U.S. immigration woes begin at home

President Bush has encountered a lot of anger south of the border about U.S. immigration policy and especially his approval of a new 700-mile border fence. That must have been frustrating for him, because he’s such a champion of comprehensive immigration reform that would not just stem the migration but put some undocumented residents on a path to citizenship. Mexican President Felipe Calderon did say Tuesday that “we want to generate jobs for Mexicans here in Mexico, because that is the only way to truly solve the migratory issue.” Still, if anybody should be on the defensive about U.S. immigration, it should be the leaders of the countries these people are fleeing.

I find it reprehensible that the president of Mexico recently compared the immigration fence to the Berlin Wall. The Berlin Wall was built by a repressive government determined to prevent people from escaping, and shot people who tried.

The immigration fence is meant to PROTECT this country from an illegal invasion. We are being inundated by illegals who demand services/interpretation/housing/ medical care, etc, because Mexico cannot care for its own.

    Raptor,

I think that is what the President of Mexico fears the most. That is, the wall will keep people in Mexico and the Mexican President might actually have to address the problems in Mexico that are Mexican in their origins.

We already have a path to citizenship. Why do we have to invent another one?

Raptor expressed my thoughts, to me it just would not make sense for them to be angry about the U.S. trying to stop the hemorrhage of people from their country. Of course it did not make sense for the business men of the little town in Oklahoma I lived in to try and actively force anyone out that was not a business man! The only reason and it is so plain it almost it is not worth pointing out, the money that is sent from the U.S. to Mexico and the like.

But we have to do something to control the flow, it is a matter of National security. It was brought up with a R. Congressman from Texas this morning on Cspan. He claimed that last year 170 some non Mexican were stopped at the boarder. Now the question remains out of how many?

Calderon was livid that the borders are not OPEN for any and all to come across. How much of this shit are we going to take.

Its perhaps time for the vast knowledge of IED’s now being obtained by our vets to be used on the Southern border. Perhaps with a fence and some well placed IED’s this nonsense will stop or at least slow down.

If Mexico want to create jobs in their own country, then get rid of the corrupt leftist ran bureaucracy that has plauged that country for 100 years.

They are going in the right direction, but half the members of the Congress of the United Mexican States are all a bunch of lieing leftist who don’t even recongize Calderon as the President.

    Like Democrats with Bush.

Like the idiots who ran the Congress for the past 6 years; working hand in glove with Bush.

No control over our borders is just an invitation for trouble of the worst kind.If we can easily have so many uncheck entries, how easy will we have another 9/11?

Dammit Joe How many times does it have to be explained to you? Mexico is NOT leftist. It is also not populist, socialistic, a social democracy, an arguable democracy or working democratic republic! Mexico is a corrupt plutocracy based in a caste system. THAT is a description of a RIGHTIST state. If the people of Mexico stayed in Mexico and fought for their rights Mexico MIGHT veer left. That is why bush won’t close the border. Mexico might veer too FAR left. And we could not have a socialistic state so close to America now could we?

[sarcasm]Yes we couldn’t have Mexican citizens fighting for their rights in Mexico. That’s why they come to the United States to fight and protest (re: April 10, 2006) for their rights. [/sarcasm]

C’mon all-trying to place Mexico in any sort of usual left-right scale is pointless.

It’s a kleptocracy. Ran by a few for the benefit of the few, with a verneer of “democracy.” The ruling elites have no guiding philosophy save soak the country for their own benefit.

And until that changes, and Mexico has any sort of social system that rewards work and effort, Mexicans will continue to come here, where work and effort can be rewarded with success.

RhondaGood points.Mexico is a mess, great resources, great climate, great trading partner to the North.Corrupt, backward governments have caused the poverty in Mexico.

The protection and legal enforcement of contracts is an important government function. Capitalism can’t flourish without contracts. Mexico falls down on this one. Bribes and crooked courts and politicians hold Mexico back.

Do you blame the immigrants comming to the US for a better life for their families and to have a better future? If Mexico was as “GREAT” as the US don’t you think everyone would be content and have no complants. Immigrants may come here to work and send their income down south to their families but there are also many who arent able to file and claim taxes and which 1.6 billion are left to the US. Without that even the US would be in even greater debt. So if immigrants are relly the bad guys for wanting the same dream as many of us “AMERICAN PARENTS” want for our children then by golly how did i make it to being in a great position in my work providing for my family coming from immigrants who now are citizens and not asking for State assistance? It comes to show the US is a huge melting pot with a lot of diversity. People here citizens or not take advantage of the American dream some born here don’t.Lets not judge all immigrants as bad guys due to their government but really think about what they are doing and understand why? You do it yourself today to achieve because you were born here, do you blame them for trying even while in the knowing the risk of deportation? Its not the FAD its the vision they have of their families not living in poverty.

Nea…we have immigration laws for a reason. This county cannot continue to endure limitless illegal immigration.

There are close to three billion people (World Bank/UN figures) living in poverty in the world. Are you suggesting that because countries cannot support their citizenry they should be allowed to freely come to the US and live off the working people here?

After all…you seem to suggest that we have an ‘obligation’ to provide these people an opportunity they cannot find in their own county, correct?

    UNBELIEVEABLE!
