What should be on the Bush agenda?

The Eagle is doing a feature Sunday keying off President Bush’s planned visit to Wichita next Friday. We’re asking various people what they think should be included in Bush’s top priorities during his remaining time in office. What are your thoughts?

BUILD BORDER SECURITY before asking for amnesty.

    Sigh…

First ask Bush if he brought some National Guard equipment with him. Then ask him that if he’s serious about global warming then why is he delaying progress by issuing a program contrary and weaker than the German program. Ask him why we are shooting missiles into Sudan. Ask him why he signed a law forbidding the establishment of permanent bases in Iraq but is constructing a permanent base in Iraq. Point out to Bush that since NAFTA was implemented the number of illegal immigrants entering America has skyrocketed and if he plans on restructuring NAFTA to reduce the Mexican exodus.

    VICE PRESIDENT GORE:

“There are some issues that transcend ideology. That is,the view is so uniform that it unites people in both parties. Thismeans our country can pursue a bipartisan policy with continuity overthe decades. That’s how we won the Cold War. That’s how we havepromoted peace and reconciliation in the Middle East. And that’s howthe United States of America has promoted freer trade and biggermarkets for our products and those of other nations throughout theworld. NAFTA is such an issue.

The presence of three former presidents, two Republicansand one Democrat, to join President Clinton here today on this stage,is evidence of our country’s ability to support what is in ournation’s best interest over the long term without respect topartisanship.”

I would like to hear President Bush talk about Energy Policy. I’ve read his discussion on Ethanol and Hydrogen. What else is on the platter?

If there is any thing that should be on top of Bush’s priorities should be the Borders, which would have been good common sense strategy. It is a frightening thought to think of the possibilities of what would happen if some well planned infiltration of terrorist infecting the population with biological hazards such as a resisting strand of TB or some other highly contagious diseases entering into the United States thru the open borders.Bush should have thought about the safety of our nation and made preparation on security of our borders before launching his personal agendas, before launching the war against terrorism.

Everything comes to a full circle; the question is “how much damage you cause getting there?”

This will reduce our reloading costs.

The Dems have the power in Congress, what’s their agenda?

    Higher Taxes

More Spending and More Socialist Programs

    No National Defense

    Unlimited Illegal Immigration

    NOT Fixing Social Security

    Bush Agenda already shot down:

    Saving Social Security

Making Current Lower Tax Rates Permanent

Energy Independence Plan and Drilling for more oil in the USA

Stop American soliders from needlessly dying in Iraq. Stop it now. Above all else Bush wants to be remembered as a great preisdent. But his memory will be one of hate. LBJ and GWB will go down in history as the most hated presidents ever.

“The Dems have the power in Congress, what’s their agenda?

Do conservatives ever get tired of serving the same old bullshit up every day, every month and every year?? Let’s go item by item again:

Higher taxes? Absolutley. People that make more than $200K per year are grossly undertaxed and their taxes should go up. Multi millionaires should be taxed at least 60%.

More spending and more “socialist” programs? Absolutely! Have you ever noticed that conservatives LOVE to use words like “socialist” to describe programs that they dislike having to pay for. Things like schools, healthcare and public transportation are “socialist” while things conservatives do like- roads, farm subsidies, Halliburton, and bridges to nowhere in Alaska are not “socialist”.

No National Defense? Of course we want defense. What we don’t want is the military industrial complex that we now have (funny thing is that it was Eisenhower, a Republican, that warned us about that). I think we have made Halliburton and other defense contractors rich enough. We should demand our money’s worth and demand that the military actually demonstrate a NEED for whatever we buy. Conservatives are perfectly OK with spending billions on obsolete ships that the Navy stated it does NOT want and will NOT use.

Unlimited Illegal Immigration? Oh yes. Of course. Maybe more like we think that maybe the Republican business owners that entice them to sneak in should be held accountable.

Not Fixing Social Security? Conservatives do NOT want to “fix” Social Security. They want it to go away. They know that saying “we want to get rid of Social Security” is not gonna fly with voters so they want to “fix” it by using the “death of 1000 cuts” method. If Social Security needs to be “fixed” which is highly disputed, there is a simple way to fix it and that is to eliminate the earnings cap.

Conservatives, in fact, *do* want to “fix” Social Security. In much the same way as I fixed my cat, rendering him impotent.

How about the effing Iraq mess for starters?

Anybody wonder why the Repukes under Pat “Old Rubberstamp” Roberts never issued the Senate Intelligence Committee Report?

Well, thanks to Democratic control, they have:

“Prewar Intelligence Assessments About Postwar Iraq (PDF) shows not only that Shinseki was right about troop levels, but also — as if more evidence is needed — that the Bush administration ignored critical pre-war intelligence in their rush to invade Iraq.

“The report, which the previous Republican Congress successfully kept from being produced for two years, shows that months before the Iraq invasion, the White House knew from U.S. intelligence agencies that a civil war would likely erupt after Saddam’s ouster, that al-Qaeda would quickly move to exploit the American occupation and that Osama bin Laden’s organization would actually gain strength globally due to Bush’s action.

“‘Prior to sending troops to Iraq, the Bush Administration promoted the terrorist nexus between Iraq and al-Qa’ida (and the attacks of 9/11) as a central part of its case to the American people that Iraq posed an imminent threat that only military action could extinguish, despite the Intelligence Community’s view that Iraq and al-Qa’ida viewed each other with suspicion and were not operationally linked,’said Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Jay Rockefeller (D-WV) in the report.

“‘What the Administration also kept from the American people were the sobering intelligence assessments it received at the time warning that the post-war transition could allow al-Qa’ida to establish the presence in Iraq and opportunity to strike at American it did not have prior to the invasion.’”

You can see the whole effing mess spelled out in the Intelligence Assessment that Worst. President. Ever. was given before we went in–Kurdish separatism, Shia power-mongering, Sunni backlash, Al Qaeda exploitation of the chaos, Islamic rage at the occupation.

ALL FIVE of the REPUKES on the committee voted against releasing the Committee’s report.

    Worst. President. Ever.Worst. Party. Ever.

Fix our foreign relations which are a shambles.

Rebuild our relationship with Lebanon, a former ally now an enemy.

Actually do something to show support for the “roadmap”; remove our opposition to neutral peace-keepers.

Pressure Bush’s soulmate Putin to restore democratic reforms in Russia.

These would not require the political capital on the Hill to pass.

Bush had a window of opportunity to get his immigration bill passed two years ago when he had “political capital”; that window has closed.

I would like him to re-instate the constitution and our civil rights. Habeas Corpus would be nice. If he could then stop spying on Americans without a warrant in violation of the constitution, that would be good. Then, if he could pull out of IRAQ, and stop using our kids as cannon fodder for oil, that would be good.

Do like the presidential wannabe’s are doing, distance yourself from the bush. Wonder if this fundraiser wasn’t negotiated back when the good senator was on the Senate Intel. committee.
