The Democratic presidential nomination contest between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama turned hostile this week over the issue of dealing with hostile nations, with Clinton even turning Obama’s slogan against him: "Whatever happened to the politics of hope?" she asked on CNN. Obviously, how an administration manages threats posed by global thugs depends on the situation. And as fellow candidate Joe Biden observed, the spat distracts from the issues at hand: "Petty arguments about foreign policy credentials will not get mine-resistant vehicles in the field any faster and will not get our troops home any sooner."

Well I hope they get over it, because I really want them to run together.
Both of them are dealing in the world of what ifs. Obama gave a bad answer to a bad question when asked if he would be willing to meet with certain leaders. What he should have said was “it depends on what they want to talk about. My door is open to anybody but I am not going to waste time if I feel that we cannot acomplish anything”. Sorry bud but Hillary got ya on that one.
Biden is right.
While Clinton and Obama worry about style over substance, about talking points instead of in-depth issue analysis, the real issues get shunted off to the side.
As much as I hate to blame “main stream media” for the failings of the current system, they’re responsible for much of this. How much airtime has been given to the ridiculous “vixen videos” about Obama and Clinton? Who the hell cares about that, when American kids are getting killed in Iraq every day?
I could go for a lot less bullshit about Giuliani’s drag shows, Thompson’s acting career, Edwards’ haircuts, Hillary’s cleavage, and all the ways you can rhyme “Obama” with the names of criminals.
I could could go for a lot more coverage of how these candidates will be different from Bush - how professionally and honestly they will administer the government, and how effectively they will represent America’s interest in the world.
Not so sure here. I thought this Youtube.com event shed some clear light on the character of 2 of the Dem candidates, Obama and Clinton.
1) Clinton thinks fast on her feet, and doesn’t shy away from a fight with smart men. Check that: she doesn’t shy away from PICKING a fight with a smart man. In public. Very impressive. There would be no My Pet Goat moment under Prez Hillary.2) Obama’s learning curve is far steeper than Hillary’s. As evidenced by his response, he obviously has a way to go yet. He ain’t presidential yet.3) Obama is a fighter. It took him 24 hours, but he showed that he was willing to get in the gutter and fight in his next-day response to Clinton’s accusation of naïvite (Clinton’s vote to authorize Augustus Stupidus’s warmaking was a more egregious example of naïvite).4) Hillary managed finally to drag Obama into the gutter with her and the rest of the candidates. So much for the politics of hope (i.e., Obama as the anti-politician was exposed; Obama is just a politician after all).
All in all, a good fight. Probably fought to a tie among Democrats, but imo Hillary showed she has the Right Stuff. Aggressive, smart, disciplined, a total pro. Obama showed me that he can come back, that he too is a fighter. Not as experienced as Hillary (not the Right Stuff yet), but there was no sign on his part of running away from or ducking a fight.
I do believe Mrs. Clinton helped her cause in the general election more than did Obama here. She certainly got my attention.
What the hell is a My Pet Goat moment?
I would be very nervous if Obama got elected with his “Let’s not do anything campaign rhetoric carried forward into foreign policy.”
I would be equally nervous if Hillary Clinton past background of being for something before she was against it.
Depends on how the polls are running to determine foreign policy for the Democrats.
The Al Qaeda Poll wants Obama to win because he will waffle and never make a decision. The Al Qaeda Poll wouldn’t mind Hillary Clinton winning either as all they would have to do is kill one soldier and Hillary would tuck tail and run.
Yeah, reason to vote no confidence in either candidate concerning foreign policy.
And exactly how do you know how Al Queda wants Obama to win? Are you one of their home boys?
“The Al Qaeda Poll wants” blah blah blah…

The Al Qaeda wants someone like Bush, to replace Bush.
‘Bush Is al-Qaeda’s Strategic Ally ‘http://www.consortiumnews.com/2007/071907.html“The last-minute intervention by bin Laden – essentially urging Americans to reject Bush – had the predictable effect of driving voters to the President. After the videotape appeared, senior CIA analysts concluded that ensuring a second term for Bush was precisely what bin Laden intended.”
all they would have to do is kill one soldier and Hillary would tuck tail and run.

You have obviously never seen the studies that show women to be far more aggressive than men when it comes to protecting those in their care.
Been living without a woman for a while eh Kansas?
I thought one of the reasons Repubs hate Hillary is that she’s the ultimate biiiaaatttccchhh!
Bush doesn’t tuck tail and run…but he doesn’t fight either and that’s really the problem.
Bush sends other peoples’ loved ones to do the fighting for him and his oil-hungry buddies.
People don’t know Political Satire when they read it. Too bad, so uptight these Dems…
Why does someone who brags about posting online for about 30 years not realize that text doesn’t transmit “sarcasm”?
Who mentioned sarcasm? I said satire.
At least I don’t respond to post with vulgarity like the vast majority of Dems do.
Dems make me ashamed of being an American.
So move already.
I am not crazy about Hillary but remember the end game here is beating the Republicans badly in November of 2008 and all the candidates should keep that in mind.
Joe Biden’s Red Herring.
“Joe Biden observed, the spat distracts from the issues at hand: “Petty arguments about foreign policy credentials will not get mine-resistant vehicles in the field any faster and will not get our troops home any sooner.”
The US Foreign Policy determines whether those items are needed or not, and if troops are needed to solve a problem which the right foreign policy would not have created.
Sorry Joe, but your smoke and mirrors aren’t working.
“Bush was precisely what bin Laden intended.”
Cosmos
Bush was exactually what the Israeli Mossad and the Zionists wanted.
Not only Bin Laden not a player, but he’s not even at the table.
ronald,A “My Pet Goat” moment refers to the 9/11/01 attacks on America by Al-Queda. Augustus Stupidus was in a Florida classroom reading to elementary school students the aforementioned book, and continued to read to them, even after he knew the country was under attack (a sort of deer-in-the-headlights moment. He didn’t know what to do).
A “My Pet Goat” moment.

Yes, two candidates debating on how they were handle diplomacy and foreign issues is a distraction. The media would rather go onto other “serious” topics like haircuts and cleavage.
Notice no mention by the media of the story that’s the talk of the town in Europe? Of course not. Instead let’s focus on minor issues like whether or not a candidate wears boxers or briefs. For those interested in real news I suggest the BBC.
Doug, dude, what’s WRONG with you? For God’s sake, Nicole Richie is GOING TO JAIL!
I guess you’ve lost sight of what’s really important. Now be a good prole, and pay attention to what you’re told to think about.
Thank you.
Kansas–
I’ll make a deal with you.
You quit saying BS crap like “Al Qaeda wants Obama,” and I’ll quit saying that you support a war criminal.
Mega dittos, Doug.
I thought Obama put a boot up her ass, (Toby Keith).
He pointed out that she is not so much a person with normal convictions as an ambiguity machine spewing attorney-isms.
She is whatever you want her to be. She’s a blank parchment upon which voters may project any image they want . . . and they’re all equally valid.
THE ELEPHANT IN THE ROOM HERE IS, “Why are we all talking about this as if it is a 2 horse race? Why are we so focused on just these 2 candidates?”. Very simple! Because the mainstream media & corporate polls have manipulated us into having this very discussion. How many times have you seen this question in the polls? “Who do you like? Clinton or Obama?” The question precludes from our consciousnesses any other contenders some of whom might actually do something really good for this country & the world. It’s good for the corporations whoever is nominated from these 2. Obama can’t win, so that would guarantee a Republican President, Clinton will be more of the same, but w/ a smile. If we don’t start really being awake about this it’s all over!Of course Clinton is pulling away in polls. She’s the Corporate Choice; she’s met w/ Murdoch & the rest & done her deals, just the way Blair did in UK before he won. He too was the Corporate Choice! After Thatcher had bled the UK dry he was the more acceptable face of the kingmakers & the electorate did what was expected of them, they chose bad over disastrous; now the Neocons have bled this nation dry & in just the same way, w/ the help of the media, even Clinton looks preferable. Let’s start talking about why we have become focused on a 2 horse race!!!! Ask Gallup & the rest why they’re doing it, let them know we’re on to it, write about it, support the handful of candidates that might really change something!!! Let’s hear more of you so-called savvy pundits & bloggers writing about this instead of being sucked into the same scam. Come on guys, it’s an old, old trick. Help us get past it.
