As of Thursday afternoon, the campaigning Sam Brownback had missed 12 more Senate votes this week, all on energy issues; that’s 79 of 224 total votes this year. But there is good news (for him, if not his constituents back home in Kansas): He’s tied with John McCain in the latest Mason-Dixon poll in Iowa (for fifth place with 6 percent, which says more about McCain’s fade than Brownback’s gain). The Des Moines Register reports that Brownback’s whirlwind tour of Iowa small towns this week has drawn some crowds of 30 to 50 people.
His schedule also meant he missed the Senate’s “Seersucker Thursday.”

“Sam the Scam” just might be serving his nation in ways even he cannot imagine.
He’s going all out to rally the small-town small-minds of twice-born Iowans (the same people who voted for Pat Robertson in 1992) into making him a viable GOP candidate in the August straw vote. If he fails, the so-called “Christian” faction of the Republic Party coalition will be proven impotent. Pro-choice, pro-gay Giuliani will prove more acceptable to Republics than the Prophet from Parker, Kansas.
Or flip-flop cultist Mitt Romney will succeed because his Ken Doll persona (his magic underwear covers nothing) is more attractive to Republic voters than Brownback’s Opus Dei-inspired “every sperm is sacred” approach to stem-cell research, reproductive rights, and “Terri Shaivo would be a Rockette today if it weren’t for liberals” message.
McCain and Giuliani have dropped out of any active effort to win the Iowa straw vote in August. They will, of course, get a certain number of votes despite their campaigns’ official apathy. If Brownback’s hell-fire dash to credibility doesn’t result in a Top-3 finish in the straw vote, the twice-born faction of the Republic Party coalition is dead.
Wonderful! It is so good that Iowans are getting to know Sammie. He’s been gone for so long we Kansasns have forgotten him. In fact, if the folks in Iowa get to know Sam, I for one would just let them keep him.
Sam has just grown accustomed over the past years of having a very limited work schedule in the Republican run congress. It’s going to take some time for him to learn that in the new congress he’s actually supposed to show up for work!
Maybe sam is tacitly acknowledging that his vote in the senate is essentially meaningless? Worthless?
He fails to vote on energy issues to stump in Iowa? I wonder if he promoted ethanol there as god’s own fuel?
Again, when did missing work 2/3 of the time and drawing a full paycheck become a kansas heartland value?
2010 cant come soon enough!
Oh come Iowans, you are not so stupid as to support someone that does not show up for work, are ya?
IOWA – idiots out walking around. Now I know where this saying came from. If the people from Iowa are buying into Sam Brownback’s phoney religious front, then they deserve to be called idiots.
I never said Brownback would win.
However, I told all of you, long ago, that Brownback would get a respectable showing and that McCain would NOT win.
Don’t know who will win, but McCain WONT be first, and Brownback WONT be last.
Hey, I’m from Iowa and now a Kansan :)
I wish I could miss as much work as Sam and still keep my job.
anyone remember the commercials against Docking? How condecending he was towards women? In every commercial his wife was in, she stared at him like he was god…when she wasn’t doing laundry or dishes…he had his “woman trained” that is what he was saying.
Brownstain isn’t good enough to even be voted for dog catcher of Park City
I find it rather ironic that Senator Brownback accuses Romney of flip flopping on issues. Meanwhile Brownback has been sucking up to some radical groups co sponsoring the International Romance Regulation Act along with the ultra liberal Maria Cantwell. Brownback is a hypocrite who claims to be pro marriage and then “flip flops” on the issue by sponsoring a law creating a brute blockade regulating (preventing) marriages between Americans and foreigners by requiring three different background clearances at various stages of a relationship. The gullible Brownback believed the whole spin and smear campaign of the National Organization of Women creating a romance law under the guise of “protection of foreign women”. The true purpose is to prevent American men from marrying women outside the boundaries of the United States based upon cooked statistics and misleading facts.Senator Brownback as president would be a disaster. He took an oath to defend the constitution of the United States and then sponsored the most undemocratic and un American law in the history of the USA… The International Romance Regulation Act a law that regulates marriage and romance, a legal pursuit.
I am from Iowa and the last thing any Iowan wants is a US Senator from Kansas who sits passively by while the Sedgwick County Kansas Court & government system corruptly goes unchecked.
Please keep your Senator in Kansas where there is support for the masquerading trash on your Sedgwick County bench,in courtrooms and county offices.
The last thing America needs is a conservative Republican who turns a blind eye to Sedgwick County Republican & Democratic Judicial Corruption,go play on the freeway Yellowback,er…Brownback.
