KU video questioner annoyed by responses

The University of Kansas student who posed a video question during the Democratic debate Monday was annoyed that the candidates mostly laughed off his question. Jordan Williams, a junior from Coffeyville, asked via a YouTube video about complaints that Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., isn’t black enough and Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., isn’t feminine enough.
"I wanted them to indict the American public for having these preconceived notions," Williams told the Lawrence Journal-World. "It’s sad that we live in a country that puts people in such specific boxes of how they are supposed to act."
Welcome to the world of politics.

EXPECTING A PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE TO “INDICT THE AMERIACAN PUBLIC”?

Maybe because it was a stupid question. The candidates are running to lead the United States of America not the NAACP or NOW.

No offense to the student, but he got his first lesson in Political sidestep dance move.

Now, if the Democratic Candidates would have subjected themselves to a debate with Conservative Moderators, I would have been more impressed.

They want to soft soap their way through the political process.

Kansas, what is it with you and ’soft soap’?

I think you have been forgetting to tear off the pages from on your Conservative Word-O-the-Day Calendar.

It’s an old term I use now and then.

I could be more crude and use B.S. if you wish.

    Whatever you want to do.

‘Soft soap’ could be considered crude if you are from a military or prison background.

It’s evident this KU student is way behind the times! I’m 60 years old and happen to be black! I wouldn’t have ask that question ever! Times have changed, son! As the old saying goes,”We don’t ask that any moe!” I expect candidates to stand on issues that effect all Americans. Not some namby-pamby hypocritical song like what this student put forth! My daughter graduated from KU! My son is in his third year at KU! Both were stunned by this line of questioning! That’s like asking, how black do you want your coffee? The answer? BLACK!!!

    Bill got it right.

Candidates can’t tell the American voting public that it’s stupid.

    Even when it is.

    Not really brian,

“Soft Soaping” is a term older than I. I used to see that slogan as a kid on certain signs around town.

Like, “We won’t soft soap you on the deal.”

Politicians used it as rhetoric when one candidate is “soft soaping” about an issue. Call it tap dancing, b.s., lie, fairy tale, but never heard it related to a military or prison term.

The question was stupid and an embarassment to KU.

Phillip, there is no bastion of typecasting as high as the Kansas media. Simple answers for an assumed simple audience.
