Older people can get away with it because that was the PC term for their time…and I think most of the blacks today understand when an older person says it they’re not being demeaning.

I think I”ll probably always say “black”. Because it’s what has been correct as long as I’ve known. I don’t care for the term African American, but I’ll use it in a more formal setting.

For the same reason I call gay people GAY, because that’s what they prefer to be called. I’d never call a gay person ‘queer’ simply because a few of them call each other that. I feel it is derogatory.

I can call myself a ‘feminazi’, a ‘nappy headed ho’… but me calling myself that out of fun is a whole lot different than someone else calling me that.

Same goes with this…The Blue Collar Comedy tour makes their living at poking fun at people who are LIKE themselves…but someone else saying it would take on a whole different meaning.

Mel Reynolds was one Democrat (BTW unfortunately he used to be my Congressman) but this kind of stuff seems to be a monthly thing with the Republicans.

I have never experienced that. When I got out of the USAF, my first job with the phone company was as a service tech in an almost all black part of town and I was in hundreds of homes and never was once mistreated by a customer. And when I worked on Sunday, I was offered Sunday dinner many times and I accepted most of the time. Street people in that neighbourhood would bother us and a few of us got robbed a few times but the residents were always nice.

There are white people that are poor. You see plenty of em down here. And they deserve help as much as anybody else does. I am for affirmative action for poor whites too.

I was not aware that Dr Rice had switched parties. That is the only way she would win a primary. The Repukes sure as hell won’t put a black woman on their ballot for an executive position. Some times they run minority candidates for legislative positions but only as long as the white males who run that party can keep him under tabs.
