Giuliani should not overplay Sept. 11 hand

Rudy Giuliani deserves praise for his leadership on Sept. 11, but he should be careful not to overplay his role. For example, Giuliani had to backtrack from comments he made claiming that he had been at the ruins “as often, if not more” than the cleanup workers. His mayoral archive for the period of Sept. 17 to Dec. 16, 2001, shows that he was there for a total of 29 hours in those three months, while many rescue and recovery workers put in daily 12-hour shifts, the New York Times reported.
I’m currently reading “102 Minutes,” a compelling nonfiction book about the people inside the Twin Towers. It notes how Giuliani scoffed at concerns about locating the city’s Office of Emergency Management in one of the World Trade Center buildings, which had to be evacuated and collapsed. Giuliani also never ordered a joint practice drill with the police and fire departments at the center or followed up on an earlier recommendation to arrange a single radio frequency that police and fire commanders could share during an emergency. A lack of coordination between the two departments significantly hindered the rescue effort.

My, how cute. Funny how laudatory the Times was in 2001. Of course, they cheered the Iraq invasion, too.

I honestly thought Mr. Control Freak handled himself well during the crisis. Now I know why: He wasn’t even there!

Add to that to his wonderful decision to put the command-and-control center in building 7, and we have the well-deserved death of a myth.

But then consider how much mileage BUSH got out of 9-11, for. . uh. . completely failing to predict or prevent it, or bring to justice those responsible, and . . uh. . oh wait a minute, he did stand on some rubble with a microphone.

Rudy didn’t do anything except sit around and let the commanders run the show. And the fact he supplied the FDNY with radios that couldn’t talk to each other and thus pull the fire people out of the towers once it was determined that they would collapse says alot about him. If you don’t think so, ask a NYC firefighter.

    Rage and others,

Indeed. The command and control center in WTCB 7 deserves special attention, because Rudy insisted on it against the strong protests of security experts.

Why did it have to be there? So it would be within walking distance of City Hall. Rudy’s lovenest for his affair with Judith Nathan? Who can say.

What we CAN say is that the unsecured, 6000 gallon fuel tank in the building most likely was a major factor in bringing the building down.

Want to see the REAL Rudy? Here he is, phony claims, debunking and all, in a meticulously researched article from the Village Voice.

Save this link folks. It’s everybody’s task to unmask Rudy Giuliani, the phony.

    Thanks for the link.

However I WANT Guiuliani to get the Republican nomination.

He is probably the one person that Hillary will have no trouble beating.

Organized crime, affairs, divorces, soft on gays, a proven liar etc.

Hillary’s already dealt with all those issues on a national level. Giuliani hasn’t even begun THAT fight.

Yawn…. Thanks CF, for the Rudy hit piece. Ain’t it great that all of these qualified guys are running for the Republican nomination? The liberals don’t know who to gun for.

    Romney/Huckabee 2008. Or Huckabee/Somebody. Ah, who knows.

And isn’t it interesting how the press keeps reporting even today that “Al Gore invented the internet! (giggle, wink)” even though he never said it.

Meanwhile, Rudy’s LIE that he was at Ground Zero more than the EMT’s and firefighters is reported without comment.

    Damn liberal media . . .

C’mon Capn. You can do better than that. He most assuredly did. He misspoke himself to be sure, but it was through his efforts that we have the internet we do today. Do your research Capn.

Guiliani came onto the scene of an accident so he thinks that qualifies him to be President. So if I come across a car accident does that make me qualified to be a paramedic? How about head of the Department of Transportation?

You Libs like to post anti-Bush statements on those story’s that attack your Lib candidates.

So, let’s talk about Hillary Clinton.

I’m sure she would be much stronger on National Defense then Giuliani or any other Republican.

Though they are both New Yorkers. (Right!)

What is Hillary’s defense policy? FLIP FLOP.

And here is Hillary’s health care plan.

    http://www.hillaryclinton.com/files/pdf/healthcarecosts.pdf

Not as funny as other articles written by Hillary – such as the Saul Alinsky thesis, but the writing errors are about the same, as well as the lack of any logic or supporting details.

Look’s like a High School Senior wrote this thing!

So, let’s talk about Hillary Clinton.Posted by: Max | August 21, 2007 at 12:47 PM

    Sure.

I predict Hillary will run against George W Bush in 2008, and win. The actual Republic candidate will be irrelevant. In fact, the actual Republic candidate will help Mrs. Clinton in her campaign efforts.

Moreover, I predict the Republic candidate will ALSO run against Bush, as well as Hillary, and lose. He will lose because he will be wearing a big ass ol’ albatross around his neck, aka Augustus Stupidus. If he tries to shed the albatross, he helps Hillary. But he must shed the albatross, which will not exactly be interpreted as an “upbeat, optimistic” campaign by his base. They will encourage him to keep the albatross, to take pride in his albatross, which will help Hillary. If he succeeds in shedding his albatross, he will also succeed in shedding his base.

Kinda has a nice ring, don’t it? President Clinton, aahhhhh.

    Next?

I will concede, however, that this is a surefire campaign strategy for any Democrat candidate.

If they’re smart, they’ll just run against Augustus Stupidus. They do not need to run against the actual Republic candidate. That is unnecessary.

So it’s not exclusive to Mrs. Clinton.

Max, I wonder why you assume liberals are automatically supportive of Hillary for President. Heck, I wonder why a thread about Guiliani should include a discussion about Hillary. Perhaps it’s too obvious that Rudy is a lousy candidate.

A better question is which candidate from either party can lead us through the financial train wreck that is about to occur? The markets are all treading water and the dollar continues to weaken. Who is going to lead us through the minefield that Bush is leaving behind? Iraq is important, sure. But without a true leader, what we are about to experience will make the Great Depression look like summer camp. Anyone with any thoughts?

I have a thought. As a nation we should spend less than we earn. If we pay our national debt down to $1 trillion, we will be paying less interest on our debt and have enough borrowing power to strengthen the dollar as needed and enough liquidity to smooth out market fluctuations.

Spend less than we earn? No, that would be too simple. Voters will never go for it. Not as long as politicians promise to pay for everything with tax cuts.

Or taxes on “those other people”

  26. Posted August 21, 2007 at 5:45 pm | Permalink

It’s funny how the government works. When taxes go up government spending goes down and vice versa. Rethuglicans want tax cuts so they can increase the size of government. Naturally spending goes down when people realize they are actually paying for something and not taking it out on credit to be paid for by someone else.

A fiscally conservative Republican is an oxymoron.

“A better question is which candidate from either party can lead us through the financial train wreck that is about to occur?”

Mike: An excellent question that Americans should be thinking about. Now I don’t necessarily agree that we are headed for financial problems, but what if we were? Who is the best person to lead our nation?

It would need to be someone with financial knowledge. Who has taken grim situations in the past and turned them around. Someone with innovative ideas that allow government and the private sector to complement each other. In those terms Mitt Romney is head and shoulders above the rest. He earned his fortune with Bain Capital (investment banking), took over the Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City when the effort was a shambles and turned it into a big success, and as governor of Massachusetts developed the health insurance program that has every person in the state insured without increasing outlays.

Romney could be the guy. It’s early though. Fred Thompson, Huckabee, are other early favorites of mine.

What is certain is we need to clean house in Congress.

Every incumbent up for re-election, Democrat and Republican, needs to be voted out in 2008.

It takes 3 branches of government to make government work for the people. And none of the branches are doing their jobs right now.
