Here’s the smoking gun of the Gonzo prosecutor firing. It all ties together. The prosecutors weren’t willing to disenfrancise voters and harass legitimate vote counts.

Investigative reporter Greg Palast discusses “caging” on TheBradBlog:

    What is “caging?”

QUOTE–The Bush-Cheney operatives sent hundreds of thousands of letters marked “Do not forward” to voters’ homes. Letters returned (”caged”) were used as evidence to block these voters’ right to cast a ballot on grounds they were registered at phony addresses. Who were the evil fakers? Homeless men, students on vacation and — you got to love this — American soldiers. Oh yeah: most of them are Black voters.

Why weren’t these African-American voters home when the Republican letters arrived? The homeless men were on park benches, the students were on vacation — and the soldiers were overseas. Go to Baghdad, lose your vote. Mission Accomplished.

How do I know? I have the caging lists…

I have them because they are attached to the emails Rove insists can’t be found. I have the emails. 500 of them — sent to our team at BBC after the Rove-bots accidentally sent them to a web domain owned by our friend John Wooden.

Here’s what you need to know — and the Committee would have discovered, if only they’d asked:

‘Caging’ voters is a crime, a go-to-jail felony.

Griffin wasn’t “involved” in the caging, Ms. Goodling. Griffin, Rove’s right-hand man (right-hand claw), was DIRECTING the illegal purge and challenge campaign. How do I know? It’s in the email I got. Thanks. And it’s posted below.

On December 7, 2006, the ragin’, cagin’ Griffin was named, on Rove’s personal demand, US Attorney for Arkansas.

Perpetrator became prosecutor. The committee was perplexed about Monica’s panicked admission and accusations about the caging list because the US press never covered it. That’s because, as Griffin wrote to Goodling in yet another email (dated February 6 of this year, and also posted below), their caging operation only made the news on BBC London: busted open, Griffin bitched, by that “British reporter,” Greg Palast.

There’s no pride in this. Our BBC team broke the story at the top of the nightly news everywhere on the planet — except the USA — only because America’s news networks simply refused to cover this evidence of the electoral coup d’etat that chose our President in 2004.

And now, not bothering to understand the astonishing revelation in Goodling’s confessional, they are missing the real story behind the firing of the US attorneys. It’s not about removing prosecutors disloyal to Bush, it’s about replacing those who refused to aid the theft of the vote in 2004 with those prepared to burgle it again in 2008.

To refer to ANY candidate for President of the United States as “Breck Girl” is just ludicrous!

Here’s the story from the BBC that you didn’t read from the “liberal” mainstream media in this country.

Media here will never cast into doubt the results of any elections in this country. “Nothing to see here, move along . . . ”

    New Florida vote scandal feared

By Greg PalastReporting for Newsnight Oct. 26, 2004

A secret document obtained from inside Bush campaign headquarters in Florida suggests a plan – possibly in violation of US law – to disrupt voting in the state’s African-American voting districts, a BBC Newsnight investigation reveals.Election supervisor Ion Sancho believes some voters are being intimidated

Two e-mails, prepared for the executive director of the Bush campaign in Florida and the campaign’s national research director in Washington DC, contain a 15-page so-called “caging list”.

It lists 1,886 names and addresses of voters in predominantly black and traditionally Democrat areas of Jacksonville, Florida.

An elections supervisor in Tallahassee, when shown the list, told Newsnight: “The only possible reason why they would keep such a thing is to challenge voters on election day.”

When asked by Newsnight for an explanation of the list, Republican spokespersons claim the list merely records returned mail from either fundraising solicitations or returned letters sent to newly registered voters to verify their addresses for purposes of mailing campaign literature.

    *****

That’s caging–and that’s illegal. When it’s directed at minorities like blacks, it’s doubly illegal because they are further protected in light of historical disenfranchisment.

GS loves the term “war on terror.”

And since the “war on poverty” and the “war on drugs” have been such a stellar success, who would want to call the “war on terror” anything but . . .

    Roo-Ster,

Interesting post at top of thread, “American negotiators seek to weaken climate-change language”.

The U.S. has only about 5% of the worlds population, but has emitted about 30% of the worlds CO2.

The logical thing for China and India to say is:

    Raptor said,

“Oh brother…quoting the “BradBlog” as proof of anything? Puhleeeze..that is as credible as source as Limbaugh…”

Not quite. Read the Greg Palast article. Palast has credibility. Let’s compare Palast and Limbaugh.

Rush Limbaugh dropped/flunked out of Southeast Missouri State University after freshman year. Never tried again to earn a college degree. Instead he moved to Pennsylvania to be a Top 40 radio station DJ. From there he moved around to a series of stations finally landing in KC spinning the vinyl. After several years, he tried a new career using his media knowledge, directing promotions for the Royals baseball team.

He then got the break that moved him into the Big League of radio, landing a talk-show job, broadcasting over a 100-mile radius of the “redneck” part of California, the Sacramento Valley. He got great ratings, and ABC moved him to New York, which then led to national syndication, and for a period a TV show. He’s a talking head.

The Bradblog piece cited by Capn was written by Greg Palast. Palast earned his undergraduate degree at UCLA, and then studied finance at the University of Chicago. His research advisor and mentor was Nobel Laureate Milton Friedman. (Friedman, like other Nobel Laureates, had the “pick of the litter” in selecting top-caliber students to study under him. That alone speaks volumes about Palast’s intellect and work ethic.)

Mr. Palast has credibility that uneducated Mr. Limbaugh lacks. For example, he’s given several lectures at Cambridge University. If you haven’t heard of this institution, Oxford and Cambridge were the forefather institutions of Harvard and Yale. Harvard’s founders even decided to name their community Cambridge, and MIT’s founders decided to locate there. MIT has a cooperative undergraduate-student-sharing program with Cambridge U.

Suffice it to say, Limbaugh has never been invited to lecture at Cambridge, on either side of the Atlantic.

Palast works for the BBC, not as an entertainer, but as an investigative journalist. He’s written articles for The Observer, a respected paper that was named national newspaper of the year (Great Britain) at the British Press Awards recently. He writes for Harper’s Magazine here, America’s oldest monthly magazine (founded 1850).

Palast won the Financial Times David Thomas Prize. The Financial Times and Wall Street Journal are co-first-ranked as the world’s most authoritative daily business journals. Palast has been called America’s top investigative journalist by the Asia Times.

Finally, on bradblog.com, Brad Friedman has been a leading voice on voting-machine vulnerabilities. In response to his whistle-blowing, California investigated, employing, among others Stanford computer scientists, who verified Friedman’s charges. He’s not an investigative journalist, he’s an aggregator of information.

Then there’s one final difference between bradblog and Limbaugh. To digest bradblog’s information, you have to be able to read.

They have this little card at the post office one can fill out when there is a change of address. It’s quite handy.

If you move out of a Political Voting District, you must present evidence that you have not registered in another district if your ballot is challenged.

If you are in the military and have established a legal residence in your Military Records, you can vote absentee ballot.

Once again, Capn and his sources are full hot air.

  21. Posted May 24, 2007 at 2:08 pm | Permalink

Why was “caging” made a crime?

Because it’s so easy to just fill out a card?

Or maybe it’s because RepubliCONs were using it to hassle and inconvenience voters likely to vote for the opposition.

Which one makes more sense, the former or the latter?

  22. Posted May 24, 2007 at 2:14 pm | Permalink

No Capn, it’s called Border Voters and it happens a lot where states have big cities in close proximity of each other.

Kansas City Kansas and Kansas City Missouri come to mind.

People establish a residence in one state, move to the other and end up voting in both when they fraudulently deny the existence of an address on their voter application.

And you have lived in Kansas how long Chas?

You never have to show an idea at the Polls, unless it is a special challenge ordered by the court.

Every time I vote, they ask for my name and address. They don’t even want to see my voter ID card.

In recent elections I have handed them my DL simply because it seemed easier than spelling my name etc. Funny thing is they have made the damn thing so difficult to read the poll workers have problems with it.

I think they should give them ‘readers’ into which they could insert the DL and it would then read all the information from either the 2-B barcode or the mag strip.
