UN Warns of Catastrophe Looming In SomaliaIn news from Africa, the United Nations is warning a catastrophe is looming in Somalia in the wake of the U.S.-backed Ethiopian invasion. That is the long version of what Reid said, to split hairs in the other direction. The qualifier is the words“As long as we follow the president’s path in Iraq” saying in a long version that the current path has shown it is not working and to follow the same path holds no real promise. In the world of two second sound bites some how that was lost and the reader’s digest version became “the war is lost”.

U.S. Military Stops Focusing on Training Iraqi TroopsPart of the problem it seem is there is a discrepancy between the levels of training that the Iraqis troops have been receiving. Where some receive a few months, others are having not much more then being handed a weapon, taught to walk in a straight line and told go out and defend your country!
On two separate trips to Iraq by a person that Rice asked to go and assess the situation in Iraq. The person actually found that on the first trip the average of training was two weeks involving issuing a uniform, an AK, a shooting course and some simple drilling. On the second trip, retired General Gary E. Luck:“In some cases is it consisted of not much more than handing the recruit a rifle, giving him three days of training and calling him a member of the Iraqi army”.
WTH a joke: A soldier arrived for basic training before being sent to fight in Korea. On the rifle range he was the last in line, but they ran out of rifles. So the D.I. told the soldier to point at the target and shout “BANG..BANG!“. On the hand grenade course there were not enough hand grenades so the D.I. told the soldier to shout “PULL… THROW… BOOM!”. When it came to the bayonet course, without a rifle the soldier was told by the D.I. to run up to the dummy and shout “JAB.. STAB”.
Sometime later, the D.I. went to Korea and found the soldier laying in a mash unit covered in bruises and with a broken arm. The D.I. asked the soldier what happen? “Well Sergeant I remembered all my training, so when the Chinese charge our position I picked the biggest one out and pointed shouting “BANG..BANG!” but the large Chinese soldier kept coming. When the Chinese soldier got close enough I stood up and shouted “PULL…THROW…BOOM!”. But the Chinese soldier just kept running at me. So just before he got to me I fixed my imaginary bayonet on my imaginary rifle and shouted “JAB.. STAB”. But the last thing I remember before he ran over me what hearing this large Chinese soldier shouting “RUMBLE… RUMBLE…TANK!”.

Heck we’re doing virtually the same thing with the current troops we are sending to Iraq … cutting the training time for deployment in half or worse — would be hard to train the Iraqi’s beyond beyond what we train our troops —-

Joe I have long held that if the stated goal is that the United States is to be going into the business of deposing and overthrowing the Mad man dictators of the world as bad as he was. Pinochet wasn’t a far right dictator. He was a military dictator with no party or political affiliation. Military dictators are neither left nor right, they are on their own, like Saddam was. The Shah and the Sauds are monarchies. They rule by elitism and blood lines, a leftist trait.

Above quote found a bit further down the page on GS’s link; I would submit that threatening remarks are something more than simply saying “I like him” or “I don’t like him”.
Overreaction? likely so.
Generally, threatening remarks will at a minimum result in the threat-maker being suspended in most, if not all, public school districts I suspect; and, I further suspect, will get the threat-maker suspended (at least) from most private schools as well. This is true from the private school with which I am familiar; and is most definitely true in USD 259.
Given the police involvement also noted in GS’s linked article, I suspect (but, in light of the privacy concerns/regulations cited therein cannot know) that there was more than “I like him” or “I don’t like him” contained in the student’s remarks to other students in the school.
Last I heard Idi Amin had been given sanctuary by our good friends the Saudi’s, as he was one of their faith.

And Nazi’s were socialist. What the Nazi regime did to Germany is nationalize all industry and created the “Peoples Car” and the “Peoples Road” and instituted many socialist programs and government schools.
Germany and the Soviet Union in the beginning were allies and the Soviet Union helped Germany invade and conquer Poland and also Finland.
China is a one-party government and no longer considered Communist, although that is the prevalent party in that country. But since Mao died and his predecessor enacted Economic Reforms and pushed China towards Capitalism China has been a good trading partner since. China has since deconstructed it’s leftist nationalization of industry and moved towards Capitalism.
Leftism is more economics then anything else. We are talking about full blown government control were the control goes to the few (the tops of Government). Nationalizing of business, welfare state, and high taxation to the producers of our society.

A black social worker once said to me that many in the black community just see the chance to take advantage of someone or something as an opportunity. Bob – I have discussed things with Mary for some time – sometimes agreeing and often fighting. I find her a bit ‘hard-nosed’ sometimes but I see that more as ‘tough love’ than anyhting else. Sometimes perhaps a bit too cold but not, IMO, any sort of bigotry.
By the way, I have heard of whites being pulled over on racial profile. Specifically for being in certain parts of town and the cops thinking they were making a drug deal.
I got ‘checked out’ one night in an African-American bookstore late one night – apparently the cops thought my presence there might be causing trouble. I WAS in a rather heated discussion with some friends but hardly any sort of trouble. The cops (who were black) satisfied themselves that there was nothing wrong and left – as friends.

No one has to be a victim of racism in our country today. You can throw out examples of white against black and black against white all day, but in the end, we’re the ones in charge of our life, no one else. No one ever held me back because I’m a woman. I can tell you about many times I was discriminated against, but it never stopped me from achieving my goals. I would never allow anyone to have that sort of power in my life.
