam,” replied the PM. “In the morning, I shall be sober. You however will still be ugly.”
Classic.
Or how about this gem:
Talkative High Society Lady to the Ambassador from Vietnam: “So . . . what kind of an ‘ese’ are you? Chinese, Japanese, or Taiwanese?”
Without hesitation, he replied, “why, madam, what kind of ‘key’ are you? Monkey, donkey or Yankee?”
These trolls give insults a bad name . . .
I quite agree CapN
And I certainly HOPE “chad” doesnt have my email address… since it isnt posted on this blog
Ouch, this could be big, in a very bad way, if it comes about.
Nixon should have allowed Russian to nuke the chinks back in the early ’70’s.
China threatens ‘nuclear option’ of dollar salesBy Ambrose Evans-PritchardLast Updated: 1:48am BST 08/08/2007
The Chinese government has begun a concerted campaign of economic threats against the United States, hinting that it may liquidate its vast holding of US treasuries if Washington imposes trade sanctions to force a yuan revaluation.
Two officials at leading Communist Party bodies have given interviews in recent days warning – for the first time – that Beijing may use its $1.33 trillion (£658bn) of foreign reserves as a political weapon to counter pressure from the US Congress. Shifts in Chinese policy are often announced through key think tanks and academies.
Described as China’s “nuclear option” in the state media, such action could trigger a dollar crash at a time when the US currency is already breaking down through historic support levels.
advertisementIt would also cause a spike in US bond yields, hammering the US housing market and perhaps tipping the economy into recession. It is estimated that China holds over $900bn in a mix of US bonds….http://www.telegraph.co.uk/money/main.jhtml?xml=/money/2007/08/07/bcnchina107a.xml
Graffitti Troll–
Please refrain from using the word “chinks” or suggesting that a vast nation of human beings like you and me should be “nuked.”
Some of those Chinese people are personal friends of mine.
Besides, if one used the brains the good Lord gave one, one would see that selling dollars or dollar denominated bonds would drive DOWN the value of the dollar (and drive UP the value of the Renmenbi) faster than anything the Chinese could do.
Chas–
Don’t e-mail him back because he can get your IP address (or at least the IP address your server was using at the time).
I don’t know exactly what kind of mischief one could do with that info, but leave it to the TROLL to have nothing better to do than try to F with people.
CapN…. He cant emailme if he doesnt have my email address… right?? and if it isnt posted here, he cant get it, right??
Chas,
Don’t worry yourself, if your email addy isn’t posted, nobody can get it.
Even a stopped clock is right twice a day.
Graffitti Troll is right. If you don’t have your e-mail posted as part of your Type Key account, and you don’t because I just checked, then you can’t be contacted.
Well, thats a relief!! LOL
And now, I do have a long day ahead… so I am outta here for tonite at 12:56 a.m.
Editors? Could you possibly remove all the gay bashing from this thread?
If Ian got banned for being racist, what is it going to take for you all to ban james macklin and his homophobic posts?
racism = badhomophobia = good
Got it! Just another day on the troll blog.
