NOW AT ABOUT 1 AM EARLY ON SATURDAY MORNING, I notice the Moon is “waxing,” that is approaching the Full Moon position. This hour would be midnight if we weren’t on Daylight Savings Time so in about two more nights we will have a FULL MOON, when the Moon will be at the top of its arc across the sky at this hour.
However, the Moon will also be inclined from the vertical to the SOUTH horizon due to several factors. ONE, being in late July, the Earth is returning from its maximum tilt of 23.5 degrees to the south from the equator to allow the sun to warm the northern hemisphere including the 24 hour day at the North Pole. Also we in Wichita are located some 38 degrees north of the Equator. Plus the moon itself has a small periodic tilt of some 5 degrees back and forth. So now in late July, it appears these cumulative reasons give the Moon an inclination of about 45 degrees to the south of vertical.
The point is, a FULL MOON WILL RISE ABOVE WICHITA IN ABOUT TWO MORE NIGHTS, ABOUT MIDNIGHT ON SUNDAY NIGHT/MONDAY MORNING.
I have heard the rumor that on the night of the MONTHLY FULL MOON in Wichita, a secret society meets on the top vacant floor of one of downtown Wichita’s tall buildings to honor the memory of Wichita favorite son, Earl Browder.
Who is Earl Browder? He was born in the Delano district of west Wichita in 1891. He was said to have played minor league baseball here and to have married a local girl. But somehow in 1936 and 1940, Mr. Browder achieved what no other Wichitan has … he was nominated twice for President of the United States … on the ticket of the American Communist Party.
Remember their slogan, “From the many according to their abilities working their hearts out in whatever field they do best … to the few accordiing to their needs regardless of whether they do anything worthwhile at all.”
So at midnight on Sunday night, don’t be alarmed if you see a Batman signal flickering on the moon, and the giant shadow of the Caped Crusader poised on the high downtown buildings of Wichita. He will be looking for flickering lights, cigar smoke, furtive movements, talk of downtown arenas and gambling casinos to be paid for by the working citizens … from those supporters of Earl Browder and his economic principles.
DON’T BE ALARMED … IT’S JUST BUSINESS AS USUAL IN WICHITA.
“Let’s just shoot all Republican office holders in the head and get it over with.”
–That’s from another post by frustrated conservative blogger “Kansas” (must say I find that moniker offensive–it’s as if they assume speaking for the whole state).
Where should we start with the shooting? I say Susan Wagle, Todd Tiarht, and Sam Brownback would get it going nicely.
Delsol,
Check out my last post on Open Thread. We won’t need to shoot Republicans. They’re busy hanging themselves.
