OK… Mr. Republican… You are just trying to find justifications for Rush’s quotes that there is no such thing as concensus in science, therefore, you refuse to believe what a “concensus” of world scientists believe about climate warming and change… You ALSO make the “talking points” error where you assume because you can find incidents that are NOT examples of global warming, and climate change, that none is happening….
That logic is what makes YOU and Limbaugh, and Hannity, and Drudge, and Levin, and Beck, and all the others, MORONS!!!
And, of course, you hate the U.N., and the Kyoto treaty… Bush only hates it, cause he cant spell it, or pronounce it properly…. what’s YOUR excuse??
And I agree with Clark… Go get your meds checked!!! LOL

Nop Nop…
I never said there wasn’t any Global Warming taking effect. I have always stated that man’s contribution to global warming is negligible. It’s like trying to change the pH of a swimming pool by spitting in it one time.
I have no respect for the UN what so ever. It has been proven many times what a corrupt organization it is and it is primarily used by third would countries to get in good graces with the World Bank.
The Kyoto Treaty was flawed from the very beginning. Even the European Union agree on that.
You need to buy a better subscription at Democrats-R-Us Chas, you’re not getting your money’s worth.
Chas, first post on Open is an “attack” post?
Good job.
…rolleyes…
Now HERE is a black guy that colored folks should choose as a mentor. This guy is a fantastic role-model.
Kudos to newly elected trustee of Dartmouth – Professor Stephen Smith.
[quote]“The path that took me to Hanover almost a quarter of a century ago was anything but ordinary. I grew up in the inner city of Washington, D.C. My mother, who suffered from multiple sclerosis, raised my three siblings and me on her own, relying on public assistance. A black kid growing up on welfare in a broken home—my future, any sociologist would have told you, wouldn’t have included an Ivy League degree or a tenured position at a Top Ten law school.
My mother, however, refused to tolerate self-pity. “You’re a welfare recipient,” she would tell me, “but be the best anyway.” Throughout my youth, my mother repeated that lesson, insisting that I remain in school, taking my education seriously. Be the best. Because I worked hard—and listened to my mother instead of accepting the low expectations of my environment—I had many fine options for college. I chose the best. I chose Dartmouth.
When I learned that I couldn’t use my ROTC scholarship at Dartmouth, I was inclined to attend a different institution so that I could graduate free of debt. Then the Admitted Minority Student Overnight Program offered to pay my airfare to Hanover. The trip was my first to Dartmouth—and only the second time I had ever set foot on a college campus. When I got home, I knew. I had to go to Dartmouth. I had fallen in love with the College.
During my four years in Hanover, my love of Dartmouth grew still deeper. Studying History and Philosophy, my majors; playing freshman football and, for a time, basketball; making friends at my freshman dorm, Richardson Hall, and my fraternity, Sigma Nu: These experiences enabled a shy sixteen year old black kid from a poor neighborhood to acquire a trained mind, self-confidence, and friendships that endure to this day.
Since graduating from the College, I have clerked at the United States Supreme Court, practiced law at leading firms in Washington, D.C., and become a full professor of law at the University of Virginia—all as my wife and I raised our five boys. All that I have achieved—all that I am—the College made possible.
Now I would like to repay my debt to Dartmouth. “[end quote]
You must be quite in advanced age. My grandmother called them “coloured folks”. My parents called them “Negros” and myself, being near 1/2 century on Earth, have always called them “blacks” or “African Americans”.
“Now HERE is a black guy that colored folks should choose as a mentor. This guy is a fantastic role-model.
Kudos to newly elected trustee of Dartmouth – Professor Stephen Smith.”
GSheridan – Thanks for sharing a wonderful story of successful parenting by one parent, hard work, upward mobility and the American dream. It is also a story about the importance of government helping people who – alone – could not dig themselves out of the depths and confines of the poverty into which they are born.
“You must be quite in advanced age. My grandmother called them “coloured folks”. My parents called them “Negros” and myself, being near 1/2 century on Earth, have always called them “blacks” or “African Americans”.”——————
Well, I’m not nearly as old as you are, Kev, but Oprah said it the other day – so I figured it was the ‘in’ term.
And we all have to try to stay up with the times, after all.
Colored folk? Big eye roll.
After using the term lezzie yesterday?
Bigot land. I dont care HOW you spin it. She made disparaging remarks about black culture last week too.
I guess we should be shocked, SHOCKED I say, that a die hard conservative republican would be racist and homophobic?
Shrug. Just another day on the blog with gs.
… and what’s with this “in term” bullshit? That’s exactly what she said about “lezzie”.
Uh, “colored folks” went out in the fifties. And lezzie? heheheheh. Never was the “in term”.
If gs worried a little more about substance, and a little less about the “in term” style, she might post less scroll over territory.
GS, you may be the most bigoted person on the blog since Ian. And at least Ian was funny.
I think you are just baiting with all these disparaging terms about minorities. But it seems you REALLY hate lesbians.
From yesterday:
“Of course, those who are the MOST unhappy about Paris getting a reduced sentence is all the male (or lezzie) wardens who wanted to frisk her daily.”
Posted by: GSheridan | May 18, 2007 at 07:18 AM
And then she defends the use of the term, just like colored folk.
“She whines like a little girl because I used the shortened version “lezzie,” instead of lesbian.
She obviously doesn’t know that’s the “in” term these days and is used by lezzies and straight folks.”snipPosted by: GSheridan | May 18, 2007 at 11:31 AM
I suspected she just googled the term lezzie, and sure enough, she did. Here is my reply:
“Oh jeez, tooooooo funny! Here is a little linky from that google “lezzie” search that gs DIDNT post.

Yep. Bigot land. I guess she thinks it’s cute.
Maybe you better tell Oprah not to use that term then, farmie.
I see your victim Whine-O-meter is registering off the scale this morning.
Menopause?
Well, I’m certainly not surprised that little miss fossil fuels finds gay jokes funny.
Wanna take a look at her greatest hits from this thread?
Keep puffing on the bong, farmgirl.snipPuff…..puff…..puffShit it’s getting smoky in here.Did you catch your mustache on fire?Posted by: GSheridan | February 12, 2007 at 04:36 PM
You go girl, or butch, whichever the case may be.Posted by: GSheridan | February 09, 2007 at 01:04 PM
I can’t quite figure out all her references to lesbianism – maybe she IS a dyke, but are you so PW’ed that you defend her every goofy word?SnipShe’s really not that bright.Posted by: GSheridan | February 15, 2007 at 12:02 PM
AND when Wendy takes her to task:
“And by the way, GS, two little points for you – 1) KFG has made it rather clear MANY times that, yes, she is a lesbian and 2) use of a term like “dyke” is morally offensive to me, and do it again and I will be happy to report you for it!!”
GS responds with this:
Ok – so I get it – Farmie’s a lesbo. Big deal. Perhaps that explains her constant rabid anger towards everyone who doesn’t agree with her – but it doesn’t mean she is due any special treatment. She isn’t.As long as she continues to dish it out – I’ll dish it right back. She better grow a tougher skin if she wants to play in the big girl’s pond.Maybe she feels “oppressed,” by the lack of approval from society, and lashes out. I couldn’t care less.I don’t dislike her because she is a lesbian. She can quit wallowing in her victim mentality anytime she chooses. For some reason she seems to define herself by her sexuality – you don’t hear the rest of us going around making jokes that “we’re straight.”The only lesbians I know are not nearly as nasty. I’ll bet they would be ashamed to call her – one of their own.
Wendy’s reply?
And, GS, I am still finding the “lesbo” references offensive. We prefer not to resort to deragatory name calling here (or at least I do) so, if you want to make reference to her sexuality, call her a lesbian… otherwise, the gloves are off, and you really don’t want to hear the names i can think of for you… And small wonder that she identifies herself by her sexuality – when people like you keep shoving it in her face…Posted by: Wendy | February 15, 2007 at 03:17 PM
KSagnostic – no, I didn’t know her sexual preference – but she kept making lesbian comment, after lesbian comment. After we were all informed that she was, indeed, a lesbo – it became obvious she defines herself that way.Idiot.Posted by: GSheridan | February 15, 2007 at 03:12 PM
Wendy Replies to the term dyke:
“okay, golfnut, since you insist on being deliberately obtuse – from webster’s dictionary:”Main Entry: 2dykeVariant(s): also dike /’dIk/Function: nounEtymology: origin unknownoften disparaging : LESBIAN- dykey /’dI-kE/ adjective, often disparaging “Please make not of the “often disparaging” portion of the definition. And, GS, I am still finding the “lesbo” references offensive. GS’s thoughtful reply to Wendy:Jesus Christ on a Corndog, Windy – you seem to find all kinds of words offensive.I’m not the one who kept posting about lesbians – over and over and over – she did. Thread after thread.Until you ‘outed’ her – I wasn’t sure if she was one. Just thought she had a hangup about lesbo’s.snipPosted by: GSheridan | February 15, 2007 at 03:25 PM
Yep, no one should be surprised that GS thinks ann coulter is harmless….
I’m not too put out GS, I’ve been called a everything but white woman and I’ve been told to my face that because I’m “white”, I’m wasn’t welcome in a black house…even if I’m there to provide care for someone who desparately needs it.It seems like the ones who cry discrimination are ususally the first to discriminate against others based on their race.I don’t care what “color” a person is, if the first thing you see when you look at someone is the color of their skin, then you’re a prejudiced bigot.
Let’s see, she hated Oprah, Rosie, Hillary, Farmie, what is the pattern there?
You figure it out.
Bigot land. No surprise there.
Put away the victim crap gs. Is that wingnut standard response number, um, seven?
Goodness – did somebody wake up on the wrong side of the bed this morning?
ROFLMAO
Farmie is obsessed with me – of that there is NO DOUBT.
Seriously, farmfap, I’m in a terrific mood this day, and I graciously hope you have a good day, too.
Always trying to stir the pot.
Always whining.
Always crying about one imagined slight or another.
Now you’re posting my statements from MONTHS ago?
I’m surprised you have so much time on your hands when you have lonely cafe to sling hash for today. It IS open today, isn’t it?
Hey, maybe I’ll post some of your stuff from long ago, too. That should be interesting. lol
So Mary, you approve of gs words?
I agree with you, Mary, but farmie’s just in one of her whiny moods – I LOVE Oprah. Keep in mind – that just pretending people don’t have different challenges because they are colored – doesn’t mean that they don’t.
Hey – my pick for President in 2008 is Condileeza.
FArmie – help me out here….
…what do the initials NAACP stand for?
Kelly, you’re very welcome. I loved the story, too.
What I got from it – is that people can rise above their circumstances in life IF they do not allow themselves to be bogged down by a victim mentality.
The good professor is a super example.
I think he would have made it no matter what.
I printed his speech out and am sending it to my friends and relatives.
Not Another Arrogant Conservative President ?
Why don’t all of us make a pact that – whatever else we may call each other (Americans? Patriots?) – we all agree not to discuss what each other does with consenting adults in the bedroom. Why the hell would anyone else want to know? It is beneath the dignity of educated people to resort to such ugliness.
Here’s some more RECENT words of yours gs.
“Hmmmmm…I wouldn’t enjoy it if farmie was there. She scares the crap outta me. I’d always be afraid she’d be lurking around the corner waiting to catch me and sit on me. Jeezus – she’s squish me flat. Now you really got me scared.”Posted by: GSheridan | May 18, 2007 at 08:15 PM
Hey, JM – did our forefathers fight and die for it for black people too?Posted by: GSheridan | May 18, 2007 at 08:36 PM
Thanks for making my point GS. The NAACP was founded a loooooong time ago.
But please continue to say it is the new “in” term. Big eye roll.
I love this new republican meme about the poor persecuted victims of racism. The majority white folks.
I guess white folks too can play the poor pitiful victim card without hesitation.
After reading gs and repuke on yesterday’s open thread, I can only quote another blogger:
As a group, the 25%ers are growing dangerously unstable.Whether you encounter them at the office, or you hear them call into cspan, the 25% that STILL support bush and his insane war are growing ever more unstable. You often hear republicans who are pissed at bush and his policies, didn’t used to hear from those folks at all until recently, but the stalwart to a fault 25%ers, (an ever decreasing percentage) are hanging on to every fantasy, every phony buzz phrase, every delusion beyond all logic and reason.
You can hear real desperation and rage in their voices, worse than their usual vitriol, they sound as if zombies were clawing at their kitchen doors. They’re starting to really worry me, the poor things.
These types of people are harmless enough individually, but as a collective group they are more than just annoying, they start to become scary, and alarming.
If they can witness the same atrocities we’ve witnessed and STILL support the maniacal neo cons, despite every treason and tyranny and war crime and scandal, then I assume they are mentally unstable, dangerous to themselves and others, and must be watched and monitored. They are not invaders from Mars, they are your brothers and sisters and moms and dads and neighbors, they’re everywhere.
I fear what they could be made to do by our unscrupulous, hell-bent for glory ‘leaders’. “
KFG — I too am appalled at what I am seeing coming from the Right Wing, whether it be the religious right, political right, or otherwise… I too find it pretty scary… It is an atmosphere of FEAR gone haywire…
Now, just to be fair, I also hear some of this coming from the Left of all varieties… But not with the same intensity of HATRED and FEAR mongering, as to accuse people of WANTING terrorists to strike in America, etc., that I hear from the Right Wing…
No KSFG, I don’t agree with GS, but I hear it so much from every aspect of humanity it doesn’t shock me at all.Mankind can’t seem to get past our tribal nature..it’s really part of our evolution to be put off by anyone who is different from us..we fear what we don’t understand or are not familiar and comfortable with, and we hate what we fear. Some of us have just evolved more than others when it comes to this aspect of human behavior. It takes work, self examination, insight, risk, and an open mind..it’s no wonder so many struggle with it.
PS for years I tried to get my mom (who is 94 now) too quit saying the word “colored” when she referred to black people. She insisted it was the way she was rasied and she had no control over it. I had to accept the fact that if she wants to appear ignorant and uneducated, that’s her problem not mine..and I let go of it. Some people, no matter what their race, are just determnined to stay stupid.
A BIG AMEN to that Mary!!!
Chas = Yet another Fister in disguise.
I actually met a real African American once…downtown Philadelphia, the guy was from Sierra Leone, and was a naturalized citizen. In my opinion, anyone else calling themselves a hyphenated anything is just an affectation.
Guess it is not just me…
“In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin.
But, this is predicated upon the person’s becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American…
There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn’t an American at all.”
Theodore Roosevelt 1907
Mary
I’m a little surprised that you would state or imply that you’re Mom is / might be ignorant, uneducated and stupid …..
She probably wasn’t as fortunate as you (and I) to get an education / upbringing that would allow her to be able to logically allow her to “..get past our tribal nature… ” doesn’t make her stupid or uneducated — just a product of the environment she was raised in
She obviously was smart enough to raise an intelligent, articulate and fair minded woman ….
People of my parents age who grew up in a segregated Kansas were part of the whisper groups that used the “N” word in various forms. Nothing to be proud of and glad it is phasing out.
I’ve also have heard of the term “lezzie”, but in verbal usage not spelled out – sort of a Kansas colloquialism.
I’ve also have heard the polite term “sisters” when older Kansas folks talked about Lesbians. My grandmother used to comment on how the “sisters” down the road made such nice jams and jellies. I asked her one day if the sisters would like to join us for dinner on Mother’s day to celebrate the memory of their mother. My grandmother looked at me like “what planet are you from?” It wasn’t until then that I caught the drift of what the term actually meant.
When I was stationed in Texas, I was pretty sure that not a single Texan could say the word Mexican without pronouncing it mess-kin.
Had some Southern relatives that would say the word Negroes as Nigras. I always winced at the pronunciation as it sounded too much like the other “N” word.
The term “queer” was pretty much in vogue for most of my childhood until it became politically incorrect I think in the 1980s when the AIDS virus was being recognized as deadly. Then the proper term homosexual was used until “Gay” became popular.
It was really funny to listen to some of the people my parents age say the word homosexual. It was like they were sounding it out for a spelling bee (ho-mo-sex-u-al)
A term that Okies of the older generation can identify with was calling any male Native American “Chief.”
There are more antiquated terms I’m sure, but the term “lezzie” as a pronunciation word is not knew to me – the spelling of it, but not the spoken.
So Mary,
I would guess by the lofty standards you seem to hold your mother to anyone that is a member of the NAACP is “ignorant and uneducated”!
Hank
Actually colored was the commonly used and no offensive way of saying that about people of African decent back in those days.
I still say black and I know an old timer that says Negro.
I know it’s PC to say African-American, but if you look at any employment EEO form or any other government document, from right down to the Census. They still label the race Black.
OMG, this is TOO funny. I love the smell of wingnuts flaming each other. heheheheheheh.
The wingnuts here use the f word, so if you dont want to read it, dont click.
The rest of you should find this hysterical. Especially the comments!
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132×3271008
Well, let’s see Republican… You have lashed out at Native Americans, Blacks, Gays, and a number of others… Sounds to me like you belong in that great American category of the Archie Bunkers of this world… BIGOTS!!
KFG — Thats CLASSIC!!!
Ummm Republican??? Just what is a Fister??? I dont believe I am familiar with that term…
Guess I am not as well versed in Bigotry as Republican…
Strange thought just occurred to me… For these reich wingers, who like to throw around obsolete bigot language, and racial tags, this BLOG makes a wonderful white sheet to cover them…
In actuality, it would be proper to refer to people in the manner that THEY choose, not your choice.
My a’parents referred to African-Americans as colored boys and girls, regardless of their ages. That was better than my Uncle, who referred to Blacks with the N word.
I have no problem calling people of any race, color, creed or sexual orientation by the name that they choose.
It’s just a matter of respect.
And you know what they say about respect – you can’t receive respect unless you give respect.
Republican,
“I have always stated that man’s contribution to global warming is negligible. It’s like trying to change the pH of a swimming pool by spitting in it one time.”
Co2 causes between 9 to 26% of Earth’s greenhouse effect.
Humans “spitting” has caused CO2 to rise from 280 ppm (pre-1750) to about 380 ppm today.
I wouldn’t want to swim in that “pool”…
That CO2 rise has increased radiative forcing (RF) by about 1.6 Watts per square meter. And it’s still rising, because we are still “spitting”.
For comparison the direct RF due to increase of solar irradiance is estimated at between 0.06 to 0.30 W/m2 — a much smaller amount.
CO2 data from multiple sites worldwide, and ice cores,http://cdiac.ornl.gov/trends/co2/contents.htm
Humans have also caused large increases in other GHG’s — methane, nitrous oxide, CFC’s and HFC’s.
See Chapt 2, ‘Changes in Atmospheric Constituents and in Radiative Forcing’http://ipcc-wg1.ucar.edu/wg1/wg1-report.html
Or the FAQ, or ‘Summary for Policymakers’
Haven’t lashed out at anyone Chas. I just told my and older generations experience with certain words.
Like it or lump it, I don’t care.
I’ll put on a white sheet if it makes you feel all warm and fuzzy. Perhaps a Pink T-shirt underneath, with some Kerry Hair.
How’s that suit ya?
Co2 causes between 9 to 26% of Earth’s greenhouse effect.
That’s correct Cosmos, now tell everyone what percentage of man-made CO2 contributes to the total
Republican,
Don’t you even understand that what’s relevant is the change in radiative forcing more CO2 causes?
And I ALREADY gave that:Human-added CO2 = about +1.6 W/m2Changes in solar = about +0.06 to +0.30 W/m2
cosmos,
Interesting statistic. . .”Co2 causes between 9 to 26% of Earth’s greenhouse effect.”
Nice to know that they can predict the future temperature change to .01 degree but can’t get the present effects of CO2 in closer than that.
Now did they come up with that wide percentage range scientifically or did it need to be that wide to get a concensus?
Just wondering.
Hank
I love the smell of wingnuts roasting….
Hank,
The wide range isn’t precision related, it’s due to overlaps with other GHG’s. Explained at,http://www.realclimate.org/index.php/archives/2005/04/water-vapour-feedback-or-forcing/
And scientists do not “predict the future temperature change to .01 degree”.
They make projections for different scenarios of CO2, etc.
If the Arctic ice melts faster than they project, oceans absorb less CO2 sooner, large amounts of GHG’s are released from thawing permafrost, etc, the temperature will rise faster, and sooner than the models project.
That’s the “tipping point”, where natural positive feedbacks force the climate to warm — and humans cannot stop it.
Why is it that Republicans cannot seem to have sex with somebody of their own age? Why do they always like to sleep with children and teenagers? I would never send my kids to be pages as long as they are in charge. Here is yet another Republican pervert child rapist caught:PIERRE, S.D. (AP) – A former state House member was arrested Friday on charges of rape and other sexual offenses against two teen girls.
Republican Ted A. Klaudt surrendered at the Corson County Sheriff’s office. He did not enter a plea during two court appearances, and bond was set at $100,000. He was taken to jail and declined to comment as he left the courtroom.
The charges against him include eight counts of second-degree rape, two counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, one count of sexual contact with a child younger than 16, two counts of witness tampering and one count of stalking. Some of the rape charges carry penalties of up to 50 years in prison.
The accusers were aged 15 to 19 over the years the crimes are to have occurred. One girl was molested when she was a legislative page, authorities allege.
“Why is it that Republicans cannot seem to have sex with somebody of their own age? Why do they always like to sleep with children and teenagers?”————
ROFLMAO
Project much?
Why is it I posted a really nice story about a man who overcame all odds and the only thing some here could do was attack my choice of words?
Doesn’t anyone care anymore about real life accomplishments?
That story inspired me.
Too bad others didn’t get the message in it.
You find it funny that grown men are sexually abusing children?
Kev,”My parents called them “Negros” and myself, being near 1/2 century on Earth, have always called them “blacks” or “African Americans”.”
I’ve been around for 62 years, and my parents and I always referred to them as “people.”
Wors President ever.Carter: Bush’s impact ‘worst in history’ 39 minutes ago
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Former President Carter says President Bush’s administration is “the worst in history” in international relations, taking aim at the White House’s policy of pre-emptive war and its Middle East diplomacy.
ADVERTISEMENTThe criticism from Carter, which a biographer says is unprecedented for the 39th president, also took aim at Bush’s environmental policies and the administration’s “quite disturbing” faith-based initiative funding.
“I think as far as the adverse impact on the nation around the world, this administration has been the worst in history,” Carter told the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette in a story that appeared in the newspaper’s Saturday editions. “The overt reversal of America’s basic values as expressed by previous administrations, including those of George H.W. Bush and Ronald Reagan and Richard Nixon and others, has been the most disturbing to me.”
Carter spokeswoman Deanna Congileo confirmed his comments to The Associated Press on Saturday and declined to elaborate. He spoke while promoting his new audiobook series, “Sunday Mornings in Plains,” a collection of weekly Bible lessons from his hometown of Plains, Ga.
“Apparently, Sunday mornings in Plains for former President Carter includes hurling reckless accusations at your fellow man,” said Amber Wilkerson, Republican National Committee spokeswoman. She said it was hard to take Carter seriously because he also “challenged Ronald Reagan’s strategy for the Cold War.”
Carter came down hard on the Iraq war.
“We now have endorsed the concept of pre-emptive war where we go to war with another nation militarily, even though our own security is not directly threatened, if we want to change the regime there or if we fear that some time in the future our security might be endangered,” he said. “But that’s been a radical departure from all previous administration policies.”
Carter, who won a Nobel Peace Prize in 2002, criticized Bush for having “zero peace talks” in Israel. Carter also said the administration “abandoned or directly refuted” every negotiated nuclear arms agreement, as well as environmental efforts by other presidents.
Carter also offered a harsh assessment for the White House’s Office of Faith-Based and Community Initiatives, which helped religious charities receive $2.15 billion in federal grants in fiscal year 2005 alone.
“The policy from the White House has been to allocate funds to religious institutions, even those that channel those funds exclusively to their own particular group of believers in a particular religion,” Carter said. “As a traditional Baptist, I’ve always believed in separation of church and state and honored that premise when I was president, and so have all other presidents, I might say, except this one.”
Douglas Brinkley, a Tulane University presidential historian and Carter biographer, described Carter’s comments as unprecedented.
“This is the most forceful denunciation President Carter has ever made about an American president,” Brinkley said. “When you call somebody the worst president, that’s volatile. Those are fighting words.”
Carter also lashed out Saturday at British prime minister Tony Blair. Asked how he would judge Blair’s support of Bush, the former president said: “Abominable. Loyal. Blind. Apparently subservient.”
“And I think the almost undeviating support by Great Britain for the ill-advised policies of President Bush in Iraq have been a major tragedy for the world,” Carter told British Broadcasting Corp. radio.
I remember Carter’s Peace settlement in which he got a Nobel Prize. After a couple of years, his diplomacy turned to crap.
How did that work out for President Carter?
“Why is it that Republicans cannot seem to have sex with somebody of their own age? Why do they always like to sleep with children and teenagers?”
One example and a charge of ALWAYS referring to all Republicans?
The lack of logic here boggles the mind. That is like saying one bank robber drove a Ford, so therefore everyone driving a Ford is a bank robber.
The “argument” is lacking, childish and flat out ridiculous.
Repub — It is an exercise in futility, and an assault to my intelligence, to attempt to get a point across to you… So, I tell you what… You just keep on going through life thinking all these people that you DISS all the time, enjoy your choice of words, “because you think it is the word they want to be called”. And when some of THOSE FOLKS come down hard on you, you can tell them that THEY are supposed to like your references, because YOU BELIEVE they want you to call them by those identifying words… I am part Native American, and if you or anybody, called me Chief, I might could have an adverse reaction… I dont even think that kind of thing is CUTE…
And, while you are at it, keep this in mind… EVERYBODY has some kind of “color” So, I guess that makes ALL of us colored people, doesnt it??
I guess we will have to remember from now on, to make sure we all call Republican a colored person…
An idea for a solution to the immigration problem:
Every company that has illegal on their payroll, gets to pick which ones (and their immediate families) they want to keep, (no criminal charges to the companies) and pays a fine / fee (5-10k ?? per person) to the local taxing agencies to provide support to the school districts and social service agencies needed ……. they also pay for English and citizenship classes (no immediate citizenship — they get in line like all the others applying for citizenship) for those folks …… …… they must agree to pay a minimum / livable wage and provide some sort of health benefit .. …. every one else is deported, even those in jail / prison —- then we need to get tough with Mexico, sanctions on them until they clean up their corrupt government and institutions —- (OK we have to work on ours too) ….. and close the border ………………….. you want to come here, get a visa or work permit authorized by a company hiring you .. that will force companies to recruit in Mexico and bear the cost of bringing in workers —— …. then maybe when wages are reasonable more American workers will be happy to take those jobs they say Americans don’t want to do ……
I — for one, would prefer being called an American, or called by my title… I think most people could buy into that…
As for me, its Saturday, so I will say to all of you, Good Night, and Good Luck!!!
States Ban Catfish Imports From China Over Tests
http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=10141686
Catfish imports from China are causing economic and health concerns in the South. Tests on some frozen catfish fillets from China have found two antibiotics banned by the Food and Drug Administration.Alabama has banned catfish from China, after it determined that the fillets contained the antibiotics. Mississippi has halted store sales of the imported fish; Louisiana and Arkansas plan to test all catfish imported from China.

Based on Kev’s “logic” above, I could take the following:
Rep. Mel Reynolds, D-Ill., was sentenced in 1995 to five years in prison for having sex with an underage campaign worker.
And extrapolate it to say ALL DEMOCRATS ARE ALWAYS sex fiends?
Obviously, it is not true..but, does Kev see that? Probably not..his blinders are one sided.
People who prey on children belong to only one classification – the class of those who are incarcerted for years – and the scorn of this enire planet.
Is China staging terrorist attacks on the unsuspecting U.S.?
“Hey – my pick for President in 2008 is Condileeza”
I was not aware that Dr Rice had switched parties. That is the only way she would win a primary. The Repukes sure as hell won’t put a black woman on their ballot for an executive position. Some times they run minority candidates for legislative positions but only as long as the white males who run that party can keep him under tabs.
“I love this new republican meme about the poor persecuted victims of racism. The majority white folks.
I guess white folks too can play the poor pitiful victim card without hesitation.”
There are white people that are poor. You see plenty of em down here. And they deserve help as much as anybody else does. I am for affirmative action for poor whites too.
That is true. My grandmother certainly was not prejudiced being an Osage and she called them “coloured folks” and refered to NE Wichita as “coloured town”. She worked downtown for years with black people and loved them as much as they loved her and they were in our house on many occassions. But that term is reserved for those over 80 today.
“I’m not too put out GS, I’ve been called a everything but white woman and I’ve been told to my face that because I’m “white”, I’m wasn’t welcome in a black house…even if I’m there to provide care for someone who desparately needs it.”
I have never experienced that. When I got out of the USAF, my first job with the phone company was as a service tech in an almost all black part of town and I was in hundreds of homes and never was once mistreated by a customer. And when I worked on Sunday, I was offered Sunday dinner many times and I accepted most of the time. Street people in that neighbourhood would bother us and a few of us got robbed a few times but the residents were always nice.

Mel Reynolds was one Democrat (BTW unfortunately he used to be my Congressman) but this kind of stuff seems to be a monthly thing with the Republicans.

Prove it – show some sources.
I want everyone to think really hard about all those toys that are now made in China, that probably have lead levels unchecked.
is that the potential correlation with autism and ADHD increases?
Imagine that Benjamin Franklin could talk to the thousands of scientists worldwide who have researched human-caused climate change.
Such as the almost 200 American scientists who wrote http://ipcc-wg1.ucar.edu/wg1/wg1-report.html
And imagine Franklin toured their facilities at NASA, NOAA, Scripps, and many U.S.A. universities, such as MIT.
According to Republican, Franklin would say this about anyone who believed all of those peer-reviewed scientists:
“Those God belittling British Loyalists like Cosmos appear to have accepted the word of the Crown without once realizing the inappropriate deeds of their despicable actions.”
Are almost 200 credentialed American scientists “British Loyalists”?
“God belittling”? Will God adjust a “thermostat”, to prevent humans from altering Earth’s climate? Doesn’t look like it, because Earth IS warming.
We need to tighten controls on what we’re importing from China. They are selling things so cheap because they can get by with unsafe procedures and manufacturing.
ADHD
The “disability” that parents use as an excuse to avoid actual parenting.
Sigh. Denial of a disablity that is known, defined, and could be managed effectively is the sign of a poor, brutal, parent who pretends that THEY have all the answers. They also end up harming their children in the end because of their own bullheadedness.
There was a non-scientist talking about how Kansas will lose sunflowers and cottonwood trees and turn into a complete barren desert because of man made global warming. I think they said in the next 5 years this will happen. I need to find the link.
Other than that.
Here you go cosmos:

Or, those parents could PROactively manage kids who occasionally lose interest in school, church or positive behavior by aggressively seeking alternatives that keep their attention. For my kid, it was competitive swimming. =)
No drugs, no labels, no excuses, no “victim”.

Native of Chicago?
Northside (Logan Square) — Lane Tech Class of 65
…. was back there from 96 – 06, lived near Belmont & Central for a bit — then a condo at 9th & State
AF Retired in 87, at McConnell 75-79 — been back here a little over a year …..
Get back there often?
I am a native of Wichita but I lived in Chicago for 14 years and worked for Illinois Bell (service tech) while attending college at Northwestern after the military. I lived in Dolton on the south side for 4 years and then moved to North Sheridan Rd in Rogers Park on the northside. I know Lane Tech is an excellent school and very selective about who gets in. I go back often because my son lives there with his mother. When he was younger, we used to share custody every other year but when he turned 15, he decided to stay there all the time because he was into basketball and had a girlfriend and a part time job. I am going to his H.S. graduation next weekend. Unfortunately my congressman was Mel Reyonolds and, believe it or not, he was better than the jerk we had before Gus Savage. I was glad when I got my job moved to Evanston so I could get out of the southside. Wichita is a hell of a change from Chicago isn’t it? I was telling folks in Chicago about how the bus service in Wichita shuts off at 7PM and they laughed!
Late entry:The NAACP is and old organiztion with an outdated name, Hank…the term “colored” is demeaning today, besides, everyone is “colored” or else you couldn’t see them.Yes, My mother was uneducated and not very smart…nothing to be ashamed, in her generation, many didn’t finsh school because other things were more important in those days, like working so your family wouldn’t starve. Kids often worked to help support their families. One the other note, there are many who simply have average or below intelligence…today’s world can be a real challenge for them.
From my spelling and gramatical errors in that last post it’s obvious I’m pretty challenged also!
“The NAACP is and old organiztion with an outdated name, Hank…the term “colored” is demeaning today, besides, everyone is “colored” or else you couldn’t see them.”————-
So – why does Oprah use the term?
The NAACP could always change their name – like K-Mart and Kentucky Fried Chicken did. They don’t seem pressed to, although.
The term ‘colored’ is still very acceptable, no matter if you have been listening to the new fads or not.
Your mother may have been smarter than you’re giving her credit for.
BTW – “black” folks are not really black.
The term “colored” is not acceptable to black culture unless blacks use it to address each other or talk about their own. Many black people call each other “niggers” also, but if you’re not black and call someone a “nigger”, it takes on a whole different meaning and is seen as a huge insult. Believe me, Oprah isn’t seen as the spokesperson for the African American race.I can tell by the way you think and the things you say that you don’t get up close and personal with any blacks or are familar with their culture.By the way, we’re not “white” either, it’s just a term to describe a caucasian, the same way “black” describes a decendent from Africa.I have an idea for you GS, if you don’t believe me, why don’t you approach a black person and refer to them as “colored” sometime and see what kind of reaction you get?
Why don’t we just refer to people as they wish to be called? Sounds simple to me to do that, rather than having white people decide what to call African Americans, etc.
For people our age, the term “colored” is unacceptable, period.
Older people can get away with it because that was the PC term for their time…and I think most of the blacks today understand when an older person says it they’re not being demeaning.
I think I”ll probably always say “black”. Because it’s what has been correct as long as I’ve known. I don’t care for the term African American, but I’ll use it in a more formal setting.
For the same reason I call gay people GAY, because that’s what they prefer to be called. I’d never call a gay person ‘queer’ simply because a few of them call each other that. I feel it is derogatory.
I can call myself a ‘feminazi’, a ‘nappy headed ho’… but me calling myself that out of fun is a whole lot different than someone else calling me that.
Same goes with this…The Blue Collar Comedy tour makes their living at poking fun at people who are LIKE themselves…but someone else saying it would take on a whole different meaning.
Carlos Mencia calls himself and hispanics beaners.
When is it ok for a minority to make fun of another minority group? Is it ok for Carlos Mencia to make fun of retarded people? I don’t think it is..even if he has said that he’s not making fun of people who are truly disabled, rather than just stupid people…but isn’t that quantifying that retarded people are stupid? What part of that does he not understand?
I agree, why do we have to classify people at all, we’re all just human..like I said before, if the first thing you see when you look at a person is the color of their skin, then you need to look inside and try to figure out what your problem is.That goes for everyone.
Colored People by DC Talk
Pardon me, your epidermis is showing, sirI couldnt help but note your shade of melaninI tip my hat to the colorful arrangementCause I see the beauty in the tones of our skin
