Report: Al-Qaida back to full strength

According to top intelligence officials, al-Qaida has regroupedin the border area of Pakistan and is now at the same level of operational strength it was prior to the Sept. 11 attacks. Maybe that’s why Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff referred this week to a "gut feeling" that al-Qaida was poised to strike again.
President Bush said at a news conference today that al-Qaida has been hurt by his war on terrorism and is "weaker today than they would have been" otherwise. But Bush’s anti-terrorism strategy has bogged U.S. forces down in Iraq and Afghanistan, allowing Osama bin Laden and those who attacked us on Sept. 11 a safe haven from which to plan and launch new attacks.

Thank you Randy – that’s just what we have been saying all along – It’s not at all that we are against war in general, in fact MANY feel that afghanistan is where our troops belong. It’s that we feel the war in Iraw is a mistake, we should never have gone there, and now look what it has gotten us – Yeah right, Bush, the war on terror is working – in your dreams maybe… how would you know how strong Al Queda is now anyways, since you don’t worry about Bin Laden (the leader) and don’t think about him anymore?

Al Qaeda has shown themselves to be the limp organ of the Muslim persuasion. The fact they are hiding in the mountains of Pakistan demonstrates their impotence to influence outside of a 100 mile range.

Only the copy cat Al Qaeda groups are making headway in other countries and even they are showing gross incompetence that even a common criminal would be ashamed to be associated with.

Randy Scholfield needs a new scope on his journalistic rifle – his is obscured with myopic opinion.

How long has it been since Bin Laden made any videos? I have to wonder if the story about him dying isn’t true. He has been strangely quiet for some time now.

Even if he is dead, that may not have much impact on the danger of Al Qaeda.

Al Quidas as well as the Talibans plan was to hide out in the mountains of Afghanistan and Pakistan for five years after the invasion of Afghanistan by the US. They were then going to reinsert themselves back into the frey, and attempt to drive the US out of Afghanistan, as well as restart the terrorism campaign throughout the world.

Guess what? The five years are up, and they are starting to do what they indicated they would do five years ago. The threat is real, and could have been brought under control if it wasn’t for the failed policies of this administration.

    Sol,

you are right, it WAS a typo. And ironically true typo. I just get so tired of people like KHAHN or whatever the hell it is that he is calling himself now (i’ve lost track, how many nicknames has it been?) claiming that anyone who does not support the Iraq war doesn’t support this country, the soldier, etc so on and so forth. It is far from the truth, and the sad reality is that had we concentrated on the so-called war on terror (although I still also dispute how successful a war on a base ideal can be… shouldn’t it be the war on terrorists?) then we wouldn’t be facing an Al-Queda with the strength it had prior to 9/11… likely we wouldn’t be facing an Al-queda with significant strength at all – and let’s get real, who is the REAL threat to the US? Who has ACTUALLY ATTACKED the US on MORE than one occasion? Last time I checked, it wasn’t Saddam Hussein or the Iraqi people… remind me again how that who debacle fell under the “War on Terror”?

  9. Posted July 12, 2007 at 2:55 pm | Permalink

Again there is brian leading the way by cheer-leading the deaths of others to prove his point. Perhaps brian seeks more press coverage on war dead so he can benefit from more Blog points.

Guess what Stumpy, five years and Al Qaeda has been held in check in Afghanistan. Their leaders are hiding, they have to live in holes and their money supply is dwindling. But I guess Stumpy wants to join the brian cheer-leading club on using deaths of others as their main talking points.

How do you know what Saudi Arabia does with their billions? Held in check? Did you forget the London bombings? Planned, trained, and staged from Pakistan.

I say again, why on earth would I trust Republicans with national security, when they make up their own facts?

This report is a total lie because the Bush administration says all of Al-Quada is in Iraq. They can’t possibly be in Pakistan because Pakistan is our ally and we totally won in Afghanistan that’s why we didn’t need so many soldiers there.

It seems victory and the WMD are hiding in the same place, Bush’s imagination.

Well, just as predicted, the Bush Administration’s feckless disregard for real threats has brought about an Al Qaeda resurgence. Big surprise. They never cared about terrorist threats and still don’t. The state of perpetual war works to their advantage, and they know it. Chertoff’s ‘gut feeling,’ anyone?

And given their stated intention to play Mideast Divide and Conquer by pitting Sunni against Shia, Al Qaeda actually counts as a U.S. ally in the larger struggle.

    http://www.countercurrents.org/hallinan280407.htm

The fact that the Administration kept the gloves on and let the senior leadership of Al Qaeda get away may have seemed like lunacy at the time (still does to CF2K). But it makes sense (admittedly, a twisted and backwards kind of “sense”) in light of the Administration’s attempt to add a chapter to the Imperialist “Great Game” of Mideast Divide and Conquer.

Bush loves Al Qaeda. They’re his natural ally against the Shia, and a rallying cry for his internal constituencies. He needs them almost as much as they need him.

  20. Posted July 12, 2007 at 3:38 pm | Permalink

Huh? Bush/Cheney says the al-Qaida guys are weaker now because of him. Our intelligence (?) guys say they are stronger. Chertoff, (the gut guy) says the boogieman is coming. I think somebody’s doing something to me, and I’m not getting kissed.

Anyone that has been around military aircraft knows the difference between a show run and tactical/strategic air maneuvers of fighter aircraft to know that low flying jet sound isn’t a practice maneuver for combat.

It works like this, you hear something – not really sure what that sound is,

    - the earth explodes around you

    - next you hear the sound of afterburners in the distance as the jet fighter is already miles way from you and you never even saw it.

Noteworthy just this year:June 17, 2007 — A bomb rips through a bus carrying police instructors in Kabul, killing 35 people and wounding 35.

May 20, 2007 — A suicide bomber kills 14 people in a crowded market in the eastern city of Gardez.

May 19, 2007 — A suicide bomber detonates himself next to German soldiers in Kunduz, killing three soldiers and seven civilians.

Feb. 27, 2007 — A suicide bomber kills 23 people outside the main U.S. base at Bagram Air Field during a visit by U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney

Stratfor, the independent intelligence analysis sight with close links to the military and intelligence community, came out with an article a few days ago saying that al-Qaeda was essentially a dozen guys in cave somewhere in northwest Pakistan with no command and control structure whatsoever.

The Iraqi elements of ‘al-Qaeda’ simply make the claim they are ‘al-Qaeda.’ Bin-Laden, realizing this props up his cause and what is left of his organization in the eyes of the world at large, endorses such claims even even though these Iraqi elements have never had any relationship with Bin-Laden or his core group holed up in the mountains.

Considering the massive military presence in Afghanistan, Iraq and Pakistan, this certainly seems to make sense.

That does not mean there are not plenty of people willing to sacrifice their lives for the Moslem cause. After all, look what we have done to their contries. But they are not the seemingl ubiquitous ‘al-Qaeda’

Saddam is gone and they need to develop ‘al-Qaeda as the big bogeyman, now.

The Stratfor intelligence reports, including this recent one on who and what ‘al-Qaeda’ really is, are available in their free E-mail reports.
