Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee was the big winner in Saturday’s Iowa straw poll, finishing second even though he spent a lot less money than other candidates. Part of his success is that Huckabee is “a candidate of considerable humor who stands apart in this oh-so-serious field of presidential contenders,” the New York Times reported. “Huckabee’s use of humor amounts to a style of politicking that many audiences have found engaging, and that stands out in an era of bloggers and journalists recording a candidate’s slightest slip,” the Times noted, adding that “his humor may go a long way in explaining why he finished ahead of a decidedly more somber Senator Sam Brownback of Kansas.”

Baptist Ministers are known to be witty and a good sense of humor. Governor Huckabee no doubt developed a pretty good one during his pulpit time to wake all the sleeping and snoring congregation. :)
Hey, what’s all this picking on Sam. The poor guy is critized as being a christian crazy, a flat earth guy, no abortions even for rape, never goes to work at the Senate, draws a big paycheck for doing nothing, flip-flops on immigration, and now he’s being called ‘dull’. Well, maybe he’s not much but he’s all Kansas has got. Huh?
Mitt Romney nailed Sam (the Sham) with his “holier than thou” comment about Brownback in the Iowa debate.
It helps to have a sense of humor when your platform could be perceived as uber-uptight-Christian-ness (how does Sam feel about dancing? He hasn’t weighed in on that one).
It seems like all Sam has left is who-is-more-devout contests. Truly pathetic. He is such a waste of time.
delsol, if Sam Brownback is such a waste of time as you’ve stated, then why “waste your time” posting your ridiculous comments?
When is a candidates religous convictions permitted? When asked about Gay Marriage, Hillary Clinton stated her opposition due to her religous beliefs. Slick hair Edwards has given the same response. Obama, speaks in churches. And attends a denomantion that supports Gay Marriage and is pro-abortion. If voters such as yourself support those positions, is it okay for Obama’s faith to play a role in his bid for the White House?
Someone with the biases you express has not or would not find anything good about Sam Brownback.
not impressed – Personally I haven’t really heard anything about or from Sam Brownback other than religious convictions. Most people understand that even politicians are going to have religion in their lives, but that seems to be Sam’s political platform, and I am not comfortable with that in the least.
With all the skeletons in his closet and his pure lack of intelligence, can anyone really take Brownback seriously?
Not impressed, in my opinion a candidate may speak of their religious convictions, but one whose entire platform is based on said is just dangerous (see the middle east for religion run amok in govt)
Plus, unfortunately, we have somehow gotten to a point where an agnostic or atheist candidate would not be considered,as if somehow such a person could not be a good president! I’m sick of the tyranny of the religious right.
What about your biases? Would you vote for a Mormon, a Muslim, a Jew, or an atheist on relgious preference alone?
I for one hope Sam makes it to the GOP nomination table. It would be great for Democrats!

Only if they are conservative.;-)
Oh yeah, Hotdog? You think a conservative atheist or muslim has a chance of getting the Republican nomination?
