No perfect men among GOP candidates

“If a voter is looking for Jesus on the Republican ticket, they’re not going to find him. There was only one perfect man, and all others have fallen short. They should look at how a candidate dealt with his moral failures.” — Gary Bauer, former Reagan staffer and 2000 GOP presidential candidate, reflecting on the revelation that Sen. David Vitter (in photo), R-La., was a client of the “D.C. Madam.”

Republicans wouldn’t vote for Jesus if he ran. Seriously, would Jesus support tax cuts for the rich, oppose health care, approve of torture and unnecessary war? Well, Jesus varies with every self-proclaimed Christian.

This article is from the May/June 2005 issue of Dollars & Sense magazine.

The president completed a tour to spread fear over the financial solvency of the Social Security system and promote his multi trillion tax dollar plan to allow workers to divert nearly a third of the 12.4% Social Security payroll tax into private investment accounts. Wall Street will rake in the dough in a monster way.

At a stump speech in West Virginia in early April, Bush pointed to a filing cabinet stuffed with paper representing government IOUs and said, “A lot of people in America think there is a trust–that we take your money in payroll taxes and then we hold it for you and then when you retire, we give it back to you. But that’s not the way it works. There is no trust ‘fund’–just IOUs.…” On April 28, Bush proposed indexing high-income workers’ benefits to inflation, a move he described as “progressive.” If these and other administration statements about Social Security leave you scratching your head, you’re not alone.

With all the fear-mongering falsehoods flying around, it can be difficult to separate fact from fiction. Below, Doug Orr helps D&S readers do just this, with clear, at times surprising, answers to many common Social Security-related questions. Congress is expected to vote on Social Security “reform” in June. –Eds.

Has the president actually lied to the public about Social Security?

Yes. President Bush has repeatedly said that those who put their money in private accounts are “guaranteed” a better return than they’ll receive from the current Social Security system. But every sale of stock on the stock market includes the disclaimer: “the return on this investment is not guaranteed and may be negative”–for good reason. During the 20th century, there were several periods lasting more than 10 years where the return on stocks was negative.

This BUSHCO group cannot stop a crash if it is in fact about to be. Social Security checks will come in handy as ENRON and Savings and Loan victims discovered.

The average stock market return per decade is 10.5% ANNUALLY. That means you would more than double your money each decade, not counting additional contributions. It is a long term investment subject to ups and downs but over time is a big winner.

People are missing out opportunity if they are not in the stock market. And the ability to put some of a portion of social security contributions into the market would have been a great opportunity for younger folks.

Sure! Just ignore all the scandal-laden republican news! Remember that nobody is perfect!

You know, I actually agree with that, however, the republicans are the ones who claim such moral authority, and the hypocricy is what gets me. The rest of us already KNEW you guys were crooked. While the dems say “hey, people make mistakes’ the republicans want harsh punishment for those who AREN’T republicans but really hate it when the sentences come back down on them.

That’s ok, they know Bush will give em all a pardon.

    Max,

“If a voter is looking for Jesus on the Republican ticket, they’re not going to find him.” — Gary Bauer

Leave it to Gary Bauer to state openly that Republicans are looking for their version of Jesus to suddenly declare his candidacy for President of the United States. Leave it to Gary Bauer to, without even realizing it, identify what’s wrong with the current Republican Party: It believes it, and only it, is divinely inspired to rule this nation.

You don’t see Democrats making such outrageous claims.

  12. Posted July 16, 2007 at 8:36 am | Permalink

And here’s another quote from the same linked article, one that sums things up better than the Bauer quote:

“It’s the hypocrisy that people can’t stand,” said Michael Cromartie, a social conservative himself who chaired the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom under President Bush. “It’s not the fact that people are frail and given to sinful behavior. It’s when they try to pretend to be morally upright and end up being self-righteous because they preach one thing and live another.”

Be careful what you boast of. Folks will remember it. And THESE asswipes think they are morally superior to gay folks who want to be married?

What hypocrisy – when it is a Republican, Mr. Bauer wants to forgive and forget. If this had been a Democrat, he would have called for his head on a platter.

The measure of a man is what he will tolerate. Obviously Mr. Bauer, in all his holiness, is willing to tolerate deviant behavior if it is one of his own kind. Kinda makes you wonder what the other Republicans have been doing that we just don’t know yet????

These so-called Christian Conservative Republicans have all been nothing but deviant sex fiends, liars, thieves and cheaters. But I don’t blame Jesus or God for this bunch because I do not believe anyone of this so-called Christian bunch has a clue as to who Jesus or God truly is.

And as for the supporters of these politicians – you are just as bad if you tolerate it and sweep it under the rug. Much like the Catholic Church covered up their pedophile priests for years. It is beyond me how anyone with a clear conscience could ever step into a Catholic Church today.

Hypocrisy is running rampant and it is in the churches. I’ll take my chances with the heathens – at least I know what I am dealing with upfront.

I Think that the worst thing Bush has done to America is dropping our morals to those of the Zionists. We had to drop our membership in the World Court to keep from having to deal with the War-Crimes which the Israelis have had us make as a part of our Foreign Policy.

The most brazen being the slaughter in Iraq, but the completely uncalled for destruction of Lebanon, right down to their infrastructure is openly sickening.

There is no excuse for doing that, which also killed many Lebanese. The dropping of cluster-bombs on our way out of Lebanon, which when unexploded looked like toys and as designed killed far too many children.

The Zionists have no morality, but the People of United States do, and never should have been allowed to be drawn into that butchery.

When you lay with dogs, you wake-up with fleas.

One by one countries are boycotting Israel for the rank disgusting behaviour.

From Democratic Underground’s Weekly Top Ten Conservative Idiots:

Funnily enough, David Vitter also happens to be southern regional chair of the Giulani presidential campaign. And what does Rudy think of Vitter’s dalliances? In a sort of bizarre Möbius strip of hypocrisy, the thrice-married adulterer said last week, “Some people disappoint you.”

No doubt. So let’s see. First Giulani’s state campaign chairman for South Carolina was indicted for distributing cocaine (see Idiots 296), then his Low country chairman was revealed to have called the NAACP the “national association of retarded people” (see Idiots 297), and now his southern regional chair has been caught not merely with his pants down, but with his diaper on.

    *****

McCain got more bad news yesterday. A Florida co-chair for his campaign was arrested on Wednesday after offering to perform oral sex on an undercover officer, the Associated Press reported.

State Rep. Bob Allen, 48, allegedly propositioned the officer after coming out of a bathroom at a park in Titusville. He was charged with solicitation for prostitution, for which he could be jailed for up to a year, the AP reported. Allen has denied guilt and called the charges “an ugly and unpleasant situation.”

Indeed. In fact, one could argue that this is a real blow to the McCain campaign. A-ha-ha.

    *****

David Almond resigned from the North Carolina General Assembly last week after the state GOP failed to cover up allegations of “serious, improper behavior.”

And what was this serious, improper behavior?” According to Howie Klein at DownWithTyranny:

Impeccable DWT sources tell me he exposed himself in front of a female employee and chased her around the room yelling “S*** it, baby, s*** it.” It is unclear whether or not there was physical contact. She filed a personnel complaint.

Did I mention that David Almond was a vice chairman of the committee on children, youth and families?

Oh, has Vitter resigned? Has Allen resigned? Did any of the other multitude of Republicans resign after being caught in their sex scandals or lobbyist scandals?

The circus you are referring to myboyzdad is the circus that your Republicans put on during the Clinton years. And for what, Monica Lewinski? And, as I recall, each Republican politician from Newt Gingrich to Henry Hyde had their own mistresses while they were pointing the finger at Bill Clinton.

Perhaps this is why Bill Clinton is still popular today, despite all the whining by the Republicans. The average American knows the Republicans are full of holy self-righteous crap and they know Bill Clinton was the target for each and every Republican.
