Yesterday Governor Sebelius announced plans to have AG Morrison challenge the new gaming law in the Kansas Courts. Oddly, and not reported by any in the Kansas press, Sebelius plans to use the same law that allows the legislature to ask Morrison to take legal action (like reinstating the case against Tiller) that the Kansas House considered recently. The press went nuts (“unusual decision”, “little-used Kansas law”, “activists want to circumvent the separation of powers”) when the Kansas House planned to use the law, but doesn’t say anything when the Governor plans to use the very same statute? Where are the same comments from the Kansas press (“unusual decision”, “little-used Kansas law”, “activists want to circumvent the separation of powers”)?

Censoring the Conservative MediaBy Cliff Kincaid | April 10, 2007
Whatever one may think of these various issues and controversies, there are two legitimate sides to the debates and yet many national news organizations, including the “conservative” Fox News Channel, have decided to either ignore them or cover only one side.
The Free Congress Foundation on Friday, April 13, is hosting a panel discussion on liberal attempts to bring back the Fairness Doctrine in order to intimidate, harass and censor the conservative media. I am pleased to participate because the threat is a real one. In a new report posted on the AIM website, we document how leading Democrats and their allies have no compunctions about using the full force of the federal government to manipulate media coverage in their favor. The Fairness Doctrine would put bureaucrats from the Federal Communications Commission in charge of managing editorial content on radio and TV networks, channels and stations.
The organized left-wing campaign against Fox News, in order to keep Democratic presidential candidates out of any debates sponsored or co-sponsored by the channel, is a taste of what is to come. The left-wing campaign against Fox News is one reason why the channel hired former liberal Democratic Congressman Harold Ford, Jr. as a commentator and analyst. In fact, Ford had been a favorite of the channel during his run for the Senate, and he had received campaign contributions from Rupert Murdoch, chairman of the Fox News parent company, and other News Corporation executives. The channel has been feeling the heat.
Of course, the notion that the channel is a conservative Republican mouthpiece is completely absurd and is offered only for the purpose of intimidating its executives and news personalities and moving it further to the left. AIM has put forward a very detailed critique of the channel on conservative grounds, noting its timid coverage of Senator Hillary Clinton and its backing away from asking important questions about Senator Barack Obama’s mysterious past. Many of these concerns can be found in our Fairness Doctrine report.
This brings up the other serious problem that we face–self-censorship. Tragically, the conservative media, which we now depend on for alternative news and information, have been very disappointing in their coverage of a number of key controversies and issues of public importance. In the face of a campaign to return the Fairness Doctrine, the natural reaction of many in the conservative media might be to bend over backwards to an even greater degree, in order to accommodate the left.
Of course, the notion that the channel is a conservative Republican mouthpiece is completely absurd and is offered only for the purpose of intimidating its executives and news personalities and moving it further to the left.
Thanks Republican it is always nice to start the day with a joke.
hmmm — to quote from a Geico commercial, Republican “…. wake up on the wrong side of the rock again?”

I’m not a big fan of George Will but there’s a lot of fun info in here.
snip”dollars per lifetime mile,” a Prius (expected life: 109,000 miles) costs $3.25, compared with $1.95 for a Hummer H3 (expected life: 207,000 miles).
snip”a 16-oz. T-bone is like a Hummer on a plate.”
Ben & Jerry’s ice cream might be even more sinister: A gallon of it requires electricity-guzzling refrigeration and four gallons of milk produced by cows that simultaneously produce eight gallons of manure and flatulence with eight gallons of methane.
Good point, Meadowlark! I’m not from Kansas, so perhaps I have a different perspective, but in all the many places I have lived in my life, I have never seen any other place where the corruption of government officials is so adamently protected, defended and excused by the media. It really is a shame and disservice to the public. The media should be exposing and helping to root out corruption with the TRUTH. But they have become so jaded by their fanatical devotion to their own radical worldview, that they can’t see that they have become part of the corruption! It’s a pathetic situation.
Don’t they know ‘delete’ doesn’t mean erased permanently? How hokie is this? Some W. House e-mails on fired attorneys may be lost Wed Apr 11, 9:42 PM ET
WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Some White House staff wrote e-mail messages about official business on Republican Party accounts, and some may have been wrongly deleted, the administration said on Wednesday in an embarrassing disclosure tied to the probe into the firing of eight U.S. attorneys.
ADVERTISEMENTThe White House said it could not rule out the possibility that some official e-mails relating to the firings had been deleted and are lost.
Democrats in Congress have been seeking copies of e-mails from the Republican National Committee as part of an investigation into whether the firing of the prosecutors last year was politically motivated.
White House spokesman Scott Stanzel told reporters 22 White House officials were allowed to maintain e-mail addresses through the Republican National Committee. They included President George W. Bush’s senior political adviser, Karl Rove, and several of his deputies.
Democrats have been seeking information that might tie Rove to the decision to fire the attorneys.
Some White House aides trying to avoid violating the Hatch Act, which prohibits using government property for certain political activities, may have used the political account to communicate about official White House business, Stanzel said.
Some of those official e-mails may be lost because the RNC had a policy of deleting e-mails about every 30 days from its accounts. That policy was changed in 2004 to exclude White House officials, who are required to retain records and correspondence and everything e-mailed from a White House account is automatically archived, Stanzel said.
“Some official e-mails have potentially been lost and that is a mistake the White House is aggressively working to correct,” he said.
Asked whether some of the lost e-mails could be related to the firings of the U.S. attorneys last year, Stanzel said: “That can’t be ruled out.”
The White House admission came as the Democratic-led Congress moved to obtain additional documents from the administration in its investigation of the firing of eight prosecutors, a case that has prompted bipartisan calls for Attorney General Alberto Gonzales to resign.
Gonzales received a subpoena on Tuesday from the House Judiciary Committee for documents related to the firings.
The White House said Bush had asked the Justice Department to be “fully responsive” to the request.
Gonzales, who with Bush’s public support has rejected calls to resign, is to appear next week before the Senate Judiciary Committee, which plans to authorize subpoenas of its own on
Steve – the subpoena wants the emails turned over, but if some were deleted then the folks who deleted them – may have a hard time getting them back.
They may have to hire someone to come in and pull them off the hard disk.
When I delete stuff – someone may well be able to recover it – but i don’t have the experience to do so.
I think that’s all they’re saying.
Has anyone here researched the racism and bigotry of Al Sharpton? Has anyone looked into the extortionisitc methods of Jesse Jackson and the Rainbow coalition?
Yet these are the turds that lead the public around by their white apologetic noses and destroy a man’s livelihood. Granted what he said was stupid, take a look at what these “civil rights leaders” are pulling.
We’ve scrounged thru Imus’ past and drudged up all his past sins. How about we look into the biggest mouth pieces in this issue.
I notice that Kurt Vonnegut died. I thought that he was a great writer with a unique style.
I read all of his books. They were stimulating and challenged your thinking. I saw him at a lecture at WSU probably 20 years ago. He will be missed.
SolDevVB,
You’re hatred of Sharpton and Jackson has been duly noted. But you’re entirely wrong to suggest that THEY are “destroying [Imus'] livelihood.” Imus and Imus alone is responsible for saying all these horrible things over all these years. The “ho” comment is only the latest in a decades long string of such comments. And you don’t have to “scrounge” to find them. What happened to the conservative obsession with personal responsibility?
You want to make this about people other than Imus. It’s simply not about anyone other than him.
You are correct condor that Imus has tied his own noose for several years. What I am pissed about is the mouth pieces of the controversy.
These are the same tactics Jackson uses to strong arm ‘contributions’ to his Rainbow Coalition.
Imus says stupid things. Jackson and Sharpton continue to DO hateful racist things and they get a free pass.
GSheridan I would hope that they are saying they will have a computer tech search the hard drive for the e-mails. But, I don’t think that they intend to do that unless they are pushed. I can’t believe that the RNC doesn’t have computer specialists on their staff. While it takes some “special skill” it is not like it takes a nuclear physicist to retrieve deleted e-mails.
Please provide some documentation concerning your assertions of Jackson and Sharpton’s “racism” — your conservative friends are providing insufficient laughs so far today.
I have to admit after hearing what Sharpton and Jackson have done, I think they need to be driven from public life as well.
However none of this negates from what Imus and his partner said…still.
Rosemary’s baby…from Operation Rescue, or Army of God?
Because only a lunatic would think neocon Kansas is corrupt unless it’s from the right.
Rosemarys baby? What did I miss?I read that book in my young tender years, scared the crap outta me.
One example, Steven, taken from personal observation.
A few years ago, a young black woman was passed out in a car at a gas station in Riverside, CA around 3AM. Her family called police, advising them she had a gun. They arrived, knocked on the car window, and she sat up, drawing her loaded gun on them. The predictable result was her death.
The cops were white. Al Sharpton showed up, led a march downtown, calling for a boycott of all white owned businesses in the town.
Did any of the owners of businesses have anything to do with the shooting? Absolutely not. Al Sharpton did his best to make a police incident into a racial one. Jesse also showed up, but he did not call for ‘punishment’ of white owned businesses.
(btw, the ‘boycott’ had no effect whatsoever)
A few weeks later, same town, a black suspect shot and killed a white police officer. Did Sharpton show up and demand a boycott of black owned businesses? Of course not.
If that is not pure racism on the part of Sharpton, I don’t know what is.
Steven Davis :
Sharpton:
1987: Sharpton spreads the incendiary Tawana Brawley hoax, insisting heatedly that a 15-year-old black girl was abducted, raped, and smeared with feces by a group of white men. He singles out Steve Pagones, a young prosecutor. Pagones is wholly innocent — the crime never occurred — but Sharpton taunts him: “If we’re lying, sue us, so we can . . . prove you did it.” Pagones does sue, and eventually wins a $345,000 verdict for defamation. To this day, Sharpton refuses to recant his unspeakable slander or to apologize for his role in the odious affair.
1991: A Hasidic Jewish driver in Brooklyn’s Crown Heights section accidentally kills Gavin Cato, a 7-year-old black child, and antisemitic riots erupt. Sharpton races to pour gasoline on the fire. At Gavin’s funeral he rails against the “diamond merchants” — code for Jews — with “the blood of innocent babies” on their hands. He mobilizes hundreds of demonstrators to march through the Jewish neighborhood, chanting, “No justice, no peace.” A rabbinical student, Yankel Rosenbaum, is surrounded by a mob shouting “Kill the Jews!” and stabbed to death.
1995: When the United House of Prayer, a large black landlord in Harlem, raises the rent on Freddy’s Fashion Mart, Freddy’s white Jewish owner is forced to raise the rent on his subtenant, a black-owned music store. A landlord-tenant dispute ensues; Sharpton uses it to incite racial hatred. “We will not stand by,” he warns malignantly, “and allow them to move this brother so that some white interloper can expand his business.” Sharpton’s National Action Network sets up picket lines; customers going into Freddy’s are spat on and cursed as “traitors” and “Uncle Toms.” Some protesters shout, “Burn down the Jew store!” and simulate striking a match. “We’re going to see that this cracker suffers,” says Sharpton’s colleague Morris Powell. On Dec. 8, one of the protesters bursts into Freddy’s, shoots four employees point-blank, then sets the store on fire. Seven employees die in the inferno.

P_Mom,You are absolutely correct. Imus brought it on himself. But while Imus is crucified, why do these other slimebags get a free pass for doing what is 100 times worse than Imus being an idiot?
The only people who have a right to be upset by this whole thing are the members of the other team.
They actually WON the game and now their moment has been stolen by the fact that people are ALLOWING themselves to be offended by words spoken by an idiot.
Words only have the power that YOU give them when YOU hear them. If you allow them to harm you then YOU have given the idiot all the power.
These women from Rutgers are now allowing themselves to be USED by everyone else. Their school, the media and anyone else who wants to jump in the middle of this mess. They weren’t hurt, shocked nor dismayed by this until someone told them they should be.
Now it’s all about, “how can we use this?”
So, Sharpton and Jackson aren’t exactly boy scouts. Doesn’t it feel even a little unseemly to you guys to call these representatives of a group of people who mistreated for hundreds of years, racist? If they are extorting people that is wrong, obviously. But say they are doing so as “racists” – adds a level of “judgement” that is unnecessary.
I thought that “true conservatives” were against “hate crimes” – So, does it depend upon who the hate recipient is?
Interesting…
HAHAHAHAH
Steven you are hysterical !!!! OF COURSE it is racist because what they do PROMOTES RACISM. Are you daft to that?
Not exactly BOY SCOUTS!!!! PEOPLE DIED Steven. Died, dead, gone forever. Not exactly boy scouts is how you reply?
Do you stand for these two? Do you agree with inciting riots over trumped up hate? Do you support Mafioso style extortion?
Holy crap man, get a grip on reality.
I thought that “true conservatives” were against “hate crimes” – So, does it depend upon who the hate recipient is?Interesting…Posted by: Steven Davis | April 12, 2007 at 10:27 AM
Apparently it does. When a white man says something stupid, he loses his livelihood.
When a black man incites a trumped up racially motivated mini riot… oh yeah, nothing happens. When those riots result in the deaths of others… nothing. Unless of course a black person dies. THEN we might have something.
When a black man extorts companies for billions of dollars with threats of trumped up racism… nothing. When that same black man illegally uses those extorted funds to re-locate his illegitimate family.. nothing.
Seriously Steven, can you not see what is right in front of you?
Generals should have the right to tell a president no way jose without fear of reprisal. Too many have retired under this administration…not a good sign.
This says it all:

Solly,
Thanks for pointing out why your party is a failure today and will be MORE of a failure in the future. If I wasn’t crying so hard over the fate of those oppressed white men, I might have a clearer vision of what you are talking about…
To change the subject to something a little more interesting, did anyone else see this:
http://www.kansas.com/static/slides/041207hammond/
These are cartoons from a cartoonist who worked at the Eagle from 1912 to 1965. What is really a hoot is how he lampoons subjects that are still be argued about in Kansas today. Does being a Republican state mean we will be frozen in time forever? Maybe so…
Stevie,Party politics did not come up in this topic. I guess you prove the point of double standards. It’s quite alright for sharpton and jackson to spew hate and trumped up racism.
Another proponent of racism and hatred. Ataboy Stevie, ataboy.
(Ecclesiastes 1:9-14 NIV) “What has been will be again, what has been done will be done again; there is nothing new under the sun.”
“Doesn’t it feel even a little unseemly to you guys to call these representatives of a group of people who mistreated for hundreds of years, racist?”——-
Gimme a break! They ARE racists. No one gets a bye because they come from ANY specific lineage.
No one.
When anyone makes a comment about another race in a belittling, stereotypical, or characterizable manner – they have made a racist statement.
The color of the speaker’s skin has nothing to do with lessening the filth from their mouths.
I don’t know the details but i saw on the news last night that a capitalist is building an arena in Park Cith for arena football. I would guess that this could also be used for hockey. At 5000 seats that would seem to be about the right size; I noticed that the Thunder had about 4800 at one of the recent playoff games. Anyone else notice that?
I agree with most of the comments on Sharpton and Jackson. Its sad that the media runs to them everytime someone says something questionable. THESE TWO DO NOT REPRESENT ME AS A BLACK AMERICAN!These two idiots want CBS to fire Imus but do nothing about the hip hop culture that objectifies black woman everyday. Total hyprocrisy!I listen to Imus frequently and have for many years. His humor is often racially charged and sometimes borders on poor taste. However, this is America and he has the right to speak his mind. If I don’t like what he says then I have the right to change the station. If sponsors of his show do not listen to the show then that is their fault. If he is fired from both tv and radio I am scared of the precident that this sets. Other radio and television shows should be very worried about this.
Mike,Damn, that is what I’ve been saying all along. Hope no one trolled your name for this.
I have heard that often – “They don’t represent me” and or Black America.
All I am asking is that if they are going to crucify someone for racism, then they too should stand the spotlight of scrutiny and justify their own racist greedy actions.
Totally agree Sol….they should be held to account when they falsely accuse someone as they did with Mr. Pagones. The level of extremism on these issues is a huge problem. Things like this get extreme attention to sell advertising….whether print or television. Our media’s tabloid mentality creates this “shock value” enviroment that does not represent what I believe journalism is about. Its not about truth and integrity. Its about 5 second soundbites and sensationalism.
Absolutely Mike. And this degrades the true racism that exists today. It amplifies hatred and points it in the wrong direction.
Interesting tactic there, Steve. Asking for examples of racism from Sharpton, and after several concrete examples are provided, you dismiss them based on the politics of the messenger?
Can’t you admit the simple fact that there are black racists without trying to make it a partisan issue?
I’m not going to do any searches for citations but cases like Tawana Brawley sure smack of racism on Sharpton’s part. And wasn’t “Heimie-town” his label?
The fact that black america has no leadership is clearly defined by Sharpton and Jackson. I as a black man wonder who will step up and really lead my people? Its shameful that we do not demand better from those that claim to “represent” black people. This is why nothing has been done to probe the mistakes of Katrina. Those mainly(and I say mainly) affected were black. And with no leaders to speak of there has not been any congressional inquiries or investigations. Total shame!
Ben, Hymie town was Jackson’s blunder. He got called on it on one of the morning talk shows and side stepped it.
Step up to the plate Mike. It sounds like you have a pretty good head on your shoulders!!!
In your opinion, how does Obama stand?
I couldn’t agree with you more Mike, especially about Katrina. I believe Mayor Nagen (sp?) was one of the major reasons that things turned out the way they did and he himself should have to answer for some of that “racism” that supposedly kept his constituents from being helped.
Obama in my opinion is not a bad choice. I do not agree that pulling out of the Fox News debate was the right choice. You have to face your enemies and deal with them head on(like Clinton did in the Wallace interview). I like his courage and willingness to stand up for what he believes in. I am still uncertain of his position on some issues. As the campaign unfolds we all will learn more about him. I do see him as a more viable candidate than Hillary. Hillary is more paralyzing than the prez we have now. Its time to bring the country together. Not to continue to divide it. I think Obama may be the guy for the job.
I am concerned about Obamas lack of experience. He has never been in a high profile job with massive amounts of responsibility. When we look at the field of candidates this next election we see this is the problem w/most candidates. Romney seems to have the greatest amount of pressure experience. Guilannie of course would be at the top also. Richardson has been the governor of a small state which has lots of problems amoung them unusually high poverty rates and a high number of illegal immigrants.
I am impressed with Obama’s composure under fire. He is so relaxed in his campaigning he put Hillary and John Edwards to shame. He hasn’t made any big misspeaks yet that can be played against him. That speaks well for him.
It’s going to be a long 18 months but I bet it get a lot more interesting.
Kurt Vonnegut, one of my favorite progressive authors, died April 11 at age 82. His capture during the Battle of the Bulge and imprisonment in Dresden during the unnecessary firebombing that killed 130,000 people lead eventually to “Slaughterhouse Five,” one of the best anti-war books ever written. Not that it has made any difference, as he was the first to say, but it still should be required reading for everyone. His savage denunciation of war and human stupidity was couched in humor and in the most gentle language. Many called him the Mark Twain of our times. As a long-time Twain scholar and lover of Vonnegut’s stories, I can see the similarities. I often wonder though if both men in the end realized how futile it was to rail against the cruelty, stupidity and crassness of human beings. He wrote about his battles with depression, and anyone who has read Twain knows his tussles with the blues.Vonnegut did not trust politicians – old combat infantrymen often don’t. They’ve seen first-hand what incompetent political leadership can cause. Here’s his take on the fiasco in Iraq:”By saying that our leaders are power-drunk chimpanzees, am I in danger of wrecking the morale of our soldiers fighting and dying in the Middle East? … Their morale, like so many bodies, is already shot to pieces. They are being treated, as I never was, like toys a rich kid got for Christmas in December.”RIP. None of us live forever, but it always hurts when one of the good ones go.
You know what pisses me off? Notice that all Hillary supporters also support Obama, but the opposite is not true- even if both of them would likely support the same agenda. The right hates Hillary not because of her policy, but because she is a woman and Bill Clinton’s wife. And had they listened to her years ago, we might not have the health care crisis we have today.
I do not care what reich wingers feel about Hillary, after what they did to this country- they have no say anymore. They had their chance and showed just how horrible their policies are.
My guess is I am to the right polictially of Polital Mom. I don;t know if I am Reich Winger or not, I guess she can decide. I do not hate Hillary, I do no like her policies. I could care less that she is a woman, or that she was Bill Clinton’s wife. I opposee her health care program, then and now. Sociallized medicine belongs in the trash bin. Walter Reed is a good example.
It is long PAST time that the Fairness Doctrine be brought back. The AM airwaves have been completely taken over by the far right with their vicious hate and constant bashing of minorities, women, immigrants, unions, Democrats, teachers and anybody else that they hate. One of them is gone now and hopefully Imus will be the first of many to follow him out the door including Hannity, Medved, Savage, Limbaugh and Boortz.
I don’t expect the healthcare to be ran by the military. We’ve discussed for years how the quality of military healthcare sucked, but nobody listened.
So how long till you lose your own healthcare, maybe then, like all the others who have as well, you’ll change your mind.
Don’t forget Howard Stern.
I have already lost a good portion of my health care, with my out of pocket expenses going up ove fourfold. Still, I believe socialized medicine is not the answer. Some places it works so,so, others not good at all. I have spoken to many from overseas. Seems it works well if you either are not sick, or extremely so. In between, pretty much sucks.
Political Mom – I like Hillary a LOT better than I like Obama Winfrey.
If the two were the ONLY choices for Pres – I would vote for Hillary, but thank Gawd that won’t happen.
The reasons I oppose Hillary have nothing to do with Bill, except I can’t figure out why she would stay with the philanderer. (Loretta Lynn music playing in the background…)
She’s the lesser of two evils.
But she’s still evil.
Why do you think we have to take one model of universal healthcare?
We don’t have to emulate what others have done. We can draw from their positives, and improve upon them.
It was Tammy Wynette.
She’s not evil. You won’t vote for either of them anyway.
Case in point- what you would vote for I consider evil.
littlejohn, I, like you, have to pay for my own healthcare – but I ALSO do not want Socialized Medicine.
And these subsidized insurance plans are even worse. Not only will we have to pay for the medical care for folks – we will have to pay for the insurance industry, too.
That’s just wrong.
I understand your point, and theoretically i agree. However, experience tells me that same o same o would prevail. What i see desired is free health care for every person. Someone has to pay, and viewing examples available, seems to not work very well for those who are not acutely ill.
Sorry – okay – Tammy – I can’t keep those country crooners straight, anyway.
But the ’stand by your man’ thing comes through loud and strong…and I find it to be an inexcusable weakness.
But that’s just me.
Socialized medicine is something I don’t agree with, but I do think anyone under the age of eighteen, and those unable to pay for health insurance, for whatever real reason, should receive quality medical care. After all, a healthy person will be better able to work than an unhealthy person. That should be a no-brainer.
Gee, GS, got something against blacks:-)
“She’s the lesser of two evils.
But she’s still evil.”
. . . and the bushbot isn’t? If you’re going to choose the lesser of two evils, choose democrats.
Anyone unde the age of eighteen-No problem
Anyone who can’t afford health insurance, for whatever reason, should receive quality medical care
Only for major illnesses, I think
otherwise, what is the difference as socialized medicine. If you work hard and have a good job, you get the priviledge of paying for your health care. If you don;t yo get it free at the expense of those who did. Not fair at the least.
But, MJ, how do you determine those ‘unable’ to pay?
Maybe some have two-income families, but they have a huge car and house payment and have no money left over. Maybe some make a crapload, but blow it all eating out. And maybe some make half as much, but only pay a small amount in rent – and have more left over?
How will you determine this?
If I am correct – and someone can tell me if I’m not – just about anyone can walk into an ER and get help for an illness or trauma these days.
JM – it has nothing to do with the color of Obama’s skin – I think his socialist ideas are a danger to our nation.
Sheesh.
GS,As usual you’re missing the point: Unable to pay for whatever REAL reason, be it medical conditions that don’t allow them to work, quadriplegics, cancer victims . . . how many do you want? Would a couple hundred REAL reasons do, or do you need to whittle it down to one, two or none?
I’m sure processes can be put in place to weed out the phonies and let the ones who really need it in, emergency rooms not withstanding.
While there are many organizations doing outstanding work for children, there needs to be something in place to guarantee these people get the medical help they need. Like I said: healthy people are better able to support themselves, and that includes health insurance.
I expect you didn’t notice the smiley face at the end of that?
sheesh right back at you. I guess one should never attempt humor with a neo-con.
“I expect you didn’t notice the smiley face at the end of that?”
In my personal opinion, I think the use of emoticons is kind of gay.
“Only for major illnesses, I think”
Using your logic, who decides what a “major illness” is? Do you wait until the ill are dead prior to making a decision?
“O, gee, he had prostate cancer. O, well, he’s dead now, so it doesn’t matter.” . . . the neo-con code of illness.
JM – I’m missing the point?
No – you’re missing the point.
The point is HOW DO WE CHOOSE who gets medical care and who does NOT?
Your “process to weed out phonies” will end up costing us even more.
Why can’t we allow medical professionals UNDER the designation of ‘doctor’ to see patients? Why does every snot-nosed kid need to see the same doctor that someone who is bleeding from the rectum should see?
Let’s triage these people and send the runny noses to an LPN down the hall.
But first, we have to make sure that folks who get free healthcare can NOT file lawsuits against docs just to make a buck.
I know that would put those who prey upon the misery of other, i.e, John Edwards, out of business, but when you get something for FREE – you don’t look that gift horse in the mouth.
“In my personal opinion, I think the use of emoticons is kind of gay.”
Then by all means, don’t use them. I guess there are no republican gays . . . O, wait . . .There are!
JM – Okay, I went back and saw the smiley face. I’m cool with jokes.
And I would vote for Condileeza Rice in a heartbeat.
It’s not a skin color OR a female thing.
It’s an integrity thing with me.
If we’re going to give folks stuff for free – I want ice cream.
You can have my flu shot and I’ll take a double dip of chocolate-cherry chunk.
GS,Your rant is pointless and meanders all over the place. Plus, if you can wade through the usual neo-con claptrap, your take is ridiculous.
As in, your reference to John Edwards? If I may:
“April 12, 2007 — It’s a little after 5:30 a.m. and John Edwards is sitting down to have breakfast. There are no newspapers to be read, no campaign schedules to go through, but there is an agenda.
Edwards is seated beside Elaine Ellis in her small New Rochelle, N.Y. apartment and the two of them are about to leave for work. Ellis earns $14 an hour as a nurse aide. It is not long before the two are in Ellis’ car on their way to a nursing home in Mamaroneck, N.Y.
By 6:30 a.m. the presidential candidate is shaving 83-year-old Irving Zywotow ’s face. It’s a role normally held by Ellis, but on this day, it’s Edwards’ job.
Edwards participated in the “Walk a Day in My Shoes” program, sponsored by the Service Employees International Union. The powerful union has invited presidential candidates to see what life is like for working Americans. Edwards was the first to oblige and Ellis quickly found out that he wasn’t in uncharted territory with this assignment.
“When I was in college in South Carolina I lived with my grandmother and my grandfather was in a rest home and we would go over and take care of him,” said Edwards. He said he often helped with shaving, showering and changing clothes. Now, he’s doing it all again on the campaign trail.
Edwards has come dressed for the occasion in jeans and, ironically, a blue collar shirt.
Many of the seniors had troubling identifying the former senator, but he was eager to help jog their memory.
“Remember the last presidential election in 2004? Kerry and Edwards? I’m Edwards. I’m running for president this time,” he told Zywotow.
For the residents at the Sharon Neuman Nursing Home, Ellis’ face is far more familiar. The divorced mother who’s raised four children on her salary has been employed with the home for 18 years, and doesn’t like to miss a day.
“When they say ‘I missed you yesterday’ that means a lot to me,” said Ellis.
Ellis, a union activist, said she was impressed with Edwards’ enthusiasm.”
Yep, he’s a real piece of s88t, isn’t he.
O, you’re reffering to his running while his wife has cancer?
“Elizabeth Edwards, 57, said she was “incredibly optimistic” and said her expectations about the future were unchanged.
“I expect to do next week all the things I did last week. And the week after that, and next year at the same time,” she said.
And she wanted her husband to continue his run for thepresidency.”
Damn that woman for caring about her husband. Hell damn them both for being a loving couple.
O, by the way: what did your political savior, Newt, do?
No more humor, GS, you’re too dead headed to waste it on, IMHO:-)
“Can’t you admit the simple fact that there are black racists without trying to make it a partisan issue?”
My concern about doing what you suggest, i.e. calling blacks racist, could in some peoples’ minds condone white racism, which has been a much more malignant force on this planet than any racism blacks might have been guilty of. Why is THAT so hard for Republicans to understand, is what I’d like to know?
And fundamentally, I don’t think that Whites are in any position to call anyone racist. Especially any white republicans.
Your insistence on going on about this issue is an example of making this a partisan matter – one that is not at all helpful to your party. So, please keep it up.
I don’t think anyone that identifies themselves as a Liberal Democrat and is white has any authority or premise to call any one a racist just because they identify with the Republican party.
The implication is false just like the stage in which the false accusers stand on.
“the neocon code of illness” I guess I’m a neocon (whatever that is) because I think people should pay their own way? Or that minor illnesses (give me a break, they are pretty easy to identify and treat) should cost the patient someothing, and not charge those that can pay for someone else? Okay. Fine. Socialist. Does that feel better now that we’re reduced to name calling? I didn;t think so. I think that healthcare deserves to be talked about. I don;t think it deserves to be socialized.
JM – sorry, I don’t like Newt. But that just burns you, doesn’t it?
Your lame attempt to pigeonhole me – and all GOP’ers falls short of the mark.
John Edwards, in my opinion, is the worst of ALL the Dems running right now.
Maybe you like him – good for you. I don’t, and I’m not going to quit telling folks why.
Mark my words, within three months he will have dropped out of the race. Even among Dems, he is losing support since his wife have become ill again.
I can’t believe you said, “Damn that woman for caring about her husband. Hell damn them both for being a loving couple.”
WTF? Loving couple? Is that what the kids are going to say five years from now as they put flowers on their mother’s grave? “Gee – wasn’t it fun to spend the last months of her life campaigning 16 hours a day?”
Why would ANYONE want to elect a man to run our country who doesn’t even know how to prioritize his own family life?
Steven – racism comes in all colors.
By not punishing racism EQUALLY across the board, you are going to create animosity that will lead to MORE racism.
No one gets a bye here – no one.
You have NO idea what kind of hatred you are breeding.
GS,
You said your parents sent you to a private boarding school in Arizona and you got to do a lot of horseback riding. You didn’t specify Western or English. Maybe some of both. So let’s say, hypothetically, that you went to Verde Valley or Orme. Tuition and room/board today, per year, $36,400 or $30,360.
It’s nice that you got to enjoy the wide-open west, and rode horsies. But the question is, why did your parents send you away? Why didn’t they want you in their house? I mean, you could have done equestrianship nearby, right? So, you were hurt. Hurts at that age go very deep. What child feels good about her parents sending her away?
You have issues to try to resolve. My mom, older than you, was also sent to boarding school (the “top” girls’ boarding school in the Western U.S.). She still hasn’t resolved her issues.
You hate democrats. But these are people, just like you. Not privileged. Also not shipped off/aboandoned by their parents.
“And fundamentally, I don’t think that Whites are in any position to call anyone racist. Especially any white republicans.”
Steven: My, oh, my, where to start on that one. That has to be some of the most incredible liberal nonsense that I’ve heard from you. Really? Can’t call a black person racist, even if he is? Why? How about someone dark brown? How about someone who is mocha colored? How about someone who is a little tan? Can I call another white person racist? Where does one race start and another end? Betcha can’t tell.
Liberals just love to put people into groups and categories. Of course in doing so, they make MLK’s vision of a color-blind society impossible. It just becomes us against them.
So in their feel good righteousness, liberals try to remedy past discrimination with current discrimination. Which, of course , creates resentment and fuels the very feelings and actions that they are trying to alleviate. And who is there to fan the flames of animosity. People like Al Sharpton.
If any good comes out of this, it will be that we will have had an airing and exposure of the sorry state of race relations in this country. And the utter failure of the liberal agenda to do anything other than to make it worse.
Outlander,
With all due respect, you are completely wrong. I just cannot see how we can conflate white racism with black racism. There is no comparison – if you look at the _facts_, one would have to conclude there is no comparison. When was the last time a white person was lynched due to black racism – maybe never???
I disagree that liberals love to put people into categories. I think that is the agenda of your party.
While I think you are a good man, I think you have some rather bogus political beliefs. I hope you will come to see the error of your ways…
Even if you can’t see that error, I know you mean well. So, tell me what you think. Thanks.
“Steven – racism comes in all colors.”
As I told my friend, outlander, the consequences of racism has different effects for different races.
If you will be honest even for a couple of minutes, GS, you might come to think that the above statement is true.
The Repubs don’t want to run on a program of how well they have done with racial disparity. Anybody remember New Orleans?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Income_disparity
Please keep it up, Repubs. I am begging you clowns to keep it up. You will all be put in the dust bin of fecal matter that does not matter. Thanks!
Outlander,
Instead of lengthy rants about what it is “liberals” do, why don’t you make us all a nice list of what conservative radicals do? I’d like to know what you believe your positive contributions to society currently are.
And remember, this is for posterity, so be honest.
Pigeonhole you? You don’t need my help with that. You do a great job yourself. So far you have proved your another bushbot (war), don’t believe in science (global warming), and condemn politicians who don’t run their lives quite the way you want them to (Edwards). Yep, you don’t need my help.
Steven: My comment would be that your view is backward looking. Racism happened in the past and still happens today. The focus, in my view should be on doing what needs to be done to promote equality in the future. Others may argue that justice is what is paramount and therfore quotas and affirmative action are the solution. I disagree. If you want a color blind society, your solution cannot be based on disparate treatment of anyone.
