    Farmgrrl,

Do you think the stalker will arrive in a “black Escalade?” Or my bet: a 1985 Ford Escort with the door panels rusted out.

Does anyone besides me think the bankrupcy of WILD WEST WORLD is a premonition of what is to come for the PROPOSED WHITE ELEPHANT DOWNTOWN ARENA?

The big difference, of course, is that the downtown arena being an ill-advised county government project will be an albatross around Sedgwick County taxpayers’ necks and will be subsidized for years for humongous operating costs, parking facilities, utility expenses for heating, air conditioning, ice preparation, several $75,000 Zambonies, glass breakage insurance, staff, management fees, etc.

Of course, the people who are currently enjoying making the decisions about the arena, choosing the colors, size of seats, etc. will mostly be gone by the time the arena opens and starts bleeding money.

Local school districts and colleges shouldn’t be called upon to support the downtown arena … this would drain their operational money from their education mission and dry up contributions from the public.

At least, Thomas Ethridge lived his dream through mostly private investors.

I believe two problems exist for these so-called recreational venues, public or private. One is the ticket cost when applied to large families.

#2 is the TIME factor. Everybody I talk to adults and students have trouble finding time to do everything they want or need to do. I have a list that I am not getting done. I want to research several subjects to write reports/stories for various publications. The last thing I need is government trying to make me feel guilty about not supporting yet another “recreational venue.”

We need to get our elected officials back to the basics of improving sewers, water supply, roadways, bridges, etc. In a very few years, the I-135 reinforced concrete flyover entering Wichita from the north to Kellogg will have to be remodeled if not replaced … millions of dollars!

Hopefully, hold-over county commissioners, Dave Unruh, Tom Winters and Tim Norton will find other jobs in the near future to allow Sedgwick County to once again be productive.

Today’s Bush Family Evil Empire: Scandal Du Jour is short but not sweet.

Turns out that the man in charge of enforcing our nation’s law has committed a FELONY by telling Harriet Mieres to ignore her subpoena.

18 U.S.C. Sec. 1505 : … Whoever corruptly … influences, obstructs, or impedes … the due and proper exercise of the power of inquiry under which any inquiry or investigation is being had by either House, or any committee of either House or any joint committee of the Congress … shall be fined under this title, or imprisoned not more than 5 years … or both

18 U.S.C. Sec. 1515(b): As used in section 1505, the term “corruptly” means acting with an improper purpose, personally or by influencing another, including … withholding, or concealing … information.

But that’s what it means to be Bush–one set of laws for him and another for the rest of us.

This has been your BFEE: Scandal Du Jour.

Wrong Capn. The Mieres matter is a dispute between the Dems in Congress and the President. Executive privilege is being claimed. And I’m sure attorney-client privilege as well.

outlander, I think you are correct about the dispute being between two co-equal branches of government. I agree Executive Privilege is being claimed. The claim of Executive Privilege does not excuse Ms Meirs’ attendance at the committee, notwithstanding Mr. Bush’s directions to the contrary. Thus, facially, it would seem the criminal statutes cited by Capn America would be applicable.

IIRC, Ms Meirs is no longer an employee of the federal government, and I would submit that the President has no lawful authority to order her to not attend.

To my mind, the correct way to conduct this would be for her to attend, be sworn, and then refuse to answer on the basis that the President has asserted Executive Privilege. For her to not attend, of course, subjects her to Contempt of Congress charges.

Reminds me of the story about Ewing Kaufman’s (sp?) beginning in the business world. Of course, later Mr. Kaufman owned the Kansas City Royals and his company, Marion Laboratories (named after his wife), became Marion Merrill Dow Pharmaceutical Company, a highly successful company based in Kansas City with hundreds if not thousands of employees.

In the early 1960’s, Ewing and his wife would drive to a seashore to collect sea shells which they took back to Kansas City. They ground the shells in the basement of their modest house to make calcium pills to sell locally to friends. As the business began to grow, Ewing needed money to finance the growth so he asked a number of friends to give him $1,000 “on a handshake” as I recall the story.

Over the next several years, he paid his friends back making them all millionaires for having trust in him.

    Some dreams succeed, some fail.

Also reminds me of that old Theodore Roosevelt quotation something to the effect the credit belongs to the man who tries, fails but tries again until he succeeds. Note this quotation doesn’t apply to government bureaucrats who try and try again with your tax monies.

I’m still working on minature glowing orange plastic statues of Earl Browder, west Wichita’s dapper favorite son who was twice nominated for President of the United States on American Communist Party tickets, in 1936 and 1940 as I recall.

Does this sound familiar: “From the taxes and bone grinding hard work of the many according to their abilities … to the few according to their needs.”

Maybe we can erect a larger glowing orange plastic Earl Browder statue in front of the downtown arena with the notation, “Built with the ideals of Earl Browder, Wichita favorite son.”

ReplagiarCon lies and then he lies about lying. He can’t even keep all his lies straight.

You ask him about some lie he posted a few months prior, and he has to google himself to see what he said.

The only thing I would believe from ReplagiarCon is if he posted: “I am a liar.”

    That I would buy.

  31. Posted July 12, 2007 at 10:41 am | Permalink

    Sol,

Here’s the thing: I don’t believe a single word the troll has ever typed about its physical condition. If the troll was truly injured while wearing the uniform, then it deserves a small amount of compassion.

But just in case you’ve missed it, yesterday the troll threatened to stalk Farmgrrl and I, and threatened to use its “influence” with the “State of Kansas” to harm me personally.

Overnight, the troll spewed on several threads garbage about “anal gerbil stuffing.”

Quite frankly, Sol, several of us are fed up with the troll’s nasty attacks. The troll knows mine and Farmgrrl’s names, probably knows our home addresses (mine is easily found on the internet, as is Farmgrrl’s), and he’s threatening to “show up.”

Farmgrrl doesn’t fear him, nor do I. But if he’s going to attack, attack, attack, he’s going to get some in return. I’m sorry you see some other motive there.

It’s neither a lie nor a dodge. I stated earlier this morning that I don’t believe the troll is mentally ill – I think the troll is just a jackass. I also don’t believe the troll’s “war stories.” So what we’re left with is this: I’m mocking a person I think to be a jackass and a liar, not a mentally ill, war-wounded cripple.

McClatchy, which owns the Wichita Eagle is falling faster than a nickel down a gutter.

” Its first-quarter profits were down by a whopping 67 percent, and last Thursday, April 26, Standard & Poor’s slashed McClatchy bonds down to a BB-plus rating, which is considered to be junk.

By last Friday morning shares of McClatchy were traded at prices between $28.80 and $29.63, closing at $29.29 after a day of heavy trading. $28.80 is the lowest price for McClatchy since Feb. 1999.”

The stock as of July 12 is almost $3.00 lower than Aprils all time low stock.

So the McClatchy stock is lower than Junk Bond status now. It is Junk Bond -3.

Everyone needs an investment counselor including minimum wage earners. If you don’t think you need one, then you are probably spending your money on useless crap and leaving yourself in a hole each and every month.

Banks and insurance agents often offer free investment advice. There are many other free advice services all over, one just has to look. Some take a small monthly fee to give advice in exchange for you investing through their service.

Anyone who doesn’t take advantage of investment counseling is probably the typical American deep in credit card debt and on their third mortgage.

“The economy has been chugging along recession-free for more than six years, but it is now roaring down the track. Economic output grew 5.6 percent in the first quarter, the strongest performance since 1987, the Government said last week. The momentum carried over into April, pushing the unemployment rate down to 4.9 percent, the lowest rate in 24 years.

Remarkably, inflation has remained contained. But with the jobless rate so low, employers will likely raise wages to attract workers, putting upward pressure on prices. The result will almost certainly be more interest rate increases from the Federal Reserve to cool things down. RICHARD W. STEVENSON “

Let’s compare the United States unemployment figures with the much touted Euro market shall we?

“On July 6, 2007, The Bureau Of Labor Statistics Released New Jobs Figures – 132,000 Jobs Created In June. Since August 2003, more than 8.2 million jobs have been created, with more than 2 million jobs created over the twelve months ending in June. Our economy has now added jobs for 46 straight months, and the unemployment rate remains low at 4.5 percent.”

“Eurozone unemployment hits record low of 7.0 pct03 July 2007, 11:39 CET

(BRUSSELS) – The unemployment rate in the 13 nations sharing the euro extended its gradual decline in May, falling to a record low of 7.0 percent, official EU figures showed on Tuesday.

The rate, which the European Union’s Eurostat data agency adjusted to take seasonal variations into account, is the lowest on Eurostat’s books going back to 1993.

It marked a slight fall from a rate of 7.1 percent reported for April and a steady descent from the 7.9 percent registered for April 2006.

Long a major headache for eurozone politicians, unemployment has gradually drifted lower since peaking at 8.9 percent at the end of 2004 as the economy gathers pace.

In the 27-nation EU as a whole, unemployment also eased to 7.0 percent in May from 7.1 percent in April and 8.0 percent in May 2006.

Eurostat estimated that 10.4 million workers were out of jobs in May in the eurozone and 16.4 million were out of work in the EU.”

    Posted July 12, 2007 at 3:43 pm | Permalink

The way the deal went down, according to usually reliable informants, if you get my meaning, is this:

When the caper started—the going to the mattresses with the Mustache Pete way out East—Chainsaw Dick calls in the Scooter man, his top earner, and tells him to go out and sell the operation. It’s important, he says. The future of the Family depends on it.

So ol’ Scooter, he starts selling and does a heckuva job, on account of people trust him so much. Hey, you seen the guy. Would Scooter lie?

He does such a good job that even “The New York Times” is in bed with us, you believe that?

So when the caper begins to go sour (which is because not enough muscle was assigned to the project, in my opinion) the vultures, including “The New York Times,” begin jumping all over the Boss. Even Chainsaw Dick starts to get heat. Shoulda done this, Shoulda done that; woulda, coulda, shoulda.

They even got the nerve to accuse the Boss of lying about a few minor details, like he’s supposed to know everything about everything.

This makes Chainsaw mad—you know how he is—so he sends his crew out to take care of the bozos who are all the time criticizing, including one bozo’s wife who is a blonde I would not turn away from my door in a snowstorm, if you know what I mean. We ain’t talking about sleeping with no fishes here, just a little character assassination, teach ‘em a lesson.

Naturally, Scooter being Scooter, he is the point man on this and, like always, he does a heckuva job. When all of a sudden the linguini hits the fan and before you know it Scooter—the Chainsaw’s right-hand guy—is in front of a grand jury, looking at criminal charges. For messing with a reputation! What they think this is, beanbag?

Anyway, this all makes people back at the Ba-Da-Bing on Pennsylvania Avenue a little nervous. There is talk, even, of bringing Crazy Boy Liddy out of retirement to whack the Scooter. The Chainsaw says no. The Scooter is a standup guy, he says, and will not rat us out. In effect, he vouches for him, so what ya gonna do?

But pretty soon, the Scooter man is indicted and his mouthpieces are talking about calling Chainsaw as a witness. In court. I mean can you imagine the Chainsaw up there on the witness stand taking the Fifth? It would be undignified.

So now the Boss’s capi are really nervous. Are you sure Scooter is not going to rat us out, they keep asking.

Chainsaw, he just gives them that look, you know the one. “I’ll have someone talk to Scooter’s lawyers,” he says. “I will make them an offer they can’t refuse.” Discussion over.

And pretty soon, what do you know, you don’t hear nothing more about the Chainsaw man being called to testify.

So they have their little trial and Scooter, he can’t remember anything, and the jury, which it turns out we can’t get to, says “guilty” and the judge, who apparently never wants to be on the Supreme Court, drops 30 small on our friend Scooter.

This, we all agree, is a bad situation. It’s one thing to be a standup guy when you’re out on bail; it’s another when you’re in the joint (although I have to admit, some of the fed joints aren’t so bad. I learned to play checkers in one of ‘em.)

However, just as Scooter is about to go inside the Boss steps in and commutes his sentence, which I didn’t even know he could do unless he had a good reason.

So Scooter walks, his bills get paid by a person or persons unknown and Halliburton or some outfit like that gets a new executive.

Is that a happy ending or what?

Like I always said, it pays to have Family values.

Note the last sentence in this report: .02 blood alcohol level. I think that’s about a half-can of Bud Light. Where was the designated driver here?

Associated Press (07-06) 11:35 PDT Orange Beach, Ala. (AP) –Police who chased a car for miles along a highway at speeds up to 100 mph said the driver was drunk, hardly a rarity in this resort town. But there was more: When they looked inside the flipped vehicle with guns drawn, they found an 11-year-old girl at the wheel.”You go up there thinking it’s a felon you’re dealing with,” assistant police Chief Greg Duck said. The girl, who was slightly injured in the crash, is now charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, speeding, reckless endangerment and leaving the scene of an accident. Duck said she sideswiped another vehicle during the roughly 8-mile chase. The chase began around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday when a patrol officer near the Florida line saw the car speeding west along a beach highway, Duck said. When the officer flicked on his lights, the driver sped up. The girl rolled the car just inside the Gulf Shores city limit.Duck said the girl, whose name was not released because of her age, told police she was on her way to pick up her sister at a concert.Investigators found no alcohol in the car but believe the girl drank before getting behind the wheel of the car, which belongs to relatives.Duck declined to release the girl’s blood alcohol level but said a blood test at the hospital showed it was higher than .02, the legal limit for minors.

(07-03) 17:34 PDT Lansing, Mich. (AP) –A state forensics scientist who said she tested DNA in her husband’s underwear to find out whether he was cheating could be disciplined if investigators determine she violated the use of state equipment.Ann Chamberlain-Gordon of Okemos testified in a March 7 divorce hearing that she ran the test in September on the underwear of Charles Gordon Jr. Asked by his attorney what she found, she answered: “Another female. It wasn’t me.”She also said during a May 25 hearing in Ingham County Family Court that she ran the test on her own time with chemicals that were set to be thrown away.Michigan State Police, which oversees the Lansing forensics lab where Chamberlain-Gordon works, started to investigate her after her husband’s attorney wrote to authorities and media outlets questioning how many times DNA tests have been improperly run.Investigators expect to decide by next week what they found. Her duties have not been restricted during the investigation, state police spokeswoman Shanon Akans said Tuesday.”We don’t know exactly what was or wasn’t done,” Akans said.State police policies on the care and use of property say “department supplies, materials or equipment shall not be used for any non-duty or non-department purpose.”A request for comment was left Tuesday with Chamberlain-Gordon.Charles Gordon’s attorney, Michael Maddaloni, said Tuesday that his client disputed his wife’s testimony that he acknowledged a sexual encounter with another woman after she found the female DNA on his underwear.Gordon played with the Canadian Football League as a defensive back from the early 1990s through 1997.Chamberlain-Gordon received the award for Outstanding Contribution to the Michigan State Police Biological Services in 2006 for her research and method development in embryonic and fetal DNA recovery, according to Forensic Science Consultants Inc., which lists her among its workers.Chamberlain-Gordon has worked for the state police as a forensic scientist since 1999 and supervised the biology unit in 2005, according to the company’s Web site. She has given expert testimony in more than 50 cases, including at a widely publicized trial last year in the death of a boy slain by his adoptive parents.

“I THOUGHT those ribs tasted funny”

(07-05) 06:46 PDT BRUSSELS, Belgium (AP) –Police detained a man in eastern Belgium after a dinner guest found the bodies of the host’s wife and stepson in a freezer, authorities said Thursday. The female guest opened the freezer while helping to clear up after a dinner with a group of friends Tuesday at the man’s home in the city of Verviers, 78 miles east of Brussels, said Christine Wilwerth of the city prosecutor’s office.”It was a lady who at the end of the meal at a friend’s house, and after washing the dishes … decided to take the leftovers of the meal down to the basement to store in the deep freeze,” Wilwerth said. “Once she opened the deep freeze, she discovered the bodies.”Guests alerted police, who identified the bodies of the man’s wife and her 12-year-old son. The bodies appeared to have been kept in the deep freeze for several weeks.Wilwerth said the suspect acknowledged that a domestic quarrel had escalated and his wife had been stabbed, but she said he had not explained the circumstances of the child’s death.

Today the liberals are all over the report that Al Qaeda is back up to strength. Another shot to bash Bush. Funny, no one is questioning this same intelligence service which gave us WMD’s in Iraq.

“Actually, I have been doing pretty good even during the Bush recession.

    Thanks for your concern.

The only thing I feel guilty about is that I didn’t do more to make sure Worst. President. Ever. hadn’t been selected.”

Actually what Capn meant to say was:

Capn: “Wow, I didn’t realize the Dow closed at all time high today.”

Capn: “Thank you for the reality instead of my Chomsky guided wet dreams.”

Capn: “The only thing I feel guilty about is that I didn’t do MIchael Moore.”

uh, Kaeb – this intelligence DIDN’T give us WMD’s in Iraq – Bush pulled em out BEFORE they had a chance to furnish their report, by claiming they had found WMD’s, which indeed they had not, nor did they ever claim too… nice try…

Giluani’s swift boat is on fire.Relatives of firefighters blast Giuliani By COLLEEN LONG, Associated Press WriterWed Jul 11, 11:10 PM ET

NEW YORK – Relatives of firefighters killed at the World Trade Center reproached GOP presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani in a video Wednesday, pairing footage of the falling twin towers with charges the city’s former mayor was woefully unprepared for Sept. 11.

ADVERTISEMENTThe parents and siblings of some of the 343 firefighters killed in the terrorist attacks released the video with the International Association of Fire Fighters, which opposes Giuliani’s candidacy.

Giuliani’s campaign denounced the images, saying that the former mayor had a long history of supporting firefighters’ health and safety and that the international union releasing the video only supports Democratic presidential candidates.

Fire union officials and family members, repeating claims they had made for months, charged Giuliani pushed for a faster cleanup of ground zero at the expense of finding remains, put an emergency center in a building that collapsed on Sept. 11 and failed to provide working radios for firefighters, making it impossible for them to learn the towers were on the verge of collapse.

“Virtually the whole thing goes back to him with the radios,” Jim Riches, a deputy fire chief whose son was killed on Sept. 11, says in the video. “He’s the guy on the top, and he’s the guy you yell at.

“He takes the hit. And my son is dead because of it.”

Giuliani’s camp called the video a “mockumentary.” Giuliani campaign spokesman Michael McKeon said the union leadership “makes Michael Moore look like Edward R. Murrow.”

Former New York firefighter Lee Ielpi, whose son died on Sept. 11, and former Office of Emergency Management Commissioner Richard Sheirer appeared at a news conference with McKeon, calling the video a “disgrace” and saying it is full of “half-truths.”

Ielpi disputed claims made in the tape that workers searching for remains were pulled from the rubble, arguing that Giuliani allowed some workers to return. Similarly, Sheirer said it wasn’t the radios that didn’t work but rather a high-rise signal transmission system that didn’t work in one of the towers but worked “perfectly” in the other tower, until it crashed to the ground.

“I was there. I saw it. I experienced it,” said Ielpi, who worked at ground zero for the nine-month cleanup. “I’m not going to let lies like this go.”

But the general president of the International Association of Fire Fighters, Harold Schaitberger, said that Giuliani is opposed by firefighters on both sides of the aisle.

“Giuliani’s biggest problem is that this video is a bipartisan condemnation of his record on 9/11,” Schaitberger said.

The 13-minute video was being distributed to the union’s 280,000 members, to the news media and online.

It includes statements from leaders of the city’s two largest firefighter unions, who say Giuliani became rich and famous on his image as a post-Sept. 11 hero while ignoring firefighters’ needs.

“This image of Rudy Giuliani as America’s mayor, it’s a myth,” said Steve Cassidy, president of the Uniformed Firefighters Association, which represents about 9,000 firefighters.

Cassidy said that his union supported George Bush in the last election and had supported George Pataki for governor of New York.

“It’s not about Republicans, it’s about this Republican,” he said.

Peter Gorman, president of the Uniformed Fire Officers Association, says in the video that Giuliani’s image is more important to him than the needs of firefighters.

“He’s making millions, tens of millions of dollars on the backs of my members, as far as I’m concerned,” he says.
