Roberts is arming himself for a fight

Should the leftward pendulum swing in Kansas produce a competitive Democratic challenger to Republican Sen. Pat Roberts next year, it looks like he’ll be ready — with more than $1.2 million in campaign money, $628,300 of it raised during the first quarter of this year. Roberts isn’t considered vulnerable in his bid for a third term, despite the harsh criticism he received for seemingly doing the White House’s bidding while he chaired the Senate Intelligence Committee, but he’s reportedly wary of the potential for ads funded by liberal outsiders. “The outside groups could dump in money for attack ads, which has been more and more the modus operandi today in politics, which I think is most unfortunate,” Roberts told Associated Press. Any Democrat who beat Roberts would be Kansas’ first Democratic senator since the 1930s.

I know there are many republican leaning people who are very unhappy with him.

Hopefully we’ll get him out. Since last election he didnt even feel the need to come back to Kansas and fight for his own seat. He just expected (and rightly so) to be a shoo-in.

As he becomes less and less influential in the Senate he just might become vulnerable. However, it would take a confluence of several factors to take him out. A moderate Democrat; continued unpopularity of the GOP overall; a continued split in the GOP; a popular moderate presidential candidate for the Dems.

Unless you can find a Democrat that is either a big rich farmer or rancher and preaches to the farmers that he/she will open the federal dollar spigots more for them, Pat Roberts will easily be re-elected.

    It’s all about the farmers.

I think the people of Kansas are tired of getting represented by a Bush whore.

The fact that he has so much money simply shows that that he has a few fat-cat special-interest donors.

What’s the total NUMBER of donors? That would tell a different story.

As for his lament that “out of state attack groups” are going to be gunning for him . . . oh, boo hoo.

That’s why he strongly condemned the Swift Boat Liars, right?

    Oh, wait.

    He didn’t.
