The TV show “24” is taking steps to reduce and offset the carbon emissions produced during the production of its seventh season, with the goal of having the season finale be entirely carbon-neutral, the Washington Post reported. To help do that, the show’s diesel vehicles and generations will switch to a biodiesel fuel blend; the show’s electricity bills will go toward renewable-energy credits; location scouts will drive hybrid cars; and scripts and schedules that used to be hand-delivered by cars will be e-mailed, the Post reported. A Fox Network spokesman said the show wants “to inspire the public to take global warming seriously and hopefully to motivate other studios to make changes to their production practices as well.”
Good for “24.”

The show 24 is a favorite of George Bush and Dick Cheney. Many other neo-cons love it too.
It’s all about the torture theme.
Will the neo-cons stop watching 24 when they find out it cares about the enviroment?
Looks like 24 may be on the verge of “jumping the shark” It was on the edge last season…looking like they will give the go ahead this year and take the plunge.
Never watched that TV show nor do I know what it is about. But looks like regular citizens must take the small steps to fight global warming and environmental problems. Our politicians are in it for the big bucks … its now or never for them … so they are mostly absent from the battle field.
So its incumbent on concerned citizens to take the small environmental steps every day. Pretty soon these steps will reverbrate in the streets to add up to a real parade.
And don’t let the politicians drive around the parade to take up the front car position. Tell them bluntly to get out of the way.
Love “24″. Better than a lot of shows out there on TV, and oh gawd, the barrage of game shows and reality shows are so boring, well at least to me. Which are all favorites of Hillary Clinton and Harry Reid. You know, just playing games and giving a scripted reality and passing it as real. Will the neo-left ever know or learn that reality shows are scripted and planned? Or will they always believe it to be “real”.
Oh well!
The best drama series on television, by far is “The Wire” on HBO. That’s a damn good show.
I seldom watch TV and never have seen “24.”
Guess I’ll give it a shot. What station and time does it come on for viewing?
24 kicks ass. I don’t really care if they claim to be “green” or not. This is largely just marketing by them. Being “green” is the latest fad and they know it will get them attention. It worked. Perhaps this show that lots of lefties don’t like cause they always kick the bad guy’s ass will get more lefties to watch it. Lefties may like it now cause 24 is “green” and that just makes a lefty feeeeel gooood.
24 is on Fox (Fox!) on Monday at 7 or 8. Not now, but when the new season start in January I think.
Ah the old bait and switch. First, lure in Republicans with feel-good stories about torturing our fellow human beings, then when they least expect it whamo! Dr. Evil reveals his secret plot to preserve the environment for our children.
The poor saps never saw it coming.
Using less foreign oil WOULD help to give the terrorists less power, less money.
If “Biodiesel” is another name for ethanol, it really doesnt cut down on foreign oil use, that much, but if it is truly “biodiesel” that does put more money into domestic hands and less into teh mideast.
Anyway, I too, believe this is a publicity stunt.
I love “24″ but I think the idea that man causes “global warming” is absurd.
Warming is caused by the sun. The climate never stays the same, it always changes.
Even so, liberals, maybe 24 is teaching YOU a lesson: mandatory controls are a bad idea. If, within the free market, organizations wish to cut down on energy use, on their own, I see nothing wrong with that.
If if the motivation is publicity and politally correct (and faulty) faulty “science”.
even if
Econ,
The global oil market doesn’t work that way.
If western democracies magically stopped using foreign oil, the price would drop. Once the price dropped, India and China would buy even more of it than they do now, and continue building their economies. Within a few years, maybe a decade, prices would be right back where they are, and the exporting nations would never stop pulling in the cash.
Biodiesel is diesel made from vegetable oil, while ethanol is gasoline. Biodiesel is often made from used cooking oil. Just filter it a bunch of times and drop it in the tank. Since diesel engines work on compression they don’t need to be as volatile as gasoline. Ethanol is the alcoholic byproduct of fermented sugars.
So far in Britain all of McDonald’s fleet is going to be running it’s entire trucking fleet on it’s own waste oil. There’s no reason that couldn’t be implemented in the U.S.
“Warming is caused by the sun. The climate never stays the same, it always changes.”
Yes, the planet is warmed by the sun but the increases in global temperature are not caused by the sun as the amount of heat generated by the sun hasn’t changed.

Tom
I do not disagree with you on the global oil market.
That is precisely why I have warned, on this Blog, repeatedly, that mandatory controls won’t work.
However, even if it is mostly a politically correct publicity stunt when ANYONE claims to do something about “global warming” — I have no problem with voluntary measures.
That is the only point I was making.
Frankly, one of the BEST ways to cut down on foreign oil is to use more domestic coal, do more research on oil shale, and drill in ANWAR and off of Florida.
Hell, China is drilling off the Coast of Cuba, but we won’t drill of of Florida?
Doug
The amount if heat generated by the Sun changes ALL THE TIME!
That has to be the biggest error you have made, so far, on this Blog.
The Sun is NOT constant.
The Sun constantly changes.

1) Do you believe that there is no “greenhouse effect”?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greenhouse_effect“The Earth’s average surface temperature is about 33°C warmer than it would be without the greenhouse effect.”
2) Do you believe that humans have NOT increased Earths GHG’s, and thus increased radiative forcings? See graph at,
http://environment.newscientist.com/channel/earth/climate-change/dn11652
3) Where’s your scientific prove that that sun has caused Earth’s recent warming?
http://www.realclimate.org/index.php/archives/2007/07/friday-roundup/
‘It’s the sun! (not)’”Stefan was quoted in Nature as saying this is the ‘last nail in the coffin’ for solar enthusiasts, but a better rejoinder is a statement from Ray P: “That’s a coffin with so many nails in it already that the hard part is finding a place to hammer in a new one.” “
Way to go Eagle…another topic on “climate change”
The sun’s solar output does change but not at a level of significance to create the global warming effects. The data speaks for itself. I present the facts, you present your uninformed opinion. Guess which carries more weight in the real world?
http://environment.newscientist.com/article.ns?id=dn12234
Well, now there will be some real progress on global warming.
If it is good enough for the real leader of the Republican party, Jack Bauer, the rest of the Conservatives will soon be global warming activists.
Maybe Econ101 believes humans are not causing climate change because he watched the bogus ‘Swindle’ propaganda?
Watch the film producer stutter and stammer as he tries to defend using a 25 year-old graph of solar vs temperatures. ROFL
‘Global Warming Swindle Debate Pt 2http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=goDsc9IaSQ8
“Martin Durkin dissected, demolished and debunked by ace Australian journalist Tony Jones. Durkin revealed as a dangerous lying knave.”
I saw that stupid global swindle movie. I can’t believe anyone would fall for that tripe. Isn’t it ironic that the ’sun to blame’ advocates will see a correlation between solar activity and temp but won’t see it with co2 and temp?
Sad that the deniers either have to argue from ignorance or simply lie to promote their views.
Doug,
The errors in ‘Swindle’ were so obvious, I only could watch the 1st few minutes of it. But the interview (Youtube) upthread is worth watching.
Also, humans can’t control the sun, but we can, and HAVE changed Earth’s greenhouse gases.
The irony is that if solar energy increased, humans would want to REDUCE the total amount of GHG’s, to prevent warming.
Or, if solar decreased, humans would want to ADD GHG’s, to prevent cooling.
“I love “24″ but I think the idea that man causes “global warming” is absurd.”
Oh, Econ!! Always so quick with a funny, you are!
Hell, China is drilling off the Coast of Cuba, but we won’t drill of of Florida?

If only Bush had forced drilling off the coast of Florida in his first term, we’d be talking about President Kerry right now.
The earth would not get warm without the sun And the greenhouse gases. Both are necessary.

I wish this global warming thing would hurry up and get here. If we need more SUV’s and coal power plants let’s build them!
I want to grow some palm trees in my backyard, put up my hammock, and make Corona beer commercials.
Stop this nonsense created by the man who created the internet and doper son.
Two Tone — actually, it was Svante Arrhenius and Arvid Högbom, in the 1890’s, who realized that humans could cause global warming.

Well they done a good job. It’s been warming up nicely ever since.Looking forward to it. Need the ocean to rise too. Tired of paying federal dollars to keep rebuilding rich peoples oceanfront property.
