Take me out to the ballgame — please

Congratulations to the Wichita State University baseball team for winning its regional Monday night and getting to host University of California-Irvine in a best-of-three super regional beginning Saturday at Eck Stadium. It’s been a bit of an up and down season, but it’s certainly concluding on a high.

I must admit that they have been a pleasant surprise. Let’s hope the Shockers can go all the way.

It was one of the best games played. Both teams had awesome pitching. There were no silly errors and the weather was just right.

Congratulations Shockers!!!!! Now let’s do it two more times!!!!!

Oh well, it’s only a 20% or 30% chance both days — good odds for Kansas in June!

It’s going to be a perfect weekend for some baseball.

    Great!

My generation of youth baseball players helped WSU win the National Championship. Guys I played with or against in little league when we started West Urban.

Then my love for baseball died, playing it as a teenager. I used to have favorite major league players, but not anymore.

I like the stadiums, crowds gathered acting exciting and electric, but the games I miss those in-game details. I was never a statistician. I care less how teams win the baseball games, just long as they win. Fans have a good times to share.

It’s great to see a Super Regional happening at Eck Stadium.

I like to WSU do well, no matter what it tries.

Baseball practice in the fall is meaningless and that is overdone as a story during college football season.

One reporter suggested the crowd seemed like a football gathering.

    In no way at all.

Wichita has been harmed not gathering in 30,000 to 40,000 people more often. Some forget what size crowd that looks like and feels.

Wichita can be louder, than 8000 at Eck or 10,000 at Koch Arena.

    15,000 filled arena is better.

18,000 seats has to happen in the downtown arena. To see WSU hosting four team basketball tournaments. To bid for other major college basketball tournaments.

40,000 showed up to see an American Idol singer shows how starved this community is for bigger and better gathering events.

Does anyone know what time the game starts on Saturday?

I haven’t heard fleettwood. From what I am told by an absolute fanatic co-worker they are ’staggering’ the games for TV. Half are friday night; half Saturday. I would guess some of the Saturdays are afternoon and some evening. For the sake of the fans I hope the one here is evening.

Saturday’s game is scheduled for 11:00 a.m., per kansas.com, will be on ESPN2 (cable channel 33).

Anybody know anything about the Anteaters? They were able to take Texas out, so I suspect they’re fairly good.

Why would any team take an anteater as a mascot…

I hope it doesn’t kill attendance.

    Wheatshockers?

Then there is UC Santa Cruz … the banana slugs!

fleettwood – I doubt that TV will effect attendance. Look for about 8000.
