Legal faux paux by Attorney General’s Office?

    Charges against police chief dismissedhttp://www.kansas.com/213/story/88639.html

“The bottom line is, we sat back and waited based on the fact that there were three different assistant attorneys general in this case, plus a number of judges,” he said.”…The state still has the burden of bringing the defendant to trial within 180 days. It’s incumbent on the state to seek a new judge or move the date up.”

What would the press have done if Kline had done this? Isn’t the press being kind to AG Paul Morrison in this case when there would have been bloodletting if Kline did this?

“Well-behaved women seldom make history.” What would it be like if the USA government were dominated by women? We know what men can do or not.

Would Rosie the Riveter be an example of how women can do anything a man can do…maybe better?

First off I doubt they will not at least mention D day, though I do doubt they will mention Turk Lagoon. Where the U.S. caught I good deal of the Japanese Navy at anchor.

But my question to you is, does not the TV, Radio and News paper to the cave you obviously live in not come through? Forget September 11? How in the world would you have that idea? Try finding it not having it mentioned on any channel on September 11!

Writerdog, Presidential Candidate Edwards denies that there IS a war on terror today. Those who want to retreat from the face of our enemy or deny that there is an enemy HAVE forgotten 9/11.

  7. Posted June 6, 2007 at 6:58 am | Permalink

“War on terror” IMHO is a too vague, and too broad. One needs to narrow it down to “War on terrorism”. This war cannot be fought by focusing the military might, but more on the eliminating the “excuses” for violent radicalism, be it poverty or political oppression. It’s about freedom to be human, to have dignity, to have hope.

The media has already mentioned D Day. So all the media haters can stop with their crying.

The slogan “War on terror” is silly. You can declare war on a tactic. One obvious insult to the intelligence of the American people is the stupid slogans…”War on Terror”, “cut and run”, and my personal fave….”islamifacism”. What we need are leaders, not HallMark Card writers.

Nothing on the Repubic candidates’ debate last night?

Guess that shows just how irrelevant the GOP has become.

Rudy hopes Republics will ignore his three marriages, his pro-choice stance, and cross-dressing. (And, judging from the enthusiasm on this forum, they’re trying hard to do just that.) Mitt Romney’s looks as plastic (and just as masculine) as a Ken Doll. John McCain gives GOP primary voters some “straight talk” — totally insulting right wingnuts — by admitting that Hispanics might just be people, too.

And just about every candidate is eager to fling nuclear weapons at just about anybody that might make them cranky.

But ya gotta love Kansas’ own Sam the Sham.

Brownback, during the audience Q&A portion of the debate, to a woman whose younger brother died in Iraq eight days before he was due to rotate home:

“Thank you for your family’s service, and what your brother did, that’s incredible, an incredible gift that he and your family have given us.”

Uhm no. This man’s death was not an “incredible gift,” it was a tragic loss to his family. An appropriate response would be a bit empathetic; something like, “I’m sorry for your loss.” But to say that would be to acknowledge that there’s something to be sorry about when someone dies in Iraq. No one on that stage in New Hampshire will acknowledge that.

So the deaths of our troops are now “incredible gifts.” And every day is Christmas!

IHG, not hardly the war in Iraq had nothing to do with the war on Terrorism, if anything it detracted FROM the war on Terrorism. It may have even aided the terrorists, no one is calling for the leaving of Afghanistan. Which had everything to do with fighting the terrorists, Al-Qaeda is far stronger and closer to the fight in Afghanistan then it ever was in Iraq. You are confusing the two when you say those wanting a redeployment in Iraq are forgetting 9-11. if anything what is happening with the Sunni tribe-men in their taking a stand against Al-Qaeda there shows that the statement that if we were to pull our troops out is a scare tactic. The Iraqis may be concerned that our presents there may mean we wish to control their country. But they know that Al-Qaeda would want to subjugate them, forcing them to give up their way of life and lose any progress they now enjoy.

The point that Edwards was making is a valid point, the American people by and large are not at war. The number one killer of our troops is IED and there is a lot of foot dragging in the deployment of safer vehicles to our troops. When we are fighting a enemy that uses our weaknesses against us and our boarder are so open. What is the leading concern expressed by our leader? Why how securing our boarders would effect the pool of cheap labor! The effect it would have on business and how it would raise the cost of production. Not protecting American life and land, again not at war as we should be.

OK LTP here is something on the debate last night, after it was over CSPAN had call in for Republicans only. Many of the callers said that of all of the candidates Ron Paul stood out as a great candidate and would get their vote. Even some Democrats have said they like him over their own candidates, he maybe the one whom draws from both sides and with the main body of Moderates.

And your source says they only had accumulated 19 traffic tickets… Not exactly a whole lot of traffic tickets to go on… they might have been parking tickets for all we know.. Again, I suggest you check your sources a bit closer.. You holler about others citing Op-Ed pieces… This thing you cite here isnt even Op-Ed… maybe Blogger-Ed… LOL

Repub — Newt’s posting is much clearer… It is totally clear, and a gross miscarriage of justice that any one of these three brothers were even on the streets, given all of those violations… My daughter lost her license for not having insurance, and spent 4 weekends in jail once… and that was for ONE violation, and the vehicle wasnt even hers! LOL This is definitely a travesty… somebody in Cherry Hill, NJ needs to lose a job, or worse!

Nobody here seems to be getting to the heart of the debate.

A few quotes pulled from the AP article that you might want to discuss.

    (Regarding President Bush)

    1. “I would certainly not send him to the United Nations” to represent the United States, said Tommy Thompson, the former Wisconsin governor and one-time member of Bush’s Cabinet, midway through a spirited campaign debate.

    2. Arizona Sen. John McCain (news, bio, voting record) criticized the administration for its handling of the Iraq War, and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney said, “I think we were underprepared and underplanned for what came after we knocked down Saddam Hussein.”

    3. Rep. Duncan Hunter (news, bio, voting record) of California said the current administration “has the slows” when it comes to building a security fence along the border with Mexico.

    4. Rep. Tom Tancredo of Colorado recalled that White House aide Karl Rove had once told him “never darken the door of the White House.” The congressman said he’d tell George W. Bush the same thing.

    5. Fred Thompson, appearing on Fox News after the debate, said he had watched part of the give-and-take among his potential rivals. “They did all right from what I saw,” he said.

Comments? Or does everyone agree with the above statements?

There’s more in the article, if the above doesn’t suit you. I’m sure you can find something. The Clintons were mentioned. Will that work for you?

Ummm I did NOT make an error on my assessment of McCain… McCain claimed that ALL SIX of those alleged terrorists came through the southern borders… And that is NOT true… He could have made a solid case just using the three that apparently did come through there when they were VERY young children… But, at ages 1 – 6, I dont know how strong of a case he could have made even just staying with those three…

So, go check it out Repub… McCain said ALL of them came through the Southern Border… I heard it in the debate… I knew then he blew it… That is why I wouldnt trust McCain as President.

Exclusive: Iraqi Lawmakers Pass Resolution That May Force End to Occupation

By Raed Jarrar and Joshua Holland, AlterNet. Posted June 5, 2007.

The parliament today passed a binding resolution that will guarantee lawmakers an opportunity to block the extension of the U.N. mandate under which coalition troops now remain in Iraq when it comes up for renewal in December. Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki, whose cabinet is dominated by Iraqi separatists, may veto the measure.

The law requires the parliament’s approval of any future extensions of the mandate, which have previously been made by Iraq’s prime minister. It is an enormous development; lawmakers reached in Baghdad today said that they do in fact plan on blocking the extension of the coalition’s mandate when it comes up for renewal six months from now.

Reached today by phone in Baghdad, Nassar al Rubaie, the head of Al-Sadr bloc in Iraq’s Council of Representatives, said, “This new binding resolution will prevent the government from renewing the U.N. mandate without the parliament’s permission. They’ll need to come back to us by the end of the year, and we will definitely refuse to extend the U.N. mandate without conditions.” Rubaie added: “There will be no such a thing as a blank check for renewing the U.N. mandate anymore, any renewal will be attached to a timetable for a complete withdrawal.”

ChasDon’t you understand? Republican is a man of faith….faith does not require fact or logic. And his party is guilty of using scare tactics for political gain. McCain’s story wouldn’t have been as good if only 3 plotters came through Mexico. And it definitely would have lost some “scare value” if he admitted that they came here at 1-6 yrs of age. The GOP is a bunch of paranoid bible thumpers, that think they can deliver the second coming of Christ.

Again, the followers of the GOP doctrine are people of faith…..meaning they are told what to believe, and require no facts or logic to base their belief on. Just listen to how they repeat the motto of the day. Whether thats “cut and run”, or “defeatist” or calling you a “surrender monkey”. They are not creative enough to develop their own opinion. Just walk the line.

I did find myself wondering how these candidates plan to appeal to the voters during a general election. Most responded to questions like they were Bush III or a wannabe Second Coming of Ronald Reagan.

With most of them, Rudy McRomney in particular, you could almost see the gears turning while they labored to get in the Reagan references and the tougher-than-thou rhetoric.

That may play to the Twenty-Eight, but it is almost a guarantee of a loss in November ‘08.

The brothers referring to the Duka brothers, not all six.

But I guess that’s what happens when you walk in Lock-Step with Libs, you start believing your own lies like Chas has repeated twice.

    Chas–

    That’s Republican’s stock-in-trade.

He annoys people until they respond to him and then he’s in his element–a FLAME WAR.

That’s why he’s on here 16 hours a day, looking for the latest contestant who’ll play his insult game.

It’s his idea of a good time.

    Don’t give it to him.

  70. Posted June 6, 2007 at 10:22 am | Permalink

Nothing more annoying than the Capn, who refuses to answer straight forward questions put to him by GMC and others. Capn’s hypocrisy is that he posts in the morning, in the afternoon, in the evening, late evening and after midnight.

Capn enjoys quoting communistic sources such as the DailyKos and Comsky. A pure Liberal who has Communist Socialism flowing through his veins.

Capn can’t help himself, he’s been an admirer of Lenin since a young boy.

You owe your freedom in large part to the Battle of Midway, that took place 65 years ago on June 5, near a tiny Pacific atoll northwest of Hawaii. There the U.S. Navy thwarted the Japanese plans to invade Hawaii, ambushing andoverwhelming Japanese forces during the three-day battle, putting them on the defensive for the rest of the war. The USofA lost 307 men and 145 planes. The Japanese fleet lost 4800 men, 291 planes, 4 carriers, 1 heavycruiser, and 3 destroyers, and never recovered from the defeat.About 1800 people gathered Monday at Midway, as others gathered elsewhere to remember the sacrifice and the victory, and the vigilance of those who remain free, and value their freedom by its price.

    On Kervorkian:

The truth of the matter is that doctors everyday write prescriptions that will make dying people more comfortable AND hasten their death.

We have “do not resecitate orders” combined with morphine drips that use enough morphine to ‘kill a horse’. Death comes via the administered drug but we pretend that it’s natural.

Dr. Kervorkian did what doctors all over the US do only he did it openly with the patient’s consent.

My father had no choice. He was dying and the most humane (and convenient) thing to do was for the family to allow hospice to administer the morphine drip and watch him die.

XXX and the Mrs. Get well soon!

I’ve seen trikes, three wheels, special made custom made motorcycles.

If carrying a passenger it should be something like that or a full dresser Electric Glide type.

Vehicles crash, but motorcycles with passengers, lack of helmets possibly are more dangerous.

Rice rocket with passengers, don’t even think that’s safe.

So many on bikes now with t-shirts and shorts. Flip flop shoes. Complete disregard for the tip over or slide.

His and her bikes in the future.

One friend, a wife, had to do that because she was unwilling to ride on back of her husband’s bike.

Tandem riding is a little better, giving two bikes nearly same value as one car on the road. People can see two bikes better than one.

Back in the Eighties, I was riding my Electra Glide in the drizzlin’ rain in Northern Michigan.

(Sounds like the beginning of a country song, doesn’t it?)

I came upon a decreasing radius turn on a hill. The turn wasn’t too bad, but at the last moment, I saw the sand had washed down the hill into my lane.

(Now it sounds like a “Teen Angel” song from the Fifties.)

    My choices were slim…

(I couldn’t stop, so I swerved to the right.)

Braking hard under the circumstances was out of the question. It was either sand or a blind trip into the oncoming lane.

    (Tell Laura I love her!)

I took the longest fifty yard trip of my life, into a blind, downhill corner in the rain.

(Won’t come back from Deadman’s Curve!!!!)

I love riding but it has more than it’s fair share of hazards.

(Get your motor runnin! Head out on the highway!)

    Be good, XXX!!!!!

Hey all,Walker dropped by and told me he’d posted the accident on the open thread, so I dragged myself to the computer to check it out, lol! Thanks for all the well-wishes, I am truly touched by your concern. I Think it says a lot for us that we can drop our “shields” and wish a fallen blogger well without regard to political stripe.

Mrs XXX and I laid the bike down on the curves on the south edge of Furley, Ks. Tuesday evening. It was unfamiliar road and a bunch of short curves, so I was just idling through, maybe 12-15 mph. The back tire hit some sand on the pavement and the bike went down. I was pinned under the bike with Mrs XXX on top of me. Damnedest thing. Mrs XXX lifted a 600 pound motorcycle to get me free. She’s a very slender woman; not at all the type to lift a load like that.(Thank-you Jesus)

Mrs XXX is skinned up and very stiff and sore. I’ve got a broken arm (big bone, upper left arm) and lots of hide gone on the left forearm and left shin. My left leg took a bad crushing, but no breaks. My left foot is black and blue; the bike ground my shoe off. And I’ve got a nasty cut under the left eye.

We’re both pretty banged up, but nothing that won’t heal. We were very lucky. It could have been a lot worse. Mrs XXX and I are not in the habit of wearing helmets. That’s going to change.

The bike is scuffed up, but not all that bad. The gas tank is caved in and there’ll be a lot of crome replaced on the left side. I should know in a few days if it’s repairable or not.

Again, my heart-felt thanks for your good wishes; they’re much appreciated.

And Hank, did you forget? Considering what I shoot, both arms are my “shooting arm”, LOL!

Gas tanks are replaceable, bro! Thank God that you and the Mrs. are okay.

It’s like this XXX, the rubber side is down, the shiny side is supposed to be up.

    Remember that!

Take care dude, heal well and get back on the road a soon as possible.

    All the best!!!!

God, I am thankful that you and the lady are not hurt badly.

    “XXX” –

I’m thankful you and the Mrs will recover from your foolishness of your not being “in the habit of wearing helmets.” I’m truly thankful that’s gonna change.

This is mostly a political blog, so I can’t promise my comments won’t turn political. But your not being “in the habit of wearing helmets” has been made a political issue in the past. Mostly by motorcycle-enthusiasts.

Hey, it’s not like us namby-pamby bleeding-heart liberals didn’t try to protect you from the habit of not wearing helmets; to protect you from your foolishness.

Thing is, I’m perfectly willing to pay tax dollars to finance highly-trained EMT’s and a state-of-the-art rolling Emergency Room ready to respond to some curves on the south edge of Furley, Ks. on a Tuesday evening, but that’s beginning to sound a lot like “Socialized Medicine.” At least the way the Republic Party candidates explain it.

I’m thankful your injuries were not more severe. But had (God forbid) your injuries had been more dibilitating, I’d be a bit more willing to know that my tax dollars were going to provide you with Social Security Disability benefits had you taken a modicum of responsibility for your hobby and worn a helmet.

My personal recreational fetish is driving small sports cars too fast on traffic-controlled courses. I have a roll-bar and wear a helmet when I race. I understand, to a degree, what you enjoy about motor-powered speed and freedom; it’s just, I wanna hear the crunch of metal around me before I die of it. Or become disabled.

I respect the macho jokes like “road rash” (which is, in fact, a major trauma to a major bodily organ). I’m relieved your major injury, “XXX,” is a broken bone; bones heal. I’m grateful to the Powers that Be to learn the bumps and bruises you and Mrs. “XXX” suffered will (realitively) soon become memories.

But next time you enter into a political discussion, try to remember how totally unexpected trauma can rise up and turn into life-changing events.

We liberals really don’t think the government should try to prevent such things; we merely believe a civilized society should be prepared for such things, and prudently apply tax dollars for such preparations.

    We’re “Liberals,” see?

    Hey XXX,

Glad to see you got your hunt-and-peckers working!

Yea, I remember your hand cannon! I also remember you firing it one handed!

Actually, shooting that .500 the first time was about the second scariest thing I did last year. Shooting it the second time was the scariest!

Give your wife our regards and ice the sore spots.

Long Time Poster, First Time Lurker, I can’t argue with anything you say. I think you’ve mistaken which side of the issues I’m on.

“But next time you enter into a political discussion, try to remember how totally unexpected trauma can rise up and turn into life-changing events.”

Been there and done that. I’ve seen up close and personal how poor uninsured people are treated and it’s a scandal. I think it’s a crime that in the richest most powerful country in the world, people have to do without proper medical treatment.

Yes, I’m one of the bikers who has advocated for personal choice when it comes to wearing a helmet. After seeing my life flash before my eyes, my “personal choice” will be to wear a helmet from now on. From this point, I’ll never argue again about the wisdom of wearing a helmet.

    The Phantom,

Could it be they sold stock because it was an all time high since they took over and maybe realized that if it went higher the stock might split, therefore recovering their former portfolio?

Or is there more here than meets the eye?

  164. The Phantom
    Posted June 6, 2007 at 10:59 pm | Permalink

I think it’s a national disgrace that the uninsured will be billed top dollar for their hospital care, while the insureds’ insurance company, and organizations like the VA, will be charged pennies on the dollar. Sounds like discriminatory pricing to me, and should be illegal.

Stock splits are normally financially advantageous to the share holders, as the split shares normally sell for more (when combined) than the pre-split share did. If it were just one or two insiders selling, it wouldn’t be too worrisome, but looks like just about all the top execs, cut their holdings. Don’t know, maybe a moritorium on having to hold their stock awards ended, but I would have expected that to have been disclosed.

Here is a man who posts with integrity and consistency:

“Not hardly WSClark, the “slapping around” comment was verbal not physical. People with limited cognitive ability like the thick-skulled XXX thought I was challenging him to a fight. I even explained what I meant.

“Besides, I told XXX to set the date to meet of lunch/dinner, as my schedule was more flexible than his.

    “Guess what, he never did…”

    Then a little later:

“Sorry to hear that XXX and wife were injured in a motorcycle accident. Speedy recovery and may there be full healing.

“Posted by: Republican | June 06, 2007 at 12:07 PM”

XXX- You’re right about changing your mind and going with the helmets. The last time I dumped my bike I had one on , wished for 2 or 3 more and a bunch of armor before I found the pavement. Road rash, etc., are a real bitch , but it sure feels good when it quits hurtin’!I hope your both heal quickly.
