Brownback got the message

Sam Brownback, who has taken heat from The Eagle’s WE Blog and other Kansas media for his appalling absentee rate in the Senate this year, had this to say for himself in a Wednesday conference call with state media: "What I am trying to do is balance the work back-and-forth. Being in the U.S. Senate, being on campaign trail, I’m trying to do the best I can," he said, citing as reasons a January trip to Iraq and Afghanistan and the Greensburg tornado as well as his presidential campaign. As of Thursday afternoon, Brownback had missed 62 of 204 votes, or 30.4 percent, but had cast nearly 20 votes just since Tuesday.

Damn, so he’s started to do his job again? Why couldn’t everyone leave well enough alone so he would do less damage?

We were better off when he DIDN’T vote.

    Shoot.

I don’t see how a photo-op is a good reason to miss work. If I called into work saying that I was going to miss work because I wanted to buy cheap sunglasses and rugs then I’d get in trouble. Apparently Brownback’s work ethic thinks it’s excusable. Brownback, you don’t want to be a Senator by your actions so just quit your job and let a responsible adult take over.

Let me get this straight… Brownback takes an oath of office to protect and defend the constitution of the U. S. — If I heard right, he voted AGAINST Habeus Corpus??? The RIGHTS guaranteed BY the constitution..??

Doesnt that mean he violated his oath of office?? Isnt that grounds for a re-call vote???

    Organizing a recall vote for Brownback would be a waste of time, effort, and money. I’d say he perfectly represents the view of about 70% of Kansans. This is a nutcase state; we need a nutcase to represent us.{sarcasm off}

The people of Kansas have some of the best work ethics in the country. Too bad Brownback’s “work ethic” is what everybody sees and remembers.

Liberals in this blog have a problem with his views. The Eagle would never have brought this up if it was Hillary. I wonder what is Hillary’s or Obama’s record is?

Sam, please don’t say you are doing the best you can. If this is as good as it gets with you, well, you’re not much. You’ve abandoned your day job, eventhough you’re still getting paid, and you started out in the presidential polls at 2%, and after all of this time, you’re still at 2%. This is your best?

Have you tried looking it up? Do you know how to conduct a google search?

Hint: Hillary and Obama’s voting record is much better than Brownback’s.

Okay John, I was kidding. I know it’s way to challenging to look up facts if you’re a conservative. It apparently was too much for you to read the article that opened this thread, so let me help you out.

Brownback has missed 30.4%Obama has missed 8.3%Hilary has missed just 4 votes.

You’d know this if you’d read the second link in the article.

    DOH!

If Brownback was a regular Joe with a regular job that has missed that much work, he would be out the door on his butt without a second thought. Maybe it is time for these politicicians to start living life the real way. Oh my bad – Brownback married money so he has NEVER had to live like the rest of us.

Could be that Brownback is coming to terms with reality- the reality that is will NOT be the GOP nominee nor the VP pick.

Ah! A thread where the Lefty Liberal Cheese Eating Surrender Monkeys can sink their no substance teeth into.

They can post without having to think because of this fine thread supplied by the Eagle. :)

Brownback misses thirty percent of the votes, and somehow that is the fault of DEMOCRATS?

    Hehehehe. Still laughing…

Or it is the WE’s fault for REPORTING that sam the sham missed almost ONE THIRD of the votes?

Damn that media for reporting the truth!

If he really is god’s senator? I wonder if GOD is pissed ’cause sam missed so much work. And continued to draw his paycheck.

I think god needs a new director of human resources…

What if we ALL only showed up for work two thirds of the time, like Sam Greenbacks? Think we’d get fired, or maybe another free ride at taxpayer expense… Hmmm….

Go to Senate.gov and look at Roll Call Votes, or search the bill on the “Legislation” portion of the menu.

The bill you want is the “Social Security Totalization” Bill.

Well that is the votes he missed for this congress. The Eagle and liberals are just trying to make Brownbak look bad. Any information that makes democrats look bad will definitely be hidden by the Eagle

  22. Posted June 10, 2007 at 4:11 pm | Permalink

    John S,

Voting and attendance records are public record. The Eagle can’t “hide” them.

Brownback has been AWOL from the Senate because he’s too busy running around the country, sucking up to radical conservatives in a doomed attempt to get elected US President. As one of Brownback’s constituents, I think he should spend more time doing his job and less time chasing naked ambition.

The eagle can ‘hide’ them by not starting a blog that portrays democrats in a bad light.

    Hey John,

How many US Senators from Kansas are Democrats?

    Let’s count together:

(This is where we thank Arab mathematicians for coming up with the concept of ZERO)

Okay, now that we’ve had our math lesson for the day, let’s focus on the civics lesson. If there are no Democratic US Senators from Kansas, how can the Eagle hide their voting records?

Please answer in 20 very short words or less.

    Umm, John,

This blog is an OPEN FORUM. It’s not a propaganda tool for either side.

So, you think there should be a blog for people who think like you and a blog for those who don’t?

The question was rhetorical. Don’t answer that…

what i am saying is that the eagle tries to portray republican senators in a bad light. Look at another blog where they say that sebelius earns less than her counterparts. If it was a republican I doubt they would have started that blog.

  28. Posted June 12, 2007 at 6:48 am | Permalink

Uh-huh, IMHO, anyone being in elected offices WILL always be portrayed in negative lights more often than not.

    john_s,

You have no way to corroborate that statement…it’s just an opinion.

Same type of appeal to emotion that you always see…

“If it were a (…fill in the blank…), you can bet that “they” would have never (…fill in the blank…).”

Personally, I applaud his stance on putting Darfur and the Sudanese on the spot, but disagree with him on other issues. And that’s normal. That’s American, to be able to voice dissatisfaction with the management without fear of retribution. (Well, maybe not in GOP … )

” ‘There is no confidence in the attorney general on this side of the aisle,’ said Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania, the senior Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee. Specter voted to move the resolution forward, but he said many of his GOP colleagues would not because they feared political retribution.”
