Will Brownback score in South Carolina?

The reviews were mixed at best for the first GOP presidential debate — Stephen Colbert, for one, said the field represented "all the colors of the rainbow from eggshell to ivory" — so it will be interesting to see how the candidates modulate their performances at tonight’s debate in South Carolina. If Kansas’ Sam Brownback is going to break through into conservatives’ hearts, South Carolina would be the place to do it. As it is, Brownback is working like a dog and still only at 2 percent or so in the polls. Even Fred Thompson, who hasn’t announced he’s running, is at 10 percent. The debate airs from 8 to 9:30 p.m. our time on the Fox News Channel. Brit Hume will moderate.

Brownback might score some points in Carolina, if he gets his hand(s) up first when the evolution question is posed!

He will do better if he remembers what state he is in. Compared to his dumb remark when he was in Wisconsin and made a Peyton Manning reference not realizing he was in Brett Farve country. Like saying “Good night Wichita” when you are in Dallas. This guy is an idiot! Just a matter of time before he gets the boot!

Come folks!EVERY politician has made mistakes.Obama said that we lost 10,000 people.I disagree with Obama, on many things, but he is not an idiot!

Hillary claims she was named after a famous mountain climber, who was not famous until AFTER Hillary was born.

I think honesty counts more than perfect speaking skills.

Brownback might not get the nomination. We all knew that going in. However, Brownbacks views are well within the mainstream of American thought and he deserves more respect than you are giving him.

Anyone who thinks “Brownback’s views are well within the mainstream of American thought” must surely be dog-paddling in the shallow water.

    Anti-evolution, anti-stem-cell research, pro- Opus Dei…

Brownback is so “mainstream” he registers only 2% support of likely Republic Party primary voters; the 28% of American people who still think George WMD Bush is doing a good job.

Brownback is on the fringe of the fringe.

So, yeah, he’ll probably do well in South Carolina.

    Long Time

We live in a Republic, first off, not a pure Democracy. The truth is, the public is confused on stem cell research, but poll after poll shows that the public does NOT support the generation of Emryos purely for the purpose of providing spare parts.Stem cell research success stories EXCLUSIVELY point to adult stem cell progress, with zero progress, of any type, with embryonic cells. There is no federal ban against private stem cell research of any kind, there is only a ban against federal funding of emryonic stem cells. Therefore, YES, Brownback is actually in the mainstream on the stem cell issue.

“Mainstream” does NOT mean that everyone is with you, all of the time, 100%.

“Mainstream” indicate that the view is supported by a large number of voters and that holding that view will not guarantee failure at the polls.

I happen to believe that GWB IS a GREAT President, and I think history will be very kind to GWB.However, Brownback has been critical of Bush on war issues.

I happen to believe that Genesis and Darwin are NOT mutually exclusive. In fact, I don’t evolution could happen without divine intervention. However, Brownback is more critical of Darwin than I am.

The truth is, however, that there is GREAT skepticism of macro-evolution.

In fact, only 13% of the public thinks that God was not involved in the process of evolution, if evolution actully did take place!

You don’t like Bush. We get it.

You don’t like Brownback. We get it.

Try to make a logical case, outside of your personal bias, would you?

The truth is exactly as I stated it: Brownback is well within mainstream political thought.

Wow! You actually believe history will be kind to GWB? I think history will judge him in the same light as it has judged LBJ and Nixon. LBJ increased the military action in Vietnam, and Nixon was a paranoid loon. If you truly believe that GWB is a “great” president then I would suggest treatment. 28% of the population agrees with you. And 25% of the population believes that Christ will walk the Earth by the end of 2007.

Comparing this president to any other is a miscalculation at best. No other president has invaded another country on false pretenses. No other president has walked on the Constitution as this president has. No other president has run up the national debt as this president has. MikeEver hear of the Spanish American War?We invaded BOTH Cuba and the Phillipeans, in that war.I think, on balance, that war was justitfied, and that the people of those two countries were lucky to get out from under Spanish rule.Teddy Roosevelt was the “hero” in Cuba, but the Black Buffalo Soldiers actually won the day for us, in my opinion. The Spanish-American war started due, in large part, to dubious claims of Spain attacking us first!Your knowledge of history is very, very weak. You should avoid using words like “worst” or “never” or “ever” — avoid such declaratory statements —because you just don’t have a clue as to what you are talking about!

Iraq was NOT a “sovereign” state, prior to the US invasion, Iraq was much like a convicted criminal on parole or probation.Iraq was supposed to live under the terms of a cease fire agreement.Iraq violated those terms, repeatedly.Question the wisdom of sending in troops on the ground all you want, but the war in Iraq is and was legal from the start.I think History will show benefits from this war that we are not, yet, in a position to judge.

    Bush NEVER lied about Iraq.

Bush referred to British intelligence findings that Iraq tried to buy yellow-cake uranium. That is STILL considered a FACT by British Intelligence. Joe Wilson’s oral report to the CIA said, basically, the same thing, even though Wilson contradicted himself in his egotistical op-ed piece.

    Bush NEVER lied.

Moreover, Hillary will probably be the nominee of the Democrat Party.

Hillary and Bill BOTH said EVERYTHING that Bush said, prior to the Iraq war!

    Econ,

I hope we forget both President Bush as middle of the road guys. Their politics caused problems.

They mangled words and meaning during a speech.

    Read my lips. Mission Accomplished.

    Those statements had terrible consequences.

Neither was good for the economy.

Each has the Saddam “stain”. Wars that weren’t solved in the Middle East.

History looks negatively on problems not fixed in 8 year terms.

Dad had that second term as Vice President with Reagan that didn’t go well. His one term as President continued the same bad things.

Until 8 years are up on W, who knows what still could happen.

Glad W. can dance and conduct a symphony for fun while soldiers die and the war has no ending or goals achieved.

Long as Jeb Bush isn’t someone’s Vice President and he never runs for the office, America can get focus away from that family as the years go by.

Jeb’s son, George P. Bush on the horizon, some state politics, to the White House?

No more!Never again will a Bush be President without some civil war happening in our borders.

The Bush family causes a schism never seen before in politics. The Kennedy’s aren’t vilified as much because they break down in alcoholism ways.

Bush family makes huge political mistakes, supposedly with clear minds.

What’s the image of America today in this world. Pretty poor. That’s the legacy W. will carry on his back for a very long time.

Who wants W. doing UN type of things in the future?

Capn (and others) — Primary voters balance a desire to win in the General Election against a desire to find a candidate that best fits their own views. Polls at this point do not indicate policy decisions by the voters.

We live in a Republic, not a pure democracy. Every President has held a few unpopular views.

To say Brownback is mainstream is not the same thing as saying Republicans think he is the right man to beat the Democrats.

This thread died a merciful death, apparently, because Sam the Sham performed abysmally in Tuesday night’s debate.

Giuliani, McCain, and Romney virtually ignored the seven dwarfs on stage and when the also-rans stepped up, poor Sam hung back. Hardly leadership or presidential material.

Makes me wonder about his surname. Anglo-Saxons were pretty good about discriptive surnames. If you were a blacksmith, they named you Smith; if you built wagons for a living, they called you Wagoner; if you ground grain, they named you Miller.

And if you sh*t your pants a lot, your name was Brownback.

Sam lived up to his name last night.
