Brownback let vote go on, but voted no

Remember that Bush judicial appointment that Sen. Sam Brownback, R-Kan., blocked because the nominee had attended a same-sex commitment ceremony in 2002? In the end Monday, the Senate voted 83-4 to approve the nomination to federal district court of Michigan Court of Appeals Judge Janet Neff (pictured). Brownback was among the four Republicans to vote against Neff, over lingering concerns about her views on gay marriage. “I think she has an activist view on this issue,” he said on the Senate floor.

The story says that “He blocked her nomination but then agreed to allow it to come up for a vote after he met with her privately”. My question: Since when does Brownback have the power to prevent a vote?

83-4 vote shows just how far toward the right-wing lunatic fringe Brownback is.

Brownback includes the fact that he is a Virgo on his myspace site. I question whether or not he is qualified to be a Senator since he believes in astrology. A person is not born believing in astrology, they CHOOSE to believe in astrology.

    Oh…its Bill Clinton’s fault…never mind!

…and THIS was the vote he was present for? After missing two thirds of the votes, he makes sure he is there for THIS?

    Kansas…As bigoted as you think.

Sam really voted? That means he was actually on the job, right? Gee, Sam, great to have you back to work.

Brownback, a charter member of the right wing hate brigade would never miss an opportunity to make sure his fundie base knows that he still hates gays. He probably has a staffer whose sole assignment is to call Sam when the words gay or abortion are mentioned in the halls of Congress.

Quit whining, she was nominated and passed the Senate.

Brownback, like every citizen of the United States is allowed his views and perhaps he garnered the votes of his constituency before he voted.

Personally I think it’s silly to use a single incident such as one reported as a standard to vote and that incident wouldn’t influence me one way or the other.

What’s sadder is the “red neck” approach of the Gays addressing this thread branding everyone in Kansas as intolerant.

That’s not the way to win friends to your cause.
