The clock is ticking on 2008. But Kansas Democrats still promise a viable challenger to Sen. Pat Roberts, R-Kan., for once — somebody to give “people a choice between the mainstream, commonsense leadership of Kansas Democrats and somebody who’s been a rubber stamp for the Bush administration,” said Mike Gaughan, executive director of the Kansas Democratic Party.
Don’t bother, says the Kansas GOP.
“He’s absolutely adored throughout the state. Frankly, I think the Democrats would be foolish to go after Sen. Roberts considering how popular he is, even among Democrats,” said Christian Morgan, executive director of the Kansas Republican Party.

If Roberts lost his rubber stamp would he be able to do anything in Congress?
Throw all incumbents out, Republican and Democratic. Push for term limits and return the control of the Government back to the people.
That would take out of box thinking, and it ain’t going to happen. Dumping all incumbents, while bringing in fresh blood, would rejuvenating congress, but, unfortunately it will never happen.
There’s too much money floating around in the pockets of these “public” servants, and all of it controlled by big business. That’s where to hit them. If we can hammer and hammer that point into the public, then maybe we can do something about it. But, knowing human nature, it ain’t going to happen.
I don’t doubt for one minute that Senator Roberts is a nice guy and a gentleman. In a changing world, however, it never hurts for an incumbent to tell us what he thinks about the issues every now and again. Senators tend to expound a bit more when they have opponents who draw them out. Therefore, in the interest of serving the democratic process, I hope Mr. Roberts receives a test this time around. I would like to hear the man tell us what he thinks about Iraq. Does he feel that Washington exercised sound judgment? If so, why? Specifically, what is the plan for Iraq when their leaders come back from vacation? I have another question for the Senator: what about Mr. Gonzales? Is he doing a good job? Does the Senator feel that Mr. Gonzales has been a shining example of what it means to be an Attorney General in this country? Perhaps a capable opponent will be able to draw the Senator out a bit more on these points. The citizenry could do with an informed and vigorous debate instead of dreamy political commercials that don’t shed light on the issues.
If he is a “nice and decent” man, he ought to change parties and get away from his neo facist brethern of the GOP. Otherwise an effort should be made to get rid of him as soon as possible. Decency and Republican can never be used together.
Bush’s senator.
And if ol’ rubber stamp is bush’s senator….
And sam is god’s senator….
Who represents Kansas?
Apparantly NO ONE in the senate.
Roberts is the Senator I dislike least but there are still plenty who are very upset with how he’s handled things.
I don’t like how comfortable all of them are in their positions, even laughing at us in Kansas by not bothering to come back and fight for their jobs at election time. It is time to start holding them accountable.
The state GOP is radically underestimating the LOATHING most of us Kansans feel for Commander Cod-Piece and his mafia government.
Roberts was the “good German” who stalled and stone-walled all the damning information the Intelligence Committee held regarding what Bush knew and when he knew it on pre-war decisions.
The tragedy is not complete until all the villains destroy themselves . . .

Here is just some of what Ol’ Rubber Stamp made sure that the American people didn’t get to see before the 2004 elections:
2003 Intel: Iraq War Will Aid Qaeda, Iran
Senate Report Finds U.S. Intelligence Agencies Warned White House In Early 2003 Of Iraq War Consequences(AP) U.S. intelligence agencies warned senior members of the Bush administration in early 2003 that invading Iraq could create instability that would give Iran and al Qaeda new opportunities to expand their influence, according to an upcoming Senate report.
Officials familiar with the Senate Intelligence Committee investigation also say analysts warned against U.S. domination in the region, which could increase extremist recruiting. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because the report’s declassification is not finished. It could be made public as soon as this week.
The committee also found that the warnings predicting what would happen after the U.S.-led invasion were circulated widely in government, including to the Pentagon and the Office of the Vice President. It wasn’t clear whether President Bush was briefed. [oh my GOSH!]
. . . . in predicting the effects of the U.S. invasion, the committee now finds that U.S. analysts appear to have largely been on the mark.
A former intelligence official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the decision to go to war had been made months before the 2003 papers were drafted and analysts had no delusions that they were going to head off military action. Rather, the official said, they hoped their warnings would be considered in the planning.
Since 2003, the Senate committee — led by Sen. Pat Roberts, R-Kan., and now Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va. — has been trudging through its investigation of what went wrong, frequently slowed by politics.
While the first phase of its report was supported unanimously just before the 2004 presidential elections, the newer findings on the intelligence community’s predictions about postwar Iraq have drawn dissent from Republicans. Details on the committee’s vote have not yet been released.—–
The only person I can see that can challenge him at this time is Dennis McKinney from Greensburg. He can sure get the sympathy vote.
If Roberts is so popular, why do you never see his supporters posting anything about him on WEblog.
Steve,
I’ve posted positive statements about Roberts a few times. I thought he did the right thing in going to Greensburg, for example. I’m also glad my daughter got her Naval Academy appointment from him.
However, he sure has turned into a Bush Admin rubberstamp. That’s sad.
any one to unseat Tanker Todd?
Would like to see Brownback pushed out for his Pro-Migration nonsense and open borders.
And Ive even voted Repub a time or two, but not for him.
ken – the correct name is TankerLESS Todd.
Sebelius could most likely win a Senate seat and possibly her Lieutenant Governor.
There are times I get total fooled, the last time was the Marriage amendment. I just did not think the majority in Kansas would go so wrong. Trying to guess if a Kansas Senator or Congressman will get unseated I am not sure if I will even try. On the face of it, it seem more then likely to me that Roberts, Brownback and Tiahrt will go down in flames.
But then as with the amendment, when it passed I was in shock and a liberal was then shocked at me being shocked. “Did you forget where you were?” he asked me, I said I thought I was in Kansas! I guess it is not the Kansas I thought it was….
Pat Robetrs makes a very good ‘fatherly’ impression. This veneer has served him well. However, if the truth about his participation in cover-ups for Bush can be made clear he CAN be taken down. The key will be to come up with a good candidate to go against him.
Senator Roberts respresents all of us very well. He will take a strong stand on important issues.
He won’t change his mind every time the wind changes direction. You need to pay more attention to the details if you think he isn not representing you. You might also try calling or faxing your opinion to your represenatives once in a while so they know what you think.
If you don’t vote and don’t communicate, how do you expect anyone to know your position?
“Senator Roberts represents us all very well. He will take a stand on important issues.”
Could you be more specific? For instance, if you have some details about the Senator’s position on Iraq at the moment, or if you know something about his position on the Gonzales matter, feel free to enlighten us.
You indicated that we need to pay more attention to the details. Great. What are they? I’ll be happy to listen.
Sebelius could most likely win a Senate seat and possibly her Lieutenant Governor.
OMG you are soooo right! Democrats forever!
“If you don’t vote and don’t communicate, how do you expect anyone to know your position?”
Well, I DO vote and I DO communicate. What is interesting is that I typically get a form letter back that doesn’t even reply to my questions.
how about arsehole???
jerk?
bush puppet?
I I would bet that Raj Goyle is gonna go after Tanker Todd
Finding a democrat to run against Roberts a bit tricker. the Gov maybe?
About the only time I see Roberts on tv, is when he’s accomanying Bush, when he passes through. I’d started thinking maybe he was on the bush staff.
This guy is the only one in the Kansas delegation who can actually look at us with a straight face and say he has served our state in Washington. I’m not of his party but this guy is a class act. I’ve had personal interaction with him and Tanker Todd. Needless to say Pat Roberts definitely is the classier guy. Don’t forget, he’s a politician and the survival of his party is important to him. The sooner you realize politicians are self-serving, the sooner you can understand why “our” best interests aren’t always their priorities. I’m not a big “vote my party” guy – I’ve voted both sides. I’d vote for this guy. Don’t forget, he brought $40 million to Greensburg, not Reverand Brownback.
“…not Reverand Brownback.”

heh heh
senator pat roberts makes me ill…
the damage he has done to this country by his circle the wagons for bush and cheney…
meanwhile not giving a damn about the truth, the soldiers the american people or the people of Kansas…
is this some kind of sick joke?
Some nerve he has.
He should have no future politcally in the state of KS or anywhere after his disgraceful agenda…
Pat Roberts has embarassed this state enough.
Steve:
For Roberts…it is all about Bush and Cheney…and loyal servant stuff….
He is so overboard with it…he is almost creepy now.
You are right with your observation.
He is always with Bush, and maybe he is so far out of it now…that he doesn’t realize that Bush and Cheney in Kansas have absolutly no appeal…He doesn’t get that they are pretty much in the same category…but worse…as Tom Delay.
I remeber not so long ago when elite from Wichita would line up to meet Roberts and Tiarht at big deal fundraisers right hear in Wichita just so they could hang out with Delay.
Well Pat Roberts is of the same stock….the same sleazeball generation. And for a time, he seemed above it all, with his good ol boy KS schtick…
He certainly is not acting like someone from Kansas. Not anymore. He should be impeached. That would be the best thing for Roberts.
