What is the difference between policy and politics? Unfortunately, the determination often hinges on whether the federal employee agrees with the policy. If they do not then it has the potential of becoming “political.” Every administration for the past hundred years has faced the same problem.

I think it may also be the Hatch act that prohibits job retaliation for political reasons.

Of course they did political acts; they’re politicians, that’s what they do! Expecting they’ll turn it off for a little thing like the law is the same as asking a skunk not to wear his stripe at certain functions where people might find it offensive!
