Gitmo is an embarrassment and disgrace

Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., introduced legislation to close the military prison at Guantanamo Bay. President Bush isn’t very interested in closing the facility, even though some of his closest allies, including Defense Secretary Robert Gates, have advised it. But as a recent New York Times editorial noted, the facility is “an ugly stain on this country’s long tradition of respect for the rule of law and an endless propaganda bonanza for America’s enemies.”

George W. Bush and his neocons and Israel and their Zionists have a agenda which does not serve the United States.

The torture at Guantanamo Bay mirrors “Facillity 1391″ in Israel and the techniques perfected there found their way to Abu Ghraib in Iraq.

All this, and the so-called “war of Terror” has been Marketed { sold } to the American People under false pretences.

    The results: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18515265/

    And the beat goes on…

Had it not been for the stain of the Guantanamo Bay torture facility, the mind of George W. Bush might not have been so glaringly displayed.

Guantanamo Bay offers the proof which otherwise would be suspect about his deranged mental process.

In that respect, it’s a blessing.

That doesn’t excuse him from the hundreds of thousands he has murdered, nor the millions he’s displaced, but does give us insight into the workings of such reasoning.

Gee – we used to round up our own citizens (Nazi and Japanese) and put them in war camps – made of little more than barbed wire and tents – but they didn’t bitch and went on with their lives nicely after the war.

We’ve used temporary POW camps that paled in comparison to the nuances of Gitmo.

Wanting to close it – is simply more pointy-hat liberal nonsense.

The tribunals have been upheld, the folks there were detained because their activities were suspiciously contrary to the good of the United States.

The only REAL embarrassment is from the Milquetoast crew that can’t seem to swallow the fact that we’re in a conflict and there are folks out there who would be happy to see our destruction.

We didn’t create these folks – their kind have been around since the dawn of time.

If we tear down Gitmo – we’ll have to build another facility to hold them.

    Does that make sense?

    Sheesh

The internment camps like the one that was outside of Bakersfield Calf. Are still a black eye to this country. I will disagree that they simply just went on with their lives, as to the American/Japanese their only crime was looking different, having a oriental sounding name.

We of a American/Germany decent did have it easier, for the most part it was a matter of simply being shunned. People did not talk to you if you had a German surname, in my personal family history my Grandfather, father, uncle and aunt all have two birth certificates. One with the true family name and one with the surname of “Cody”. Grandpa did that at the outset of WWII, after seeing the effect that the family name had on how people dealt with them.

“Imperial power?” What’s up with that?

    Hate America?

    No, I love my country.

That’s why I don’t like seeing what has become so overt under Commander Cod-Piece: the US as an occupying power.

When France took over Indo-China and Morocco, what was it called? When England occupied India and Hong Kong and Malaya and Burma and Kenya, what was it called? When Italy conquered East Africa, Spain in Mexico and Cuba and the Phillipines, Belgium in the Congo, Russia in Eastern Europe . . .

    We called it imperialism.

As long as the US continues to occupy a country that wants us to leave, we continue to be an imperialistic power.

In fact, A MAJORITY of both countries–Iraq and the US–want the US out of Iraq.

One could make a strong case that our own government is an imperial power within our own country. It has taken power against the will of its own people.

That’s why the opposition party won so decisively in the last election.

And will win again in the next one . . .

    Get used to it.

So now GSheridan has the hots for torture. And the tone of moral self-righteousness to go with it. Big shock.

Torture is un-American. Period. Why do GSheridan and her bloodthristy ilk hate America?

Oh, and GSheridan, I’ve BEEN to concentration camps: Auschwitz-Birkenau and Dachau thus far. Unspeakable, confounding places, predicated on a denial of their prisoners’ and victims’ humanity.

And when three of the prisoners we interned at Gitmo hung themselves, what was the Administration’s reponse? That their act constituted an “attack on America” and was a “good PR move.”

    http://www.cnn.com/2006/WORLD/americas/06/12/guantanamo.suicides/

In other words, the same denial of humanity and responsibility.

    BG,

And I call it a good way to destroy our standing as a civilized nation that upholds the rule of law. Not to mention a good way to bolster Al Qaeda recruiting.

Oh, and it was THREE prisoners who hung themselves. And they hadn’t been convicted of anything as yet.

You don’t need to be a rocket scientist to see who the enemy within happens to be. They could care less about American values.

I call hanging a couple of those bastards an even better start.

The enemy is here all right, but it’s not al-Qaida. That’s the smokescreen which the Zionists hide behind.

You are a foul and evil excuse for a human being, GSheridan.

First: You characterize innocent American citizens of German ancestry as “Nazi.”

Second: You dismiss the deplorable conditions in the internment camps, then claim “they didn’t bitch.” Outrageous! You turn a deaf ear and a blind eye to the suffering and loss suffered by loyal American citizens, and claim your lack of compassion is *their* fault.

    Disgusting. You nauseate me.

Remember they murder their prisoners or stone them to death.. cut off peoples hands.. so excuse me if I don’t believe that Gitmo is the reason we look bad to them and who cares about other country’s.. Take a look at France, they just elected a President that wants to be Americas best friend..

Until we wake up as a nation and see this war we are in really is we don’t have a chance. Seek out and talk with some of the men coming back from Iraq. Our enemy there is not the freedom seeking Iraqi population. No, it is the insurgent, the terrorists, the bully who will take on any persona he has to in order to kill and maim as many people, American or Iraqi, as they can.

This is an enemy who isn’t identifiable by a uniform, doesn’t fight with honor but hides road side bombs to kill any innocent who happens along, and ambushes from school, hospitals, anywhere they can be sure they won’t be fired back at.

Gitmo is a prison. Is everyone there guilty? Probably not. All who have toured this facility come back with reports about the clean conditions, availability of Korans and prayer rugs for the detainees. In other words the conditions are not deplorable.

We are holding these prisoners because for some reason they have come to the attention of the intelligence community.

Is it a perfect system? Obviously not. War isn’t perfect. It is horrendous. We are fighting an enemy like none we have seen before. We must have the ability to detain and question these detainees. It’s an ugly business but turning your head and refusing to see Gitmo for what it is won’t solve the problem. This is the attitude that scares the voters on the right side of the aisle to death.

    BG,

And the stupidest thing I’ve heard you say is that the terrorists just hate us, because. Get real. Use your brain. Read some history.

CF2K detests the world view of the Taliban and Al Qaeda. Period. It has no redeeming qualities. But he also rejects any claim that our presence in the Middle East, our occupation of Iraq, and our use of torture and other illegal tactics to enforce our will are unrelated to the growth and spread of Islamic fundamentalism and terror.

One doesn’t achieve victory over Islamic fundamentalism by the exclusively military means employed thus far. The way these have been used have actually made the problem worse. And when America uses torture and illegal detention as in Gitmo, it alienates the moderate elements within Islam who otherwise would be our allies.

The Palestinians were having their land stolen by the Jews and the Arabs went to war with the Jews, but thanks to US support of the Jews, the Arabs were defeated. Truce lines were drawn at the green line.

The Jews have steadily encroached on that border and that’s the problem.

If the Jews withdraw to the green line and we set-up an independent Palestinian State, it’s over.

The Arab League has agreed to it.

The Jews refuse, and there’s the rub.

“The Jews have steadily encroached on that border and that’s the problem.

If the Jews withdraw to the green line and we set-up an independent Palestinian State, it’s over.”—————

    That’s entirely untrue.

From day one – the Palis, along with other Arab entities were enraged that the Jews were given a state after Hitler’s attempt to annihilate them fell short.

Granted, Israel was created out of collective guilt from those of us in the civilized world who regretted not responding soon enough – or fierce enough to save more, but the lines the UN drew in the sand were NOT acceptable to the Arabs.

Just before Sharon fell ill, he actually razed the homes of Jewish settlers in the West Bank and he was returning land to the Palis.

What you are saying – comes VERY close to the anti-semitic overtones heard by those who hold up the Protocol of the Learned Elders of Zion, as a warning to any who accept Israel.

You’re treading a dangerous, and deceptive path, my friend.

Israel is no angel – but it’s better than what surrounds it.

Kgrm says, “We are fighting an enemy like none we have seen before.”

    Uh, excuse me?

Al Qaeda is exactly typical of low-level murder and mayhem to harass a much more powerful occupying force.

U of Chicago professor and military historian Robert Pape concludes in his book _Dying to Win_, “The bottom line, then, is that suicide terrorism is mainly a response to foreign occupation. Isolated instances in other circumstances do occur. Religion plays a role. However, modern suicide terrorism is best understood as an extreme strategy for national liberation against democracies with troops that pose an imminent threat to control the territory the terrorists view as their homeland.”

You can see this in Vietnam, Morocco against the French, disenfranchised Muslims against the US installed puppet government of Lebanon, Palestinians against Israel, the Kurds in Turkey, Tamil Tigers in Sri Lanka, the Irish Republican Army against the English, Al Qaeda against Russia in Afghanistan when they were our “allies.”

Al Qaeda had one goal after 9-11 and all the terrorism that led up to it from ‘93 to ‘01–to get US boots out of Saudi Arabia and suck us into a war of attrition like the Russians in Afghanistan.

Thanks to Worst. President. Ever. they succeeded beyond their wildest dreams.
