WSU cheer violation no innocent mistake

It’s too bad that the Wichita State University cheer squad had to forfeit its national title. But it turns out that the eligibility violation was no innocent mistake, as several had claimed. WSU says it told the squad not to compete in the finals of the competition when it learned that the team included a member who wasn’t enrolled in the university. But the squad competed anyway; then its advisers and some squad members told WSU that the ineligible person didn’t participate. But video of the winning performance obtained by WSU showed that the person did compete. Appropriately, the coach has already announced his resignation (though he says it wasn’t because of the violation and lying) and the adviser is no longer with WSU.

    Todd,

    That’s the community spirit appreciated.

Other colleges who like to slam WSU will add more ridicule.

The basketball team has to take cheerleaders to games on the road. They will hear it.

So people do care, your slamming them. Much optimism is on the basketball team today. At WSU and in the community.

    Mrage,

Ya know what? Blame the coach. Blame the advisers. Blame the members of the squad. They all knew better and did it anyway. Don’t blame the public when they say ‘what a bucnh of idiots those WSU people are’. We didn’t tarnish your image.

If you are not cheating then you are not trying. We live in a society of liars and cheaters. Whatelse can you expect? More to show the moral disentigration of our society. Win at all costs. And if you can’t win….then cheat. Way to make us proud Shockers!

I never trusted that one with the wheat thingie on it’s head. WTF kind of name is “WU?”

  8. Mrage
    Posted April 20, 2007 at 5:19 pm | Permalink

WU…Wichita University back in the day.

That “thing” is a kernel of wheat.

Having a him and her WU is kind of weird.

Shockers is a shortened name for wheatshockers who worked in the wheat fields to play for college.

I think the University overdid need to be recognized as a “State” University in their name.

    Drop the State

WSU should mean Wichita Shockers University.

Nothing much changes. Not the website. http://www.wichita.edu

Not the lettering in some advertising.

3 more letters on uniforms. State becomes Shockers

The Promotion today is WE ARE WICHITA STATE.

The Promotion could be WE ARE SHOCKERS.

What’s the difference? I don’t think it harms anything.

Make’s WSU seem more like its Wichita’s University in title.

That’s the proper description. Everybody involved with WSU is a Shocker.

WU is just a character, logo. It’s not the definition.

The question nationwide continually asked..What is a Shocker?

They look at WU and don’t know. Confusion of the trademark.

The answer is.. Shockers are people. Movers, shakers and doer’s.

    They always were wheatshockers.

A kernel of wheat character can’t define a real person.

funny, I found something different when I looked on Google to see what ‘the shocker’ was.

    brian,

Yeah, I know what your describing. Contort some fingers, that was started by a radio DJ in Kansas City.

    Ben,

The question will be asked. Vote can decide what’s best for WSU in the future.

WSU is all about marketing itself. Improve the logo, clear up its definition.

A more definitive trademark. Enhance’s Wichita name in the title.Regents can’t deny it, if enough at WSU want to change the name.

I wonder if Wichita State University is happy or not happy that a very sloppy writer like Mrage is promoting them, much less advising them.

Tell me, Mrage, didn’t WSU teach you anything in your composition classes? Not even your remedial class, which I think you must have had to take, given your third-grade writing level.

Wait. I take it back. Mrage is not merely sloppy. I believe he doesn’t know elementary grammer and usage. Giving an infinite amount of time and even a spell checker won’t fix what he doesn’t know.

A good marketing campaign for WSU would be to teach their students and graduates to form correct sentences and to distinguish between words like “there” and “their.” It’s only civilized.

I bet you meant to write “elementary grammar” and just accidentally spelled it “grammer”. Yeah, just an unfortunate oversight.

First:A shock of wheat is NOT a kernal of wheat.Back in the days before modern farm machinery, “wheat shocks” were associated with the way wheat was harvested. In Websters:Shock: Untidy mass (of hair)(among other definitions, of course.)

NextAny of you remember the “Scot Johnson” AKA Pat Laiko incident at East High 30 years ago?

Former Sedgwick County Register of Deed’s son, along with some other students, falsified an (I think) Ohio or Iowa State University Gymnast, Olympic Team semifinalist’s records. They “enrolled” him at East High.East won a boat load of trophies.Later, of course, they had to give them all back.I also think that the Highway Patrol got involved and pulled over a swim team buss and took this guy off the buss.Had he made it to even one swim meet, I think the swim team would have been disqualified as well.—–My involvement in the East High event?I was Science Club President. (Nash your teeth Ben, lol.) Anyway, our club had visited a Titan Missle silo.”Scott Johson” passed a full background check and went down in the “hole” with a fully armed NUKE.NOBODY in the government or the Air Force knew his real name at the time!(His girlfriend didnt even know.)I enlisted in the Marines before I graduated East High.I called the base commander after this story broke.”Son, have you told anyone esle about this?” he said.”NO Sir” I said.”Lets keep it that way, son”Anyway, before you go off on that one, this was under Jimmy Carter!

The coach at WSU has said for years that as soon as he won a National Competition he would quit…well they won! And he QUIT! It has NOTHING to do with what Wichita is trying to make into a “controversy”. That one person, eligible or ineligible did not WIN nationals. They won as a team. End of story!
