Dogfight? AG Morrison to the rescue

Kansas Attorney General Paul Morrison recently burnished his tough-guy image by taking on a Doberman. That’s right — a Topeka woman said her Labrador retriever was being viciously attacked by a Doberman pinscher when a truck pulled over and Morrison stepped out. He managed to separate the dogs.
The owner was grateful. “I mean, what other attorney generals in their states just stop in some neighborhood when they see something going on?” she asked.

I’m a bit surprised Morrison didn’t use the following related story in his campaign last year:

Morrison gives chase in this run of bad luck, Kansas City Star,June 3, 2003

The teenage burglary suspect was still gasping for air when he got a backyard legal lecture from one of the two men who chased him down.

“Son, you just committed a Level 5 person felony,” said the man, Paul Morrison.

As the Johnson County district attorney, he knows a lot about such things.

The impromptu workout Sunday capped an otherwise quiet 49th birthday for Morrison, who sprinted barefoot through several yards in his western Lenexa neighborhood before the 16-year-old suspect gave up.

“Not bad for an old man,” Morrison said Monday.

He and his wife, Joyce, were driving through the neighborhood about 8 p.m. when Morrison noticed a car parked along the curb with its passenger door open. As he drove past, he exchanged waves with the young man in the driver’s seat.

Seconds later, he heard a woman scream and saw another young man run from the woman’s open garage carrying a 12-pack of Coors Light beer.

The young man in the car sped away, and his companion dropped the beer and ran down the street.

Morrison turned his pickup around and followed the suspect. The youth cut between two houses, but his bad luck continued: One of the homes belonged to Morrison and the other to Garold Sokolenko, 27, an avid mountain biker.

Sokolenko said he was sitting on his porch enjoying the sunset when Morrison pulled up and yelled that he was chasing a burglar. Morrison got out of his truck, kicked off his sandals and started running after the teen.

Sokolenko, with Morrison close behind, was gaining on the young man when he heeded their shouts to stop. He didn’t struggle and sat between the two men as they waited for police. Lenexa police arrested a second youth, 17, later Sunday.

On Monday, the two teens were charged in the juvenile division of Johnson County District Court with burglary, theft and possession of alcohol. A judge ordered them held on house arrest pending their next court appearances.

“It’s a stupid juvenile prank, but it’s also very serious,” Morrison said. “Hopefully they’ll learn a lesson.”

If Ag Morrison is a real “tough guy” let’s see him get off his candy ass and deal with the vile corruption in the Sedgwick County Kansas Judicial and county system…by the way AG Morrison,to quote the boxing & wrestling productions,ANY TIME,ANYWEHRE,the evidence is ample to bring to justice the criminals dressed as government & court officials of Sedgwick County Kansas!

Stopping a doberman does not compare to dealing with the robed criminals in SG county,is he man enough to do that?

Apparently the publicity seeking hotdog would make a good dog catcher.

    Speaking of the AG’s office…

I wonder what happened to the AG’s investigation of corruption in WaKeeney and Trego County? Sure is quiet after all the pre-election hoopla about a special investigation, special prosecutor, etc.

All the hearings were held, but no results ever released. Can you say whitewash? SURELY it has nothing to do with the “special” prosecutor being the Trego County Attorney’s best friend and former campaign manager? And a democrat?

I’m disappointed Paul. I thought you loathed corruption.

    Whitewash.

hehehehe. I guess they must be too afraid to issue a statement exhonorating the guilty, and they are too corrupt to publish the truth about the elected officials in the City of WaKeeney and Trego County.

Nice way to start a new law enforcement era. Pre-election publicity, big show of hearings, and then?

    (crickets chirping)

If no wrong doing was found, say so. But then, the lies would be oh so public….

How interesting. First he’s beaten up for being a publicity hound for doing the RIGHT thing and happening to be at the right place.

I wonder what the board would do if he were found to just be watching or driving on by?

    Hypocrites.

However, I’m dismayed that KFG hasn’t heard more about her investigation. Perhaps he’s just taking a long time. You know, he had all that work on the Tiller case to do.
