According to Topeka-based Hawver’s Capitol Report, the most-discussed names of possible Democratic challengers to Rep. Todd Tiahrt, R-Goddard, are state Sen. Donald Betts and Reps. Jim Ward and Raj Goyle, all of Wichita. Any of them would be more of a re-election challenge than Tiahrt has had in years.

Betts Betts Betts!!!
Tiahrt has a terrrible record in supporting the troops. Last year alone he voted to approve legislation that removed 2 billion dollars from the Military personnel budget, and approved a meager 2.2% pay raise for ur soldiers when 2.7% was requested by the DoD and approved by the Senate. He’s also voted to approve legislation that cut the budget of the Veterans Administration and Hospitals. His duplicity in the Tom DeLay scandal has not been disproved and leaves an even bigger cloud over his tenure.
Sign me up for any campaign to dump Tiahrt — he is not a friend to our soldiers and verterans.
Only a scandel will bring Tiahrt down.
I think the voters can bring Tiahrt down. He certainly doesn’t represent me and I’m more than ready for a REPRESENTATIVE who will.
Linda – I’ve come to the conclusion that the folks who run for office (most of them, anyway) don’t care a fig for actually representing their constituency.
I DID like Bill Graves, but I knew him from the time he was Sec of State, and I worked on his campaigns long before he ran for Gov.
His last term really took its toll. There were those in the GOP that wanted to prime him for bigger politics, but he had enough. I truly believe he went in thinking he could do good, but then the political wheels of friends and enemies started churning.
He’s happier back in the trucking industry.
I’ve heard.
Voters need to understand the value of having a tenured Congressman in DC. Regardless of his party affiliation, Tiahrt stands as our veteran Congressman and is a highly valued commodity for Kansas.
Putting a rookie in DC right now would only guarantee two years of inactivity for Kansas representation.
Might as well send the Wichita Police mannequin to Congress if we want a body that can’t represent us.
Oh that’s pucky Khan. He’s lazy.We get more out of our younger representatives than we do our older ones.
Sometimes experience matters, but not when they become lax to the needs of their constituents and forget who they represent.
Republi-Genghis-Khan: We HAVE a police mannequin in congress, right now!
If you try to contact T-heartless to get some concerns addressed, you are ignored or sent a form letter completely ignoring the remarks you have sent to him. His mind is made up, and it has nothing to do with the wishes of the people he is SUPPOSED to represent!
His record of non-support for the troops, failures at supporting Kansas interests, and assistance in creating the greatest national debt this country has ever had, all disqualify him from further “service” as congressman.
I, too, supported Gov. Graves until the last part of his last term, when he was in the pocket of special interests that forced him to do things he didn’t want to. Then, out with him!
Same with T-heartless: this needs to be his LAST term. Kansas won’t suffer from having a fresh voice, we’ll continue to suffer if we DON’T !!
We need to replace Tiahrt. He is for the system. not the people of Kansas.
As to the challengers; Betts would not be a good replacement for anyone, but Goyle would be fabulous!
Republi-Genghis-Khan: We HAVE a police mannequin in congress, right now!Posted by: hon_jr | March 12, 2007 at 09:09 AM
Well then, maybe we can swap out the mannequin on Kellogg for Tiahrt then.
JM-Eier-Uncle William-Khan writers:
“Voters need to understand the value of having a tenured Congressman in DC.”
So why didn’t we stick with Glickman then, you dumb a$$.
With that logic, the incumbents would automatically get re-elected.
Tiahrt is going down. Even if he backs away from Worst. President. Ever., it’s too little, too late.
Start polishing up the resume, Todd.
Hey, maybe you and Jim Ryun can start a mega-church somewhere.
Goyle is the worst thing we could ever send to Washington to replace Tiahrt! Goyle is a political climber who is only in politics for his own self advancement. He could care less about the people of the 4th district.
In fact, look at his voting record so far in Topeka and you’ll see he’s no different than Tiahrt. He might as well be a Republican given how he votes.
Dumbest. Post. Ever.
I’m afraid that Tiahrt will be the 4th district rep for some time to come.
He’ll either quit to be a senator or run for governor, the current crop of dem wannabes don’t have a chance.
Hank
Well then, maybe we can swap out the mannequin on Kellogg for Tiahrt then.
Posted by: Republikhan | March 12, 2007 at 09:12 AM
THAT would be a good use of our tax dollars! The mannequin would be a MUCH better representative than the non-representative of the people we have now!
And, Toddly would certainly do a better job of frightening the public into a slow-down.. oh, wait, he’s doing that right now!
RHONDA!?!?!?
Were you reading the archives?
A TIAHRT thread? Finally??
I only asked for one every day for more than 40 days before the election!! YOU know? When it MATTERED?
You’re a little late.
We coulda talked about Tiahrt’s close association with pedophile former Congressman Mark Foley. Back then.
Oh well now that you’ve got the little wooden boy back in his seat I guess you feel it is safe for a thread about him?
Betts would be a good replacement. I don’t know a lot about Goyle. Ward is MY representative. He is Republican lite. I didn’t let him put a sign in my yard this last election. Didn’t vote for him either.
But against Tiahrt? I’d vote for a vending machine. It can take money and give out stuff too. And IT might have some standing in Congress if it was a Democrat. Seeing how Congress is gonna remain in Dem control for the forseeable future.
Tiahrt is a Republican! The dictionary definition of a Republican is someone who is adverse to change. The people of Kansas have chosen in recent years to identify with the Republican Party and do not have the slightest idea what the party actually stands for. Instead they fall for Christianity being marketed to them through the Republican Party. Nice job Kansas, complain about Tiahrt, vote against your own interests by voting republican and then wonder why Kansas lacks progress. Many years ago this state voted progressive. Today, the majority votes Status Quo (Tiahrt, Roberts, Brownback, etc).and then complain. Many do not even know how Tiahrt or any of their Congressional Representation votes on bills. As a matter of record Tiahrt was the ONLY HOUSE MEMBER from Kansas to vote yes on Medicare Part D. Ask a Medicare recipient how fouled up that program is and you will find that it was just another scheme to benefit the wealthy. Want to bet Tiahrt knew that when he showed up to vote for the bill? That is what is the matter with Kansas.
Tiahrt still insists that Tom Delay did nothing wrong and believes stronger ethics policies are bad for Congress (because it may throw him and other Republicans in jail).
He loves big government, hates veterans, votes with Bush 99% of the time, and is loved by the neo-cons because he takes orders and doesn’t think for himself. Despite his incompetence the Eagle still endorses him for his “experience”. Someone can be a moron for 12 years and still have a lot of experience in being a moron but that’s no reason to endorse him for public office.
Tiahrt has one year of experience twelve times. He fails to respond to his constituents, shows up once every two years for the election and then slinks back to DC to draw his $163K salary.
Left or right, we would better off with damn near ANYONE else is office.
As has been demonstrated at least five times, any opponent of Mr. Tiahart needs to be electable in the part of the Fourth District which lies outside Sedgwick County. To date, this has not happened (not that he hasn’t run well in Sedgwick County, but IIRC, much closer margins than in the remainder of the district). Looking at the three names in the IP, I don’t see anyone there who will engender much support “out there”, unless Mr. Tiahrt manages to really mess up in his term.
“If you try to contact T-heartless to get some concerns addressed, you are ignored or sent a form letter completely ignoring the remarks you have sent to him”…
Interesting experience. On a totally opposite experience, I met with the Congressman in his office in DC a couple weeks ago. He took the time to listen to me, made notes and has since followed up.
I know this will upset some people here, but my recent experience with Congressman Tiahrt was positive.
Ok..break is over, please feel free to continue with attack mode.
raptor
Tiahrts assistant Chuck Knapp once wrote to me that if I wanted representation I might best be served by moving to another state!
Unlike you raptor, I was born here and have lived here all my life. But I guess that does not qualify me to have a representative voice in Congress.
JR–
Sorry to hear that…I was treated most cordially in his office. I am not denying some people have not had good experiences with Congressman Tiahrt.
My intent was to provide at least one bit of balance.
I wrote a letter to Tiahrt about the DeLay, Cunningham, Ney corruption issue and received a letter in return complaining about the corrupt DEMOCRATS – no mention of Delay, et al.
I hope Goyle runs. That would be great fun. Tiahrt would be a bigger challenge than Bon Bon.
It might be 2008, 2010, or even 2012 but regardless of the year, when Goyle runs this seat belongs to him!
I agree with Gay Mafia. Goyle is a carpetbagger and a climber. Just watch this supposed “progressive’s” voting record in Topeka. Shame on Goyle.
Even if Tiahrt gets himself into a jam and that seems unlikely, only a gifted politician, someone with unusual rhetorical flair and the ability to connect with voters, could upset the 4th District incumbent. Of the three Ms. Holman mentioned, Goyle might be the most talented, though I suspect it’s too early for this gentleman.
It’s all about timing, of course. Goyle would be wise to do good works quietly in 2007 and see where the wind’s blowing in December. Even if he thinks he feels a breeze, perhaps something warm out of the south, he should think long and hard about proceeding if the Democrats are falling in behind the Clintons. A 4th District upset of Tiahrt, already a roll of the dice, will be a mere turn at the roulette wheel if voters go to the box dreaming of Hillary. Bill Richardson, by contrast, might help. Kansans like a smooth, steady hand, Mr. Goyle. The Clintons conjure no such imagery.
JRI just caught you in ANOTHER lie!You have told me, previously, that Goyle was your representative. Now you say your Representative is Goyle?
JRYou are lying, Chuck Knapp never told you to move to another state
Goyle is an ACLU attorney. Many on this Blog blasted Tiahrt, on 1st Amendment grounds, for trying to restrict Fred Phelps. The ACLU has fought for Phelps “rights” to preach hate.Goyle claimed, in his last election, that he would “stop” Phelps.Goyle is a liar.Goyle is an opportunist without a soul.
Goyle does all he can to hide his past. He didn’t want anyone to know that he worked for the ACLU and when it came out in the election, he did all he could to distance himself.
That’s the way he is, if it looks like it will put a kink in his stepping on others to get to higher office, he will run from it.
So much for his claims of supporting the first amendment, he is the author of the current picketing legislation being considered.
Goyle looks to see which way the wind is blowing and then he jumps onboard. I have no doubt that he’d report his own family as terrorists if he thought he could make news for himself as a terror fighter!
PAUL F ROSELL?
You should wake up BEFORE you start posting!
“You have told me, previously, that Goyle was your representative. Now you say your Representative is Goyle”
Bduhh bduhhh…ppffft
Uh…..I’m not sure how to address that.
I have NEVER posted or “TOLD” you that Goyle was my representative. Not before I didn’t tell you either.
You’re shilly Paul.
And I can’t PROVE that Chuck Knapp emailed me that if I wanted representation I’d best move to another state.
I pitched that email long before this forum ever existed.
Maybe I can get you another? All I have to do is ask Tiahrt to represent me.
Likely I would not hear back at all now.
I can assure you I have never written anybody a message telling them to move to another state.
If you want to tell me what your real name is JR, I’d be glad to look for any e-mail I’ve ever sent to you and see how it could have been interpreted that way.
Uh oh, J R is being called out. :)
How conveenient that Chuckie pops up with “do you still have the e-mail?” after JR just posted that he no longer has the e-mail.
Too bad.
I would have framed it for my office wall . . .
Which one of Tiahrt’s people went to Florida and help stage a riot to shut down the recount and thwart the will of the majority?
Was it Knapp or Schlapp?
Nawwwwwww. Looks to me like another troll looking for someone’s real name.
What is up with the wingnuts here desiring to out everyone, when they hide behind multiple nics?
And does anyone wonder what they do with the real names?
Does anyone who reads here doubt that they use it to cause mischief OFF the blog?
so much for the party of integrity.
OOOOH JR, what a scary thought. Toddy might put you on the no-fly list….
hehehehehehehehheheehehehehhehehe!
You know the one thing that Tiahrt and Knapp have that none of us have?
Government provided health care.
Yup, good enough for them, too good for us . . .
Knapp has posted here before . . . theoretically.
That looks like a real e-mail addy too . . .
Chuck Knapp,
Not to say this is J R’s email address, but it is one that he uses on the blog.
JBIRDKS@webtv.net
Of course if J R doesn’t want to back up his assertions with fact, we will understand he just likes to further his liberal conspiracy theories of how everyone is against him even if it means lying.
So J R,
Are you going to prove your assertion that you were told by Chuck Knapp to move out of state by corresponding with Chuck Knapp to get to the bottom of this?
Or was it a lie?
JR – I hope you learned your lesson. NEVER TALK TO A T-FART AIDE WITHOUT TAPE-RECORDING IT!
HardTruth,
J R said it was an email, not a phone call.
The email addy I post has always been “live”.
The email I got from Tiahrts office was some years ago. Emails I have sent since have not been answered.
The email I refer to receiving basically said that I might find better representation in another state. Again, I do not have the email so my story is AS I SAID without proof.
Now “Mr. Knapp”? As memory serves, the email was from “you”. Again, this was some time ago. It may have been from Tiahrt himself. I do not imagine for one minute you will be posting here in support of MY story. This is, by the way, not the first time I have mentioned it.
YOUR time to weigh in was before the last election, when I would have had many questions for you to ask my “Representative”.
Oh and NO you may not have my real name.
AND NEVER CLEAN OUT YOUR MAILBOX!
JR,
I don’t read the blog much — sorry I missed your previous post.
I archive most of my e-mail messages. If I told anyone to leave the state, I sure don’t remember it. If I had done that, I would apologize for a clear lack of judgment and showing disrespect for someone who helps pay my salary.
jr-If Tiahart represented you, that would mean he was not representing me. Tiahart is a Republican, not a Marxist.
J R was “for his perfect memory of the email from Knapp before he was against it.”
Perhaps Kerry’s precious defense is catching and really a memory virus!!!
“Tiahart is a Republican, not a Marxist”
My, there was a whiff of intelligence in the air on the Blog today.
That is, until Fleet showed up and all that disappeared.
ws– The whiff you smelled wasn’t intelligence.
“NEVER TALK TO A T-FART AIDE WITHOUT TAPE-RECORDING IT!”
“hehehehehehehehheheehehehehhehehe”!
“Which one of Tiahrt’s people went to Florida and help stage a riot to shut down the recount and thwart the will of the majority?”
Ah, okay, it was Matt Schlapp, who was Tiahrt-less’s former minion and who helped drive a stake through the heart of American democracy in Florida 2000.
Here’s the link:
http://politicalhumor.about.com/library/blfloridagopmob.htm
Makes one want to Schlapp him around a little, doesn’t it?
Wonder how he’s related to Sue Schlapp, CON SPAWN on the City Council.
Listen to JM-Eier-UncleWilliam-SOB-Khan wenching at JR for not being able to back up a post.
Unbelievable arrogance.
Good thing that one’s head can’t explode from hypocrisy.
The driver of the stake was Ralph Nader. Give it up, whiner.
Oops, forgot Tennessee.
Well, Fleet, if you are around, no one can accuse you of bringing intelligence to the blog.
That much is certain. I six months, I have yet to see you post ANYTHING of value to ANYONE.
I only say THAT because I am trying to be nice.
The Miami Herald won a Pulitzer Prize in 1999 for uncovering how “vote brokers” employed by candidate Xavier Suarez stole a mayoral election by tampering with 4,740 absentee ballots. Many were cast by homeless people who didn’t live in the city and were paid $10 apiece and shuttled to the elections office in vans. All of the absentee ballots were thrown out by a court four months later and Mr. Suarez’s opponent was installed as mayor.
There are 2 contributors to this thread referencing memory.
One is a blogger never busted in a lie or distortion where he could offer proof.
The other is the assistant to a politician.
You believe who you like.
Former ACORN worker said there was “a lot of fraud committed” by group in Florida, as ACORN workers submitted thousands of fraudulent registrations in a dozen states across the country, resulting in a statewide investigation of the group in Florida and multiple indictments and convictions of ACORN/Project Vote workers for voter registration fraud in several states.
ws-Hold me.
William Anthony the head of the Franklin County, Ohio Democratic Party and Chairman of the County Board of Elections.
Some (Kerry in 2004 and Democratic Party Operatives)have alleged that precincts in predominantly African American or Democratic precincts were deliberately targeted for a reduction in voting machines, thus creating the only lines in the county. I can assure you Mr. Chairman and members of the committee, both as a leader in the black community and Chairman of the local Democratic Party and a labor leader and Chairman of the Board of Elections, that these accusations are simply not true. “I am a black man. Why would I sit there and disenfranchise voters in my own community? … I feel like they’re accusing me of suppressing the black vote. I’ve fought my whole life for people’s right to vote.”
I know. You’re glad that the majority lost the election of 2000.
That’s the difference between me and you.
I believe in democracy and you?
You believe in power.
How’s that working out for you in Iraq?
Oh . . . but you’re not IN Iraq, are you?
As a proud American patriot living in the very center of the United States, having some kid get his legs blown off a thousand miles away is a risk YOU’RE perfectly willing to take.
Knapp wins. I’ll send him a plaque.
Voting irregularities have a long pedigree in America, stretching back to the founding of the nation — though most people thought the “bad old days” had ended in 1948 after pistol-packing Texas sheriffs helped stuff Ballot Box 13, stealing a U.S. Senate seat and setting Lyndon Johnson on his road to the White House.
“…having some kid get his legs blown off a thousand miles away is a risk YOU’RE perfectly willing to take.”
What’s that got to do with Gore losing Florida and Tennessee?
Get a grip.
Well, Khan, if we’d have been talking about that county in Ohio, you’re post would have been right on target.
We we’re talking about Tiahrt-less and his role in killing democracy DEAD in the presidental election.
Reading was never “your thing.”
I understand.
Neither was logic.
Or compassion.
Or any other virtue one might name . . .
Paid Democrat operatives charged with slashing tires of 25 Republican get-out-the-vote vans in Milwaukee on the morning of Election Day.The following is a list of the individuals charged with slashing tires on the morning of November 2, 2004, and their connections to the Democrat campaign in 2004:
Michael J. Pratt
* Paid $7,965.53 by the Democratic Party of Wisconsin in 2004* Pratt’s father is former Acting Mayor Marvin Pratt, who chaired the Kerry-Edwards campaign in Milwaukee

Justin J. Howell
* Paid $2,550.29 in 2004 by the Democratic Party of Wisconsin
“ws – Hold me.”
In a perfect world, Fleet, you would be in Iraq right now, supporting the war effort that is so near and dear to your patriot heart. With any luck, you would be spending your days going up and down the road from the airport and the Green Zone.
With any luck…….
The Iraq post was in response to Fleettwood.
That reading thing again, eh.
There are treatments for dyslexia.
I mean, look at what they did for Bush. He can read the teleprompter now more than half the time without error . . . .
Union-coordinated intimidation and violence campaign targeting Republican campaign offices and volunteers resulting in a broken arm for a GOP volunteer in Florida. On October 5, a Bush-Cheney campaign volunteer in Orlando had his arm broken when trying to stop union activists from storming the campaign office. This incident was part of a series of simultaneous demonstrations coordinated by the AFL-CIO against Bush-Cheney campaign offices in 20 cities, intimidating campaign volunteers with violence and vandalism. In Orlando, AFL-CIO members stormed and ransacked the Bush-Cheney field office as part of what one local newscaster called a “coordinated attack against the Bush-Cheney campaign.” Protesters also defaced posters of President Bush and dumped piles of letters on to the floor of the office. Several protesters in Orlando faced possible assault charges as a result of the incident. (92)
ws-I love you.
“ws – I love you.”
… and I can honestly say that I feel exactly the opposite about you, Fleet.
Yes, those Democrats that engaged in slashing tires were wrong to carry out this stupid and illegal act.
It demeans the democratic process, they were guilty, and they got just punishment.
But this is “squirrel and bear stew.” Slashing tires is squirrel. Stealing the presidential election is effing Kodiak bear.
capn-Why don’t you admit that Gore lost Florida because of Nader and lost Tennessee because they knew him. You really should MoveOn to other things.
Link, Khan, link?
Sheesh, how many times to you have to tell people the same damn thing?
“Stealing the presidential election is effing Kodiak bear.”
Who let Ross Perot on this blog?
Fleettwood–
Why don’t you admit that Gore lost Florida because the RePukes shut down the state mandated recount and so a recount was never done?
Reality Inc. and Senior Editor of Pardon My English, a Conservative Topics Blog. Steve Bowers
In other words, opinion from CON SPAWN with no news stories to back it up.
If I wanted to listen to Rush bloviate and lie, I’d just listen to Rush . . .
Does it physically HURT to be a stupid as you are?
It’s a matter of public record.
“But it was the 97,488 votes Nader received in Florida that brought him the wrath of Democrats once Gore lost the state and the election.”
Bush won Florida by a little over 500 votes. Look who the wild eyed Libs blame. Everybody but Nader.
“Does it physically HURT to be a stupid as you are?”
Ah, the whiff of intelligence.
Capn – since Sue Schlapp is up for re-election that would be interesting to know.
F**kwad–
Bush officially “won” Florida by 351 votes.
There were tens of thousands of so-called overvotes for Gore–these are votes the machines rejected because a voter punched the chad for Gore and also wrote in the name “Al Gore” where it SAID “write-in candidate.”
These votes would have been valid under Florida law IF the mandatory recount had gone forward.
Fortunately for Bush, you CON SPAWN made sure that didn’t happen.
Hard Truth, send me an e-mail to the addy linked to my name. Straight up, no games on my part.
