Why didn’t Gov. Sebelius attend the Greensburg High School graduation? Why did she send Lt. Gov. Mark Parkinson instead?
http://www.kansas.com/209/story/74780.html“We will rebuild the buildings of Greensburg,” said Lt. Gov. Mark Parkinson. “But the heart and soul of Greensburg are its people. The city of Greensburg is here today. It’s already here.”
Where was Sebelius yesterday and why didn’t she try to give encouraging words to the people of Greensburg without making it a political event?
Why does Sebelius only see the tornado as a means for political gain? First, Sebelius imagined a shortage of equipment for the initial 40 Kansas National Guard folks that responded, and later Sebelius focused on making the new Greensburg “green”. If “green” takes longer and costs more, that helps the citizens of Greensburg who have nothing now?
Why didn’t Bush attend instead of sending a letter. Could it be they both had more important matters to attend to?
Come on, Meadowlark – now you’re advocating pandering.
Sebelius already visited, what do you want? She’s not my favorite Gov, but the idea that political figures need to ‘make a show’ at every opportunity is just laughable.
She sent representation.
Continuing proof of the pointy-hat mentality that is known as the Liberal Mindset. Get a life, folks.
[quote]Democrats in America are evenly divided on the question of whether George W. Bush knew about the 9/11 terrorist attacks in advance. Thirty-five percent (35%) of Democrats believe he did know, 39% say he did not know, and 26% are not sure.
Republicans reject that view and, by a 7-to-1 margin, say the President did not know in advance about the attacks.[end quote]
http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/22_believe_bush_knew_about_9_11_attacks_in_advance#
G slow news day? like about four days ago. Yeah I saw that too, but it also lumps in those Democrats who said that were not sure. But look at the bright side, at least meadowlark has not said that Sebelius thinks Bush was behind 9-11… Oh great, that was what he plans for tomorrow’s breaking news!Sorry to jump the gun on ya meadow. But wait as soon as he can find the proof he is planning this big post. Outlining how it was really Sebelius who loosen the petcocks on the bottom of the Titanic and not a ice berg that is at fault.
But I hear the Green party is influenced to think it odd, You never see G.W. Bush and OBL in the same area at the same time…. Curious huh? I know some Pentecostals that think that there was no moon landings, it was all done on a Hollywood sound stage. If there was actually a moon landing the world would have come to an end…. So it had to have been staged!

It depends on how the question is asked. Do I think Bush knew in advance that 19 hijackers were going to hijack 4 planes on the morning of Sept 11th? While I would not put it past that evil SOB to allow it to happen for political gain, I would hope he is not that low. But if the question is did he know something was about to happen? Did he know an attack was in the final stages of planning? Yes- and so did Bill Clinton and neither of them did anything about it.
My, my, my… I thought the 9/11 conspiracy was all kept under lock and key on Coast to Coast AM… for the night owls… Oh well… BUT… Rumsfeld DID say that the plane that went down in PA, was SHOT DOWN….
THAT one you can find on Youtube.com… Just type in Rumsfeld…
So, there would seem to be a TON of un-answered questions about what happened that morning… I was in New Mexico at that time, and many people there commented that they thought probably at least somebody in the White House “knew” about the attack before it happened… Most of the people there thought it was Cheney… not Bush…
One individual told me he didnt think Bush was smart enough to pull off something THAT big…
Oh well, guess we have to wait 40 years to find the smoking gun, like we have had to do with the Kennedy ambush… Looks like there might very well have been more than one shooter in Dallas… like so many have thought for so long…
By the way….
For more9/11 conspiracy theories, check out http://www.Prisonplanet.com
Interesting reading there… no matter what side you might be on…
Meadowlark – It is not accurate that Sebelius “imagined” Nat’l Guard equipment shortages. While there were enough resources -people and equipment – to handle the Greensburg tornado disaster, she never said that there were inadequate resources THIS TIME. Her concerns were for another tornado disaster, or flood disaster – both of which almost happened, and did happen on much smaller scales in the next 5 days.
Also, Gov. Sebelius had first brought up this subject about 2 years ago when she had occasion to ride with Bush in the Presidential entourage (I think) on the way to Ft. Riley. So it wasn’t the first time she had brought this subject to Bush’s attention; trouble is, the promise he made to take care of the problem he reneged on. As Commander in Chief of the Kansas Nat’l Guard it is her duty to do everything possible to see that our troops are adequately equipped, and I trust that she knows a lot more about the details of this subject as you do. Indeed, a regional group of other governors were quite happy that she addressed this under-reported subject.
If she had gone again to Greensburg, she would have been blasted for pandering.
” I know some Pentecostals that think that there was no moon landings, it was all done on a Hollywood sound stage. If there was actually a moon landing the world would have come to an end…. So it had to have been staged!”
Are we sure it wasn’t staged? Were you there when Armstrong’s feet touched the moon?? Or did you just take the government’s word for it? Many questions linger about it. If Armstrong was the first on the moon, then who put the camera there that filmed him getting off the lunar module’s ladder? If there is no air on the moon, how is it that the US flag they planted is flying erect? I am sure there are explanations for this but you can see why some folks are suspicious!
g’s just mad because she didnt get the first repuke post today.
The good news is that meadow, republican and gs are only taken seriously by the 28 percenters.
The rest of us regard it as the new “funny pages”.
A day without meadow bashing governor leadership, without gs spouting the latest wingnut line on “liberals” and without republican making an ass of himself would be like, well…
A day without sunshine. I’m sure even anita bryant would agree!
Ummm first, the camera was on the outside of the lunar module…
Second, The FLAG is standing straight out, because it was made that way… There IS no wind on the moon… Come on, now, you can do better than that… I know you can… give it a try!!!
Ah, the daily Argumentum ad hominem from ksfoamgull.
I know that but the point is that many folks don’t and that is why they are suspicious.
“Ummm first, the camera was on the outside of the lunar module…

Why is it Americans cannot elect a representative instead of a name from corporate america? What is the romance? Why do americans fall over themselves for political media stars and fat cats? Have we not learned that these people NEVER make things better they just continue the corporate welfare and watch american jobs go abroad. It really stinks!
The news media and corporate america do NOT need to decide who OUR candidates should be for local, state or federal level representation.
The media takes in a ton of cash during our election periods and play a huge role in selecting candidates for all sides of the aisle. Then THEY decide who should participate in televised debates as if no one else matters to the voters. Yes they also seem to decide which issues are important to voters and many times miss the mark. The media has become a large part of the special interest takeover of our process as if they know what is best for all of us. Voters support this takeover by voting for those candidates who also spend the most money and the question is why?
Campaigns go too long, spend way too much money and do not necessarily provide the best available. It is up to us to stop the nonsense at the voting booths on the 2008 ballot. Not voting sends the wrong message and changes nothing.
Lets’s demand a new system and vote in Fair Vote America : http://www.fairvote.org/irv/Demand a change on the 2008 ballot.
The big money candidates are more beholden than ever to corporate special interests due to the very long nature of campaigns. How do they have time to do the job they were elected to do? We need public financing of campaigns. Citizens cannot afford special interest money campaigns for it is the citizens that get left out.
BTW I wonder if that flag is still on the moon and what kind of shape it is in after all these years. It would seem that, with no weather or wind to tear it up, it should be in good shape.
They do decide who gets in the debates but they only require a candiate get 3% or so in the polls and I don’t blame them. If you cannot get 3% or so, you are not a serious candidate and should not be taking up time from those who are. If it were up to me only the 4 top polling candidates would get on the TV debates. For the Democrats, that would be Clinton, Obama, Edwards and Richardson and for the Repukes it would be McCain, Rudy, Romney and whoever number 4 is over there. They are the only ones that have a realistic chance in hell of winning and they are the only ones I want to hear from.

This is from the comment section from the readers view. This is a very good point:
DONKEY FLIP-FLOP OF THE DAY:
“Iraq is a long way from USA but, what happens there matters a great deal here. For the risks that the leaders of a rogue state will use nuclear, chemical or biological weapons against us or our allies is the greatest security threat we face.”– Madeline Albright, Feb 18, 1998

LOL
Or so the Nazis….er….pseudo water experts would like us to believe.
Garrison Keiller nails it on the worst president ever.
“The French have a new president, the British will soon have a new PM, and we envy them as we endure the endless wait for this small, dim man to go back to Texas and resume his life.
His party is coming to see that it must figure out how to tell the truth about him if it is to compete in 2008, but so far nobody has stepped forward and wound up to throw the pie.
Their clock is stuck in the fall of 2001. They are sleepwalking toward the precipice.”

Yep sotheysaid,
That statement and more Democratic Flip Flop can be see here on the video. These are Democrats making their statements of which one you referenced. The ultimate in flip-flopping – Democrats.
http://republikan.typepad.com/republikansan/2007/04/democratic_part.html
Yeah ksfoamgull,
Garrison Keiller from PBS Vaudeville acts is where I go for guidance on Politics – not.
Hey Kev… I bet it wouldnt take a HUGE telescope to get a picture of that flag on the moon… Maybe THAT would shut up all the yayhoos that think it was all done in Hollyweird…. LOL…. Might be interesting to see if you can find a big one around here, and post a picture…
Good for a laugh…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UwQV_JJXulM
Republican… IF you listened to Keillor, you wouldnt have such a screwed up view of the world… And I dont mean just politics!!!
Stop blaming Democrats and Republicans for the mess this country is in …. we’ve elected these clowns ….
Fot at least the last 30 years+ our government led by Republicans and Democrats have been talking about an energy policy that removes our dependence on foreign oil and we have nothing to show for it, the immigration problem didn’t occur overnight it’s been festerng for decades. You can’t name one administration that has actually reduced total federal spending or created a more efficient effective govrnment — all of them have been tax and spend — and we pay these clowns to screw us ……………
Chas,
I’ve listened to Garrison Keiller for a very long time – very entertaining. I just don’t use him for a political reference.
Good post there ken, lot’s of blame to go around on energy policy. The 1970s “get-serious crowd” about energy, resulted in K-Cars from Chrysler and chia pets.
Jimmy Carter advocated energy conservation and the Republicans ate him for lunch. They laughed at Carter’s ideas but yet did not bring forth one new idea of energy conservation themselves.
Then we had 8 years of Reagan spending money we did not have and then Daddy Bush followed like the little lap dog he is. It took Bill Clinton to finally get us into somewhat good financial shape by at least having a budget surplus but your buddy Georgie sure took care of that in the blink of an eye.
And then in 6 years of total control, Republicans found time to personally line their own pockets with the likes of Jack Abramhoff, K-Stree Gang, the many sex scandals, incluidng mistresses and let’s not forget the Congressman trolling for young male pages on the Internet.
So, let’s not blame the 70’s get-serious crowd for lack of energy conservation. One only has to look at the last 6 years of Bush’s presidency and see exactly what the Republicans’ priorities were – themselves!
Congress passed CAFE in 1975, and it was very effective in cutting our oil use.
But in 1985, Reagan rolled back the CAFE standards — because GM and Ford would’ve been fined for failing to meet the standards.
This 1990 op-ed is re the 1st Gulf War, but unfortunately is STILL very relevant,’Make Fuel Efficiency Our Gulf Strategy’ (PDF-68k)http://www.rmi.org/images/other/Security/S90-26_MakeFuelEffGulf.pdf
“Only 25 percent of those surveyed say things in the U.S. are going in the right direction, according to an AP-Ipsos poll this month. That is about the lowest level of satisfaction detected since the survey started in December 2003.
Rarely have longer-running polls found such a rate since the even gloomier days of 1992, ahead of the first President Bush ’s re-election loss to Democrat Bill Clinton.”
(Posted on AOL NEWS FRONT)
Figures are taken from an AP-Ipsos Poll earlier last week. And, BTW, Republican, it doesnt have anything to do with Keillor… Check it out at http://WWW.AOL.COM

Hutchinson News, May 20, Letter to EditorThe recent visit of Gov. Kathleen Sebelius to Kiowa Countyto view the tornado damage was a big disappointment to manycitizens. It seems she came to air her own political agendarather than be an encouragement to the victims.http://www.hutchnews.com/opinion/westernfront/stories/visit052007.shtml
Newton Kansan, May 19, Letter to EditorI feel sorry for the Greensburg people in the tornado. It was nice President Bush came out here to lend support, but why did the governor have to bad mouth the presidentthinking we needed more trucks from the National Guard?http://thekansan.com/stories/051907/voices_051907003.shtml
Topeka Capital-Journal, May 20, Letter to EditorEquipment is availableGov. Kathleen Sebelius’s comments during the Greensburgnews conference were from the Louisiana governor’s play book.http://cjonline.com/stories/052007/opi_171290669.shtml
No one would have critized Sebelius for trying to solvea related problem that needs to be addressed, like this:
Salina Journal, May 17, Letter to Editorhttp://www.saljournal.com/webedition/may2007/05172007/7.PDFWhy no school shelters?”Currently, no state law exists that requires a designed/ engineered tornado shelter in any Kansas school”- Corey Schultz, Wichita architect
Obviously, the human disaster could have been far worse if the tornado had hit during school hours.Sebelius’ comments were intended to help her and Democrats politically on a national issue, not anyone in Kansas. During a disaster we need leadership, not politics.
“But in 1985, Reagan rolled back the CAFE standards — because GM and Ford would’ve been fined for failing to meet the standards.”
GM and Ford are still trying to roll them back today. I honestly think that, on balance, the country would probably be better off if GM and Ford went out of business despite the fact that they do provide good paying jobs to lots of folks. GM and Ford are the reason we have to spend so damn much time, money and lives fighting with Arabs.
Meadowlurker, what exactly do you think YOU”RE Doing with this?
You’ve politicized it far more than she has.
If Sebelius was a Republican and Bush was a Democrat (God forbid) you would be defending her every word, Meadowlark.
If you want to talk about a politician playing politics, I have some pictures of a guy on an Aircraft Carrier for you.
Right on Clark!!! Bring it on!!!
In fact, Meadowlark, there IS a shortage of equipment available to the KS National Guard… And it IS because most of it is in Iraq…
And it’s not JUST Kansas… Other states were quite pleased with our Governor, because what she said at her Greensburg appearance, could be equally expressed by numerous other Governors not far from here.
Infact, have fun with this case scenario… You know those “terrorists” that we are theoretically fighting THERE so we dont have to fight them HERE???
It seems to me those “terrorists” have our troops over THERE, and thats just the way they WANT it…
Cause if our troops are over THERE, they cant be HERE to defend US if they DO come here…
That idea just hit me last nite when I was listening to an interview on a radio show discussing pulling our troops out, and bring them HOME if we want to protect them…
Anybody want to try and argue this point?? Thanks!!
There are more military in the U.S. than you think Chas. Not only active duty, National Guard and Reserve.
Lots of retired military too. Heck I can’t move that fast, but could take an eye out at 100 meters. :)
Lot of bragging going on here. How about a shooting match at Lake Afton?
I know at least six contestants that wuld show up, what say getting up two teams, libs against the cons maybe?
Hank
Just an exihibition, no wagering allowed!
Hank
heh, last time I was on a range was before the first Gulf War. My vision ain’t what it used to be. And I don’t own any guns, except a keepsake old 22 single shot rifle that is in storage. :)
I have never owned ANY gun…and I dont intend to start now… Hank, where did you get the idea that anybody is bragging about ability to shoot?
And Republican, I dont think the RETIRED military count for available service personnel…
And I believe that you might be surprised at how much 160,000 troops would be missed should we be attacked on our own turf…
And you didnt really argue against my point that the more troops we send THERE, the more we are missing HERE… in theory, that would be a terrorist’s dream!!
You can shoot at Lake Afton, Hank?
Actually Chas, one can count the retired military as this is exactly what happened in the first Gulf War.
When one separates from the military, they go into a reserve system of two year increments. In case of a national emergency they can be called up with the most recent exited military clear up until the time of the 30 year year mark, if they retired with less than 30 years.
There were probably several retired people at McConnell Air Base during Gulf War I and the base never skipped a beat and no one probably outside the base even noticed.
In the recently separated soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen – the system works in a similar manner – up to a period of six years. The two year group closest to their time of separation from the service are called up first, then the next and finally the last two year tier.
I didn’t argue the point about troops being here or there because you really didn’t present it Chas until your recent post.
Your petito principii argument failed to establish any facts and then you initialized a straw man argument followed up with a slippery slope argument.
It was a squirming plethora of logical fallacy if I’ve ever seen one.
Is a plethora of logical fallacy less dangerous if it is not squirming? At what point does it go from squirming to agitated?
And if it is agitated, how long does it take before it become pugnacious?
Can a plethora of logical fallacy become homicidal? If so, would it be charged with first degree murder or second?
More importantly, would Jack McCoy be willing to make a deal?
Thanks Clark… But, Republican, that is NOT a straw man… That is the very argument put forth by all of your right wing radio favorites… Rush, Beck, Hannity, Levin, Bortz, et.al, and thus it is NOT MY straw man… Beck and Hannity are just sure as shootin that one of these terrorists is gonna set off a nuke somewhere… They say it almost every day on their programs… SOOO if you want to attack a straw man, attack one of THOSE clown geeks… NOT ME…. I am merely arguing that IF we have so blasted many troops deployed so far away, we are going to be terribly short handed HERE…. Now, if you guys on the Right have watched too much “24″ that isnt my fault… I have no reason to believe any of the Reich Wing Radio nuts on their premise…BUT… as long as we have troops THERE, we arent as safe as we should be HERE….
And besides, knuckle brain, ALL OF OUR FIGHTING EQUIPMENT WORTH ANYTHING is in another country somewhere….
BTW, we have lost another 15 troops just since Friday!!!
Support our troops… bring them home!!! NOW!!!
BTW, better check your Latin grammar book… I think you got the wrong noun declension, and at least one wrong verb tense… LOL Sorry… couldnt resist… I used to teach that stuff about 25 years ago!!
As for me, morning comes soon, soooo Good Nite, and Good Luck!!!
Yep,
There is a public range at Afton. It’s by the observatory.
It’s open the first and third weekends. Ran by volunteers.
Hank
Republican,
“Actually Chas, one can count the retired military as this is exactly what happened in the first Gulf War.”
Since Republican is such an expert on the military, he will provide the # of the “retired military” that have NOT been called up to serve in the current wars.
And Republican will also explain why the recent “surges” were relatively small.
“Ah, the daily Argumentum ad hominem from ksfoamgull.”
Republican
That has to be the most economically self contradicting post I’ve ever seen.
Garrison Keillor once said “Republicans made their peace with hypocrisy long ago.”
That isn’t political, that’s just perceptive.
Unfortunately that hypocrisy has created a “tax the poor, and the middle class, but never the rich” mentallity that led to the bridge collapse in Minneapolis.
Anyone who tries to defend the Republicans, who gladly spend 10 billion a month on war and murder and no-bid book-cooking embassy projects from hell, (read the headlines today, another soldier convicted of MURDER in Bush’s big-little “war” and talk of Tillman getting snuffed by not-so-friendly friendly fire, and our taxes paying for Phillipinos to get kidnapped and shanghied by Kuwaiti contractors) needs to get some de-brainwashing treatment.
You are blind to your own detriment.
I think I’m gonna like hanging out here for a while…
The only Latin phrase that really works here is “cui bono.”
Lets enumerate the primary beneficiaries…1. Halliburton2. Halliburton3. Halliburtonoh, did I leave out Halliburton?
