Older people can get away with it because that was the PC term for their time...and I think most of the blacks today understand when an older person says it they&#039;re not being demeaning.

I think I&quot;ll probably always say &quot;black&quot;.  Because it&#039;s what has been correct as long as I&#039;ve known.  I don&#039;t care for the term African American, but I&#039;ll use it in a more formal setting.

For the same reason I call gay people GAY, because that&#039;s what they prefer to be called.  I&#039;d never call a gay person &#039;queer&#039; simply because a few of them call each other that.  I feel it is derogatory.

I can call myself a &#039;feminazi&#039;, a &#039;nappy headed ho&#039;... but me calling myself that out of fun is a whole lot different than someone else calling me that.

Same goes with this...The Blue Collar Comedy tour makes their living at poking fun at people who are LIKE themselves...but someone else saying it would take on a whole different meaning.

Carlos Mencia calls himself and hispanics beaners.

When is it ok for a minority to make fun of another minority group?  Is it ok for Carlos Mencia to make fun of retarded people?  I don&#039;t think it is..even if he has said that he&#039;s not making fun of people who are truly disabled, rather than just stupid people...but isn&#039;t that quantifying that retarded people are stupid?  What part of that does he not understand?

		<description>I am a native of Wichita but I lived in Chicago for 14 years and worked for Illinois Bell (service tech) while attending college at Northwestern after the military. I lived in Dolton on the south side for 4 years and then moved to North Sheridan Rd in Rogers Park on the northside. I know Lane Tech is an excellent school and very selective about who gets in. I go back often because my son lives there with his mother. When he was younger, we used to share custody every other year but when he turned 15, he decided to stay there all the time because he was into basketball and had a girlfriend and a part time job. I am going to his H.S. graduation next weekend. Unfortunately my congressman was Mel Reyonolds and, believe it or not, he was better than the jerk we had before Gus Savage. I was glad when I got my job moved to Evanston so I could get out of the southside. Wichita is a hell of a change from Chicago isn&#039;t it? I was telling folks in Chicago about how the bus service in Wichita shuts off at 7PM and they laughed!

Street people in that neighbourhood would bother us and a few of us got robbed a few times but the residents were always nice.
