Brownback voted for immigration bill before voting against it

Sen. Sam Brownback, R-Kan., contends that his voting for the immigration bill Thursday and then, about 10 minutes later, voting against it wasn’t a flip-flop. "I wanted to signal that I support comprehensive immigration reform, but now is not the time, this is not the bill," Brownback said. But conservative critics aren’t buying it. A new YouTube video titled "Sen. Switchback" ends with the slogan: "Sam Brownback. Leadership only John Kerry could love."

Just trying to have it both ways.

Hey, Sammy– if you ever get over your problem with cognitive dissonance, you should run for office again.

But the next election, obviously, is not the time.

Huh? You did what? Let’s see. Sam is the guy who is never there to vote (but he’s still cashing the paycheck), but he rushes back to Washington to vote yea on the immigration bill (helping bring it back from the dead), then he votes againist, saying it’s not the right law. Huh?

    Poor Sam…

If there’s anything, anything at all, Sam the Sham thought he had worth running for President on, it was his “principled moral compass.”

He got caught up in Potomac Fever; went from a pro-choice Methodist in 1994 to an Opus Dei self-flagellation “every sperm is sacred” Catholic radical when he thought it’d help him with Robert Novak and other fringe right-wing extremists.

Iowa Beef, Kansas City Salad, Olathe Boot, MBXE, and a host of agricultuarl intersts depend of substandard wages paid to illegal workers. Poor Sam can’t even come out in favor of enforcing the laws already on the books, since that would make the people who are responsible for illegal workers — the ones who *give them jobs!* — subject to obeying the law.

The Radical Right, whose arguments against “amnisty” have nothing to do with reality other than their inherent racism and xenophobia, are attacking Sam Brownback — Sam Brownback!! — from the *right!*

Here he is, Mr. GOP — “God’s Own Politician” — coming to the realization that his entire political career has been a deal with the Devil.

Brownback has burned his bridges with his Kansas constituency. Twice. His only hope now is to become a viable second-tier candidate in the Iowa Straw Vote and early Republic Party primaries; as a balance to a Rudy Giulani or McCain or Thompson… hoping to promise he can deliver the Religious Right.

He’ll attack Mitt Romney all through July, with all the “Christian love” we’ve come to expect from evangelicals. And it just might work in Iowa, as strange a state as you could possibly imagine in partisan politics. But we’re gonna hear about Mitt’s prayer underwear and other Mormon silliness.

The only reason Sam voted NO on imigration is he finally figured out that those of us who vote actually care and sometimes watch what is going on. There were 18 senators who voted for AMNESTY on the first vote, then changed to NO on the cloture vote. They finally got it, we are watching and care.

WASHINGTON — Sam Brownback says he harbored a “hatred” of Bill and Hillary Rodham Clinton until he experienced a religious awakening in the mid-1990s.

Brownback, a Republican presidential hopeful, details in a new book how the change in outlook led him to make a stunning apology to Hillary Clinton a few years later during a Senate prayer breakfast.

“I was considering what I should say when I confronted all the anger that I held for the Clintons,” the Kansas senator writes in the book, “From Power to Purpose: A Remarkable Journey of Faith and Compassion.”

“I thought, I hate them for what they are doing to the country and I feel justified in hating them for it,” he writes.

But Brownback says he realized there is never justification for hating someone regardless of their actions.

He told the prayer breakfast audience that he used to have a “hatred for Bill and Hillary” because of their politics. He spotted Sen. Clinton in the crowd and, speaking directly to her, said he “realized that those thoughts of hatred were wrong. I apologized to her for them. I don’t know what she thought, but I believe it made a difference.”

Religion permeates nearly every corner of Brownback’s book, written with Jim Nelson Black and officially slated for release July 3. His soul searching began in 1995, hastened by two dramatic events in his personal life. His marriage was in real trouble _ he was “on track” to getting divorced _ as he devoted all his energy to the conservative agenda that fueled the Republican takeover of the House in 1994.

Even more traumatic was his 1995 bout with cancer and surgery to remove malignant melanoma from his right side. Brownback says he finally found peace when he resolved to devote himself to God.

“One night I got down on my knees and said ‘OK, Lord, that’s it. I give up. It’s all Yours,’” Brownback writes.

Well Sharon, should we just stop with the Mexicans are get all the illegal Asians, Muslims, Africans, etc.etc., registered and on their path to citezenship? And, just how fair would it be to other peoples of the world to even have a cut off date for eligibility? Shouldn’t anyone that wants to take part in the American dream be embraced? Or, should we be racist, and say it’s only the Mexicans that have been here for a certain period that are eligible?

You have to STOP ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION FIRST!!

We could build a fence with laser turrets, crocidle pits and hoards of tiny frogs that feed upon skin, and people would still find a way to get over here. That’s because if you are poor and in Mexico there is no way to get ahead and break the cycle.

YOU ARE ALL A BUNCH OF IDIOTS if you think building a fence is going to solve the problem. Mexico has to fix it’s problems, or there will always be illegal immigration.

If you lived there and had a starving family with no hope for the future, you would do everything you could to get to a place you thought there was hope to. And waiting ten to fifteen years for the paper work to go through legally isn’t much of an option either.

The failed Amnesty S.1 1639 Failed because it was a back room deal put together without proper support, effort etc.

In 1986 The last great amnesty was granted and laws put in place to prevent more “illegal imigrants” from violating our laws and waiting for “The NEXT GREAT AMERICAN AMNESTY”.

1 We must secure the borders

    2. We must be able to enforce our own laws.

    3. We can’t take unlimited numbers of imigrants from the rest of the world.

Below is a link to a video explaining how the numbers work.

We all are decendents of Imigrants. Having said that, we also have a right to expect anyone wanting to live here to obey our laws, speak our language, and support the UNITED STATES.

I Wholeheartedly support Imigration reform. I also expect our laws to be enforced and our borders secured.

Call your senators and represenatives and insist that they work toward security and enforcement FIRST.

Once that is accomplshed rather than hoped, AMNESTY is then and only then is an option.

Sam Brownback is the biggest “flipper” and hypocrite in the US Senate with a zero credibility rating. When he was elected Senator he took an oath to defend the US constitution and broke his oath sponsoring the International Marriage Relations Act of 2005. Brownback’s romance law allows the US government to interfere with the universal right of an American citizen to say “hello” to a person in a foreign country without first having to submit a background clearance before communication can occur by e mail, telephone or fax. This is a gross violation of constitutional amendments of free speech, free association and equal treatment.

Senator Brownback who claims to be pro marriage “flipped” by sponsoring a law to regulate(PREVENT)romance and marriage which is a legitimate pursuit.

When Brownback was elected to the Senate in 1997 he was NOT initially against abortion being quiet and queasy on the subject. He changed (flipped) to a anti abortion stance later. Had he not run for president this issue would never have surfaced.

Senator Brownback who changes his political opinion on important issues faster than the weather changes. Perhaps he should change (flip) his name to “Senator Switchback”.

    Sharon,

There will be no amnesty for those third world animals, only deportation, if they are lucky! Stop crying and DEAL with it!

Time is running short for you and the rest of the “aztlan” terrorist cowards. You will no longer be able to hide behind the aclu or traitor politicians.

    “ENDGAME” DOCUMENTS: BEFORE AND AFTER

On March 26, 2007, the Boston Globe ran our op-ed about operation Endgame, the plan to remove all 12 million undocumented immigrants from the United States by 2012. We wrote the piece to point out that the March 2007 raid in New Bedford by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents was not just an isolated incident, but part of a detailed and ambitious plan that will likely require similar tactics on an even greater scale.

Since then (and starting the very next day) something interesting has happened. While publicly taking issue with our assertion that Endgame uses tactics similar to the ethnic cleansing we saw in the Balkans during the 1990s — lightning raids, mass arrests, packed detention centers, and mass deportations — ICE has quietly removed documents about operation Endgame from its website, ice.gov.

Fortunately, we anticipated this and saved copies.http://www.aclu-mass.org/issues/ice_doc_gallery.html

Sgt. Slaughter demonstrates the depth of the moral depravity that has gripped our country. It is a serve yourself, screw the rest of the world mentality. Sure, you get the honor of growing up in America with all of it’s priviledge, but if your one of the damn lazy mexicans, then sorry, you have to wait for thirteen years of paperwork, and maybe you will get the chance.

If you lived in Mexico and had a starving family with no hope for the future, you would do everything you could to get to a place you thought there was hope.

“There will be no amnesty for those third world animals, only deportation, if they are lucky! Stop crying and DEAL with it!”How pathetic. Your words echo southern politicians in the 1850s and Nazis in the 1930s.

On September 27, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) announced that the DREAM Act would not be considered as an amendment to H.R. 1585, the Defense Department authorization bill for fiscal year 2008.

The Washington Times reports, however, that Reid will push for passage of the DREAM Act, which would grant amnesty to millions of illegal aliens, by different means (possibly in its stand-alone form [S. 774, sponsored by Assistant Majority Leader Dick Durbin {D-Ill.}]) before the Senate adjourns for the year (i.e., on or about November 16).

Reid’s concession on the DoD authorization bill may doom other immigration-related amendments to the defense bill as well.

Please fax your senators: We have stopped the DREAM Act for now, but there is already a push to pass it as a stand-alone bill.
